Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

First and foremost, please check out the
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here.

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.
i just converted 350 dollars of GR/Blockbuster credit to Amazon credit! some Blockbusters are selling Amazon, TGI Friday, Borders gift cards now.
That doesn't make any sense to me (why BB/GR would sell giftcards to those places), but that won't stop me from checking my local BB's for them. Amazon has awesome deals on video games, and offers, well, like anything else ever made.
likelihood is 0.

However, I'd steer clear of the Stow store if Mike is working, because he's a cocksucker. And I've already put down a bunch there.

Dave
I'll have to pay closer attention to the name tags next time I head to the Stow store.

I'm sure they get some sort of incentive for every card sold. Giant Eagle (A big grocery chain in this region) sells gift cards for almost everywhere, including bestbuy, starbucks, toys r us, etc.

I think the best part of aiming for Monster Madness tomorrow is that everyone will be too concerned with Wii's to notice the cheap games. Fingers crossed, dammit.

picked up my copies of monster madness at best buy, sears, and cc today. figured it'd be easier to pm tomorrow than battle the crowds. also grabbed one copy of call of juarez as after pm and price grabber rebate it would be free $15 credit.

Anyone have recent trade in values for Hour of Victory and The Darkness? Perhaps it's time to revisit those 2 games for their valuable flipperocity!

I went to CC and they had NONE of the $7.99 games for tomorrow's sale tonight. I didn't even see the placeholders for them. Either they don't have any, they pulled them all, or they are putting out a shipment just for the sale (and haven't had them in a while normally). In any case, it seems unlikely I'll bother with this at all unless I can get some online. I'm just getting really really tired of driving around for all of this...

I went to Circuit City today and bought a couple copies of Monster Madness. So, tomorrow when I head to circuit city, I ask them for a price match of 110% correct? And that extra 10% is on the DIFFERENCE between the normal price and the sale price correct?

No, they only PM 110% competitor prices, not their own.

Wow that would be nice you could flip games into ANYTHING. Hey babe remember all the whining about me stopping at this store and that store well I flipped a couple cheap games it into the vagomatic 9000 stunt cock vibrator for you now shut up!

Thanks for the heads up gonna call around today and see if any local stores have them. I'm sitting on $160 BB credit for just the 4 games I bought yesterday + my found Beowulf i'd love to turn that into Amazon credit since i've got about $150 at GS already. Some cheapass dvd sets or something would be nice. :D

"STUNT COCK!" That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw $hady's post above.

I guess nobody has mentioned it yet, but Monster Madness is $7.99 online at circuitcity.com now (and in stock). Order 3 copies for free shipping ($24+).

That really figures that Blockbuster would start carrying Amazon gift card after ive spent the last month trying to hunt down a Zune 80 at a place where I can use credit. I also just ordered a Zune 80 at Amazon using cash yesterday. Luckily the order hasnt shipped yet, so hopefully ill get lucky and find a store with the GC's

I'm headed out the door now, once again, good luck!
I'd like to know if Beowulf PS3 is still worth $36 in credit :)
Stores won't open till 10am EST so it will be at least another hour and a half till its even possible to check.

When you get Blockbuster Credit through trades on a Blockbuster Value Card, is that tied to your Blockbuster account or can you, say, give it to someone else as a gift for example?

I ordered a copy of Monster Madness from BB and Sears yesterday for in-store pickup, each only had one left. I'm waiting for the driving conditions to improve before going out; I might just have to do this tomorrow, especially since I should be studying with finals first thing in the morning.

Oppourtunity cost, folks. No deal is worth dying (or getting into an accident) over.

Whats the deal with Blockbuster...do they have to have a GameRush in order to take trade ins or what? Seems the only "preowned" games my BB sells is the ex-rentals.

Seriously, people, would it kill you to read the freakin' thread? We need a FAQ or something in the OP, seriously.

went to bestbuy with my 3 copies of monster madness and they only allowed one price match since CC only had one copy left.... damn bestbuy... Went to sears and grabbed 2 copies with 110% pm.

I'll be at a couple of Blockbusters today, so I'll check in on the Amazon situation, but if this isn't a nationwide thing, perhaps it would be a good idea to set up a list of stores that do carry them.

You mean the 74 pages? Yeah. but you did waste your time quoting two posts instead of being helpful

A FAQ at the beginning of the thread though? Yeah , that would make a lot of sense.

I haven't tried it, but I think you can turn value cards into gift cards. People used to do that when they had a "Buy X gift cards, get an extra $5 gift card" promo.

Crap! Have to price adjustment mine tonight on way to work.
Will see how it goes.
Hopefully can still get a few at Sears.

Picked up 1 Wii and 6 copies of MM at CC, drove to another one and got 8 more, then PMed 3 copies I already picked up from BB to $4.79. I'm on the way to another BB to PM another 6 copies I already have.

That's 23 copies of MM for me.

