To use the shut down after download and install, make sure you use the Shut Down System command from the User tab of the XMB, not the menu you get when you hold down the PS button.

And yes, it will finish every download and install it then shut down. Finally!

Now all they need to do is add in universal voice support and an XMB based invite system.

I read they can't have universal voice support because of a copywrite.

I'm sorry too cool, but your PS3 sounded like it may have a problem. :(

And the only patent concerning is MS is the one about universal custom soundtracks.
It's on a game by game basis rather than overlaying the sound over anything.

Now all they need to do is add in universal voice support and an XMB based invite system.
XMB style cross-game invites will never work on PS3. Many games don't use invites or some have their own invite system. Unless every developer was willing to patch, it will never happen or never work the way it should.

I could careless about voice messaging since PS3 supports USB keyboards. Voice chat will never be standard for games due to Sony doesn't provide developers with the software to implement voice chat. If you are talking about voice chat with a friend in any game, it cannot come until Sony reduces the OS footprint even more (technically at the moment, the memory footprint isn't low enough to make it possible. It was finally reduced enough to make in-game XMB possible).

cross game invites are still important. Sony could just handle their introduction like every other new feature, just include the feature now, but mandate that every game after a certain deadline must use invites if you have a multiplayer mode that supports them.

Developers just need to stop being lazy and start supporting the XMB-based invite system that's already in a bunch of games instead of their own systems. The interface could use a little polishing up (sorting the list with offline friends at the bottom would be a good start), but it still seems like cross-game invites are already possible and Sony's not holding them back. Just hope they don't model it after BF:BC's implementation though, because that's an absolute joke.

Like let's say someone is playing CoD4 or some other older PS3 game, and they got a cross game invite to another game. Due to not being supported for CoD4 or some other game, it may not work. That's why they'll just wait until PS4 if anything to get it right (along with a few other things, 2011 isn't all that far away).

Who cares about older games. Seriously IW has moved on. Cross game invites will be there eventually, along with private voice chat too. And Mana, can you look into your crystal ball and tell me when I am going to hit the lottery?

I'm really hoping that Sony doesn't drop a new console in 2011. Most people I know still haven't let go of their PS2 and without a price drop I don't see them changing that stance soon.

I'm sure private voice chat will be here soon. Cross game invites will hopefully get done too, but I'm guessing it'll be neutered version of what the 360 has.
Anyone able to get hulu playing fullscreen? When I hit the fullscreen button, I get an enlarged corner of the picture but that's it.
Just zoom in, it's the same thing...

But, can anyone get 480p workin on Hulu?

It appears that firmware 2.50 also added one other feature, meant to help PS3 owners that are trying to troubleshoot their system. A recovery menu (pictured above) gives users access to a variety of restore features. It will even allow users to install a new firmware update, should anything go wrong during the installation process. To access the menu, you must hold down the power button to turn on the PS3 until you hear three beeps. Then the menu will show up.

OK WTF!?!?! I did the update and after I was done with GTA IV last night/this morning I was surfing the net a bit(CAG) on the PS3 and talking in messages with a buddy from PSN.

All of a sudden, my PS3 lets out a single beep while I'm typing up a return message.

Just a bit before that, the on-screen keyboard was a bit slow.

WTF. Am I seeing the beginning of the end of my PS3 after this update?

Some sites are reporting that 2.5 allows for multiplt BT headsets hooked up. At least I think thats what they are saying. Need to brush up on my French.
was just about to post this. Hopefully this is in regards of fixing the fallout 3 issue.
I was thinking about LBP's keyboard glitch.
I was thinking about LBP's keyboard glitch.
What is the keyboard glitch? I have LPB, but can't play it yet.

According to the blog link:

A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software has been addressed.
Is it just me or is this update taking forever to download?
No, it's definitely taking forever.

I've noticed that with Warhawk too...

LBP also uses the old keyboard entry as opposed to the full onscreen QWERTY option they added to the PS3 later. Does this update fix this or is this a game-specific issue?

I noticed that if I go to send a message in GTAIV to a friend I'm playing against, the on-screen keyboard is really, really slow.

Hopefully, this has fixed that issue. Otherwise, this is just another useless update for me. Thanks Sony. Now how about adding something really fuckin' useful, like PS2 BC via software.

I can't believe some are saying the update took them forever to download, because I actually timed the update for once, and it took me 3 minutes to download it (no joke). It took longer to install the update though.

I was able to go to Which Wich, sit down and eat, return a movie, and it was barely installing when I got home. That was around 8pm.

I kept track of the time because I downloaded the firmware at 56 after, and it finished at 59 after (I was watching the time carefully since I was very eager for election results). As I was installing I was on the internet, but that took around 6 minutes.

Those who have slower than normal downloads might want to configure their router for PlayStation Network opening up ports (many said it helps):
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

I've done that a while ago and the download speeds between PS3/360 are identical for me. The ONLY time my PS3 downloads have gotten a bit on the slower side was during particular times on Thursday when the servers got overloaded. Although there's no denying that you may get a slightly slower speed on PS3 because since PSN IS a free service, Sony had to make a small cutback, which is putting more people on a particular server to download (especially since firmware updates are around 100MB, and don't feel you need to download a few megs per second because it's on the smaller side).

Yeah my PS3 is forwarded correctly, it's typically very fast but this update took a while to download. I was probably placed on an overloaded server or something.

Doesn't really matter since I tend to set it and forget it. I have it shutoff when it's done.
