Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Bought Fallout 3 GOTY, and want to start playing RIGHT NOW but I am on vacation with a shitty laptop and no wi-fi stable enough to download a massive game like this anyway, so oh well! Look forward to playing it next week though.

I'm holding off on FNV, because I'm not too sure I'll like FO3 (not completely crazy over RPGs but the amount of praise this gets from all of you and my friends has convinced me to at least give it a shot, and $10 is a price that felt about right) ... but I am sure that will go on sale again down the road... it's not like I don't have enough games in my backlog to keep me occupied until then, let alone Fallout 3!

GD it, Steam is awesome.
Was the Fallout 3 GOTY addition cheaper in the past? I seem to remember it being $8 and change but I may be mistaken.
On Steam? No. The previous cheapest price for Fallout 3 GOTY on Steam is $10.19, during the just-completed 2011 Summer Sale. Source

However, it was also $9.85 on Direct2Drive during their Summer Sale.

Bookmark that link; you can always look up historical Steam prices.

Argh, every damn time Fallout 3 GOTY is on sale, I go crazy debating if I need it or not. Already put over 80 hours in the 360 version...but the improved graphics and MODS...dammit.
I have 150 hours into the 360 FO3 GOTY version.
There is a vanilla FO3 Steam version if you just want to play with the mods.

Fallout 3 for $6.75

.

Is there any other additional DLC planned for New Vegas? Would like to play it now, but I might hold off til Christmas if there is more coming.

Lonesome Road was originally supposed to come out this month but will probably be pushed to September.

There's at least one more coming called Lonesome Road.

Picked up FO3 GOTY. Already have it for 360 but wanted to try out mods.
Can you not mod the GOTY edition or something?
I think he/she meant that if you already have FO3 for 360/ps3 and just want the pc version so that you can try out mods, then you can save money by going with the vanilla version. Mods work with GOTY edition.
Can you not mod the GOTY edition or something?
you can. He was just saying if you already have the expansions on 360/PS3 that you can save a few buxxx if youre just trying to mess w/ the mods.

thinking about getting Fallout New Vegas just to try the mods. I already own it on 360. Any opinions???
As far as New Vegas content, what DLC content do you actually need for the game?
I mean like level cap goes up and all that
Not like you 'need' the level cap to be raised. At level 20 (30 is attainable in the base game) you're already pretty overpowered to the point where you can specialize in multiple areas without any kind of limited build. Unless you're just really into maxing every stat possible on a character for whatever reason.
thinking about getting Fallout New Vegas just to try the mods. I already own it on 360. Any opinions???
I beat it on 360 two times and just bought the PC version a week or so ago. The PC version of New Vegas is vastly superior to the 360 version. The load times are lightning fast compared to the 360 and there's a huge amount of mods. Make sure you get Project Nevada, EVE texture pack, Willow, and A World of Pain.

For me it's perks, I hate being unable to reach certain perks because I always think the the ones I don't have are the most fun to play with lol

The load times and improved graphics were the things that drove me to get the PC version even though I have it on 360 already. I generally don't use mods since I prefer to play the way the original designers intended. I'm sure I'm in the minority there...lol.

Holy balls, what a decline in Metacritic scores for the Painkiller franchise: 80s to 60s to 30s. I have hard copies of Black and Overdose, so I think I can resist the crappy two.

You will find that there are many people that do want that, but after trying it vanilla (as long as it isn't horrible like Oblivion's inventory) then they try out the mods to keep things fresh. Of course then there are those that must have their mods.
What was the price for FO3 GOTY during the summer sale? Im guessing at 9.99, the summer price was higher?
It was like 8.75 or something if I remember that right.

That's b/c PCF (People Can Fly) made the first two - PK + Battle out of Hell.
The PK series ain't been the same since PCF went to do other things, once Epic bought them out - i.e. PC port of Gears of War 1 and the awesome Bulletstorm.
PCF knows how make awesome games. [shrug]

Yeah youre right, Im thinking of Oblivion which was 8 something.

Anyone willing to gift me Fallout 3 GOTY for my copies of Empire: TW and Dirt 3? (yes both of them, you win) Fallout 3 is $16.50 here, plus i got these games spare. Both are Steam codes.

If i hadn't just got Dirt 3, I would've totally done this for ya.
still deciding between FO3:GOTY and FO:NV. don't think I'll have the time to play both..
Get Fallout 3 GOTY. The reason being is Fallout New Vegas still has DLC and the chance of a GOTY edition coming out. Plus it will be on sale at Steam again at some point.

For all of my messages, there is no record in my sent messages folder, and there hasn't ever been. Most likely it isn't just me and you. Probably a feature that isn't gained until a certain status on these forums, if at all.

Just go to each other's profile pages, click on the feedback tab and add positive feedback. =]

Anyone want to do a trade for Dungeons of Dredmor? I got Rome: Total War Gold Edition and Humble Hundle 2 to offer (both of them for it). The copy of Rome: Total War Gold i got is a Steam version.
So is New Vegas and all the DLC worth getting right now?
It's probably not going to get any cheaper until at least Black Friday/The Winter Sale. I really doubt the base game will go below $10 even then. If you haven't played NV at all you could also just get core game and wait on the DLC.

Go here, http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions, and scroll just under half way through, there is section for Private Messages and an option to automatically save a copy to sent items when you send PMs. You can also do it on a per message basis, without that setting, in each PM if I remember correctly.

Yeah, it's horrible what the publisher did to that franchise - essentially taking the name and releasing a handful of crappy fan mods and calling them proper games. The PCF original is just brilliant.
Am i right?
Yes, PK:Black is what you want.

Whats so "Black Edition" about Painkiller? Is it like a goty rerelease? or is it just named that for no reason? Ill probably get it when it goes on sale again in the future. After getting the quakecon pack, Ill probably be replaying all the dooms and wolfensteins. gotta love them old school shooters. too bad the original duke nukem isnt on steam. I feel like I should pay for it since I played it to death with the High Res mods.
