What a pussy. Hopefully he'll be influenced by the game to try out the "Suicide Transformation" in real life.

In other news, please, do not buy another copy of this game to keep sealed. That's silly. If you're really interested in investing in your future or something like that, stick the $50 bucks in a mutual fund somewhere. Do that with every game that you think might become "rare" and I'll bet you you'll come out ahead vs. ebaying a bunch of sealed games 5 years down the road.

Actually I'd say a rare sealed video game (probably worth assuming Persona 3 will be at this point due to Limited Edition + Atlus + Shin Megami Tensei + end of PS2 lifecycle) is probably a better return than a mutual fund over 1-5 years. And in Persona 3's case, probably a safer bet.

Just got the game, due to hearing a redicilous amount of hype + reading great reviews for the game. This is so far the best packaged game so far I have seen for a console. My friend is a graphic's designer, and it seems he cant put the damn art book down, lol.
I probably wont play this anytime soon, due to the great summer weather, work, etc. Heck, I still need to get started on odin sphere lol. I am deffinately looking forward to getting into this game once I eventually get started
I'm just waiting for the first kid to shot themselves in the head so the parents can blame it on P3. And the sad fact is if it does happen the game will become more sought after.
You'd have to be pretty fucking dumb to blame Persona 3. Not only in a "I'm a big shithead and am going to blame/sue someone else for something my kid did" way, but in a "Let's sue Atlas instead of someone with a little more money" way.

fuck, suing the company who made the gun would be smarter.
Can't wait to receive my copy from familyvideo. They need to hurry up and ship it!
I got Backordered, which sucks ass, but I decided to... work around that. Hopefully the game will come in before my thirty days to return to EB are up, else I'm going to have to buy another copy and return that one as my old one in order to extend my return period. And I don't even know if there will be any more copies left after thirty days...
manager at my local GS said they are getting very little of these if at all in stock, hell, he said i was really lucky to get it since i didnt reserve it :whistle2:x
i think i might get an extra copy too
i wasnt guna buy this game til it got cheaper but my friend scared me into getting it now since many atlus games become a rare find later on. plus all the hype and reviews... :fridge: i bit, hahaha

cant wait to get my copy in the mail!!!

If I am getting the game (possibly tomorrow), should I also buy the guide? Is the guide even worth it? Also, would I be able to double dip (10% off GS coupon and the buy the game and guide together get another 20% off)?

We're getting ahead of ourselves. It hasn't happened yet so there's no need for a rant just yet.
Does anyone know if bestbuy is carrying this?
Yes, we've discussed this a couple of times already.

Best Buy carries it, but the in-store inventory lists this as an August 21st release.

I put all 4 copies out at my store yesterday despite this, but if you turn up with nothing, check again on Tuesday.

I'm currently sitting at 6 1/2 hours in on 5/2. I just finished the first 16 floors of Tartarus.

It's not too often that a game like this comes around. It's just as fun to play the daytime stuff as it is to explore the dungeon (which reminds me a lot of .hack due to the random generation).

My biggest concern is going to be keeping up. I thought at first it wouldn't be too difficult to keep my S-Links straight, but then they have to start throwing choice at you: Kendo club or Dude-that-likes-his-teacher or study at the library?

The replayability of this game is incredible. It'll be a different game every time you play!:bouncy:

Stupid question: Does the art book come with a Limited edition or just the regular? Haven't seen it in any stores yet so I wasn't sure.

I got it yesterday and I love it, every single P3 copy comes with the OST and Artbook so the only thing you have to worry about is finding the game.

The artbook is much nicer then I expected.

It's never too early to rant!

I've played about 9 hours so far. It is awesome, but the major complaint I have is that the music makes me want to kill myself. The vocals really get on my nerves very quickly. At least the Tartarus music doesn't have shrill vocals involved, though it still isn't very good. I am contemplating putting the game on mute when I'm just walking around and there aren't any major events.

Agreed. I'm having a ton of fun just leveling up my S-Links. Next on my to-do-list is get that nerdy girl from the Student Concil in the sack.

It's intresting to see the knock off products & stores. Like "Book On" which is supposed to imitate "Book Off." In Japan it's the leading store to buy used Mangas and they also have a ton of used games cheap!!!. It's like heaven for a CAG in Japan . I think on opened up in New York also.

It's never too early to rant!

True, I forgot, this is the internet ;)

Book Off? I never saw one of those. Most of my JP games came from a video/game chain store called "Geo". I was lousy at finding any little obscure shops. The best I found was one that had some Neo CD games but I could never find it a second time.

Argh...I can't wait to get back from work today. I picked it up yesterday and only got to get as far as the first time the main character's Persona comes out before I had to get to bed for work today. Now I can't wait cause I think I'm finally almost through the beginning part and can start actually playing it. Good to know it's as good as it seems.

