I enjoy the afrika theme(thanks for the vids) I was able to D/L the Yakuza 3 demo also. I wish that was coming out here :( I don't like the friends list or the ticker. Everything else is cool. I have not had any issues with my white DS3, I've also read something about Uncharted freezing, but I have tested it out yet.

Alright counting out 54 clicks is gonna suck. Also I got the Katamary Tribute demo but cannot start a game. Im not cut out for the Jap store browsing/downloading

My white DS3 seems to be OK.. Afrika theme is nice, had to turn the brightness down a bit so I could read the damn white text on the XMB :)

I'm still waiting to hear of a workaround. I'd like to go online but I'm not risking my now rare 60gb model on a bunch of crap that has nothing to do with gaming. For a console that advertises it can 'do everything' it sure isn't doing half that much at the moment...

Anyone have trouble with MvC2. I got the game a while back and did some single-player and training but no online. After the update; I tried to go online and the game froze during the search for games. It was completely frozen (well, the game music still played). XMB wouldn't get me out either. I had to do a hard reset. Is this a MvC2 problem or a FW 3.0 problem? I just heard about some other problems and thought I'd ask in here.

everything seems great on a 60gb bc that I updated.

So what other exclusive and free stuff do the UK, HK, and Japan stores have? Maybe some of us can start a thread and update it.

Holy crap I thought the new firmware screwed with my Batman game.. the video and audio got all weird like the PS3 was gonna lock up, I didn't realize that was part of the cutscene LOL

You're missing out on the sparkles.

Yeah, let me trade working games for sparkles... Sony is really going downhill lately, it's sad to watch after defending it so long from the xbots. Why do they waste time on dumb stuff like this? And what possible reason could they have to require us to use it? All I want is the games. No movies, no music, no pics, Home, browser, or updates. Just the games and access to the store and game patches/DLC.

Your games are all effectively broken because you refuse to get online and update so you can enjoy the stuff you want to enjoy. You're so paranoid that your system will be a part of the very small group of borked consoles that you make Cheapest look like he enjoys updating his PS3.

We all know 3.01 is just around the corner. It always happens. Sony makes a big firmware update, something goes wrong, and X.X1 hits a couple of weeks later.

My games work fine. Although I've only put a tiny bit of time into LBP and Hot Shots Golf since the update.

Argh my PS3 is still not here...I guess it will be here Friday....

Anyways, sounds like the general consensus is that the 3.0 update is not all that grand?

It's alot of fluff and not much substance really. They added sparkles to the wave design that undulates in the background of the XMB and a bunch of superfluous stuff otherwise.

In other words: MEH

While it's possible they may have fixed 'something' behind the scenes, the dashboard now looks like a big advertisement board for Sony crap.
And your friends list now looks to have been designed for children, and by someone with a serious lack of imagination.

Most people who are bitching, are doing it for the sake of bitching. Everyone ive shown 3.0 to loves it, its just a bunch of people who hate change complaining. They'll shut up soon enough, no worries.

Not sure if anyone has covered this (dont have the time to read through all 100+ pages of the post) but anyone know if sony is ever gonna add an update to allow you to play your own music in the games like the 360 does? I mean I know some games like pain let you load through the game screen, but Im talking full integration like my 360 does where it actually replaces the music of the games with your own. And no, I dont want a flame war about which is better blah blah, Im just curious if anyone knows if they are gonna release a patch that allows this.

Short answer: It's up to the developer to include custom soundtracks.

Long answer: It's been a widespread misconception that universal custom soundtracks weren't implemented because of patent issues (MS does own a patent relating to this). However, recently a Sony tipster, revealed that Sony had universal custom soundtracks ready to go - the problem was it wouldn't work on certain titles. EA was the publisher for some of the incompatible games. EA did not want Sony to release this feature without it working on their games in fear that they would look "inferior". They threatened to stop supporting Sony if they went forward, so Sony backed down. Instead Sony included the tools for custom soundtracks but it is up to the dev to include it in their game. According to the tipster, the same exact issue is why there is no universal voice chat.

