The Orange Box: Team Fortress 2 - Gen. Discussion
Anyone up for a game tonight? I'm on now and will be for a bit. If I'm playing something else, just send an invite.
I'll be on in about 15 minutes ... anybody let me know if they want to play.

Good game last night with Zaius, yukine, Deserteagle and a few others maybe? I don't even know who was hosting, but it was solid with no lag. I assume they just ended the game after the final round.

A question for you engineers: Does it matter at all which way your turret faces? I mean, it automatically senses targets, so it shouldn't matter, right? I'm rarely an engineer, so I've only played a couple times and I just toss up turrets as quickly as I can. But, I've had two people comment that they were facing the wrong way. And yet, they still killed people who walked by, heh.

the turrets only scan 90 degrees to the left and right (for those of you keeping score at home, that's 180 degrees, or half a circle). It won't search behind itself. If they walk within that 180 degrees, it can fully rotate 360 degrees to continue shooting at them. So yes, it does matter which way it's facing.

Yes, it does matter. Before placing the sentry down, you'll see white lines that indicate its range of fire. I usually try to make sure it is covering both doors of entry (on 2 Fort), also depending on which team you're on... lets say Blu, it will show a blue field thats indicating how far out the sentry gun will cover. And if you're Red, that field will be red. You only see it before placing the gun down however.

I just rented this and I'm very impressed so far. The class system has this great tribes 2 mod scene feel to it, especially with the medics healgun and the engineers turrets. I hope I'm not one of the only people that actually enjoys being a medic. Using ubercharge at the right time makes for some nice attack/defend strategy.

Hopefully once they fix the lag it won't be so twitchy.

I finally spent some time playing this online yesterday, it was super fun. Played mainly as an engineer as we were playing attack/defend. Feel Free to add me to the List.

yeah, I'd like to see a CAG night. if enough people are interested I can host this week any day. If 6:00 pm PST works I can do it then or whenever.

anyone else interested in a scheduled CAG meet this week?

im having a lot more fun with this than i am with halo 3. i find that class based team shooters to have a lot more depth and longevity than those with out it.

add my gamertag if we're doing CAG nights.

My schedule varies greately from week to week, but I'd be really happy to play in a CAG night. Just keep me updated on when you decide and I'll do my best to show up

I was on this last night for a few hours and it looks like the Live activity has been dropping? Has everyone gone back to Halo3? I hope that patch hits soon because I think a lot of people are being turned off by the lag whenever you get a game over 4 on 4.

Honestly, I've only been seeing people play Portal/Half-Life 2, I can't blame them... but I'm always playing TF2.

I don't see much Halo 3 players either, the first few weeks everyone on my list was playing it but it soon subsided.

WTF is going on with the control point maps? The fucking engineers from the other team get out there and set up/fully upgrade their shit before the gate even opens for the team on offense. Totally unfair.:bomb:

I thought that the point of the countdown was for both teams to have an equal chance to get out to the control points and attack/defend?

that's what spies are for. get a spy to disable the sentry while your team attacks. or use a demoman to blow them up.

Thanks. Didn't the PC version have both teams starting at the same time when the gates dropped? It just seems like the defending team has an advantage on certain maps.

i beleive they have the advantage.

Ok, So I'm going to try and see if we can get enough CAGS together in the same game.

I'll host tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9:00 pm EST/6:00 pm PST. if you want to play just be online with the Orange Box before 6:00 and I'll invite you. If you want to play and I'm not in your friends list please send me an invite.

So we'll see how this goes and how many people show up. I'll keep a lookout for new players showing up and invite them as well. If we have enough people interested I'll run it for a couple of hours. I'll probably start off with a quick 2Fort and then run through the control point maps.

I think the lag updater is dropping today so I'd like to try at least a 12 person fight.

The defending team does have an advantage on those maps. Usually the attacking team has a huge advantage.

How are you guys able to play this game? I haven't even had a chance it get much actual play time with it because the lag in this game is horrific. Horrific as in it updates a frame every 5 or so seconds....

the lag is hit or miss. the game will either run smoothly for me, or lag really bad. in that case i just leave and find a new match and there are smooth matches out there.

I found that ensuring your NAT is open cuts down alot on laggy games. Basically what appears to happen is one person either laggy, or has a strict NAT and it lags the entire room, so making sure your end is good will make it smoother overall.

Sounds good, I'll be there.

How was the lag when I was hosting the matches?

Actually NAT, in the world of xbox live, has nothing to do with lag. It has to do with being able to see/play with other players. Open nat connects to everyone, moderate connects to moderate and open, and closed connects with closed and open.

A perfect visual example of NAT was lost planet when it launched. You would literally be playing with invisible players that only some people could see or harm, and vice versa.

You can add me to the list, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get a giant battle going and get that 7 Friends playing acheivment... None of my current friends have Orange box... TF2 is great, a good alternative to playing H3 online. I will be playing tonight if the 9pm match is still going on.

Xbox Gamer Tag: REL1203

So I don't think Microsoft has release the update yet for the lag issue. I've never hosted before but hopefully it'll be lag free.

Add me as well, last TF2 achievement I need is the 7 friends one.

Does anyone play later in the night (say 10pm PST - 1am PST)? This is usually the only time I have to play and almost everyone is already offline. I am looking to get into TF2 as a break from my Halo3 addiction.

Feel free to send me a FR.

Maybe on the weekends, but it's way past my bedtime during the week.

Thanks for the Host Doc_Z, that was fun... I finally got to learn the value of being a Medic (Working on the Medic Achievment). Anytime you want to organize another one, i would be down. Lets try to set it up a couple days in advance and try to fill it up with CAG's...

The lag patch needs to release ASAP. It's the main reason I haven't played TF2 much at the moment.

Thanks to Scorch for setting a room. Sorry I couldn't stay longer, I had some work to do.

we had some good games tonight, no lag with 12 was cool. I think I had 8 people on my list but not at the same time. we'll try again, is tuesday good or would monday be better? Hey Scortch, what time did you run your game?

Whatever works, it'd be nice if we can get a regular schedule going (like every Tuesday at so and so time) or whichever you decide. I think most of us play games in the late afternoon/night... at least I do.
