The Official Fry's Clearance Thread

Update 11/01/09: I have been filtering out a lot of games that do not exist on the website anymore and removed many of the games that have jumped up to a normal price again. Many of the clearance games are starting to make their way out of Fry's system and some are making them back in but at a more standard price, for example $19.80 now. So if you don't see a clearance game on this list but you have seen it before, and if you go to the store and see it marked up at a much higher price now, it would be appreciated if you can post your finds and let me know. I am just trying to get an idea how the pattern works because as of right now, it is very inconsistent, and every little bit of help is great. Thanks everybody

Update 10/23/09: Lot's of the clearance games are beginning to get phased off the website in order to make room for the upcoming games coming in for the holiday season. I will leave them on the list for the time being, and if they still aren't there next week, I'll start taking off games that aren't listed anymore to keep the list cleaner.

After getting the okay from Guinaevere, I present to everyone the official Fry's clearance thread.

I just wanted to thank sinksand as well as others who put forth the work the previous Fry's clearance thread. Thanks everybody.

This list is just a preliminary list. Most of the games that I picked out from the list, the majority of them are listed on the website. There are also many games that are not listed on the website that I have seen in stores that are also on this list, so if you find a game on your receipt you got from Fry's that was on clearance and it's not on this list, it would be appreciated if you can post it here (and the locations for the benefits of fellow CAGs),and I will do my best to update the list.

You may also notice that this list does not include most of the previous gen console games yet nor does this list include pc games or accessories yet, so I will try and get them up as soon as possible.

Its starting to drop, so people who are interested should start keeping an eye out. I am probably going to pick mine up sometime this weekend and then see where it goes from there within 30 days. But definitely keep an eye out.

I don't expect any clearance game below $20 to make it through tomorrow with the way they snake their lines all through the store. People will pick that stuff up just 'cause they went through all the trouble to spend 5 hours buying a router for half price or some such nonsense and will want to get more while they wait. I expect there to be nothing left by the weekend...

Seriously, the one time I went to Fry's on BF and saw the checkout line winding through every aisle even way back in the media section (which is about as far from checkout as you can get) I vowed never to go there on BF again.

I would say you are 100% correct on that assumption. But in general December will be bad as well, since you'll have soccer moms and kids in the store scouring the isles for "cheap" games and stocking stuffers.

Sorry. Its like finals time for me, so been relatively busy. But still did checkups past couple of weeks, and it seems that many games have been taken off clearance and completely off the site recently, so it would appear a lot of games are going back to normal. Bleh, I picked out 5 choice games for $12, and when I got to the checkout it said I couldn't pick them up at the store half a mile from me, as they didn't have any of them. Also one game went from $1 to $18 while it was in my cart.

I know this will be a stupid question, but I'm pretty new to this stuff - all the games sold by Fry's are new and factory sealed, right? So when I buy them off the website for the clearance prices, they'll ship it to the store of my choice for that price and I will get them factory sealed?

EDIT: D'oh, didn't notice there was a FAQ in the second post. Ok, so whether you can get it at that price depends on whether your local store has it...fair enough, they don't ship from store to store like other chains do. But the initial question still stands - all games are factory sealed?

Yes, they are new and factory sealed. If you buy off the website and want to pick them up in-store, the system has to first check if all the games are available at your select store. If none are available at your local store (or at other stores in your area) and also not available online (for shipping to your home), then you are unfortunately out of luck. And all the really cheap clearance titles are generally long gone by now (sold out at higher price points since clearance drops occur in stages)

They're not going to price match a clearance game that's not in stock. And if it was in stock and you happen to be in the area of the one store with that one game hidden somewhere that's causing the drop... You should just go to Fry's and buy it there.

Actually, it does. Fry's at one point in October/November 2009 had over a hundred games on clearance at various price points. That's just one small regional chain. Imagine if every time a single game went on sale somewhere, a new thread went up. We'd have 20-30 threads just on Target clearance every week and dozens more for Best Buy and Walmart. It takes five seconds to click on the Fry's thread to see what's new. There is absolutely no need to start a new thread for each individual game.

This is a general CAG complaint, but with so many of these all-inclusive threads for various topics often times the thread gets bumped up on off-topic conversation (i.e. this) and when you see it pop back up you are expecting news and instead you get people bitching about something. I know moderators do the best they can but sometimes people have to moderate themselves too.

Not true at all. Every local Fry's I have visited in San Diego, Orange and LA County in the past three weeks has a clearance section within each section by console. Sadly, most of the "clearance" tags are mere pennies or sometimes a few dollars below the MSRP and they take forever to drop. As such, there hasn't been much point in posting prices, but Fry's has consistently had clearance items in video games for years. The type of clearance we have all been following on this thread which saw games drop every week or two seems to have stopped for now.

I actually meant to hit Fry's this past weekend and check on the PSP clearance stuff. I don't remember anything great; the console clearance sections are a joke. Any game that costs $40+ is not clearance.