Disclaimer: This should be considered a rumor and was predictably denied by both Sony and EA. However, the aforementioned tipster posted information on the PS3 slim prior to release that was pretty much exact in detail thus granting him some sort of credibility.

Thanks for the info. So if I understand this correct, due to some BS posturing and legal crap, I have to listen to the same songs over and over again when playing my PS3? Thats bull because I know for a fact that there are a lot of games on the 360 that I enjoyed more just because I could use a custom soundtrack. Damn EA not wanting to look inferior instead of just, I dunno, making their games correctly. I guess I have no real reason to look foward to these updates then.

is there any way to make the icons / tool bar smaller? secondly, i heard of new themes based on the 3.00 update. are any of those themes out now?

I don't think there is a way to shrink the xmb, it was fine before but seems a little too big now. Two themes are available, the LBP one is 2.99 and the japan one with zebras is free.

thanks. yea as a launch system guy i've seen the xmb evolve. whilst i like the changes i dont not like the sizing of the bar or the non integration of updates to certain sub categories. anyway ill be downloading that zebra theme soon. thanks

so g4 is reporting the system update is rendering counterfiet controllers unusable.. so people with those might be out of luck

That is my only complaint. The XMB got bigger and just seems to envelope to much of the screen now.

Hey, i love that sparkle thingy! Also, the names are highlighted, so regardless what kind of background you have, the names are readable now. Anyway, nothing spectacular, but i do dig the sparkles, good enough for me :D

We need a lawsuit or something. They're selling games that don't work out of the box. I'm glad I predicted Wii the winner for this gen because while I had hope Sony could catch up from second place they're making far too many errors to do it anytime soon.

Very small (tens of thousands) isn't small enough. There's a lot of my data there and no replacement 60's. Not to mention the fact when they break it they still charge you a repair fee.

The lawsuit being for selling products that don't work properly. They know it's not going to work out of the box but sell it anyway. The sad thing is this only fuels piracy. As a game collector I've never pirated a single console or handheld game. However now I don't feel as bad for those that do.

Until the updates offer something useful (meaning no more BS nobody wants on their console, we ALL have PC's for pics, movies, music, and internet) I don't see the point in wasting time and drive space on these. Hopefully someone will find a workaround soon before PS3 goes down as one of the worst consoles Sony has produced (PSP being the winner here since those games also don't work).

I know you're slow, but did it ever occur to you that these firmware updates may actually include fixes and tweaks ALONG with new features and such? There's a lot of things that go unannounced in the background of these firmwares. People don't want to hear that Sony freed up 2MB from the XMB...or that the system loads up 1.3 seconds faster now...

Update your system or shut the fuck up, simple :)

Would not a Lawsuit cover PC's as well. Not all PC games work out of the box.

Games have been sold broken out of the box for 30+ years now. You'd have to be stupid to think that it's a new issue, though now developers have the means to fix that for free and add new content, as well.

Most people would just update and carry on... there's always a small number of people find that annoying. I don't like to wait for updates, but hey, it's all cool, especially "easy patch" or new trophies patch :)

Like what? If my PS3 was broken I'd fix it. But it's not so what fixes are needed? Or do you mean 'fix' in the same way the update broke Uncharted? The new features are completely unwanted. Perhaps you should take your own advice you tool. I'll continue until the updates stop because this ISN'T how they should treat their supporters.

All the PC games I have did. Oh, except for HL2 when I had to install the Steam virus. That was so awful I fought with the software to complete the game then removed any trace of both from my PC. I'll never touch a Valve product again until they're shipped clean.

I've been playing since the Atari days, don't give me that lie. Not until the PSP had I ever gotten a game that didn't work right away. What's the point of selling or buying games that don't work?
