Why do people care about gamerpics.
I onno. . .

Because they're a fun way, to help differentiate yourself online.

For example, why do you even have an avatar pic next to your posts on CAG?

One big example of why gamerpics and forum pics help is that it allows you to quickly recognize who is posting, without having to look over, read text. I can just make note of the image the person is using as a guide.

And this is why I hate when people change their forum avatar...:bomb:

Meh... my method works 95% of the time.

Loving the new store - what an improvement!

I kind of figured they'd have some new content up when they launched it, though. I was hoping I could at least get Still Alive. Guess that will have to wait until Thursday.

LOL. ManaKnight does that, say about 1.5 times a week?

Anyway new store is good. Just wish they'd add some more videos. Even it was just some Music Videos or what not. I need more 1080P content!

Yeah... And I'm always wondering who the new guy is who's posting like he runs the place.

The only reason I have one on CAG is because it's custom.

The one I chose on PS3 I really don't care about, and chose because you have to choose one. I've grown fond of my 8-Bit pixel starship though.

I just want to clarify that this upcoming firmware update isn’t related to GTA IV. For those of you who may still have an issue playing the game on your PS3, we have identified a solution that should resolve the issue. You can contact SCEA Consumer Services for support — their contact info and hours of service, as well as more information on this issue, are available in our Knowledge Center (http://playstation.custhelp.com/).

from the comments section...

Wonder if this is a pre-strike for Metal Gear Solid 4. Going to wait for them to put it on the site before I test GTA, but doubt it will help reading that.

And their "solution" which they don't seem to want to come out and publicly announce (bad pr?? hmm...) is that they will wave any fees (systems with or without warranties) if you're having trouble with the game from what I am finding online.

I haven't had any problems with GTA freezing since the patch was released.

I may have only put 3-5 hours into it since then, but still, the move from 3 in half and hour to none in 3-5 is a big change.

There were two big freezing issues on the PS3. The 1st one was solved via the patch which you mentioned.

Then there are lockups happening within seconds of launching the game and randomly throughout. Not only no the PS3, but also the 360.

Lets compare, I've played... like 1 minute in total if you add up all the times I attempted to play. :)

A firmware update would have been nice. Now its weeks without a PS3 if you send it back. Maybe over a month if their already thin stock of refurbished units are being sucked up. Better hurry and get in the queue people!
Zoinks. Really? Every time you load up GTA your console shits out on you?
Yeah it alwa- wait, is that sarcasm? Okay sorry, I'll go back to my corner and cry some more. :whistle2:#

I believe this firmware update came with the GTAIV disc. Or at least it appeared to update to that on my PS3 when I went to do the mandatory install.

So, I don't think this is that new of a firmware update.

I think that was just an update for GTAIV itself if it did that when you went to start the game.

So FW2.4 has been said to have in-game communication and trophies. Looks like Konami is pushing Sony to have that out by the time their game is released in June. It has been whispered in other places but here is something recent.

From reading my site, you know that I have some friends in the industry.

What I have been told is that Konami is heavily pushing Sony to hurry up and get 2D trophies, and in game communication, ready in time for the release of MGS4.

MGS4 is all ready to be released so what could Konami have up their sleeve big enough to persuade Sony to getting going, and release those features?

I'm not surprised. I'm pretty sure Sony quietly updated the FW when MGS The Essential Collection came out to make sure the old games worked on the PS3. I'm sure that was by Konami's request. Kind of cool that a developer might be able to nudge Sony along. Because I know a lot of them want the features ASP, but only groups like Konami and get them jumping it seems.
Is in-game communication only via headsets?
I think it is so you can access messages while in a game. Right now you have to come completely out of a game to send or read a message from a friend. Not sure about headset chat, would be cool though.

Also looks like 2.35 did add something potentially cool.

According to Watch Impress PS3 Firmware 2.35 allows developers to give players the option to upload videos to YouTube directly from within the game. This feature can already be seen (as from this morning) with Mainichi Issho, the Japanese-only interactive news reading service, which is great fun.

The features are there, its up to the developers to use them. Now developers can use divx video in their games as well.

took some figuring out, but I like that sony added this. this is going to help out alot of devs decide to use it.

This makes me wish Warhawk and GTA had replay options, although I don't think there's enough server space in the world to save all the crazy stuff that happens in GTA.

I thought maybe a video would help me understand what that game is all about, but it's having the opposite effect.

I hear it's not really a game, just a thing that reads the news from RSS feeds. Pretty interesting.

From the rumor mill, I've read that the 2.4 update with trophies is planned for June, but that most developers won't actually get the 2.4 dev kits until the end of June, after the firmware's release.

The MGS team is probably working with the latest kits straight from Sony, feel sorry for other devs though.

No word on whether 2.4 will also contain in-game XMB or cross game invites but even if the update did, developers will have to update code to make use of it.

in some ways it is a game, but mainly a news feed. I've played paper, scissors, rock with some japanese people online in the game. it's worth a download and i still think that sony should release an american version since it's always something new everyday.

The cool thing is that this is now a feature that ANY developer can put into their game. That RSS reader "game" is just the first to do so.

And god, if Warhawk had a Halo 3 type replay system.

Devs just download a firmware update, no need for a new kit.

Do you guys remember when they mentioned PS User Blogs that will go along with Home? Would be cool if you could make a post about how your teamed kicked the snot out of a rival clan in R2 and then you could add in a video of your greatest moments during the match.

Say, in all this talk about upcoming trophies, has anyone seen mention of the weirder names for the PS3 "achievements" that we've heard before? These were names like: accomplishments, entitlements, etc...?

I think they may have settled on the name Trophies, which is a really good name for them, especially since you get little images for the XMB, and 3d models for Home.

Take with a huge grain of salt:
Before I start, I need to say one thing. All of the following information has come from an insider I am in contact with and everything isnt ’set in stone’. Things can change a lot, especially when it involves Sony. If any of the information is wrong, its because plans have changed and not because it was made up.

* 2.40 will allow you to access your XMB chat features from every game.
* 2.40 will also include 2D trophies from the XMB where 70% of current titles will support them straight away
* Video Coding and groundwork for the Movie Store (Out Sept)

My insider notes however that not all of the above may make it before Metal gear Solid comes out.

Oh and Super Stardust HD will have Online Co-op sometime soon.
