How old is it? You might be able to send it to Microsoft for them to repair it!
Good luck. I hope that you are able to send it in for warranty repair. Other than that, I would say you are out of luck. Craigslist transactions don't have a warranty or return policy.

you will need to get his contact info otherwise microsoft will tell you that you are fucked. I bought a refurb from ebay once and told me i had no warranty, that because i had bought used, that immediately voided the warranty.

I'd definitely contact the seller, because if he knew it had the problem and sold it to you as if there was nothing wrong with it, than that is fraud.

How much did you pay for it? Knowing this thread, probably $50, and now you're gonna bitch that someone sold you a bad 360?

To me, all CL transactions are "as-is" but the seller did say that it was working fine, so maybe for him it WAS working fine but it was overdue to RROD.

That is the chance you take buying something with a KNOWN issue used off of Craigslist.

Well.. it did work right after you take it home? It only broke a week and a half later... The seller must be crazy if he takes it back, not saying that you're lying or anything but who knows what happened after a week and half from the seller perspective.
Doesn't matter if the PIN was scratched. Here is how they scam you with gift cards:

They sell you the gift card, PIN unscratched and have you call the number on the back to confirm the balance. After they sell the card to you, they go to GS (receipt in hand) and say that they lost the card. GS will then void the old card and transfer the balance to a new card. You are then left with a worthless card and the scammer gets to walk with your money.

I seriously hope you spent the money or transferred it by now.
Wow.. I never know that you can get a replacement by showing a receipt.

I've been buying a lot of gift cards from CL, but I always meet them at the store, and use it right away to buy something then return the item, so I can get a new GC issued to me. Or you can buy another GC if the store let you. And I don't pay them until I pick something from the store.

I literally played it for like 15 min when i first brought it home, it didn't come w/ an HDD so i couldn't really do anything with it. It's just been sitting in my drawer since yesterday when i decided to play it and have it get RRoD'd.

I bought it for $100 and it came with the 360 console, 2x controllers, power brick, component cables, and Halo 3(really scratched), Madden 08, and GHII.

The guy i bought it from also said it works fine, i just e-mailed him, he better respond back. I have his name and know what town he lives in.

for that price it seems like it was being sold with that problem, because you could make back most of that money just selling the controllers and games.
for that price it seems like it was being sold with that problem, because you could make back most of that money just selling the controllers and games.
I highly doubt it.

And Beef, you really can't do anything, sorry. It's not like you get a warranty for buying something off craigslist; if you called him a day or two after, it might be reasonable, but just because you didn't take the time to thoroughly test it isn't the seller's fault.

Send it in, crack it open and replace the X-Clamp, or chalk it up as a loss.

Unless the 360 this guy bought was a Jasper, you can't really complain. Buying a used 360 is ALWAYS a risk. If you're gonna be a cheapass and buy on CL, then be ready to eal with the consequences.

You cannot prove he sold you a malfunctioning system, due to the high rate of failure. So you lose.

Sucks. But learn your lesson. Just buy a 360 new. That's the only way you have security. You can get an arcade on Dell for $170 any day, plus an HD only costs like $25 now...

Tough man...

Stupid question but why don't you just check if it's under warranty?

If it's not, see if you can find someone on CL who does repairs. My out-of-warranty 360 got RROD, and I met a guy (goes to my college as it turns out) who fixed it. Added an extra internal fan and heat sink to prevent the RROD/E74 from happening again. Best $80 I've spent in a while.

You tested it for 15 measly minutes and then stowed it in a drawer for a week and a half and the seller is to blame? Gimme a fuckin' break. You paid $100 for the console, with 2 controllers and 3 games and expect the seller to give you your money back for your procrastination in fully testing it?

If I were the seller and you contacted me after nearly two weeks after the deal saying you just tested it more completely and it RROD'd on you, I'd tell you to go fuck yourself since as people say in the CL stupidity thread all the time 'craigslist is like a flea market'. So, would you expect someone from a flea market to guarantee something they sold you perpetually?

Or moreover, if you sold something at a flea market and someone came back nearly 3 weeks later wanting their money back, would you refund it happily? I didn't think so.

Either check to see if the console is still in warranty and try to get it fixed from MS, sell it as-is as a RROD 360 on CL or Ebay or otherwise get this issue taken care of without bothering the original seller, but I have a feeling you're SOL otherwise, even though you 'have his name and know what town he lives in'.

