Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

First and foremost, please check out the
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here.

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.
I thought GameRush was a realistic attempt at getting in the gaming retail business but I see its a half-*^* effort i(IMO). At the very least being able to order new releases and selling them at MSRP should be a must in the game business.
Well, I think it started off that way but with Blockbuster's troubles in general, the GR concept has been neglected. They've kept most of the stores open but don't seem to be putting any effort into them any more.

BB just do not know how to operate as a retail store, they are a rental store that occasionally has stuff to sell, it's just plain dumb that so many years later they still cannot order items from their own wherehouse, or easily transfer from store to store. But you know what, thats just fine, if they don't get my game, I just cancel and get something else, they are just a cog in my pipeline, and I never put myself in a position that a game must be in my possession day one. Halo 3 is the only game that comes to mind that I just had to own Day 1, and I still haven't finished it, or even really started it. I'm busy playing puzzle quest on my pc :)
Did Forza and Marvel hold their value? Sweet. I picked it up tonight. Soo glad I got a 60GB model.

What is better to get: value card or credit on your account?

Always get a gift card. You can use it at any BB, employees can't be tempted to dip into your wad and IF you get banned it's on your card rather than your account. ;)

I would tend to agree - though when I had the one (and only) GR near me I would keep all my trades on the account there. That way, if on a whim I wanted to stop in and buy or preorder something there was always funds to do so (since I don't carry my Value cards around in my wallet or car unless actively trading). Of course, cards can be lost or stolen too, while the credit on your account is safe at least in that respect (though not to unscrupulous BB employees ;)).

Now that I don't have a GR there is absolutely no point in keeping credit on any one BB store account so it ALL goes on my Value cards. Of course, YMMV on finding a clerk who knows how to reload them .

With the GS +30% deal going on, would it be possible to convert our GR/BB credit to GS credit? And if so, what would be the best possible way of doing it? This is to the GR sages out there... Thanks in advance!

well i havent found anything yet that you dont lose anything on but the least losses are halo 3 used ($45 into $42), mario galaxy new ($49 into $42), and final fantasy revenant wings new ($39 into $28). let me know if anybody finds anything else close or better. of course this may be ymmv. actual GR have new games where i dont think BB do.

you could always try the credit to cash route, like with wii's and guitar hero 3/rock band. But I still cant find someone that wants to buy my wii-guitar hero 3.

Is the PS3 worth getting now or waiting for another price drop, as was rumoured to be happening soon?

Eh, kind of a toss-up I'd say. I already have a 360, so PS3-exclusives are mainly all that interested me and there's only about 4-5 of those that I wanted to play right now. If you plan on ever playing PS2 games, now would be a good time to snag a 60 GB before they're gone. Otherwise, I'd say you could probably just wait for an eventual price drop (the currently-released good titles will be cheaper by then too).

EDIT: If you don't have a 360, I'd say now is as good a time as any to get a PS3.

Before anyone asks and then gets told to call because you are a lazy bitch Halo 3 trades for $28 base price as of tuesday.

They are also running a promotion where you get 20% extra if you trade towards Brawl, DMC4,GTA4. Just posting this since I traded in my old Halo 3 copy in using this the other day....
so say I buy Halo 3 from GR/BB and trade in in towards GTA4 @ GS I would get 50% extra...$42?
ymmv on combining the deals like that.

Nope. Deals don't stack. You can pick one or the other, plus the Edge card bonus.

Yeah, what he said.

However, if the Gamestop employee is hard-up for a pre-order, they may manually do it for you, but very YMMV on that.
I checked the wiki but its a dec. price, anyone have the current trade value of beowulf ps3? thanks
I would assume its still $8/$9 (360/PS3) but don't know for sure.

D'oh! The web site says $30 - those bait and switch bastards!

I was thinking of the $45 -> $42 thing being OK. The problem is you need 3 games for the EB deal so I'd have to toss 2 throwaway games in there and now it is only $45->$39.20. That isn't really worth it.

Why oh why doesn't Blockbuster run another used game promo? B2G1 free or 25% off or something - they used to do these kind of things almost continuously.

io, print out the website and give Halo 3 a shot. I understand they are pretty good about taking the values that are advertised (be it on the website or in store)

Did my first ever trade at BB last night (no GR). There were hardly any games there. I hope other locations have better selection, if they ever had a sale.

While it may be a good idea to keep them on a giftcard do take note that they do depreciate if you don't touch the credit on the giftcards for a long long time.

Also if you suspect that anyone is tampering in your account whether its with tampering with your instore credit if its done by an employee or someone thats not your account you always have the right to dispute it and if your lucky to get a printed copy of your record which is very YMMV.
Just cashed 10 giftcards with $9.98 on them. Gave the manager $.20 and he gave me $100.
how'd you get the gift cards with that total? hookup? i imagine i can't trade in a $35 game and ask for 3x $9.98 and the rest on another card.

