The - PERSONA 3 / PERSONA 3 FES - Thread! (FES OUT NOW! $30!)
Hey guys,
I bought this game at BestBuy at regular price today, due to the fact that I can't find it anywhere. Is this game gonna be rare or is Atlus dragging their feet on supplies?
If the rumors of FES is true expect a price drop for Persona 3 (at least used copies)

FES would probably require you to have the original PS (if it's like Japan), so demand would go up. Maybe...

Well there are two versions in Japan. Given the low availability of P3 it would make sense that Atlus US release the version that dont need P3. Even if it does need P3, you only need it the first time you play.

I watched the first episode today, and it was kind of what I expected (young person gets into a stressful situation to suddenly have a Persona revealed to them) but not bad nonetheless.

I finally started this game a couple of days ago (got it for Xmas) and it's GREAT!

woot! Finally level 80!I think I may have to do the "guerilla" technique still to level up a bit.I actually have spent the most time on January than any other month probably because of Monad!

So are you guys pumped yet or what?

Hopefully I get FES in sooner than later ;)

Atlus’ Mysterious Countdown!

February 18th, 2008
Atlus has updated their main site with a countdown for what seems to be a new announcement! What could it be? Going by what the main image is it looks like something taken from the introduction of Persona 3! Our money is on an announcement for Persona 3 FES! Keep your fingers crossed!
If MM says so, it must be. I'm pumped!!!
Right, I'm sure it's coming.

I'll be more pumped when we get a release date.

Based solely on the main page timer, I wasn't convinced. Yes, it's from the opening of P3, but the design is pretty cool too. I can see why it would be used for just about any Atlus game, really.

There is an advertisement on rpgamer.com that sealed the deal for me.

Im thinking they will release the version that does not require you to have P3. If they didn't, it would pretty much limit sales of FES to the small amount of people who already have P3.

Releasing both on one disc would allow people who missed out on PS3 to get it all at once. I really think this is what they are going to do.

Yay!
Is the anime out in the US??
Nope, not officially.

Fansubs are out though. The show is still airing on Japanese TV.

I just finished episode 7 today. Getting better. I love the OST for the TV show...

Just started playing Persona 3, great game, really wondering when the release of FES is going to be, if it's not for a few months I'll go ahead and keep playing, but if it's coming out soon I'll likely just go ahead and wait.
In a few months you'll STILL be playing it. Trust me. What a long freaking game.
Indeed it is. If FES is coming out I'm kinda glad they waited a few months. Just to break up the gameplay.
In a few months you'll STILL be playing it. Trust me. What a long freaking game.
I hear this a lot but how many hours does it take to finish this game? Dragon Quest 8 was very long (it took me little over 90 hours) but only took less than 50 days to beat it. Not everyone plays ten different games at once you know.

I'm about to hit 200 hours and I still have 3 or 4 months left in-game.

I only play one game at a time, and I've been playing this since October.

So, forgive me if this has been answered before, but I have a question.

I started playing Persona 3 when it came out and haven't finished (not too far at all) due to the insane backlog of games that I have and the games I keep buying. Since FES is essentially a "Director's Cut", would I be missing out on anything if I just waited for FES to finish the game, or should I try to finish the game first?

Don't get me wrong, if I had all the time in the world, I'd try to finish Persona right now, but trying to balance my playtime with my personal life (6 mo old baby girl!) is not as easy as it would seem...
200? What have you been doing?
You sound like someone who knows how many hours someone needs to beat this game instead of others here who take scenic routes.

Well I took a scenic-esque route, and it took me 100 hours. I can't imagine taking twice the time. Grinding early is almost a waste of time, because
once you get to the top, you can level a lot easier in the extra dungeon. So it's not really worth the time to grind before then if you don't have to.

the game should really only take you 100 hours even with doing elizabeth's quests. there's also the trick where on the night before a boss fight you won't get tired so its not like you HAVE to fight every night...

FES isn't a "Director's Cut." It's a a new story that takes place after the events of P3. I hear it's about 30 hours more gameplay.

Any word on if it'll be a packed in with P3 or a stand alone?

I believe the question you just asked is what everyone, myself included, are wondering about at the moment.

Some have formed a conclusion by observing how FES was released in Japan, and believe that Atlus will release Fes here in a similar fashion. A version that requires file save, and a version that doesnt.

Others bring into play Atlus key characteristics, and since they tend to be (jerks) the type that dont reprint a certain game that has sold out, the theory is that they will release FES not caring how many people played the first part.

I missed out on P3, i want P3 with Fes. is that so much to ask?