They should stack. The 20% off is a manual discount, not an automatic thing. The 10% off would be taken off the new price, so you wouldn't be getting a full 30%.

Yeah, that's my only complaint too. Horrible Japanese music, but I put in a good amount of hours so far. Really diggin' this game.

I love the music. Imported the OST, the remix album and the FES OST quite awhile before the game even came out here. There's a couple tracks I'm not fond of, but for the most part I enjoy it. A lot of it does sound different than Meguro's usual work, but I'm all for trying new things. Most composers get stuck in a rut (looking at you Sakuraba...) and all their music tends to blur together.

I'm sure this was covered somewhere but I guess I'll ask. I have Persona 2 and is it important to play the other Persona's before I start 3?

They're everywhere, I'm surprised you didn't see any. I remember Geo but their stufff seemed more expensive.

At first I liked the music, but it got very annoying after the 5 hour mark. What did you guys name your character. Since everything is so Japanese I gave him a Japanese name: "Kioshi Yagami." Wouldn't feel right by giving him an American name like Steve or Brandon.

Not at all. So far this game has made no connections to the other Personas besides Igor & the Velvet Room. However in the Artbook I noticed a character named Jin. There was a Jin in Persona 2 and it looks like the same guy.

For those who have played already:

Is the NPC interaction realistic? I like the idea of making friends with characters to get new magic or whatever, but I hate when a game won't follow some logical progression.

For example: Can I just repeatedly converse with someone and say the right things to befriend them, or do I have to find the Remulus 3449xbs jug from a canyon in the middle of nowhere before they'll talk?

No luck with calling bestbuy about this there's no one in the media area to look and only people I can talk to are customer service, but only help they can give me is looking up the name on their computer and same thing happens they say it comes out on the 21.

I'll just go to bestbuy and see if they have it if not i'll go back on the 21 if not familyvideo..

I agree, the music is great! It works really well for the style and time period of the game.

On the same note, it can get a bit repetitive and some of the vocals are a little shrill, so I completely understand others' complaints.

Meeting new people is handled by your stats like charm and academics. You increase those through various activities.

Picked up mine today (the game and guide). Paid $62.98 in total:
$44.99 for game with 10% off coupon and $17.99 for the guide with 10% off by buying the game and guide.

I thought it was 20% off the if you buy the game and guide, but I guess they changed it or I remembered wrong.

Got my copy in! YES! will play this after I...erh finish Nocturne haha.

I did the same Zero & got the 20% off...However, it only applied after the employee scanned my edge card.

Changed a couple months ago. Now it's 10% off, unless you have the edge card. Then it's 20% off.

You can also only meet some people(social links) by leveling up your current social links... in addition to increasing your charm/academics/courage...

That's bullfuck. Especially since guides have gone up $5+ in price over the past couple years. That's why I don't buy them anymore.

Go back and punchasize their faces Zero, my guide was 20% off.

Maybe I didn't see any "Book Offs" because I was in Okinawa vs. mainland Japan.

Possibly, they're all over Tokyo and hard to miss.

Thanks alot botticus, it shows that the store near me has it in stock, but I just went there around 3:30pm and the employee says it's not on the shelf so I told him the ship date is 8/14/07, but he said since the site says it's 21 they'll have to keep the game and not put it out till then if they get it.

I really wished he just check to see if it came and bring one to me not like this is like a halo game. >.<

Ah well i'll call them again maybe I could get someone who would check in the back for me..

That's what they pulled on me. I ended up getting the game from EB. I'd say that it's pretty lousy customer service, but the guy that I talked to showed me on his system where it still said the 21st. Maybe it takes time for the change to trickle through? Anyway, he's just doing his job.

Guy was apparently too busy restocking Madden to look anything up in the computer. I'll go again when I'm off tomorrow afternoon when they won't be so busy. And I'll try a Best Buy in Pittsburgh since I'm making a run there in the morning.

I went to BB today to check if the game was out on the shelves, and convinced a sales rep to pull the game up in their computer. (When I said I was looking for a game that was already being sold in some stores....he assumed I wanted Bioshock.) Not only did they not have a copy....they have none coming in on order for next week.

The link in botticus' thread lists the game as available at the very same store.

(Fortunately, I picked the game up at Gamestop with the 10% off coupon.)
Hey guys, I think I got the Best Buy inventory checker to work, so this link should let you put in your zipcode to search for Persona:

All of the stores near me have it. Going to try to PM the TRU Madden deal with it today or tomorrow.
Edit: Nope, link is good, you can add to cart, says it's in stock, it just won't let you do in store pickup.

In case anyone is looking to see more gameplay, here's a 30-minute vid from someone on GAF... mostly the school part, ends with a battle.
