The one and only CAG Super Smash Brothers Brawl Tournament! Beef vs. JoeB, FINALS!!!!

Okay, rounds 2 and 3 (Dedede vs. the little Dreamlanders) are up! Round Two was so close it made my eyes bleed.

I'll let Beef post the last two when they become available - they're just too painful for me to watch (or are they? :whistle2:k)...

fantastic matches, can't believe the recoil from the aura sphere koed you the first time though Beef =\
in any case, i definitely want to go against you now, i main with lucario and you're just about the only person i've seen who plays a decent one

A friend of mine came over and recorded all the matches onto his laptop.

I have to check and see if he uploaded the last two. I think he may have stopped after the 4th game due to the amount of free space on his comp, so I have to double check. I hope he didn't delete it, it was a damn fine match.

cool, I'd love to learn how to do that, I'm pretty technologically inclined, did he just do a video capture of the TV you were playing on?

BTW, how was the lag with you guys? it didn't seem to effect things too much. I haven't played on-line since my match with Beef, I'm hoping nintendo sorts out the lag issues.

I'd also love to play a "rematch" if only for bragging rights with beef, and would love to take a crack at Joe. Both of your are Excellent players, I can see why your in the finals

The lag was negligible, in terms of frame rate. Online, there's always a delay input, but we're talking a fraction of a second when compared to offline. I think Beef and I would agree that our performances really weren't affected by the lag.

And I didn't really notice this until now, but we played four-stock. I'm observant.
4 stock, time for rematches in 3 stock as per tournament guidelines. GG :)
Haha! Who would do such a thing?

Beef, do you have a main? I'm curious as to why you decided to switch to metaknight after winning with kirby. Either way, amazing matches, and please get the rest out ASAP!

From my match with Beef, I'd have to say Kirby is his main (and if its not, it damn well should be haha)

his lucario is the best I've seen, but his Kirby takes him to a new level

Has anyone else been forced to use different characters on-line vs offline? (I have always loved Fox in every smash bros, but playing with him on-line, I find it damn near impossible unless there is no lag. I just can't execute his moves accurately enough to be able to use him, so I'm forced to go with my 2nd character (Link) where accuracy doesn't need to be pin point.

Awesome matches, very entertaining.

But damn you got owned in Round 4 Joe, that's why you stick with your main when you are playing a tournament game.
Geez, 4 stock AND 5 rounds? This doesn't even count.
Why not? They beat everyone else on their way up to the top in 3 stock / 3 rounds, I see no reason why it's unfair that the last two contenders have longer matches, since more is at stake.

I've been to 4 tournaments, and it has always been 3 stock with a 6 or 7 minute timer on top. Only in one of them did they do 3 out of 5 rounds for finals.
Geez, 4 stock AND 5 rounds? This doesn't even count.
Are you being serious?

No one can ever tell when you're trying to be serious.

I just noticed it was 4 stocks....whoops.

As for who I main, I main Lucario, and the Dreamlanders, But my best is Kirby, hands-down.

Oh, and for those who didn't notice the link at the end of the round 2 and 3 videos, here is Round 4! This is (apparently) the last video, as Round 5 was not recorded. (Beef, correct me if I'm wrong)

As for yukine's comment about using Zelda, well, yeah. I don't use her as often, but I knew that if Beef brought out MetaKnight again (which I thought he was going to), Dedede wouldn't be able to take him without a few critical errors on his part. In a Dedede ditto, I have confidence I would have competed better. BUT, that's the name of the game! I didn't predict correctly, and was punished accordingly.

Finals Summary
Round 1 @ Battlefield: King Dedede (JoeB1233) d. Lucario (Mr. Beef)
Round 2 @ Battlefield: Kirby (Mr. Beef) d. King Dedede (JoeB1233)
Round 3 @ Battlefield: Meta Knight (Mr. Beef) d. King Dedede (JoeB1233)
Round 4 @ Final Destination: King Dedede (Mr. Beef) d. Zelda (JoeB1233)
Round 5 @ I Forget: Lucario (Mr. Beef) d. King Dedede (JoeB1233)

Winner: Mr. Beef! :)

TOURNAMENT RESULTS SPOILER
So, with those four wins (three on film), Beef wins the tourney! Congratulations to him! He is a very talented player, and few on CAG rival him. Congrats on your current victory, and good luck defending your title in the next tournament, Beef!

EDIT: In response to crystalklear64
Of course I'm serious. They should redo all their battles and upload new movies. Then let us know who won next month.
If you insist upon this, then I would forfeit, and allow Beef the win by default. I don't want to dredge down the tournament by forcing a redo when I've clearly been bested. The results wouldn't change.

But, really, thank you for your concern about the tournament's integrity. If I host the next one, I'll be sure to be much more specific in my instructions. :)

I'm only assuming because it still hasn't been uploaded. I'll keep an eye out for it in the upcoming days, and post it if it arrives.

