I hate Psychobilly Freakout. I'm never going to see the last 6 songs in this game.
I was having trouble with this on expert, FINALLY beat it and started to play YYZ. Then the damn game FROZE halfway thru. I never had a game freeze on me before.

So, i had to beat psychobilly again

I would still probably get stuck on Psychobilly if I haven't played the shit out of it at EB. Speaking of which, my EB has the retail GHII on the PS2. They even put a memory card in it, and the manager told me they were gonna have a tournament. Needless to say, I've been at EB way too much lately.
So, i had to beat psychobilly again
It saves after every song, so I'm confused as to how you beat Psychobilly, started another song, and had to play Psychobilly over again.

It doesn't seem save when you go from 4th song to Encore
It doesn't seem save when you go from 4th song to Encore
Ah, there we go. Forgot about that since I already beat it.

I beat the game recently on Hard. Probably will go back soon and try to unlock a couple guitars on Medium, and try out Expert (which I know will kill me).

What is everyone's favorite songs to play so far?

Beast and the Harlot on expert. By far.

I don't know if this has come up yet, but does anyone have any idea how they find the people who (in some cases at least) have close vocal matches for the songs? Do they just post wanted ads saying "If you sound like Dave Grohl, call us?"

Anyway...favorite songs right now to play are Message in a Bottle, the Freezepop song, Thunderhorse, Gemini, and Beast and the Harlot...

I'm pretty sure that they have a rather large database full of VA's that go along with bands/songs that they'd like to have in the game.

realized I didn't post my favorite songs to play....

-Stone Temple Pilots- "Trippin On A Hole..."
-Anthrax- "Madhouse"
-Every Time I Die- "The New Black"
-Heart- "Crazy On You"
-Shadows Fall- "The Light That Blinds"
-Kiss- "Strutter"
-Freezepop- "Less Talk More Rokk"
-Megadeth- "Hanger 18"

Geez. That's a lot of songs.

My favorites to play (all on Expert, of course) from the track list are Madhouse, Carry on my Wayward Son, Sweet Child O' Mine (the last two both have the sort of slower but wildly alternating notes that are fun), and of course Strutter (not just a blast to play, but great to sing along to).

As for the bonus songs, I like playing Elephant Bones, Raw Dog, and Push Push (Lady Lightning). That last one is so rock 'n' roll, it's ridiculous.

I need to get better at Push Push. I watched the credits (freaking long) and wanted to play it so badly afterward. I forgot how hard it was, or rather how bad I am at it.

Not sure if this is true or not, but someone said you can get the Grim Ripper from Guitar Hero 2 in Tony Hawk's Project 8.... kinda cool if you can ;)

Anyone have any tips for me? I never quite managed to fully transition from Medium to Hard in GH1 and now I'm reaching the same barrier in GH2. I'm not quite sure what the best way to position my hand is so that I can hit all 5 fret buttons. Any tips would be great.

I think you just have to get used to moving your hand up and down the neck from Green - Blue to Red - Orange. As you get to know the songs better, you'll start to figure out for particular sections of songs whether your hand should be at green or at orange.

It's really hard to sight read the songs on hard and expert, b/c you'll be reacting to the notes by moving your hand, rather than knowing ahead of time when you'll need to move your hand. At least, this is true for me.

Yeah, like Backlash said, the only way to do this is to learn to shift your hands.

I found, when I was learning to do it, the best way was to always stay shifted down once (that is, index fingero n Red, pinky on Orange), and if green comes up you can shift back up quickly (since your used to having oyur index on Green - pinky on Blue, this will feel more comfortable and thus won't be hard to forget where your hands are when you shift).

Trust me, it's rough at first (I thought the transition from Medium to Hard was the hardest one to do), but keep at it and you'll be shifting like the pros in no time.

Can someone give me some advice for Freebird? It's the last song I need to beat on Hard.

In particular, I can't seem to play Solo J at all. This is the one that has the BYR triples over and over, and then moves to YO alternating, and then moves to RB alternating.

Even on the slowest speed in the practice setting I can't get any HO or PO to work. :( I can do them on other songs (e.g. the beginning of Carry Me Home) without much problem, but the damn things just don't seem to work on Freebird. When do you need to strum and can it be done with HO, b/c PO are much harder for me?

My roommate finally got component cables for his PS2 and WOW, what a difference progressive scan makes on an HDTV. It looks like a whole new game now since there's an entire level of detail that was impossible to see before. Everything looks smoother, the colors are brighter, and pretty much everything just has a much cleaner look to it.

you got that right

I'm not sure how to do it, but I would suggest looking at it on the slowest setting, figuring out where your hands should be (i.e. when to strum when to HO/PO), and then put the speed up one or two settings higher and try it out.

This game is fucking amazing... I'm sad I didn't pick it up earlier. I was up until 5:30 am playing it because I just had to do "one more song". I'm playing it on easy and I really like the difficulty progression, it's alot better than in, say, Beatmania.

Just being able to play "Killing in the Name Of" is so very awesome.

Now that I have a 360, I'm wondering what I'll do when that version comes out. Graphics certainly aren't a reason to buy a second game AND guitar, but additional content and downloadable songs might be.

I'm really hoping it sucks so I don't have to double dip on an $80/$90 game and controller.

