The Official Ninja Gaiden Sigma Thread (demo's up for DL)
Damn, how am I supposed to get much essence?!
using lots of fully charged ultimate techniques, 60 fiend challenges, and using lots of fully charged ultimate techniques during the 60 fiend challenges. also, scour each level for fights, don't just take the most linear path.

What are some useful tips for us that suck? I'm getting slightly better by just absolutely running around like a nut everytime there are enemies around and doin more moves and I also just learned the Izunda drop which is pretty fun.

How do I do Ultimate Techniques without having to charge, and when's the best time to do them? Most of the time when I charge it up I get hit and it stops :\

oh yea...and when am I supposed to properly use the wind run? (Square + X) I still don't really know what it is other than another version of run and jump

---
hmm chapter 6 and 7 seems to be where it's at for gathering essense from the bats lol
I think I'm on chapter 6 now but that's with the Rachel mission in between. I just saved her from the big ol' tentacle monster and she came out all nice and gooey *chuckle*, so Ryu is just about to enter the monastery

Executing Ultimate Techniques w/out charging is possible through a combo.

I forget exactly the button order, since I usually do it by "feeling", you just need a couple essence around to help execute them. One blue or red essence will also do the trick.

I dunno if any of that has changed, since I don't have Sigma for the PS3 yet :p

first, stop running around like a tard when enemies come out  Stay still, block, let them come to you, roll around, wait for a good time to attack. This way you'll learn their moves and know when to use yours. Counters are also really good-- if an enemy hits when you're blocking, there'll be a flash and "clang" sound-- hit square or triangle as soon as that happens to counter.

You can do UT's by holding triangle-- you'll rarely fully charge it this way, but you can charge it to the first level while an enemy is down.

The wind run is great for hopping on enemies. It kinda "heat seeks" their heads and when you are jumping and near an enemy head, you can jump off of it by pressing jump. this stuns them, looks funny, and is a great way to get out of a tight spot.

ah..hmm....so the wind run jumps towards the closest enemy basically, and I'm supposed to jump off of it?

I try to dodge and block and all that but I get swarmed by those spider ninja guys :( and they throw those explosive kunai things all the time lol

hmmm....i seeee about the ultimate techniques...they are very very useful.
So it has to absorb any kind of essence to do the crazy moves? Otherwise it's just a normal powerful attack? I did like a giant whirlwind type thing, and also a slicing combo, I guess it depends on how much essence you absorb?

1 yellow orb, go up one level instantly
2 yellow orbs, max instantly

any other orb, max instantly

Each weapon has their own unique UTs.

yep, that'll get you away from the black ninjas.

check out the description of the Talisman of Rebirth when playing as Rachel. haha

oh, you all didn't finish the game yet  I kid, I kid

Apossum, can you spoiler tag the description? I'm too lazy to play till I get to a Rachel stage right now. Wanna watch Twelve Kingdoms instead.

it's nothing spoiling--- just a "gender agreement" mistake

yeah, I'm very close to finishing-- I'm on
alma's second form.
I took my time I guess-- had many many many soft resets to get the time bonus for certain groups, namely for the 60 fiend challenges...

as much as I love this game, this "ultimate version" is a let down. The loading situation got better in Tairon, but otherwise-- Rachel is just ryu but less agile and with only one weapon and all the other additions are just cut and pasted from other parts of the game. I've also run into a lot of stupid little glitches.

It's just not polished like it should be.

is there a sound issue with Ninja Gaiden Sigma?

I've been playing for the last 45 minutes or more without any sound problems. When I got to the "boss" in Chapter 2, every time his fire got near me my speakers would crackle really badly. Odd description but it really didn't sound normal.

I'm not sure what it is. I don't know if it's my cable but I haven't had any sound issues playing any other games/movies.

EDIT: Seems to happen when there is A LOT of fire around.

I've heard of some people having sound issues.

I do hate the loading as well.
At first it wasn't bad, but it's getting slightly worse.

I've figured out a way to be really good at this game.

This is my tactic: Run around until you encounter an enemy. Then quickly manuever Ryu around with the analog stick and push various buttons on the controller to defeat said enemy (or enemies).