EDIT: Wait, is the Nikusan account your account?

EDIT2: I'm watching your Melee match against Sheik/Zelda (who transforms, honestly?). You were quite good in Melee as well!

Yeah, nikusan is my YouTube account. And yes, I was good in Melee. I say "was" because I tried playing it recently, and I didn't fare so well.

I AM NOTICING A SEVERE LACK OF TROPHIES. IT HAS BEEN OVER A DAY NOW.

/not satisfied until it is rectified (ho ho ho!)

*sigh*

Wario's butt, come hither...

EDIT: I wouldn't mind throwing my name in for the coordinator of the next event. Anybody else interested?

It would be nice if the next one was after school/college/I'm trying to graduate, sessions are over for the summer so more people could get in.

Tag team tournament would be interesting too.

I'd be interested in a Team Tourney as well.

1v1's like this one works too.

Lastly, JoeB1233 as coordinator would be a good choice.

I dunno. There are certain people I play who are laggier than others, but when it's a 4 FFA, the lag is significantly reduced.

I think a Smash League would be cool, but there's always the problem of people not being able to keep up with a schedule. Plus, I'm guessing a tournament sounds more appealing to most players.

By the way, congrats Beef. Great matches between you and Joe.

I think there's definitely enough interest for another tourney, the only question remaining is other than JoeB, are there any other volunteers for coordinators and whether we want a team or single tourney.

lol. It's funny how quickly we've moved on. Oh man. One final congratulations to
Beef
for winning the first CAG tournament (I'm fond of spoiler tags).

This is tough stuff. Perhaps we could consolidate a singles and a doubles tourney into one event (think: tennis tournaments). Host it all under one thread - one big Smash extravaganza. It could be hectic, it could be great. What do you think?

Congrats to Beef for winning his own tournament! Seriously, good job, you definitely deserved the win.

A team tournament would be interesting, but there are a few things to consider first:

First, everyone needs to have a teammate chosen before the tournament starts. If not, a lot of people won't actually be able to participate, and that would suck for everyone.

Secondly, the matches would require a bit of communication between teammates. You need to be on the same color team as your partner, (I think) everyone needs team attack on or off depending on the rules, and if partners want to change characters during a set, they'll need to communicate on AIM or something.

Third, all four players would need to agree on a time, and that could potentially slow down the progress of the tournament.

I don't know, it seems like it could be a hassle, but if Joe's willing to run it, I'm willing to join up.

As for choosing teammates, the ones that don't have a teammate can get paired up randomly when the tourney starts.

The team attack rule can be chosen before the tourney starts.

I agree on the time issue though.

Zitanix, thanks for bringing all of these concerns up - you've demonstrated a lot of thought! :applause: I'll try to address each problem you've listed.

First, everyone needs to have a teammate chosen before the tournament starts. If not, a lot of people won't actually be able to participate, and that would suck for everyone.
This is actually the least of my concerns. My reasoning is that we all are pretty well familiarized with each other - I doubt anyone would have too much trouble just PMing someone and forming a team. Then again, I'd be sad if someone had to endure 'picked-last-itis.' I'm just hoping that people will be nice about this process, and not be like: "No, you can't be on my team because u r teh sux."

Secondly, the matches would require a bit of communication between teammates. You need to be on the same color team as your partner, (I think) everyone needs team attack on or off depending on the rules, and if partners want to change characters during a set, they'll need to communicate on AIM or something.
The color issue would be easy enough for me to assign. Say, if you're on the top of the bracket, be red. On the bottom, be blue. Also, the rules could be assigned. Communication is somewhat of a problem, but I think with all of the chat clients and skype running around, it wouldn't be too bad.

Third, all four players would need to agree on a time, and that could potentially slow down the progress of the tournament.
I hadn't thought of this. However, given that the team tourney will likely have roughly half of the entrants (teams versus individuals), it would obviously get done faster. So, maybe give the time of two rounds of individual play for every round of team play (something like that?).

My biggest concern is still lag. I know there are certain people around here with blazing internet speeds. I'm not so fortunate, so every time I host a FFA, it lags. It eventually gets better, but it still lags. Shall we all just agree to saddle up and endure any lag?

Hmm, I still wonder whether it is wise or not to conduct two tourneys at the same time. The scheduling will obviously conflict.
I want myself as a teammate.

That's right. I'll take you doublefuckers on.
Two receivers, one Wavebird?
Two receivers, one Wavebird?
That's right.

I'm goin' Thunderdome on all you bitches.

There were enough issues coordinating 2 people to play a match, much less 4 at the same time. Unless all matches are played on weekends I really have a hard time seeing it actually happening. But maybe that's just the devil's advocate in me.

If teams are a go on the next tourney, maybe we should try an exhibition round to see if it's possible to coordinate that many people, and if lag will play a large factor?
