The - PERSONA 3 / PERSONA 3 FES - Thread! (FES OUT NOW! $30!)
EDIT: I have GTA VI, Mario Kart Wii & The world Ends With You, but I still perfer to play FES over them all. I really do love this game.
The GTA series went downhill after IV, huh? ;)

I've had saved games disappear too on my PS3. They aren't actually gone, because I remember I did something and they reappeared. I can't remember what I did though.

What do you guys do when you make it to the barricade in Tartarus and have over a week before the next full moon? I feel like I'm wasting my time in the big T.

What I've been doing in this playthrough is basically just splitting up my team to go fight shadows on the floors leading up to the barricade, so I'm hella ready for whatever's coming up. After I'm satisfied with my level, though, I'll usually just devote my time to doing shit in town and studying... and I always get a good night's sleep before the full moon.

The same situation is occurring more frequent as play more and more; the file disappears then reappears again. I thought backwards compatibility was a great idea for ps3, but these memory reading errors are making me skeptic about that idea.
What do you guys do when you make it to the barricade in Tartarus and have over a week before the next full moon? I feel like I'm wasting my time in the big T.
The barricade won't go down until you beat the next full moon boss. These barricades act more like level caps on how much experience you can obtain. If you try getting more experience once your reach a certain level, the growth is really slow, even if you got experience cards.
The new S.link endings have given me a firm reason to plow through it again. Funny thing is though, I only completed a little over half the S.links my first time through. So playing the game again making sure I do the ones I missed is well, like playing a whole new game. Trust me, you'll love the Journey as if it was new (If you didn't complete most before).
Do you have to max out your Social link for certain character to view them? I want to know so I can get it all in one play through or one cycle. I kinda messed up perfect social link run. It too much work on hard mode. Those demon compendium are so expense. It seem like the easiest way to obtain money is either do quest or sell weapons on card shuffle. You have to constantly obtain monster then fuse it then obtain another two monster and fused the two different monsters for your desire result.
Nobi-Wan, get the FES while you can. If you don't play it, you can still sell it with at least break even. If you get it later, it might be hard to get and price might go up.
If you want it cheap, get it at buy.com with google checkout. It is $20. Shipping is a bit slow but if you are in for less money, that's the way to go.
Keep the original just as a collection.
Thanks for the tip. I just bought it for $22 shipped. I just got GTA so I could care less about how long it takes to get to me. Does the game come in the same cool cardboard case that the last one came in? If it includes the artbook like the last one then I'll probably sell the original one. We'll see, though. I used a gift card to get the first P3 anyway.

I think this has been brought up before but has anyone noticed any connections to the previous Persona games? I've only noticed one and it's when Mitsuru is talking about the "Nanjo" group which is Nate's (from P1 & P2) family company. I would like to see more references to the other games.

I think the most obvious one was that you can play Innocent Sin online (of course, a reference to Persona 2), and the person you play with is Maya. I laughed when she said that she hoped she wouldn't run into any Jokers.

FES comes in a regular PS2 case with no artbook. If you love the game enough, you might as well keep the original with the artbook if it's sealed, or possibly sell the game and keep the artbook for yourself.

Yeah, but I ment as part of the story, like if the worlds are actually connected or if P3 is it's own world seperate from previous titles.

Last time it happened I left the save screen and re-checked several times, and it didn't come back. I guess I could've waited it out, but with a possibly missing file I wasn't taking any chances.
Is FES hard to find at this point? I didn't play P3, and I want to get FES before it's gone forever.
Not Online, but being a niche title it might be harder to find locally.

I think Best Buy just got Fes in this last week (rather than the week before), and quite a few copies at that. So I wouldn't worry for a good half a year or so.

But then, I would worry.
I never encountered this problem playing the original P3 on my 80gb.. so I want to clarify.. is this a FES problem?
I don't think so. I believe I've read about it happening in P3, and on other PS3 models.

Just great! I'm having more saving problems on 20gb ps3. Rather then having a memory error and having the files reappear on another load attempt instead the file didn't reappear for second save slot. This was no fluke problem, it occur three times for me. Thank god I made multiple saves for one slot and backup saves on different slots for ps3. I'm so close to beating The Journey on hard mode.

