Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:
I might try that, though I was mainly buying those games for the 3 for $10 extra deal @ EB, which is now over. I guess I could save them for next time.
Most K-Mart clearance games qualify for the extra $5 per game at Gamerush.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, so sorry if ti's a repeat, but the PSP car adapters were marked down to $3.
Not the Starfox Adventures guide! Maybe Nintendo Power ones don't? Anyway, I was sure it didn't (just checked - it does not have a price) and just assumed all guides didn't (after all I usually buy them for a penny and pay no attention to any prices they might have :D). I'm glad THIS ONE didn't then, because she probably would have offered it at whatever price that was instead of researching the last clearance price.

The point, though, was that they CAN research the last clearance price, even on something that hasn't been in the system for a while. So don't let them offer up those $2 clearance games for $19.99 or whatever the tags say when they don't scan - ask them to look up the last clearance price. I know this will be very difficult to pull off with some Kmart employees, but it is worth a shot :D.
A few years ago KMart ran a promo (they had special logo'd covers that said something like "Includes guide") for some GameCube games. I think they were Starfox Adventures, Wario World and Animal Crossing. KMart had all these guides available with no price printed on them because they were part of that bonus package. I was actually able to buy a couple of them a few years ago for a penny each (my KMart had self check out scanners, can you imagine?).

I think i saw those at one Kmart i stopped by. They still had a sign that said guide was free with game.

They used to have those scanners at my local K-Mart as well. They were great because it saved so much time because there were 4 of them compared to the usual 1 or 2 registers they have open now. I can see why they got rid of them though, they seem easy to steal from and K-Mart seems VERY concered about theft in their stores.

I saw on slickdeals that the PSP batteries are $4 or something. Was this something posted long ago, because I think I've read about it here before. Also, what brand is it?

I don't know if they're $4, but they are the Sony 1800mah packs.

Well, if it IS true that they can look up the last clearance price in the system, then this clerk at my one local Kmart was just a typical Kmart employee and didn't really want to be there because they gave me the same bs as usual. The usual line is 'the price thats marked is what it is'.

And, again, if this is true, then whenever I'm headed to Atlantic City again, I know I'm stopping in Whitehall, PA to clean out that Kmart there, which had tons of games that were already out of the system.

I just wish all Kmart employees were like the one I usually run into at the Moosic Kmart, who opens up multiple cases for me and just kind of snickers when I was making my monthly trips to there to check prices again.

Xbox Live kit w/ PGR and Xbox Arcade game $17.49
Just went out and checked my Kmart on these with my barcodes in the price scanner and they are still coming up at $69.99.

Some prices I've seen recently...

ATV Offroad Fury 2 (PS2) - 5.99
Galactic Wrestling (PS2) - 9.99
Project Gotham Racing 1 (Xbox) - 5.99
Project Snowblind (Xbox) - 9.99

Why is the xbox live combo 17.99 for some, but full price for others? I just went to my Kmart and the combo was 69.99 and the PSP battery was 29.99. I acted like I was going to buy them and he rang them up, but they rang up at full price. I guess this isn't a nationwide drop at the moment.
Original Atari flashback was marked clearence for $2.00.
Thanks. I picked one up today.

Also, about the PSP battery, I had purchased 2 of them from one Kmart a couple of weeks ago for $8 each. Well then about a week later I bought 2 more from a different Kmart for $4 each. I just took the $8 back tonight to get the customer service lady to match the other Kmart's price. She said that she doesn't do price matching on clearance items. I told her to just give me a refund then. She asked me if I wanted to keep them, then she'll do a return/rebuy for me ( I know it could be done).

I also checked on the Xbox Live Kits. They came up regular price.

The scanners were great for getting good deals without getting hassled (such as the penny guides). The guides were price stickered with 1 cent so I figured that's what they were. Funny thing was that the scanners were in the roughest KMart in the area but the "nicer" ones didn't have them.

The videogames were still kept behind a locked case. Anyone ever notice that some KMarts double and even triple lock their cases? I went to one that had two of those "slider" locks and then an actual padlock on the side of the case (there's actually a hole for a padlock on the bottom sides of the cases). Talk about making sure no one steals anything. Half the time the employees can't even find a key to one of the locks much less three!

Yeah, I've purchased stuff from one that has like 3 locks. That makes sense because not only can employees not find the right key, there's never anyone around in electronics to help in that store.

if anybody can hook me up (as in cost + tax + shipping + a buck for your trouble) with Zoo Keeper DS for some paypal, please let me know...i have paypal ready

I've seen these questions or comments in this thread a few times, and I used to work electronics at my local Kmart before I graduated college, so I'll answer it.

