Well, I'm happy In-Game XMB is coming out! :lol:
How about y'all!? ;)
I hate that In-Game XMB is coming out.
Scratch that last point, looks like there is gonna be a sound effect when unlocking trophies.

On a more important note, it looks like custom soundtracks won't be available for every game. It'll only work for games that get patched or that come with the feature when released.
If a developer does their job properly, the soundtrack won't suck and you won't need custom soundtracks. I can kinda see the advantages for this feature, but is it really that important over other things like in-game voice chat?

Happy about trophies although limited support. Will be playing SSHD just out of curiosity. Too bad I suck at Warhawk tho.
Nah, it's just that everyone bitches at everything. I just don't understand how something can be added and everyone is bitching like crazy...

Just play your games on whatever console you like and stop bitching about everything that comes out. I'm definitely not saying that this update is the most amazing thing ever, but how the hell can you complain about additions? I understand it should have been sooner, but just like rumble it's finally here so stop whining. You cry before getting then you smile after and go eat your cookie. And this isn't like it's the final update . . .

All I hear is, "I hate the trophy system! Ingame XMB isn't good enough! I don't want to DL PS2 games!" Let's try it first k? And yea, I do defend the PS3 because I think it's a great console and tired of the insane criticism it gets from the begging. And also this is the internets/forum.

PS3 does need more functionality, I agree, but they promise all this in Home, if that doesn't bring it then i'll be disappointed. But, I'm not an impatient bastard, I'd rather just play some games.
See, I don't consider myself a bitch, I consider myself a realist. Trophy support means fuck-all when you have THREE (count 'em, three) games that will support it on Wednesday, no certainly of retroactive trophies (and, actually, the assumption that they won't ever exist), and the only future titles that will support them won't be around until September or later.

Whoopie. I'm calling a poorly implemented feature what it is: poorly implemented. Imagine if three titles utilized the Dual Shock at release. Then you'll get where I'm coming from.

I'm coming from a perspective that I'm not loyal to any company or console. That hunk of plastic and solder doesn't love me back. That's all I know. Hell, if anything, the insinuation that I'm anti-Sony is laughable, since I own EVERY ONE of my multiplatform games on PS3. Add that to the fact that my 3rd 360 died today, my Wii is collecting dust, and you're hard pressed to paint me as anti-PS3.

Unless you're part of the crowd that thinks anything less than unrepentant reverence for anything Sony does means I hate everything about the company. But that just makes you a fool. I hope you aren't a fool.

BTW, Home sucks. Really. Still sucks. Sims Online-quality sucks. Even if my avatar has cool glasses like I do; Home still sucks.

As a realist... do you think that you could just enjoy what's being offered at this time?

You've made your point, yes Trophy support is limited - half assed on day one. Everyone knows it... but the difference between you and most, is that they're enjoying it as is, and later when its (trophy system) is expanded and more titles released support it then people will enjoy it more.

I don't know. This whole trophy thing kinda leaves me pondering if I should finish current playthroughs I'm on or wait until later because of trophies being non-retroactive (vaguely speaking, I'd bet money that DMC4 would give you trophies retroactively given how it was setup if they were implemented) and the question of which games would support trophies outside of the...8 games Sony mentioned is also up in the air.

Warhawk is another question altogether, as a lot of people I've seen are worried about that since it's an online game.

Remembering how I was when I first started getting achievements, I hope I don't get horribly addicted to earning trophies. Just a matter of whether or not I start playing Heavenly Sword and Uncharted now or wait to see if they'll update those titles with trophy support.
Whatever I feel like that day. 2.4 isn't going to make me play a specific game.
Same here, which will probably be MGO. Custom soundtracks is nice, but I'm really to lazy to rip everything to the ps3, so I just either turn on the stero or my zune and listen to that. Don't care for trophies, don't need some damn pissing contest to get enjoyment out of a game and I rarely message anyone anyways, though it'll be nice for certain games.
I thought there were only two third party games that will actually support Trophies after the 2.4 patch comes out? Or did I miss an announcement?

Edit: Via Joystiq

* BUZZ! Quiz TV
* LittleBigPlanet
* MotorStorm Pacific Rift
* NBA 09
* PAIN**
* PixelJunk Eden
* Resistance 2
* SOCOM: Confrontation
* Super Stardust HD**
* Warhawk**

** Requires game update to install Trophies. (And requires you to play again to unlock them.)

Update: PS3 Fanboy informs us of the first two third-party games (!) confirmed to feature Trophies: BioShock and Tiki Games' self-published PSN shooter, Novastrike.
Aww damn .. no Uncharted trophies? :cry:

I'm confused as to why Sony says this updated "enables" custom soundtracks. The bowling game has supported custom soundtracks for months, and the developers of Burnout Paradise developed a soundtrack patch months ago (though it hasn't been released yet.) So obviously, it was already possible to do custom soundtracks.

can we listen to music in game through our computers the way i do on XBL? I use that quite frequently, but wouldn't start ripping MP3's on the PS3
Damn.