I tried to trade a copy of Beowulf to blockbuster and they told me the game couldn't be traded as there was some sort of system error. Probably related to the $19.99 price drop.

i want to thank you all for your positive feedback for flipping.

i went to circuit city bright and early today and i saw they had 6 copies of monster madness. i grabbed all 6 and took it to the counter and the lady stated they couldn't sell me that many, which i had a feeling they would say that so i only bought 3, then i went over to bestbuy and price matched the 2 they had their. went to my first gamerush and traded in 2 copies in which the lady asked why i had two, i said they were gifts and she was like wow people must think you like this game and then she did the transaction, then i drove to the next gamerush where there were no questions but she did state that i had 104 dollar store credit in their system and asked if i wanted to combined that onto the card, i said sure due to this being a system error from the previous time i traded in lol. so all in all 4 copys of monster madness got me 114.42 in game rush credit + an 104 dollar store credit. for my first time flipping i'd say not bad! thanks guys

Just out of curiosity, and I'm sure someone has already asked this: what exactly are you doing with all of this credit? And have you singlehandedly put a store out of business doing this yet?

I'm using my credit to buy new movies and new games, X360 1600 point cards, conrollers and other stuff for the cheap.

I must've had at least $1000 in credit doing this shit in the last 3 months with out of pocket cost of $300. Long live BB!

Too bad there's no gamerush close to me in Jacksonville FL :(

Successfully pricematched Monster Madness x4 at Sears for $3.90 (110% guarantee FTW!), and bought one at $7.99 at Circuit City. Also PM'd Red Steel x2 at Best Buy since CC was out of stock.

Also picked up a 48-pack of AA batteries for my Wiimote at CC on clearance for $7.99. Awesome day so far.

Headed out a little bit ago and got my BB/CC purchases from yesterday PMed to match todays ad, super painless. Plus picked up 2 CoJ (still 4 left at CC) Decided to hit Sears since the mall looked surprisingly dead for 11:30. Finally found someone working and had then get me 2 copies of MM then pulled out the ad as they rang it up and he had to get a manager. Manager came up REAKING of body odor, dear God take a shower! He refused saying he already called and CC has none in stock and I was the 3rd person he'd denied a PM to.... Left and went to WalMart determined to get copy #5 so I grabbed a cart threw in 2 huge bags of Iams dog food and several various other items on my way to electronics. Got the lady to get me a game from the case and asked to pay for just the game now as I had more shopping to do. She looked at the add and called a manager. Manager was resistant since the price was so different I gave her the come on I just want to finish up all my Christmas shopping at Walmart dont make me go to another store and she caved. I payed my $8.50 then left the cart in an aisle and proceded to flip my stash at GR/BB stores on my way home. Still plenty left at Florence WM.:D

Grand total for yesterday and today:
5 MM & 2 CoJ = 55.90 = $182.85 GR credit

PLUS $38.16 for that Beowulf I found in my glovebox. I looked at the used games after I traded it in and sure enough they had the same used copy on the shelf for sale.....$14.99. :D

You're a freakin' terrorist.

Whoo what a fun day.

Went to 2 different Sears and at each store I got 2 copies of MM for $3.90 each and 1 Red Steel for $5.79. I went to a 3rd store (in a hoity-toity preppy mall) and they said that they couldnt price match because its not in stock at a certain Circuit City location. I asked them to try a location 7 miles away and they said they couldnt because it wasnt 'local' enough. After that I went to said 7 miles away Circuit City and picked up 6 copies of MM, 1 RS & 1 CoJ. Went accross the street to Best Buy and picked up another 2 MM's for $4ish.

I went to 6 different Blockbusters and turned $120 cash into around $450 credit. Unfortunately no Amazon cards to be found, but the Gamerush manager was well informed and told me they are going to start selling Ipods, Cell Phones, gift cards, TV's and even computers! According to him the CEO is completely revamping Blockbuster so that its as much a retail store as a rental one. Quite a difference from the company that a few years ago was on the brink of chapter 11.
PLUS $38.16 for that Beowulf I found in my glovebox. I looked at the used games after I traded it in and sure enough they had the same used copy on the shelf for sale.....$14.99. :D
That technically means you can buy them up for $14.99 at one store then trade them at another (or wait for a shift change) for an ez $20~ profit.
You're a freakin' terrorist.
LOL yup it's harder to say no to someone with a couple hundred dollars worth of shiny crap in their cart. ;)

And yes yes on Beowulf flipping buy with GR credit and trade for more than double GR credit. LOL I'm not touching um i've traded in way to many already.
I tried to trade a copy of Beowulf to blockbuster and they told me the game couldn't be traded as there was some sort of system error. Probably related to the $19.99 price drop.
Anyone else try trading in Beowulf today at GR?

Ha HA! We figured out my wife still had an old account in her maiden name with her parents address and just had it updated to trading account.

Ended up having her dump 2x MM, 1x Beo 360 and 1x Beo PS3 for $128. She messed up and had it left on her account, but she's gonna go up tomorrow and buy a gift card with it.

I'm heading up on my way to work tonight to dump 2x MM and 1x Beo PS3 for another $93.

Not too shabby for using all store credit for these original purchases.

I'm just shocked the CC had 4 MM just sitting there on the shelf. I guess Wii Madness drew attention away from them.
