The Official Android thread.
I was refering to windo$e slogan of they are here to save us from our phones not the phone themselves.
Oh. I can't say I'm familiar with that ad. That poses a good question, i guess.. how much are the smart phones being shilled on network TV?

I don't really watch TV much (I DO watch shows on Netflix, though) so I never see many advertisements.

Gorilla Glass isn't scratch proof. I had scratches on my Fascinate and even my Droid Charge has a small scratch on the glass already. The screen protectors are just a pain though, I'd sooner take my chances with the scratches.
This is the first time i didn't put a bse on my device (tf). It's also a first for me having a glossy screen, usually hate it.
I've been using BSE since over 5 years ago, and the first portable device I didn't put it on was my Droid X. Still scratch free. Well, the Motorola logo has light scratches, but that's it.

I'm new to the Android realm, having picked up a Motorola Photon yesterday from Sprint. Seems to be a pretty solid phone, though not having a physical keyboard (from a HTC Touch Pro 2) is going to take some adjustment time.

I'm fairly sure the OP still has a list of solid applications, if you're looking for a good place to start in the marketplace.

Could be useful if you have a lot of music on your tablet/phone tor other bluetooth enabled devices and want to listen to it with speakers sometimes rather than headphones.

I have an iPod speaker dock I use regularly with my iPod Nano, so I like the idea of having speakers to use with portable music players/smartphones etc. But I don't have any bluetooth enabled music devices currently other than my iPad, and I don't use it as a music player.

Sorry for asking, as you may not have noticed and this could make you, but do you notice the screen being less than great? A lot of people have complained about that on the Photon, it uses a pentile screen which usually isn't so great.

Any thoughts on the Samsung Infuse? I am thinking of picking it up soon. I will be switching over from an iPhone 3GS.

Have had an infuse since Father's Day this year and I really like it. It may not be as powerful as some of the other ones out there, but it's perfect for me. Big screen and easy to hold. Only downside is short battery life due to the big screen. Just be sure to have the brightness turned down while indoors.

Check out XDA developers because I rooted the phone the same day I bought it and it's way better than the stock OS they have on there. Runs Netflix and the free Amazon Apps everyday are great.

My HTC Incredible gives me the low on application memory error so much now. I was getting it every other day, but was able to "fix" it by clearing the data in theContacts Storage running app and sometimes the Facebook app too. Now neither of these fixes the problem and so non of my google accounts sync (no gmail/contacts).

I am tired of factory resetting this thing every month :/ i stopped playing games cause i know the scores/saves will be lost when i reset the phone in a couple weeks. I don't know if rooting would let me fix/avoid/deal with this issue any better. Any ideas? (I've searched this issue online and there doesn't seem to be any conclusive solution, just looking for any personal experiences here).

So, my wife wanted a case for her new phone, so I decided to look into one for my Mytouch 4g slide and order one too. I wound up going with an Armor Suit military shield, thinking it would be a nice to have something that wouldn't make the phone bulky, but provide scratch protection.

I just got it in the mail and oh man, I hate it; It sucks so hard. Putting it on was a pain - it's basically a thick sticker an a bottle of alcohol with some other additives. I followed their terrible instructions which came in two parts and actually contradicted themselves and applied the case. After I was done, I picked up the phone, which went from feeling smooth and soft to sharp on corners (since the corners of the films kept coming loose on the curves of the phone) and rough to the touch. On top of that, i did a test scratch using my fingernail with a small amount of pressure and i put a sizable scratch in the case.. it doesn't give me much confidence for an actual scratch with something actually hard.

The included screen protector was incredibly cloudy. It had these waves of white and just made the whole thing look dirty.

I don't know if my experience is unique to me, or if it's just the line.. but Oh man, I will never buy one of these things again. I hope I can get my money back. At least the adhesive didn't gum up the normal coating on the phone, so it feels the same as before I tried to apply it. I think i'm just going to buy a cheap-o screen protector and call it a day.

It sounds to me like you've got too many applications running as services on the phone.
Well I broke down and bought this $90 tablet to mess around with

I might just end up giving it to my niece to play Angry Birds and some other little puzzle/arcade games with if the tablet turns out to be really crappy lol.
What do you think about it? I'm thinking about picking up a tablet. I'm considering buying a Nook Color and rooting it.