I didn't really know of many features when I picked up my PS3, but custom soundtracks was one feature I missed. I just want to stream my music from the PC...I don't want to put everything on the damn HDD! :bomb:
Make no mistake, I'm happy about the new in-game XMB. But the things I wanted to use the in-game XMB for (trophies and streaming music) are only halfway implemented and are gonna be pretty useless for me.

I like this post. I own a PS3 and understand that it has a metric asston of potential. As is constantly said on the CAGcast, these features should have been there on day one. We're getting them nearly two years later and they're half-assed at best. Sure, now Sony can say "hey, we listen to our users and give them what they want".

The reason for this whole SNAFU is that none of these features were even considered at PS3 launch, so that's why half the PS3 library won't support in-game music or trophies. I can understand if they needed to delay the 2.40 firmware past launch to get everything ready, but the crucial error here was not providing guidelines like the 360 has for in-game music and Achievements. Want to put a game on the 360? Gotta support it! If Sony had simply made that statement at the onset of the PS3 we wouldn't have these problems. They truly thought they could get away with the Quit-Game XMB.

Either Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Very hard mode), Uncharted (1st time playing it), or MGS4 (BB hard mode.)

Too bad there are no trophies for those games. I haven't touched SSHD in a while though, so maybe I'll play that.
Do we actually know there won't be any trophies ever? Just not Wednesday for sure...?
On wednesday there will only be 1 or 2 ... But my guess is that if nothing has been announced for previous games by around sept this year, then they aren't going to get them period.

I'll probably play some SSHD, going away for the weekend so I don't want to restart mgs 4 yet. It would be nice if they add them for pixeljunk monsters too since I'll probably play that too, and maybe some COD 4.

I'm sure patches for trophy support will come flooding in, but not for every game of course.

I'll try to earn a few in SSHD to see how it works.

I guess I will play PAIN...although, MLB 08 does not leave the console lately (unless I watch a movie). I still have Uncharted unplayed....just need time to play.

Warhawk, just because that's what I've been playing recently. Will be nice to use a custom soundtrack though, instead of having to go to my laptop.
can we listen to music in game through our computers the way i do on XBL? I use that quite frequently, but wouldn't start ripping MP3's on the PS3
Nope. No streaming. The music has to be MP3s on your PS3's hard drive.
Strange that Uncharted has no trophies, since there were "treasures" in the game.
Exactly! I'm assuming this will be one of the games that gets a patch in the very near future. Developers have to know that Trophies/Achievements get people to spend more time with their product.
Wait...they added Achievements (Trophies) to the PS3 but you can only get them by replaying a game? Wow.
Yeah...my understanding is that it's because the game saves on the PS3 aren't encrypted in any way. What's to stop someone from downloading saves from friends to artificially inflate their trophy ranking?
I'll probably play some SSHD, going away for the weekend so I don't want to restart mgs 4 yet.
I think I'm going to have to finally download Stardust.
On wednesday there will only be 1 or 2 ... But my guess is that if nothing has been announced for previous games by around sept this year, then they aren't going to get them period.
I see. I agree with what you say too.

Those are in-game custom soundtracks, this is custom soundtrack support through in-game XMB.

How would developers support a non-existant feature all the way back at the launch. Or are you alleging that Sony had this stuff ready to go at launch and held it back for whatever reason?

Hey guys, remember the in-game XMB stuff is coming out in "phases" and the next update is only phase one. Don't know what will be in the next phase but we might see voice chat and other cool features then. This is basically the foundation we've all been hoping for.

Sony mentioned a bunch of times that they have been reading their blog and looking at feedback. So maybe them "waiting" (in quotes for a certain someone :) ) to update now is a good thing as it allowed the actual PS3 owners to help shape the design of the features to come.

No, the problem is that they didn't have it ready at launch and made absolutely no provision for it in the first two years of PS3 titles. It's quite common for software developers to implement provisions for future features without actually implementing the features. Sony could have told early PS3 developers that the firmware would need access to the audio hardware during games and that all games must allow for their own soundtracks to be muted at the firmware's request. Likewise, they could have laid out some API calls for trophies (this is how the 360 handles achievements) early on and told devs to go ahead and put those calls in the game, but the firmware would simply ignore them until the final version was released.

Anyways, I did watch a concert video on Blu-ray last weekend and that was pretty cool.

Looks like trophy updates can support retroactive trophies, according to Criterion Games:

A quick summary of what we can tell you about PlayStation Trophy support in Burnout Paradise:
 • We will support PlayStation Trophies in a future update of Burnout Paradise
 • (But if won't be in Codename: Cagney update)
 • Trophies will be awarded based on your progress in your existing save game - so, when the update arrives the trophies you have earned will reflect the progress you've made in the game at that time (so you won't have to replay the game again to earn trophies)*
* We can reveal that this is why your Burnout Paradise save game has always been locked to your PlayStation Network id - so we could guarantee that when PlayStation Trophies arrived that your save game would reflect your progress.

Sorry if this has been asked already...

But are there any news/rumors of what games will have future patches to add trophy support.

Also about the trophies, is the thought its just going to be one trophy per game, or what? Sorry, I haven't been reading up on this, I've been at work for the past week at 4:30 am - ???.
