The official "OMG Wii IS HERE!!!!" HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY THREAD!
My local Fred Meyer said they will have 25-50 Wii's for sale tomorrow and tons of accessories (I might get a classic controller there). I think they got NO PS3's, so there's definitely more Wii's going out - but we already knew that ;).

All the Electronics employees wer wearing white "Wii Play" shirts.

There was no line, by the way, as of 5pm. They open at 7am.

Now I get to settle in and watch THE football game of the day (not that minor East Coast skirmish that was on earlier today - yes, I consider Michigan and Ohio to be the East Coast, none of this mid-WEST BS, they ain't anything close to west). While I watch the game I'll be cleaning and rearranging my entertainment center to get ready for the Wii.

If Cal can pull off the win and I get my Wii as planned at midnight, this will be a VERY good day, indeed, despite my PS3 not selling . My wife is headed to Target to get some normal stuff and I asked her to pick up a Classic Controller if they have them out. I have a feeling EB won't have any left to sell tonight - should have preordered one. I'd buy a Wii Points card too, but I'd rather get that with store credit.
You've got to be kidding yourself if you think OSU/Michigan wasn't the game of the year, an early championship game.
I'd go with Trauma Center
Agreed. If nothing else, Rayman seems more likely to drop in price sooner.

Well I guess I'm gonna go to Wal-Mart later and check out the campers, as well as try to get Zelda. If I can't get big Z, then I'm gonna go to K-Mart in the morning I s'pose.
Just called my local Wal-Mart, who said they have no copies of Zelda. WTF?!
I'd go anyway unless it's out of the way from other stores (not the first place I'd go, but I'd still go if I couldn't find it elsewhere). I don't call places cuz I never know when I'm going to get an idiot or somebody too lazy to really check anything. I just go to a place where there are plenty of stores around and just check other places.

Yeah Id never trust a place to check, the girl from CC said they wont know how many Wii's they're getting until Saturday night, and the same girl told me they didnt know when I called earlier today.

Went to Target and got me a Wii dvd disc for the 1 cent....assked about the Wii giftcards and they said theyll have them tomorrow with the launch...asked bout the PS3 giftcard and they had so I just took one and walked out the door...no need to put any money in it..

I didn't think I'd have a problem getting one in Tulsa, but all the walmarts around me have more people than units. Anybody have any ideas for tonight? Will Bestbuy or TRU be having a midnight launch? Any Ideas?
Thanks

Edit: What about CC? Will they be open till midnight? I cant imagine a ton of people going there for the Wii.

Any EST CAGers leaving for a midnight launch at EB/GS soon? :) I'm hitting the road about 11:35-40 to get there a little bit ahead of time and maybe be the frist one in the store to check out and leave

Some woman bought my place in line at Walmart for $200 cash. I suppose I can wait a few more hours and get one at Best Buy for a $50 net loss.

Anybody watching this live feed of the NYC Wii Launch event on GameSpot? There's some stupid acrobatic-type group performing, which makes me wonder what other crazy stuff is going to occur there.

fuck! I don't even have enough for it! I only have like $200 to spend...I'll have to wait another 2 weeks. Damn it.:bomb:

I'm leaving in prolly like 20 minutes. I cannot fucking teh wait. I realized that I have to play Zelda first... there's no way I can avoid it.

Well to go out and camp or not. That is the question. Just drove by two different Targets and there were already around 10 people at both. I really want this thing, but shit its like 38 outside right now.

Grrrr, sometimes I hate being on the West Coast. 2 hours 45 minutes for me. Course I'll be there a half hour before with a bat in case anyone decides to try to liberate my system.
You've got to be kidding yourself if you think OSU/Michigan wasn't the game of the year, an early championship game.
I didn't say it wasn't the "game of the year" in general terms, I just couldn't give a rats ass ;) (it wasn't MY game of the year).

Anyway, the College Football season is now over, time for the Wii!
I'm heading out in abouwt 1/2 hour to hit up GR (just to see if they got any more games) and then go to EB to check out with my stuff to make sure I get one of the extra Wiimotes (since they were shorted on them), then wait around to get my system at midnight! I'm all set up at home - yeah, I'll be using crap cables, but it's better than nothing .

Man i wana go to sleep now so tomorrow will come faster, i preordered mine at TRU and they open at 10 am, 11 hours and 47 minutes wiimaining.

I tried. Half-assed, but still tried. Went to two Meijers and they had no extra systems for walk-ins. Drove by a Wal-Mart and saw three kids walking out empty-handed so I didn't bother going in. I'll just wait 'till I see this back somewhere online. Free shipping and no tax would be good. I can wait.

Well Wii-day for me is officially tomorrow. I was out tonight and decided to check a few more stores for extra Wii Remotes/Nunchuks (my store has already told me that they have no extra controllers at all). I found a place with one last Wii Remote and a few Nunchuks. The remote was regular price, but the nunchuk was $24.99, so I shelled out a few extra bucks for the nunchuk.

I also picked up Red Steel. Oddly enough, I picked it up from the store that told me that had no extra copies of Red Steel available. Evidently, they just got a shipment in today.

I am incredibly amazed at how small the remote is. It looks so much bigger in pictures/video.

Off topic: I also picked up a Nintendo 64 today. I don't know why. Its the only Nintendo console I don't own, so I decided to get one.