PLC is a price correction list, it is a typically printed copy of the retail price, the current clearance price, and occasionally the previous price. Previous clearance prices are not always available for a lookup (or their original price for that matter), and if they are, they are not always available to all employees.

The multiple locks on the sliding doors is (or was at one point) a corporate order to security, as Kmart had somehow earned itself quite a reputation as being incredibly easy to steal games partly because of the design of the cabinets, and partly due to known understaffing of the electronics departments.
Anybody need a PSP battery? I have a few extra that I would be willing to trade.
I might be interested. Going to K-Mart Monday to see if mine has any.

Anyone have extra PSP batteries they'd like to spare? I have Paypal. I can pay for battery+shipping+paypal fees+interest. Help a fellow CAGer out that doesn't have a kmart within 50 miles of his city  I'm about to get a PSP from a fellow CAGer and I want to enjoy the most out of it's portability at it's cheapest. thanks again guys.

Not sure if you have a Radioshack by you or not. I picked up this little Pelican portable battery charger at Radioshack for $9.97. It allows you to charge it up at home and will let you charge your PSP's Battery from it twice before it dies. I have been using it for a week an it's great. I don't have to worry about having to charge my PSP every time I'm home. It's small enought that I can store it in the carrying case I purchased for $2.97 there as well.

Sorry to get out of topic by the way but I thought this is another way to beat having to purchase different batteries and guess what, you don't have to worry about charging 2 or more different batteries.
Hope it helps.

Help a fellow CAGer out that doesn't have a kmart within 50 miles of his city  I'm about to get a PSP from a fellow CAGer and I want to enjoy the most out of it's portability at it's cheapest. thanks again guys.
i had mentioned the PSP batteries back in post 940....but i paid the $8 for them...i still have 2 extras that i never got around to selling so if somebody is interested make me an offer...just remember i paid $8 not $4;)

I don't know if this is a YMMV thing, but the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (GC) bundle that comes with the GBA link was $10 at my Kmart. I picked it up right away.

I bought this game too for the same price at a kmart this last week. It's weird that the player's choice doesn't come with the GBA link.

Sonic Advance 3 = 10$
Ridge Racer DS = 10$
Asphalt Urban GT DS = 10$
Metroid Pinball DS = 28$
Tak 2 staff of dreams = 12.00 (gba), the other ones are probably on sale too

Castlevania DS = 34.99
Lunar DS = 29.99

Tak 3 was still 19.99

These are confirmed prices

I went to Kmart today and picked up

Anti-Grav w/ Eye Toy-$15.00
Time Crisis w/ light gun-$15.00
Xbox Live subscription 12 month w/ headset pack-$25

They also had 360 memory cards on sale for $17 bucks...

Some odd markdowns going on their.

hey does ne one noe if the mario party 4/wavebird combos r still ringing up for like $7 or r they outta the system or watever..... they still had one of those combos at my local kmart n i was thinking of picking it up n trading it on here or sumthing but im a newbie on CAG so i wood need a good explanation of how trading works around here....

I doubt that anyone would be interested, but if you can get your hands on a PSOne/LCD combo I'll give you the money, a little extra for your time and shipping. Make a new CAG feel welcome. ;)

I would offer you a trade for my K-Mart swag, but um...yeah, it's a pretty sad situation. I got two copies of Dark Cloud 2 for $7 (one for my brother, one for myself), a copy of FFTA for $3 (for myself) and then this weekend I'm going to go get an e-Reader (they only have one) and some card packs.

Confirmed for $4, though I didn't get it. Mega Man Battle Network (1) and Yu-Gi-Oh Sacred Cards are out of the system so YMMV on those.

Also, there was a Game Gear game behind the cases. It was Sonic 2 and it only had the game case. It was labled with sonic battle for GBA and for $30 and I was life WTF?! I asked the guy how much for that and he wasn't sure himself. He's like, I guess I could sell it for $15 since it's kinda old. I passed, but that was the weirdest thing I've seen in a while.

Similar to last summer when gameboy cameras were popping up at Target stores for $5 (or printers, not sure)

Was it in generic packaging, something about it being a good value, but preused? Kmart way back in the day used to sell used games for Genesis, Super Nintendo, Gear Gear and I think Gameboy cart only, but sealed in packaging. Nontheless, that is still goofy.

No it was just in a official game gear case protector. It's like the ones you used to get with game boy games back in the day. If it was actually new and sealed with the original box and manual, I might have considered it.