I still ware a watch. However most the time if I have my phone I don't even bother to look at it for the time. I just get my phone out of my pocket and look at it. I'm tempted to get the watch but the only thing that will work on it is the time when I can not have my phone with me.

As for the screen protector. I use one from Zagg for my EVO. It sounds like the same thing however my replacement I had no issue putting on. The first one I thought was a pain. To me the screen looks just the same with it as it did without it. My first phone the screen protector was scratched to hell however the screen looked like it did the day I got the phone.

I wear a watch too, but for the date more than the time. I never seen to know the date and to check the calender on my phone would take longer than a quick look at the watch. There is at least one actual bluetooth enabled android powered watch, but it isn't cheap.
can any recommend a PC Monitoring software for Android? I downloaded PC Monitor
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mobilepcmonitor&feature=search_result
and its pretty good, except I haven't gotten it to start up my system or able to properly identify traffic usage on my network.

It kind of concerns me because it is reporting my CPU and hard drives over 100F! idle :(
100F isn't a cause for concern... PC processors idle at like 130F+, and most processors can safely operate at over 60C or higher, which corresponds to 140F.

My OG Droid, when I press the power button to bring up my lockscreen, shows the date and time right there. Does your phone not do that?

I purchased it and I've had it for a week so far. I am really liking this phone! I went from an iPhone 3gs to the Infuse 4G. The screen is incredible. Battery life isn't much of an issue now that I am remembering to close programs with the task manager after I am done with them.

Anyone recommend any must have games\apps? I just started playing tattoo tycoon and it's excellent.

Supposedly some other Samsung phone is coming to Verizon. Honestly, I think Verizon got burned with the Fascinate, I know I did. They ended up replacing them with other phones.

Yah, fascinate was all kinds of disasters... HTC Vigor is going to be the big phone for verizon this holiday, it looks beastly but sadly no kickstand, which i cannot go back to not having after my thunderbolt.
Get a case with a kickstand.
That is not an option for me, i am very picky with my cases, so the kickstand has to be built in.

^I'm the same way, but after experiencing the EVO 4G kickstand breaking on me (no, I didn't force it.. spring stopped keeping it retracted). Meh, on the kickstands. Just something to break and add weight...

Im not sure if you are aware, but the kickstand on the thunderbolt is at least 40-50x better then the evo one. It is solid, strong and extremely sturdy. The evo 4g one was a cheap afterthought, the thunderbolt one is quite awesome.

I have had several archos devices and they all had kickstands it was real great since i could watch movies real easy but do the same on a phone? Meh. Not to mention if i do need a kickstand I have. Multiple ways of standing it up.

Stop being so picky? Dunno.

For streaming video there is Orb, but honestly the app sucks, it's a port of their iOS app. It works in that it streams media, but it's glitchy.

So Samsung announced the Galaxy S2s last night. Sept 16 to Sprint, 18th for at&t and ?? For t-mobile. No soup for Verizon!

I've been a Verizon user and eligible to upgrade from my Droid1 since July but I've been holding off for this next crop of phones. I thought I would have had a Bionic by now but they've reallllly dropped the ball on that. They still haven't officially announced a release date although its expected to be Sept 8th. I've also seen my boss walking around with the internation version of the S2 and the screen is absolutely beautiful and the camera is damn good too. Needless to say, I'm waiting an extra week and dumping Verizon for Sprint to get their S2 since it will be $200 on contract vs $300 for the Bionc.

Rumor mill strongly suggests Verizon will get an upgraded version of the S2 called the Prime in Oct but too little too late for me... I'm kicking puppies everytime this Droid locks up/reboots/never receives txts these days so I can't wait and hope the Prime won't get delayed after holding out so long for the Bionic.

Yeah Verizon will have something, even if it isn't officially the Galaxy S2. Which to be honest, with Samsung's track record with updates, I wasn't all that excited anyway.

is anyone having trouble installing Orb? it says a previous version is installed on my machine but I have never installed it before... Uninstaller doesn't see the program at all.

hmm...
