Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

**SPECIAL NOTE** - All games at a certain price point seem to drop across the board. So if say one game dropped from $8 to $5, all other $8 games also dropped to $5. I believe this is due to percentages, I will discuss this in the theories section later. Here are some examples for this month:
I found a store with 5 of these. It does not ring up (says "enter amount" on their register apparently). They guy sees that it says "Not for resale" on the front and concludes that he can't sell it (why the hell are they sitting in the front of the display case then!?).

Second day I get a different guy (and his friend). He is ringing up all my $2 games and does Driv3r for $2. Then he scans Zelda, it says "enter amount", and he thinks it refers to Driv3r so he enters the fucking sticker price on Driv3r which is $49.99 (why couldn't he have had one of the $8 stickered games before!). Then later when I'm removing the games that weren't on sale I have to include the Zelda, which they inform me with authority costs "$49.99", from the transaction. Bastards... I don't think they realized that was the totally artificial price they themselves put in (there were 2 of them doing my transaction at this point). I might try again one more time tomorrow.
Man that is rough . . . Trying not to just start yelling at them . . .

I did a bit of a roadtrip and scored some games in Waukegan IL (north of Chicago):

Shark's Tale GBA $2.00
Golden Nugget $1.50
MOH Rising Sun GC $5
MOH Frontline GC $5
Baten Kaitos $7 (anyone looking for it?)
Monster Hunter PS2 $7

But, alas nothing great . . . the Zion store was really wiped out.
^ I had Shark Tale GBA scanned today and it was $14.99 so that one is YMMV.
The store I was at had it marked at $2 . . . and they had about 8 copies but I just grabbed one . . .
What does YMMV stand for? I just registered today... :newbie:
Your Mileage May Very (i.e. the deal is inconsistent from store to store)

Grabbed a copy of Megaman Anniversary Collection (PS2 version) for 2 bucks today. I asked about some of the games that had multiple console versions, and the guy said if it was on sale for one it was on sale for all of them. Anyway, because of that I had him scan SSX3 for the Xbox and it rang up for 5 dollars. Not as low as the Gamecube counterpart, but still fairly cheap.

Ok so I went there, and was so happy to see about 5 Mario Party 4/Wave Bird combos.

I get the guy to take one out of the case, and I ask him to scan it at the little electronics register. He does, and it comes up 42.00! fuck that.

After reading over this thread again, are the electronic's registers different from the check out registers? Should I have brought it there?

When you guys say Eye Toy, are you talking about the one in the actual box? Not the game? And which game comes bundled with the Wavebird? I've seen Metroid mentioned, as well as Mario Party.
When you guys say Eye Toy, are you talking about the one in the actual box? Not the game? And which game comes bundled with the Wavebird? I've seen Metroid mentioned, as well as Mario Party.
Eye Toy by itself, not bundled with the game, for $9. Eye Toy Groove the game is only $3. And the Wavebird is bundled with Mario Party 4, apparently, but I couldn't find it.
do u guys actually have an ad or anything? cuz i dont want to goto Kmart and get really dissapointed
Part of the fun of being a CAG is the thrill of the hunt. And you have to expect some labor for your savings.

With a clearance deal like this, there is no certainty of what anyone will find. You could walk away with 10 great games you want to play for $35 or you might not see a single item of interest.

Likewise with pricing. One store could have a game for $3 and another for $30. Sometimes just getting the right clerk is the key.

I got turned down for penny guides a year ago (including Animal Crossing and Zelda Windwaker guides) by two clerks at my Kmart. One night this sweet old lady just let me have them (I contributed $2 to March of Dimes and she gave me a huge smile).
do u guys actually have an ad or anything? cuz i dont want to goto Kmart and get really dissapointed
Just print out the first post and take it with you.

On a side note, I picked up the last Lord of the Rings: TTT for GBA. I didn't grab it before, but I looked it up last night and saw it was a hack and slash that got a decent rating, so I figured what the hell for $7.

I'm trying to remember where I saw this, not sure if its YMMV, but it may be as always.

Socom(original) with headset: $10

I believe I saw this in Hazleton, PA when I was waiting for a clerk to come check me out with my PSone Car Adapter for $4.

Here's a few more additions.

PS2
Vietcong: Purple Haze $5

XBox
007: Agent Under Fire $5
Back Yard Wrestling 2 $3.50
Conflict: Vietnam $5
Full Spectrum Warrior $1.50
MoH: Frontline $5

GC
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within $5
Shark Tale $2
Starsky & Hutch $1

GBA
Beyblade G Revolution $2
Beyblade V-Force $.80
Kim Possible 2 $2
LotR: Return of the King $7

PSP 1800mAh battery was $12.00, and unfortunately I didn't see a Dark Cloud 2 but I'm going back tomorrow to see if there's anything else worth noting.

BTW, has anybody had any PSP games scanned? I haven't seen any clearance PSP games mentioned.

Oh, let me mention this also.
This is exactly what happened.

*Lady comes with cart and price gun ready*
*says hi to me*
*opens case to price unpriced things*
*I ask to take some things out while it was open*
*she lets me*
*i ask her to price check the price on the zelda since it had 49.99 on it*
*she checks it*
then something happens, she looked confused. then she said "$5. It was something we gave out for free now we sell it for $5"

Then she slapped on a $5.00 clearance sticker on it.

Maybe that's what did it. It seemed as if when the clerk was ringing me up, after he scanned zelda it didnt come up immediately. Prolly the "enter amount here" thing you were talking about. And with the new sticker, the guy had no choice but to sell for $5.

Try price check, then explaining it was a promotional disc and WAS free but you are willing to pay. or get manager down there.