FES is a bit of both, really. There is the new Episode Aegis, which I hear is roughly 30 more hours. There is also an expansion or director's cut of sorts for P3. You can date Aegis and take Koro-chan out for walks at night. There are also bonus costumes and a few other goodies.

On the subject of time to complete, I finished at 92 hours. I completed all of Elizabeth's requests (for the first time through, anyway). My entire team was at or above level 95. I had all the Persona. I finished all but 4 of the S-Links. I did not use a strategy guide.

Usually, my tactic was to go in to Tarturus the first night I was able after a full moon and clear it. Then I wouldn't go back until after the next full moon. The game was much easier than most SMT games and honestly, I wouldn't say that SMT games are hard so much as luck. The only thing that makes them difficult are the gratuitous use of instant death spells (Mudo and Hama).

I didn't know they expanded on P3 itself, I thought it was just a reason to tack on 30 more hours.

I'm the oppisite, I just want FES. If they reprint copies of P3 it'll bring down rarity and value of P3.

yea me too...if they released both, it be a slap to the face to me and others

and ppl, P3 can still be found in stores...so get off ur asses and go look for it

I bought my town out of P3 and sold them all here on CAG for cost + shipping. I've had 6 copies pass through my hands - the first I played through. I'd love to play FES, but seeing as how I'm out of copies of P3 I'd be out of luck should we get only the append disc.

I'm really hoping what they do is release a single disc game with no extras. That way collectors can be happy with the limited edition, but more people can enjoy P3.
well you 2 are in luck as Atlus said they wont reprint games due to complains from collectors.
Well, they said they wouldn't reprint games but I think they could still consider a print of Persona 3 without the extras.

Source? I have a hard time believing Atlus gives a fuck about collectors.
Source? I have a hard time believing Atlus gives a fuck about collectors.
I'd like to know as well. I've seen people state this before and the best I have ever gotten for a source was "someone from Atlus posted it on their forums a few years ago."

The problem is that Atlus's forums are notably unstable and rarely last longer than a year. As such, it's not possible to go back and confirm.

Honestly though, I have a hard time thinking that it's "for the collectors." Atlus knows very well that the idle threats of collectors to stop supporting them are bogus. My guess is that demand isn't really as high as it appears - it just comes from a vocal minority. It'd be interesting to see some numbers as to how many reprints they'd have to make and sell to justify it.

And exactly what stores would you suggest i go looking for it?
Major retailers would help

HAHA, busted

Who cares if they release the non-append version? Rei forbid they give people who couldn't find the game a chance to play it. I don't care if the value of my copy goes down. I bought it to play it, not to gouge someone on Ebay with it.

try Sears, KMart, GameCrazy Best Buy, CC, and MAYBE GameStop.
I don't care if the value of my copy goes down. I bought it to play it, not to gouge someone on Ebay with it.
i bought 2, one to play and one to collect. however, u also got to consider the ppl who got raped on Ebay just to play it. i fi were one of them i want to be able to resell it and at least get 80% of what i paid on ebay for.
Source? I have a hard time believing Atlus gives a fuck about collectors.
They really did say that they would no longer reprint games on their forums. Somebody mentioned it on these forums and I actually Googled it to see if it was true. I saw the post at their forums. Problem is, this was on their old forums and they don't exist anymore. So no proof exists...

And why do you have a hard time believing Atlus having some favor towards collectors? They're the ones who buy their games first and that way, Atlus knows they'll always have that demographic, no matter how niche of a game they release.

I don't think it's hard to find copies of P3. I see it at my local GS all the time.

Games go down in value quickly. Thanks to Atlus I think it's nice to have a couple games that actually gain in value over time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not buying them as investments for gouging later (and if I was who cares.) I'm not much of a collector but I like owning rare games, simple as that.

wait, so if its available there....why are they killing each other on ebay for it?

Edit:
IF there was someone who was able to find this game, or many copies, and buy them, is it looked down upon to sell them to Atlus fans?
and by that i mean, selling then to cover shipping and taxes, to people that are dying to get their hands on this....
If so, how could one cag get the word out, and help out the atlus fan community?

...Just rhetorical

It's probably because I spend a lot of time in the Velvet Room. I've gotten addicted to making new Persona. Gotta catch em all, indeed.

It's not so much that I don't believe they like collectors, it's that I don't believe they'd pass up on potentially thousands of sales for a small group of people. For example, Disgaea became very popular a few months after it came out, after word got around about it. It became hard to find because it had Atlus' traditional small print run. They reprinted it so a lot more people could actually play it, and Atlus could make money. If they had some stupid rule about never reprinting anything, then it would still be an ebay rarity that not many get to play to this day. Why would any company turn down business? It just doesn't make sense.