Victory!

i noticed some weird sound stuff-- the music was too quiet for most of the game, and for some reason, every a boss "roars" really loud, there was no roar, if that makes any sense.

the loading is not so bad once you get out of Tairon. but then you have to go back there a few times.

ah yes...my current tactic up to chapter 6! But it's starting to not work anymore :( Starting to learn how to UT every chance I get and gotta learn to do the wind run.

so far the game is exactly as I remember it, but with bumped up good looking stuff and small additions. The real reason why I want to play is just to see the added story stuff... other than that I could live without it since I've played this game to death when I had my original xbox.

I sorta fixed my sound issue. I went back to my TV setting and changed the sound settings to default. I can still sort of hear the crackling though when I charge up Ryu's ultimate attack. Oh well.

I just saved at Chapter 4, since I might be playing more tonight. I have to say this being my first time playing Ninja Gaiden, I really like it. The game is definitely handing me my ass, but it's all in good fun. I really enjoyed fighting the last boss (Chapter 3).

well just beat chapter 7 and started 8...I gotta say especially in chapter 7 the camera was absolutely terrible :(

Does anybody know how many hairstyles Rachel has? I've only got one so far which is her straight hair style. In case people might have missed it, to get it you take the stairs all the way on the left from the monastery entrance (where the shop statue is), right before going in there for the first time as Rachel. You need to wall jump from the bottom level to the top level, then cross a bridge/hallway, drop down the other side and enter the yard. There's one of those fiend killing mission things there, and when you kill them all you get the hairstyle.

Oh also on the way to the monastery one of the paths has a gate with railroad tracks on the other side, a chest, and a green container. Anybody know how to get on that side?

you end up there....in about the coolest fashion possible. you'll see :D

I didn't finish my copy before returning it to blockbuster... I played it before and it was nice... I just would prefer a full on sequel than this really. Great game though.

Are the regular and the CE identical, besides the slipcover and bonus DVD?

In other words, no difference as far as the game case/cover and game disc?

CE's are selling out pretty fast...
yep.

Hmmm....is the Trade in 2 Get one Free still working at EB/GS?

The game is fun, yet it make you feel so weak! I'm sure he'll get stronger as I progress but it is very annoying to battle a room full of enemies for 5 minutes to have a guy grab ya and slice most of your health away.

Haha, it does get annoying, but a true ninja never fails!

I noticed that the CE's are sold out in most stores and are going for $90-120 + shipping on Ebay o_O

I forgot that it costs $70...still, $20 is $20 :p

Same here, I happened to find a GS that has one copy left. I already have them holding it for me :p

Only problem is they're not doing the trade 2 PS3 games get 1 Free deal...?
http://www.gamestop.com/gs/trade-ins/trade-ins.asp#offers (Scroll to bottom of page, says it ends 7/29)

Is there something I can do to twist their arm? Btw, I know I'd have to fork over $10 b/c it's for games values $59.99 or lower, I'd just rather do that than $70 + tax >.>

i just finally played the demo today, this game is awesome( i bought a ps3 off my friend) lol im going to wait for a pricedrop...

New Expansions planned for Japan.

Tecmo have recently announced a number of expansions for Ninja Gaiden Sigma being released before the end of the year. In Japan, at least. The first expansion, available in Japan at the end of the month, will include a survival mode in which you must fight back a tidal wave of enemies with limited health. The second expansion will be available in September and will include a new time attack mode. Finally (for now) Rachel will get to play out the survival mode when the third expansion is released in October. There is currently no word on when they will be available in America or Europe.

But these expansions won't be free. It may be the case that you'll have to part with a number of shiny cents (and, potentially, even several dollars) if you want these extra nuggets of gameplay. The first expansion will cost the Japanese 315 yen (about $3), but since when did these prices translate directly over from region to region? Is this something you're likely to hand over money for?

Considering the Hurricane Packs basically rewrote the entire game and added hours of gameplay for free, it sucks to pay $3 for a time attack mode. Not surprising though, the HPs came out before microwalletrapes came into play.

I hope they patch up and tune the actual game though. for people who play for high karma scores, there are a number of problems (mostly that there are fights where it's literally impossible to get the karma bonus.)
They sound like they'd be $4.00.
That works for me, too bad they aren't free but I am not surprised at all that they aren't. Team ninja doesn't hand out anything for free......
I just beat Chapter 4 and this game is HARD.
It only gets easier trust me the more you practice and learn with Ryu you get better at the game. I never thought I'd beat it on normal but I did and am now going through it on hard mode.

Think the Hurricane packs would be incorporated into any downloadable content or are they already incorporated into the game?

I wouldn't know since I never "experienced" them :/

Too bad I am at the level where you have to play Rachel.
