The Official Ninja Gaiden Sigma Thread (demo's up for DL)

Man, it's so weird to think that the game's release is as soon as it is. I've gotta finish up The Darkness before this comes out because once this does get released, this is automatically on the top of my list of priorities.
 
Quick impressions after about three hours of play:

Graphically, not all levels are a spectacular as the first. Some indoor levels feel quite sterile and lack the lushness of the first. The framerate is locked at 60 FPS, but occasionally, the camera can display a bit of seam-tearing when moving rapidly. While the opening cinema is high def goodness, all later videos are compressed and pixelated.

Voice work sounds like a B-Grade anime, consistently accenting all the wrong words in each sentence. Ryu sounds like a (very) poor-man's Tom Cruise.

But those are NGS's only faults. It does many things right- combat is spectacular, even lower-ranking enemies are fierce. The game is very rewarding because of this. Completing is mission let's you exhale and look forward to stronger, quicker, tougher foes. Graphically, this game is one of the highlights of the PS3 system. Wholly recommended.

some things about the Collector's Edition:

--it comes in a normal PS3 case, with a sleeve over it
--the codes for the extra missions are already on gamefaqs and they work for the normal edition
--the bonus DVD is about the only thing you're getting for the extra $10.


lame. on a side note, they wouldn't even let me *look* at it today at EB, even though I was telling them I was considering switching my pre-order.

i hear other stores are letting people buy it though.

Thanks for the info Apossum. I had some extra credit at Gamecrazy just in case the Collector's Edition was worth it. Looks like I'll save that $10

Can't wait to pick up my pre-order tomorrow.

pretty sure it's EB/GS exclusive anyway.

If it was in a tin, I would've bought it without thinking twice. as it is, it sounds like there's nothing different about it. (and watch, it's going to sell out in a week and never go back in print like the subsistence limited edition.)

ahh still wondering if i should get this game or not. I've got some good ol credit at FYE enough for just about two games. Was thinkin of R6 Vegas and NGS, but was wondering if I should just save it for a couple months and wait for Heavenly Sword and whatever else is coming after summer lol

Call me shallow but Rachel's breasteses do call out to me ever so softly lol

Picked up Sigma and yeah, the CE has a sleeve for the bonus shit, which is pretty ghetto. Gonna keep it though just because I do wanna see that shit.

I can't bring myself to spend $60 on this game.

I really want it...but...I just can't.

I wish it was on sale somewhere like The Darkness was last week.
 
I too broke down and bought the CE. It's the lamest CE ever, but I already had the game pretty much paid in store credit.

just passed the part where you break the controls on the blimp. Good stuff so far. I like how they put a 60 enemy challenge in the room with the 2nd scarab :)
 
Got my NGS:CE today as well, not the greatest CE at all but it is my second favorite action game of all time. So I feel it was worth what I spent on it.

Watched the CE DVD and it's actually pretty interesting if you're into Ninja Gaiden a lot or you like Team Ninja. Still waiting till tonight to start the game.

Also, sean, are you sure you're playing the game right. First ninja's killin' you on easy? I dunno what to tell ya.

I never played black, but on the original Ninja Gaiden I couldn't get passed the
Skeleton pterodactyl

So I want to play this game and actually beat it. I am very capable of defeating the first Ninja :lol:
 
I just remembered the trade 2 PS3 games get 1 free thing that Gamestop is doing. I might do that and grab this game.

I hope they're still doing it and they have it today.

i wish they would let you unlock higher difficulties from a demo save or at least have Hard open. though it's kinda fun slaughtering everyone :)

it's there, but its only a full install (I think they were saying there would be a partial option.)

It goes into your game data folder and you have to launch the game from the disc. it's kinda like Oblivion's opening install (a couple gigs of data.) there's no option to launch it w/out the disc.

Not everyone is good at Guitar Hero :p

I suck at that game so much....unless I use a normal PS2 controller, then I'm pretty awesome at it :lol:

Just picked up my copy at Gamecrazy. I'll probably put The Darkness on the back-burner for now. Gotta pop that NG cherry.

Now my copy of KOFXI from PA needs to get here and I'm set for the summer.

wellllll i picked this up with my credit from FYE, but I'll be popping my sigma cherry with the main game later tonight with the lights dimmed and when the mood is right. I just did the install for now.

That install took a buttload of time...I gotta check how much space it took up.
 
Got up to the first Rachel mission. I really suck as her but I like her style a lot. makes those alien guys a huge challenge.

is anyone else's game doing a lot weird little things? Like when I open certain chests, it pauses for just long enough to make me think it might have frozen. sometimes the menus lag too. and at the first save point, it froze for like 30 seconds.

and man, the CGI is nasty. I thought blu-ray was supposed to cure compression woes-- this seems more compressed than the Xbox version :\
