JUST got done with portal didnt use any help and beat it at around 2 hours or so 1st time
i am as well, and i REFUSE to look at youtube!
typing this made me sad, so i went and finished portal just now.

ending was awesome

Beat on my roommates xbox within a relatively short amount of time... and I am not beating it on my xbox which is a whole 4 feet away from his due to our Halo 3 set up. He actually got a kick out of just watching and throwing out advice. Great game to laugh through :)
Have you read the IGN review for this game? It's terrible. They say it's better in concept than execution... How could it have been executed better?
I dunno...the only way it could be better is if it made your system generate freshly cooked bacon.

The ONLY problem with this game in my eyes: It's to short.

Of course, everyone says that.

Now I want to see portal done in different enviroments like an office building or an aztec tomb.

The possibilities are endless, eh? I hope Valve is taking notice of how many people think this game is one of the most unique things to come along in quite some time...

The bacon's a lie.

I cracked on level 18 after not being able to figure it out for an hour (same place as other people here) and looked on youtube lol.

amazing game though, hopefully we'll see sequels with new gadgets and twists. now please assume the party escort submission position.

Anyone complete the 6th advance level?
I'm stuck at a point where I've flung myself across a water chasm and I have a high ledge that I need to get to the top of but the only wall that I can put the portal on faces away from where I'm trying to get. (wow, it's hard to describe the layout of this game)
Is this the second water chasm? Go to the left edge and look up and to the right. You should see a spot in the ceiling to put a portal. What you have to do is angle your fall so that you land on the platform. It's easier said than done.

This game ending was awesome. I really want the end of game music on disc to play in the car. Great game. It was tough as nails at the end. But a lot of fun.

I just finished it, I had to pry myself away from TF2 but I finally beat it. Unfortunately I didn't find the puzzle ever too difficult so I am hoping for a real challenge in the bonus maps. The last boss fight was so easy, but the music at the end was so freaking awesome. This is the first game in a long time where I actually cared about the characer's. I'm looking forward to Portal 2 and how they're going to branch this story to tie into Black Mesa and to Gordan Freeman

I'm STILL alive duh duh dah dah...such a great song.

Awesome game. I sat down for the first time in ages and played for a good 2+ hours to finish it. Glad I was able to at least see the ending, 'cause now my 360 is dead. E74. Ugh.

I'll just throw my 2 in here to say that the game is amazing. I normally hate puzzle games, but this just drew me in. I feel like I've been through the wash with this one, In a total of three hours I go from internet meme version hilarity to creeping the shit to one of the best ending sequences in video games (...although Mega Man X has not been surpassed..)

I had a friend come over today and I showed this to him. He sat down, gave it a try.. and played for three hours until he beat it.

I think my favorite saying was when the machine was like "here, i'll put you on. lablblablablablablba. that was you. because you're dumb" or something similar to that.

I like the gameplay mechenics and presentation, but the actyual game play deisgn (the puzzles) were rather bland. Though I still got carried away with it for me to almost miss my online homework deadline.

I was under the impression that the Appeture (sp?) Science Center was a direct competator to Black Mesa because in the song (or in the boss fight) there's a mention that you can go work at Black Mesa.

Also, wasn't the beginning of the original Half-Life centered around a portal to Dimension X (or wherever the aliens came from), so it's possible both sites were working on Portal technologies.

There's also a slideshow in game with slides about competing with Black Mesa for government contracts. You can see it through windows into conference rooms sometimes.

Aperture will tie in with Episode 3. It will take place on the Borealis, a lost Aperture research ship.

Got this yesterday with the Orange Box and beat it in under 2 hours in one sitting. Pretty neat game, made me a little lightheaded at the end, but the game was way too damn simple for me and the whole "escape" theme at the end was a little boring.

anybody know what the deal is with her knees?

------------------

during the escape you can pick up one of the clips boards and it shows those metal things behind her legs is some kind of knee implant. what is that about?

It's funny you mention that, because the first personality sphere that you knock off asks "what happened to your legs". I wonder if that's why you don't take damage on the large falls.

On a funnier note, did anyone notice that the second sphere you knock of is reciting a recipe for cake?

It's not her knees. They're called heel springs. They're based on real life prosthetics and basically are what allow her to fall such huge distances without being hurt.

Guys i just finished this thing (finally, ive had it for a week but TF2 is just too good) and i have to say i have never laughed so hard at an ending of a game before. It was so well executed. The menu change was great too, and it made me want that song really bad as a ringtone.

This is mentioned in the first or second bubble in the commentary track. Recommended for anyone interested in how they designed and structured the game.

beat the game tonight in one sitting. it was pretty awesome, but i never really got stuck with any of the levels.

Im Making a note here HUGE SUCCSESS!!

This game was so freaking awesome

I hope valve makes more cake, its so delicious and moist.

my favorite part is
when Glados tells you to prepare to face her and she counts down and the piece falls off. when she goes "seriously, what is that" had me giggling.

Loved it.

Anyone else bother to sit and listen to the WHOLE cake recipe ?

Cause at first I thought it would be fun to make it... but then it got weird. :)

And HOLY CRAP!!! Trying to get Gold on those tests is insane.

:applause:

quick question, how do you earn medals in it? I've beat the game and all the advanced levels but I dont know where you earn medals. Thanks

having trouble with one of the acheivements, anyone know how to knock the camreas off the walls that you can't put portals on? i tried falling on it, break it with a cube, no luck...any help will do, thanks.

also great game, kinda gave me a headache, not because the puzzles but motion sickness falling through the portals i guess, beat it twice already, 1st time about 3 hours, second time 1 1/2 hrs, havent tried advanced yet but will before i have to return the game.

Could there be a more addictive Puzzle game. I got my copy today and played Portal for 4 hours straight. Now that I've beat it I have to figure out how to get the rest of the achievements. Valve definitely deserves to be Developer of the year. As it states on the box from IGN.com, "The best deal in videogame history." By far the one game every gamer needs this holiday. I paid $45 for mine from a fellow CAG, but this is well worth the $59.99 MSRP and I can't say that for any game. I can't wait to see these concepts implemented into multi-player and action/sandbox games. Also I miss hearing that female/robot voice from the commercials now.:p

You dont have to get those cameras.

man those least time ones are a bitch. worse than the least steps or portal ones. managed to get gold for testchamber 13 in all three, but im dreading the next 5.

started playing through the maps on advance and i'm have lots of fun with them. Its frustrating when you shooting a portal a little bit to the left or right of where u wanted it, but i really like the challenge the advance setting brings.

I lost all my progress! I saved in the middle of finishing my last advance map and now the game acts like I never even finished my first playthrough, I can't access any of the advance or medal goals anymore. I have to play the whole game over again to get back to where I started?

I hope Valve is patching the save system! :(

Finished Portal last night. What a great game. I had some trouble with the final level, just because I was focused on escaping. The cake is a lie!

OK, I'm going to sound dumb here, but how do you play the bonus maps? I started a game on the level that has the first bonus and played all the way to map 18 and nothing is different. Do I need to choose it from the startup menu or is there a different door I need to seek out?

It should start out with "STANDARD" over the picture with arrows up and down.

Is it me, or are getting some of the challenges damn new impossible. I can get the # of portal ones, and the time one just takes alot of practice, but the freak steps on seems impossible on Bronze... The Silver's seem IMPOSSIBLE.