I bought 10x cards at $12.15 (suspicious, but not explicit) and the next day at a different store bought 20 20-oz bottles of coke for $2.17 after tax on each (10 transactions, 2 bottles per transaction, 10 different giftcards). After the 10 transcations, I was left with the 10 cards @ $9.98 each. Went to another store and cashed them.

I like my way better: Use the gift cards to buy a Crimson & Black DS Lite for $137 after tax. Put it on ebay and watch it sell for $192.

I had no idea they were a hot item because no one was biting when I put it on Craigslist for $130.

You will be responsible for the final downfall of blockbuster. :)

OK. I've read the past few pages of this thread and usually check it every day, but am I missing something? WTF is this magical $9.98 thing that allows you to cash them in?
Its a california law, where you can cash out gift cards that are less than $10
Just did it again. 10 cards with $9.93 on them (originally $11, then I bought 20 bottles of Dasani). Got another $100.

I need the water since I'm on my way to Vegas right now (21 at midnight, bitches!) and need to be hydrated before the vodka hits me.
NBA 07 PS3 is $8.96 at CC and trades in for $23 at BB/GR. so that makes about $14 trade in profit which is good enough for me....
hmmm...might try this tomorrow...another busy day for me and trade-ins o_O

Traded in today:

360 Darkness - $32
360 Bionicles Heroes - $12
360 Meet The Robinsons - $15

Picked up 3 copies Monster Madness for $16.96 each at CC on the way home. Hope the price doesn't drop next week since I'll be out of town and wont be able to trade until Friday.

Are gamerush and gamecrazy pretty much the same thing?

I noticed that gamerush has a little bit better trade in value for 360 games but there isnt one near me

Is gamecrazy the 2nd best choice or EB ?

Im looking to trade in

Darkness
Two Worlds
Shadowrun
(Got em for 36 looking to make a profit)

Made some trades that I've been meaning to get around to doing:

360 Monster Madness 28.50
360 Call of Juarez 15
360 XBLA Unplugged 6
PS2 Jaws Unleashed 16

19.60 (PMed MM and CoJ sales at sears 100%) paid = 65.50 and 1 month of live = happy CAG

So CoJ and XBLAU have held and Jaws was 19, but dropped to 16 last week.

Someone asked if they sell the racing wheel. I asked and was told that no GRs sell the wheel or the 120GB HD for that matter. Forgot to ask about the HDDVD, but I doubt it. Of course, the same guy said that they could not transfer store credit onto a value card since I forgot my vc and was going to do store credit for now and transfer next time I trade there. I've done it a few times, so that punches holes in his credibility a little. I'm going to keep looking although I could use another controller since I need to use some of this pile of credit on something. Apparently, I may have to look for black and crimson DS Lites. Have been looking for a 60GB PS3 and Wiis. They were out of both, but had five Wiis last week.

Putting off trading in games and losing $3 value per Jaws (I have one more) and missing a Wii = sad CAG

They have the HDDVD Drive at one of my local GR's. It's new and I think it has been sitting there for about a year.

PS3 NBA 07 $23
360 Madden 06 $8

I need a recent price on Ice Age 2 if anybody has one...thinking they're not giving out $28 any more...also NBA Street Homecourt and DJ Icon for PS3.

I've actually seen a GR that stocked the 120GB Hard Drive as well, they just haven't restocked it in while.

I tried to return/rebuy my PS3 and they wouldn't let me do that or pricematch. Any suggestions? They say that it's impossible for them to return such and item completely:roll:.

On a good note though, my GR just got two Wii Zappers.....only one left now;).

Have you opened it yet? I had a horrible experience recently with a Blockbuster PS3 return and from what I've read online and heard from the District managers they have to accept returns if the item is sealed and have to accept exchanges if the item is defective within 30 days with receipt.

This is taken from the BB website:

Question

What is the in-store purchase return policy?

Answer

BLOCKBUSTER® will refund your purchase of any new merchandise (except food items) appearing in its unopened original packaging anytime, provided you have the original receipt.
It's opened unfortunately. The world isn't going to end if I can't get back my credit (as it is, the PS3 was almost free after flipping some stuff), but I'd like to pick up Motorstorm and a BD remote.

Confirmed....I have seen the HD-DVD at a few GAmeRushes (and they will probably stay there now).

Now, that I know that NBA 07 trades for $23 I will be trading in the copy I bought last weekend. Sad thing is that this was the only copy they had at my local CC.

How much does Bullet Witch trade for? (Bought this for my girlfriend to play and within five minutes knew she would never play again so I'm hoping I don't lose too much on this one)