I hope the ps3 won't screw me. I'm probably going to play it safe and transfer the files to my ps2 memory card and play it on that system instead. Too bad I don't have the luxury of ps3 of making multiple saves. My ps2 memory card is packed full of rpg saves.

agh I'm all frustrated!!

I jus finished summer school and my academics maxed out.

I have max stats but I'm not in school so I cant do any student links >_<

and I never had a girlfriend yet either... I heard u can only have 1 at a time...

Chihiro = rank 4, Yuko = 5, Yukari and Fuuko = 1, Misturu = 0

what's the best order to tackle them in?? I wonder if I have enough time to max them all...

How the hell have you already beaten the Answer, and now almost beat the Journey when the game's been out 11 days?

Stuupa lol

I finally started playing yesterday (figured I'd just wait for FES to come out) and this is one great game. Thank god classes are done and all my papers are turned in or this would get dangerous. I don't think I've been drawn into a game this much since Disgaea 1. Makes me glad I have nocturne coming in the mail from amazon too.

In your current situation, your chances are very slim due to their high point requirement along with events like Christmas holiday, field trip and exams. Not to mention the new Aigis social link, girls might get jealous of each other on higher levels and all girls share the same day,Saturday.

-To improve your chances have matching Arcana to get a point boost to make the process much faster(example-have lover persona when social linking with Yukari). Also, pick the correct choices when your social link with a certain character. Most of correct choices involves with their matching personality.

-Spend Sundays with girls once you reach the upper levels. The requirements are pretty high once you reach level 7-10. Giving gifts help as well.

-Another way to improve your social link with the girls is to donate gold at the shrine. Watch out, donating gold will waste your afternoon. Use these shrine during exam periods, events, summer, holidays or days you can't visit the girls.
How the hell have you already beaten the Answer, and now almost beat the Journey when the game's been out 11 days?
It's not hard to accomplish if you already played the previous game and get a good grasp of the game/ battle mechanics. Not to mention I use the Doublejump guide and loaded my previous save slate file will defiantly speed things up. Since the storyline is still the same, I spent the majority of my time jamming the x button to speed things along.

Hard mode isn't that hard at all-increase damage, more susceptible to ailments, greatly increase compendium prices and enemies have a chance for first strike. I will take that any day compared to frustration of playing Digital Saga 2 on hard mode. The critical rate is way too high in Digital Saga 2 as result giving them free press turns. You have to cross your fingers that your opposition doesn't score a critical hit. In Persona 3 Fes you can defeat most enemies if they don't kill you in one hit. Just attack and heal every turn.

You can hold down Triangle, it's faster.

so is Persona 3 FES the original persona 3 game and the included epilogue story? Everywhere I've read make it sound like the entire thing is an expansion to the game, rather than the original + expansion.

Ooh my save files are getting worse. At one point it stopped letting me save into the first save slot, so I copied my backup over it. Now it won't let me copy from slot 1 on my virtual MC to my actual MC. So I had to delete my slot 1 save so I can start a new save later. If I make it to the end it will be a miracle.
You can hold down Triangle, it's faster.
Crap! I totally forgot about that, it could of cut down my playing time about one-fifth. Maybe, I will use it for second cycle. I'm not sure if I can fight
Elizabeth
on first cycle in Fes. If I can't fight her in first cycle, I probably stop playing this game and play another game instead.
I'm not too far into "The Answer" but can you use the money you collect later? I'm asuming, yes.
Yes, you can use your money later in the game once you open first door to gain access to Paulownia Mall. You can use that money towards weapons, armor or items. But no demon compendium. Money is extremely useless when you progress too deep in the game. You can obtain better weapons in final dungeon. When combine that with no demon compendium, you have large abundance of cash.

Some people might dispute that "The Journey" on hard is much harder then "The Answer" mode, I think otherwise. The Journey have some disadvantages like x4 cost for demon compendium, fatigue factor, more damage, much harder to fuse monsters(you need max social link for high tier and need specific monsters for fusion involving 4 or more) and enemy have a chance of first strike. Not a big deal if you use the most basic rpg strategy hurt and heal. But the benefits on The Journey far out weight the cons. Having things like demon compendium to craft ultimate persona by fusing, social links for easy persona level ups, bonus dungeon for easy level grinding after level 80, you can get better weapons due to bonus dungeon, elizabeth quest and weapon fusion. Plus, the bosses on The Answer are far more annoying. All of them have element avoid for their corresponding weakness.

damn I thought "OK, I can max Yukari before the next full moon"

but then we get hit by a monsoon or something like that... and I'm knocked out for 3 days -_-

now everybody's studying for finals when I got her at like level 8 or 9 >_<

anyway, I can juggle 2 girls at once... who should I date at the same time as Fuuka???