8 hours 15 minutes.... im shaking... i cant sleep... this is worse than when i was 8 and it was chritmas eve

did same, got my brother on wiimote/nunchuck/red steel retrieval

every place in town has received half of their expected shipment and has already handed out vouchers for their full stock ... i knew this was going to happen ...

Haaaaaaaaappy Wii day! It was great at our Wal-Mart, like I described in another thread. I'm so glad I didn't wait at Toys R Us, man oh man. I'll support them in January, like I said before though...but Wal-Mart was awesome, they treated us great. Sucks for the 80+ people that were in line, though! (There were only 20 units, I don't know why the other 60+ stuck around.)

HAPPY Wii DAY =)

Left my house at 12:30pm, didn't get home until 1:30AM

LONG ASS DAY.

I was number 44 in line at Toys R Us, and they gave away 160 Wiis!

Good times. Time to go back!!! JUST Set everything up!

Jesus, we went out around 7PM to the local Target (that's getting 120 units) just to check if there was line, and there were already 90 people in line. So we got our butts in line right there and then. I didn't think we'd have to camp so early, but clearly I was wrong.

Anyways, just dropped by home to use the restroom and grab some water. Hopefully I'll have a Wii next time I'm on here :p
Question.
How come the blue light doesn't stay on when you are playing games?
Is confused...
Never was meant to. It just is supposed to be on when the system is turned on, I think - so you can easily insert games in the dark.

Anyway I'm having severe problems getting my Wii to access the internet via my USB adapter (tried turning off my firewall, resetting a few things, etc - and the Wii and the USB adapter interact, but it apparently cannot at all access the internet - so that sucks).

Beyond that, dare I say this could end up being my favorite console ever.

Excite Truck is fun as hell. Madden is tough to get used to, but still good - I haven't gotten the hang of it yet, though, especially on defense. Wii Sports is awesome - I don't like bowling like some people do but I think Wii Boxing is about a million times better than what people made us believe.

That's all I've played thus far...still have Red Steel, Monkey Ball, and Zelda to try!

Got mine at 12:01 from EB - went right home and set it up. Man, I haven't even put a game in and I've been screwing around for over an hour. I hooked it up to the Internet and went through a few updates. Then I put in my SD card and messed around with photos. Now I got my Wii system code to post on CAG (I'll assume there's a thread for it, haven't looked yet)! Then I'm headed back to create Mii's for the family and play a bit of Wii Sports before I hit the sack. The kids are gonna be thrilled in the morning. I'm sure they will only let me get about 4 hours of sleep (me to bed at 4am, up at 8am). It's just like Christmas!

By the way - no worries about the SD card type. I think I have a fairly slow one and the 250 pictures I put on it popped up no problem and it cycles them very quickly. I even changed the slide show background music to some Pink Floyd. This thing is amazing... The Wii had no problem picking up my photos and music that I dumped on the card yesterday.
do I have to buy memory for the wii? or does it come with a little somethin'?
It comes with 512 MB of on-board flash memory, so no need whatsoever. The SD card is the only way to get pictures, MP3's, and MPEGs on it though. Just buy any old SD card, too, not the ones being sold as "Wii memory cards", they are expensive.

Here's my EB haul:

Did anyone else get any of this stuff - sweatband, iron-ons, a pen, etc... Pretty cool. I asked about the Tshirts someone mentioned and he said whoever gave those out will be in trouble because they are Black Friday specials. By the way, all EB's will be getting more Wiis on Black Friday.

And I think Nintendo needs to pay me for the use of this photo:

By the way, we got twin girl kittens and the leading names in our household are Peach and Daisy ;). This is Peach in the photo. They thought the box smelled very interesting.

I logged onto the online store and browsed the games available there. Heck, I have my Wii Points card, I should have just bought Mario 64. You can also link your Wii Shop Channel account with your Nintendo.com account - that is pretty nice. You can enter your Nintendo.com name and password.

Then I played Wii Sports. Pretty fun, though I can see how it would get boring pretty quickly. I'm glad I have Rayman to play as well (since I'm holding off on Zelda till I get the component cable). The graphics aren't too bad using composite on my 51" HDTV - just the text and edges of things are much fuzzier than I'm used to with my GC and PS2 (hooked up via component). I didn't know about the Wii Sports Fitness age - kind of like Brain Age. My first attempt I got an age of 45. Not too bad, only slightly older than I really am ;).

I made Mii's for all the family, loaded up a bunch of pictures, and got it all ready for the kids in the AM (hehe - it is 4am already). Time to take a nap.

1. Anyone know if the Wii comes with an ethernet cable so I can connect it to my router?

2. Also, can the Wii play all Gamecube games so there's no pont in keeping it? I do not have a gameboy player and I never will.

Thanks!

Thanks!
1. Nope, separate adapter for that. Or use the Wi-Fi dongle.

2. Yep, unless there's some goofy stuff that doesn't work, can't think of what would ever cause an issue though, considering direct compatibility of accessories.

Damn all you people. I'm gonna hop in the shower so I have nothing left to do today, and get to EB before 9, in case they open early. If not, I'll dick around for a bit and head back before 10 (I only live 5 minutes away).

Do how do you get online with it? I've got a wireless Linksys 54G router but I'd rather be hard wired...