I got screwed over once for not testing something back in january (computer) although it was only 100 bucks so it wasnt that bad. I re-sold it again (recouped half $ back). I don't care about it anymore. Just gotta use common sense. Live and learn.
I highly doubt it.
If he sold everything but the console:
2x controller: $30
Halo 3: $15
Power Brick/Component Cables: $10-15

the other two games aren't worth anything, so get a couple bucks from gamestop. And there he has made around $60 back. He could get $30-40 for the console on ebay/craigslist, so I think he could make his money back.

Hmmm yeah true, I'm just kind of pissed of that it got RRoD'd. For some reason, it almost seemed like it was bound to happen. And I admit, it is my fault for not thoroughly checking it. If the guy doesn't respond back, I'll probably try fixing it myself, if that doesn't work then I'll probably end up selling the console as RRoD.

Shitty thing is I ordered a 20gb HDD like a week ago and now I'm stuck with a paperweight unless I can fix it. I don't think the warranty is still intact either...

Wow, bastards!

Is this a good deal? A red/black DS Lite in the box used twice with Hannah Montana game (obviously which I will not play) for $75. I'm getting kind of desperate for a DS Lite. I just saw a listing on ebay for the box / manuals for this system at almost $40, and the game is worth about $5. So it's like I am getting the system alone for $30 I guess?

http://pullman.craigslist.org/sys/1418661561.html

I'm selling my 15" Macbook Pro. This is a Santa Rosa model with:
2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo processor,
4 Gb of RAM,
250Gb harddrive,
super drive,
8600GT video card,
matte screen.,
iSight video camera,
backlit keyboard,
Infrared Receiver for use with Front Row.
802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR
It comes with the original box (albeit, not in showroom form), DVI to VGA adapters, VGA cable, 85w magsafe power cord.
Also, coming with it is an Acer 20" widescreen monitor (model P201w) if you're interested. Also, it comes with an optical 2 button mouse. This makes for a nice "docking" type of workstation. Not interest in splitting this stuff up, it goes as a package.
Software:
OSX 10.5 (Retail Packaging)
iLife 2009
iWork 2009
VMware fusion
original disks and manual(s) that shipped with the machine. I also have other software that I may be willing to part with if it sweetens the deal...
I can either wipe the drive and hand you the machine... or I can custom install the programs and OS for you. You'd just need to provide me with what you'd like your account name to be.
Most important:
Machine is covered by a fully transferable Applecare policy until September of 2010.

Pics show its in very good shape, and it comes with a sleeve and another case

I wasn't taking into account the cables because I thought this was under the assumption he would be keeping the console; regardless, I think he still might have a tough time getting all that. $30 for the controllers maybe, but people on CL are sticklers, and I doubt you would get $30 after ebay fees.

If the Halo 3 is really fucked up like he said it was, I dunno if he could score $15, especially with ODST just being released.
Is this a good deal? A red/black DS Lite in the box used twice with Hannah Montana game (obviously which I will not play) for $75.
If you really want a DS, it's ok, but I highly doubt you'll be able to get $40 for just the box and manuals. I wouldn't buy it if it was anything less than mint. I think that was a fluke ebay auction or something, and I doubt you'd be able to recreate similar results (unless there is some crazy DS packaging demand I don't know about).

I'd say wait, as something better almost always comes along; I understand the itch for a DS Lite though :bouncy:
Might bite on this what do you guys think
I don't know much about Mac stuff besides the fact that they are really fucking overpriced to begin with. If you're into those, it may be a decent deal (you would probably know more so than I would). Why not just buy a normal PC or laptop and emulate OS X on it?

Right, so just the box and manuals are worth $40. So I could take this $75 bundle and sell everything but the actual console itself and its charger / stylus and make back $45 of what I spent.

To lulwut?, I agree about the fluke thing because when I went to search "DS Lite box / manuals" on eBay completed listings the most one sold for was $15. I also was planning for either a plain white or plain black one. I don't know why but those just grab me more. I really wanted to find one last weekend on the garage sale hunt but no luck, and now I am going on a 4-hour trip this weekend with nothing to do. I hope when I get the DS I end up liking it, because I had one of these phases about a PSP and when I finally got one it ended up not being "my thing" and I sold it off.
To lulwut?,
Yeah, I would not count on making more than $10 back from the box and manuals. Either someone wanted them really badly, or they misread the auction and/or are retarded & thought a DS was included.

I can also understand questioning the purchase; I sold that DS lot I got a couple weeks ago ($40 profit, lolwut) because I didn't really need/want it anymore. Plus the original was way more bulky and inconvienient than I remembered it being.

Again, I think you should look for something cheaper; I definitely think you could find one for less, and in doing so, you won't feel so bad if it fails to entertain you.