Chihiro or Yuko??

I doubt I can do all three before doing my Mitsuru thing, but getting 2 done before I jump onto her is very doable.

It is my sincere belief that Persona 3 is one of those games that actually moves interactive storytelling forward, probably the only one to do so since Planescape: Torment invented writing.*

Arguably Persona 3 is the only game with a story that's mattered since Torment, and by mattered I mean something beyond Final Fantasy Sin-is-Jecht claptraps. In many ways, Persona 3, like Torment, is the gaming equivalent of a concept album. A good one, like, say, Pink Floyd's "The Wall." P3, like Torment, or "The Wall," defines a theme** and sticks to it. It weaves its characters and plot around that theme, not vice versa like Final Fantasy or, say, Metal Gear Solid is notorious for. It also gets bonus points for picking a theme other than "War" or "Friendship" or "Injustice."

It's not perfect. Teenage kids (symbolically) shoot themselves in the head for little purpose other than making the game appear edgy. There is a friendship/dating/whatever system which comes across as infinitely more genuine than some Bioware nonsense, but the protagonist can only be male and straight. He also has a mandatory emo flop.

My point is, up until Persona 3, there hadn't been a game that's made me think about games as something more than impressive programming in years. There certainly hadn't been a game that lingered with me to the extent that Persona 3 does, or made me think about the story and message, or even the characters, when I'm not actually playing. I guess the best thing I can say about the game is that it makes me sad to know I'll be going back to Elves and Orcs and Foozles and MacGuffins eventually.

*Planescape: Torment did not actually invent writing. However, in terms of storytelling in games, it may as well have.

**This theme is actually not "Juggling Five Hot Highschool Chicks At Once," despite your (our) attempts to make it.

By playing the man-whore you only set yourself back. Focus on one thing at a time. Don't try to do everything, just do what you want. Even the strategy guide has no absolute rule on the social links.

Keep in mind that the girls aren't the best ways to get good Personas. You'll be limiting yourself if you level up only the girls.

Wow, that's fucking obnoxious. Just started the 2nd semester and I'm afraid I won't be able to get all the S-Links I missed the first time through the game.
Since I was trying to max Yuko my first time, I avoided the rest of the girls. So now I need to do: Mitsuru, Yuka, Fuuka, Aigis, Bebe, and the annoying kid who's always playing doctor. Can I do this all in 4 months?
Plus, the bosses on The Answer are far more annoying. All of them have element avoid for their corresponding weakness.
Yep. I HATE this. I'm pretty sure the developers were giggling like little schoolgirls when they put this in.

Is there any value in the persona skill increasing games at the arcade? I feel like I get much better personas from fusion that trying to level one up. Will the skill increases carry through fusion or is it only for the end of the game when I'm sticking with certain personas?

In The Answer I also noticed that the avoid rate for enimies is very high. Using Hama & Mudo spells aren't as effective as they used to be, even on enemies that are weak to it.

ato wa, terebi ni, jikan TANAKA-SAN

man, i love how much easier it is to get s.links in this game.
i hated how you had to hang out with people 3 times just to increase s.link by 1.

Sin is Jecht?! Why do I hear Charlton Heston shouting that?
Soylent Green is people!

You've got some very good points and I think I'm going to have to agree. After a bit of thought, I can't state this about any other games. In fact, the only game I've played recently (within the last year) aside from P3 that I can easily remember is Uncharted.
so are s.links easier in both episodes?
As far as I can tell there are no S-Links in "The Answer"

everytime u hang out w/ someone u have 60 days to hang out with them again,

unless you're dating then you got 45 days.

for evertime you see another girl while you're dating a girl, you reduce the meeting window of the first girl by 15 days.

it's easy! I have it all charted out, spend 4 days with two girls, 2 days with other people, and one day with the sunday exclusive.

I agree.

There are only two hot high school chicks in this game.

Did anyone unlock the cutscene where Yukari and Mitsuru are in their underwear, feeding each other strawberries with whipped cream?

No?
Dang. I was hoping there would be one.