Achievements will make it worth it for me, I think... and I have to imagine they will add more / different songs to get people to double dip.

What about online multiplayer?

I just have that feeling they are going to add SOMETHING to make us rebuy it. Shit, I'm this close to just running out and buying Guitar Hero 1 and I only played 3 or 4 hours of GH 2, so I think I'll buy it on the 360 regardless. Is the 360 version just going to be GH 1, or will it be both GH 1 AND GH 2?

That dude who does the cover for Killing in the Name Of.... he's not so good.

Harmonix has been doing Karaoke Revolution for a few years now which also features covers, and I think they contract much of the music work for both games to the company you see in GH1's bonus video about songs. Wave something. It's probably cheaper for them to contract the work out rather than rent or build a professional recording studio.

Wavesound, I believe.

Ok, what's the correct way to play the strum button?

Right now I'm using my thumb to push it down when I need to, or should I be holding it like a guitar pick?

Either way. I do both. I thumb mostly when it's easier, slower stuff. For anything that needs an up/down alternating strum, I hold it like a pick. Some people are fast enough that they can strum quickly just with their thumb.

I hold it like a pick so I can play up and down, but a lot of my friends play like you and do just fine (better than me, actually). I don't think there's a "correct" way--rock however you want to.

I wish I could play right handed, though. The strap is a bitch playing lefty, and I have to hit the whammy bar with my fucking wrist. It was annoying the hell out of me last night (finally).

Awesome, thanks for the tip. Got through my little "career" on easy, just have to go back and 5 star some things.. I think I 5 star'd the last three sets, so it shouldn't take long.

Tried a few songs on medium and damn, it's like the game just keeps getting better the better I get.

I also unlocked the Dethklok song, that one is rad.

This game needs more heavy metal, the last set was AWESOME, and less stuff like the set before it with things like Heart =/
Bah, Heart was awesome in this game. Carry on my Wayward Son was really good too.

Freebird is easy to play now on expert....
Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong song... there are some songs that are way too mellow and I just hate playing through them. I like my songs to kick ass and bust out some intense solo's.

Just listening to some of the bonus tracks, some of them seem really mellow and I don't think I'll find myself playing them often.

If you are just learning to play do yourself a favor and learn how to strum both up and down rather than just down. It makes many of the songs on Hard and Expoert much easier.

Now that I have a 360, I'm wondering what I'll do when that version comes out. Graphics certainly aren't a reason to buy a second game AND guitar, but additional content and downloadable songs might be.

If it's anything like Karaoke Revolution, also a Harmonix franchise, they ported Karaoke Revolution 1 to the Xbox and added several Motown songs and the ability to download about a dozen more songs. Not bad, but maybe not worth double dipping. However, when they released Karaoke Revolution Party, they made it possible to download almost all the songs from the original KR, as well as KR 1-3 from the PS2, making it possible to have over a hundred something songs in a single game. I think it was about $1 a song, or a batch price for all of them. They'll probably use a similar scheme since X360's version is based on Guitar Hero 2, so you'll be able to pay to download GH1 songs.

However, because of the popularity of the game with gamers and actual musicians, Harmonix has been talking about allowing indie bands to pay to have their games as downloadable content, so it's possible we'll see a lot of stuff you can buy, but I don't know if the average player will pay good money for unknown songs from people they've never heard of.

Shit, I'm this close to just running out and buying Guitar Hero 1 and I only played 3 or 4 hours of GH 2, so I think I'll buy it on the 360 regardless. Is the 360 version just going to be GH 1, or will it be both GH 1 AND GH 2?

I think the 360 version is GH2 only, but since they already have the GH1 songs done, they'll probably make it downloadable content (for like $20).

That would be neat. There are a bunch of songs from GH1 id like to play with the easier HOPO's
I only have GH1. How did the HOPOs change? I'm still struggling my way through Hard.
You don't have to hit them perfectly anymore in GH2. In GH1, i never used HOPO's - but in GH2 i use them all the time.

Well, I finally 5 star'ed everything on easy, not so bad at all.

For one, I tried to do a song in hard mode, and it completely destroyed me.

Heres how i played my GH's.

GH1 - First time thru on Medium. Second time Expert.
GH2 - Hard, then Expert(can't beat last two songs , and two of the bonus ones on expert).

Maybe you should try medium before Hard - Hard throws in more buttons than easy did.

Haha, I've done Tier 1 on Medium with 3 and 4 stars, sometimes 5 and some songs like the encore one.

I was just doing the song on hard for the hell of it ;)

How am I supposed to hit all 5 keys on the guitar though? I only have four fingers to use :( Unless I'm supposed to use my thumb?

The max you have to hit at once is 3 - and thats not too common.

I did Thunderhorse on hard mode and there were times I had to go across the whole guitar hitting all 5 buttons =/

Any tips? I mean, what should my finger placement even be like?

oh, there are plenty of those types of progressions, i meant hitting 3 buttons at the same exact time

i either use all 4 fingers and slide pinky for the 5th, or use first two finger from thumb twice in a sliding motion and third finger for the 5th note...if that makes sense

Haha yea, it definitely does... I'm just having problems getting my pinky to work right ;)

I guess it just boils down to practice!