Im gonna play around and lowball with this guy. Wanna see how cheap he'll let it go for. Nvm. The guy came back and wants 100 for it. I don't got that to spend but anyways it's a nice lot.

Contacted the DS Lite seller again offering $70 instead (I am getting REALLY desperate) and she replies saying it's sold but the Hannah Montana game is still available and that I could buy it for $15. Damn it. I would have totally bought just the system for $60!!! Oh well.

$10

Replied to an ad with a bunch of garbage GC games and "Resident Evil". No prices were listed so I just threw out an offer of $10. Ended up meeting the woman about 5-6 hours later that night; as you can see it turned out to be Resident Evil 0. Wasn't what I was hoping for, but I don't have any of the older RE titles anymore so I still bought it. It's in pretty darn good condition; I'd rate it at Very Good/Excellent.

Still on the hunt for REmake, RE2, and RE3.

Six bucks in gas? What're you driving that it costs you almost 2 gallons worth of gas to get there? Or rather how far are you driving to get there?

As for me, if it were a close drive(20 miles or LESS), then I'd say deal and make the deal.

I guess everybody in this thread expects games to be $5 each still, huh?

Bioshock is well worth the $25 by itself as it's a fun game, but Dead Space has been on clearance already at Target so it's not worth that much.

Can't make out all the games but I'd offer him $50 or $60 for the lot and see what he says. I'm sure there will be some good value in the games, though I can't make out all of the games he has. Get a list and check out vgpc.com, I think the turbografx is listed under "other systems". If you get something like Super Air Zonk, Bonk 3 etc. even if you paid $100 you would get your money back right there.

Or better yet, buy it from the guy and ship it to me, assuming you get the bundle for like $60. I'd throw you $100 shipped for that set without even knowing which games are included.

Black DS Lite with 3 games - Pokemon Pearl, Yugioh Championship 2008 and "Yugioh Championship 2009" all for $45. Only problem is, it's an hour and a half away from where i am going to visit family this weekend. There's another that is pink (ew) with 4 games only 30 bucks but it is 2 hours away. Why isn't there ever a good deal NEAR ME!

EDIT: Just saw the exact same ad for the $30 one except in a different state... and this ad says "got it free from a website so can sell it for nothing" or something like that so I am pretty sure if I email them they'll just tell me about some scam website that "gives away free DS's."

Another EDIT: $45 one was sold. Here is the reply I got when I offered $50.

"i would but i already made plans to sell it to an old lady for her grandson, thanks tho"

Good luck does not like me.

People always try to sell their macbooks for the same price they paid years ago. Buy refurbished or new. Way better deal and specs.

~15 for each game. not bad. thanks.

Is this a good deal? (I realize I am officially obsessed with finding a DS :] )

Black DS Lite with 10 games, at least 7 are complete, I can't see the other 3 in the pic.
Pokemon Pearl
Pokemon Platinum
Pokemon Diamond
Pokemon Leaf Green (GBA)
Mario Kart DS
New Super Mario Bros.
Final Fantasy Ring of Fates
Final Fantasy Echos of Time
Big Bang Mini
Rhythm Heaven

Looked it up and if I sold ALL of the games on ebay(which I would not), it would probably leave me with paying about $25 for the DS itself or less, and I accounted for ebay fees and shipping too. I asked the seller how much it would be for just the system, because while all (most) of these games seem good I would rather not spend $170, period.

EDIT: Just received reply from seller: (I asked how much for just the system and if it has the original box)

"Sorry. It doesn't have a box :( But, $80."

I'll think I'll try $100 for everything, which I am pretty sure he will not accept. If he says his price is firm I don't know what I will do? But hopefully he'll just counter with $125 or something.

2nd EDIT: Frickin sweet without me even offering he just told me I can have everything for $120! Now I am feeling pretty confident about offering $100. Hell why not offer $90!
Is this a good deal?
I assume the seller wants $170? You gotta explicitly state the price if you want to know if it's a good deal or not, lol.

I guess it seems decent. I did a quick calculation of what I thought everything was worth and got about $170. If I were you I'd offer $150 (or possibly lower) and see what the seller is.

Don't let your desires tempt you into paying an inflated price though! Be strong and don't go over your ideal price

EDIT: $80 for a loose Lite, lol. I don't mean to discourage you but I doubt you're going to get anywhere with this guy. If he doesn't counter-offer your $100, I'd chalk it up as a loss.

Seems like a good deal, there are a lot of good games there that would sell well on ebay as you said
