the OFFICIAL Okami thread

tested the gamebridge I got today on my crappy laptop and it works fine... used okami... here's the test run:
Quick question: Does this game one of them blue bottom discs? Cause my PS2 doesnt care for them kind.
Blue discs (CDs) have been gone for a very long time. All the discs now are DVDs.

For a very long time? Like a year or so, I remember LEGO Star Wars was one.
For a very long time? Like a year or so, I remember LEGO Star Wars was one.
Really? That's odd.

Whew! Just beat the game. My total playtime was: 50hrs. 33mins. 3sec. This is one of the best games that I have played recently. Recommended to anyone who enjoys gaming, even my wife got into it.

Now bring on Godhand!
Still hoping it doesn't suck.
Same here. So far the previews have been ho hum. But after something like Okami, Clover can suck ass for a few games.

Did you know?
Ya know the one loading screen where if you tap X a paw print comes up? Well if you tap fast enough (and I mean fast) you'll receive a demon fang. I've only done it once (wanted to see how many paw prints I could get on the screen and then voila) so I don't know if you can keep doing it over and over again but it's a reason to wear your thumb out.

I need help with somethin sorta, I'm at the Ark so I'm assuming this is the last 'dungeon' before I see some credits. Throughout the game I've seen clover lights emitting from volcanic rocks but I never had the technique to crack em. After seeing like four of them in the S-Fields 100 years ago, I feel like I fucked up big time I missed an extra brush technique. Did I?

Oh and is there a new game+?

Nm, I went on the Gamefaqs message board. I missed more than I originally thought.

Yeah, the Ark is the last dungeon. I'd save on a separate file once you go in, cause you can't go back. Are you talking about the random rock floors with the light coming out of the holes? You need a super dig technique from the trainer.

My favorite track is "Susano Fights" or something along those lines.

About the loading screen demon fangs thing. If you run this off of HDLoader (which I am), it's pretty much impossible since the load times are basically cut in half.

Lol. That's funny. It's no big deal anyway. Scoring Demon Fangs is easy enough as is.
do you max out at 99,999 Yen?

I am trying to buy this weapon that is 100,00 Yen, and my Yen count won't go over the said amount.
Silly boy, you must not be reading all the logs and info that Issun and company are giving you.

Go to your praise upgrade screen and look at the very bottom.

Oops :)

I've never needed a bigger wallet/purse until this point, so I never spent my praise on it. I've been spending almost all my praise on just lives and ink spots.

Most of my praise has went toward a bigger wallet, and most of the rest has gone toward Astral Pouches. I've upgraded the ink things and health a bit, but not too much.

I like to get, *clears throat*, 'buck wild', with the celestial brush so I've upgraded that the most.

Just beat the game. Took me just over 43 hours.

I have two minor niggles about the end though.

a.) The game features a "point of no return," but is at least kind enough to warn you of such. Still, I wish I could play from the end of the game on my completed file to pick up what I missed. I have a save from before entering that point, so it's no biggie, but just a general game design that irks me. and

b.) The final boss wasn't as cool-looking or interesting as most of the previous bosses.

Neither of these are a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination though. Just slight imperfections that stood out compared to the sheer brilliance of what had come before. Still, I'd say it was easily the best game I've played of this generation and quite possibly of all-time. I can't wait to play it some more and find all the goodies I missed.

Hot diggity damn, this game sounds sweet. 43 hours!? For an action/adventure game, that is mammoth. I assume that's with 100% completion, and finding every little collectable?

That's probably more like 50 or 60 hours.

Not even close.

For example, one of the ongoing side-quests throughout the game is collecting "stray beads," of which there are 100. I didn't count how many I had when I beat the game, but looking at 'em at a glance I'd say I found about 50. I did a lot of the sidequests though, but there is still a ton left to do and find.

I sort of doubt I'll ever find all of it though. Using a guide would take all the fun away from it and I can't imagine finding it all without a guide. But rest assured there will be plenty of new goodies to discover when I go through the game again sometime next year.

I don't even want to know how huge Okami 2 will be on the PS3!

(I too have finished the game)

Before an Okami 2, I'd love to see an Issun side story.

How many of you guys got Deluge? If I didn't see it on Gamefaqs' Okami message board I would have never thought to go back and check that again. Kinda of a useless technique. IMO, I think the Ark should have had one more dungeon to it so you can get to use all of your brush techs. to solve some puzzles.
I don't even want to know how huge Okami 2 will be on the PS3!
Who says it has to be on the PS3? The Celestial Brush was practically made for the Wii.
Who says it has to be on the PS3? The Celestial Brush was practically made for the Wii.
I wasn't the biggest fan of the graphics. I think with a much more powerfull system Clover can do dazzling things. Plus, it was made from the ground up, and the developers said this, with the dual shock in mind (although it didn't feel like it sometimes).

Perhaps an upgraded port to the Wii but a sequel deserves to be on the PS3.

Considering the Wii is more powerful than the Xbox, and the PS2 pulled this masterpiece off (You're not a fan of the graphics?! What the crap were you playing?), I think the Wii is more than capable.