Bought Jak & Daxter Precursor Legacy $5, Eye Toy Groove (no camera) $3.

Passed on Dragonball Z Budokai, Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, Spider-Man (G.H.), Dead or Alive 3, and a few others for $5 each. They were all marked correctly with clearance tags and not in the case. Couldn't find a scanner to check some of the other games on the clearance rack that were marked higher but were probably cheaper than marked.

Eye Toy Groove sealed is for trade since I have a copy already...I'm looking for Bubble Bobble GBA ($2 at K-mart) and a few other cheap games.

I can't remember for sure, but I saw a big basket of games for $5-7 most of the games are listed, but one that hasn't be posted was I believe Unreal II: Liandri for Xbox, for $5.
If anyone gets their hands on an extra Sword of Mana, shoot me a PM. I went to two K-Marts today and they both had zilch.
I didn't see this at K-Mart but I checked on Ebay and the K-Mart clearance seems to have really dropped the price on this one. Looks like it's easy to find on Ebay for around $10-15 shipped. Another place to get it cheap used is Blockbuster/GR.

Scored the following PS2 games tonight

Soul Calibur II $5
Silent Hill 2 (non-GH) $9.99
Silent Hill 3 $9.99

Was looking for Dark Cloud 2, Shadow Hearts: Covenant and Tekken 4 to no avail.

Can someone pick me up a Silent Hill 2 (regular and/or GH version), I'll pay cost + extra.

Or I have the following for trade:

X-Men Legends 2 (GC) sealed
Baiten Katos sealed
La Pucelle sealed
Geist sealed
Harvest Moon:AWL sealed

That people have found Zelda CEs at K-Mart amazes me. Of course, my store could have a dozen copies, buried under the extremely well-organized crap in the cases.
I ain't found one in Ohio yet out of 9 stores, but I really haven't been to your neck of the woods. Which one is closest to you?

Dave
Solon, Mentor, and Eastlake are the ones I've been to, usually Solon. I might swing out east after the weekend.

Though I wonder if Solon has converted to Sears Essentials in the last month since it's not on the store locator.

Yeah, I didn't count Solon.

I've been to Akron, Tallmadge, Stow, Chagrin Falls, Warren, Niles, Austintown, Boardman, Streetsboro. You might want to hop down to Chagrin Falls next time you are around Solon, it's one of the better stores though stuff seems to be disappearing fast

Dave

Hey, I picked up Street Fighter Anniversary Collection at my local K-Mart but it was $8 instead of $5. There was a sticker on the front for $8 and that's what they scanned. It's still a good price, but how are you guys getting them to not scan the sticker that's already on the front of the game?

I saw some people posting that games were priced at $29.99 and ringing up less than $5, what gives?

You don't "scan" the price tag on the front of the case. The price tag is a human readable convenience, and it's quite often not updated accurately. The actual selling price is stored in K-Mart's computer system and referenced by the UPC barcode on the back of the case.

Just a heads up... someone asked about Psychonauts PS2, I scanned it last night and it still came up $29.99 (can't wait for it to dip)

Gunstar Super Heros was also $19.99, I thought that was worth mentioning. It's not a clearance by any means, but it's a good sign.

You can Ebay it for $35, don't bitch about paying $3 more! YMWV a bit by store...

Hey I picked up 3 of those PSone car adapters thinking they were worth more than $4 each on ebay. Doesn't look like they are worth messing with though. If anyone wants any or all let me know otherwise they are going back on tomorrow night or friday. All I want is cost w/tax and then shipping covered.

Also the $1.50 F18/Golden Nugget are both $6.90 trade in at Wherehouse and $6.00 at Estarland. :D I've already sent out my max 2 copies each to E and my 1 to Wherehouse. I got a couple more to try at the local FYE store. :)

why because its one of the rarest game you can buy now a days i called gamestop on the trade in value its 11 bucks so im gonna keep this game it might be higher in the future

Just got back from my third trip...and magically they put out two copies of Zoo Keeper that they didn't originally have out. So yep, I grabbed one copy of it, and a friend grabbed the other, as well as two copies of Golden Nugget Casino. I had them scan Fight Night 2004 for the PS2 (GH version) since the guy told me all games were on sale across all platforms...but even though the Xbox version rings up cheapy, the PS2 one was still ringing at 19.99...so looks like the guy was more-or-less a bit misinformed about it.

If anyone has or finds an extra Zelda Collector's Edition I am interesting in trading for or buying it. I assume this is the disc with the four zelda's...
Thanks.

Did you see any of the PS2 HDD?? If you did, I would gladly pay you to pick one up and send it to me..I haven't found any here in Miami FL.
LEt me know.
Thanks.

Well I went to a much better Kmart today, and came out very happy!

Picked up F-zero GX, Wario Ware MPG and Custom Robo.

Thanks for this MightySlacker :D

The good:
I sent in my first trade on 5/16 via priority mail after seeing Rodeojones talking about them and then doing a little research. I received my trade credit/shipping credit on 5/19. Sent another trade in on 5/22 via priority and i'm still waiting on my credit for that one. They give good trade prices on alot of stuff so I cleaned out my trash and then most of those crappy $1.50 or $2 kmart games are worth a quick and easy $6-8 each.

The bad:
When I got my credit on the 19th I ordered: NEW NSMB DS, NEW Yoshi Island GBA, USED Mario Kart: DD GC. They have NSMB and Yoshi backordered but they let you buy them like they are in stock. My NSMB and the used MKDD shipped today but the Yoshi is still on backorder. So that kind of sucks, they shouldn't be selling stuff they don't actually have.

I'm happy with them they give good trade prices and are reasonable on most things, like the new games are retail price after you add in shipping but they don't charge tax. :D