The game has a cool style but after awhile, blockiness got old to me. I don't know what it is, but human characters are just so blocky. Granted it's a design choice but when you look at every thing else it's like, "Why?" Kinda like how I feel that voice actors, or at least mouths, would make the drama more compelling. It's kinda just nitpicky stuff. Like it doesn't damn the game but I notice it (it most certainly doesn't damn the game!).

And another thing could be is that after 56 hours of playing the game, one could just get used to it. Lol, maybe it does such a great job (except where I've noted) that it doesn't even wow me (akin to playing a game that looks 90% like real life. Look so real that your mind just thinks it's real) like it should.

And on the Wii comment: It's like I want the PS3/360 power and the Wii controller. However, if I have to chose, I'll take the PS3/360 power over the Wii controller. This game can be done on a traditional controller and I'd really like to see the art really come to life. I mean would you just look at Oki's art? He looks so so so, I just can't find the word but he's doing it! Or what about just the imps. They have like a really cool and lanky style that doesn't translate to the game well imo. I guess tone down the brightness and up the darkness (But not like what happened to Prince of Persia. fuck no.)

Some changes I do like thought, like Issun's big ass head is better than him looking like a normal human.

Although it would be obviously better to just twirl your wrist about instead of using your thumb to put brush strokes on screen.

I personally prefer the anaolog as the brush feels more smooth amd less error prone...

the blockyness of the characters really adds alot more IMHO. It's like saying if Super Mario Brothers had better graphics it would be better (same for Katamari Damacy). In actuallity it would ruin a huge portion of what made those things good.
Okami is awsome.

I hope they make it on the PS3.
I have yet to beat it, but so far I am getting it stands alot stronger as being the only title in its series (or singles...?).

I would prefer to see new stuff from clover rather than a sequal since they have some great original creations coming fromt their direction.

The gaming industry needs less sequels and more original properties, though I wouldn't mind Clover revisiting the world of Okami in a few years.

There's probably going to be a sequel. You'll find out soon why.

I'm not sure if you've noticed Rolento but it's not true analog control. No matter how far you push it, the brush will still go the same distance. And good point about Katamari (I don't know why you mentioned Mario though. His character models have been improving.).

as well as the tendency to make bad sequels. I don't want them to VJ Okami.

the mario thing was specificly about the original game on the NES... not the entire series... if it were the series, I'd be totally wrong!
I'm not sure Okami sold enough to warrant a sequel even if they wanted to make one.
Why isn't it popular in Japan?
Why isn't it popular in Japan?
the same thing happened with Killer 7. Japan is a great place for making art based games, but its market is alot less open to it. In the US, it's awlays welcome... almost.

the first week sales didn't seem to hot, like 30,000 or something? but then Capcom said it performed well in their annual report. maybe word of mouth got around...

glad they're happy with how it performed...the game must've cost some big bucks to make considering it was in development for a few years.

Hmm. I wonder why that is? I guess the US is really the best overalll place for any game (except ones that really have a specific target audiance to them like those train sims).

Back to Okami. I kinda figured it would pick up steam eventually. I hope it does well here too.

Just finished it. One of the best games I've played in a very long time. I'd rank it up there with Oblivion in terms of keeping me engrossed in the game, as I couldn't put the damned thing down ever since I bought it. I think my first playthrough was around 47 hours or so, but I did alot of shit along the way (dragon fangs, etc).

I'm searching around for the total number of units sold for the game, but can't find anything solid. As for the storyline, it's top notch. Alot better than Wind Waker, IMO. I only wish the damned thing was progressive scan! I've got a 46" Samsung DLP, so it didn't take up the entire screen. I don't think I've played my PS2 this much in a very long time, if at all. Wore out my wireless Logitech controller in the process.

By the way, although I don't know if it's been posted, Capcom has some Okami wallpaper on its website.
There's probably going to be a sequel. You'll find out soon why.
Am I not supposed to ask about this?

Anyway, I'm about 34 hours in, so I'm pretty far along...and it's just getting better and better, as far as I'm concerned.

I have a question, though - sometimes, the options menu (the one when you press Select) randomly pops open in the middle of the game, when my hand is nowhere near Select. Any idea why this is popping up? Is the game defective?
still have yet to beat it... I havent gotten to play it for a week and a half so I'm kinda pissed. School is a bit too demanding ATM >_
same here. overall I think it's kind of a good thing. I've been now taking my time doing the sidequests and earning praise.

I'd like to finish the game, just because I have a lot of other stuff I need to play. At the same time though, I really don't want to rush through a game like this.
Finish it because you'll probably have more fun a second time through.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

That's true. Lately I've been doing a good number of sidequests to get brush upgrades and to upgrade my ink slots. I also spent a couple hours collecting Demon Fangs so that I could get the water tablet.

I'm about 31 1/2 hours in, and I just started going through the temple with all the ice/cannons.

i'm still only about 12 hours in. I'm on the quest to find the other dogs.

love this game, wish i had more large blocks of time to play it.
