We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.
Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.

During the summer sale there was one easy achievement per day. I hope the same thing happens during this sale. I WANT FREE GAMES!

Coupons work with discounted items, so combining it with a daily deal would make it a very nice deal.
 
With extremely limited funds this year, my hopings are honestly for just one game to have a sweet daily deal. I really want Hard Reset. I see it has dropped in price to 19.99, and is currently on sale for 9.99. Hopefully it will be one of the dailies for 5 bucks or so. That I could swing.

Is that asking for to much?

Also, I got a 33% of any Valve published game coupon that cant be usend until after Jan. 2, 2012. I already have anything made by Valve that I want, so if there is anyone out there that can actually USE this coupon let me know and I will gladly gift it you you. Hit me with a pm on here.

It says on the "How does it work?" page that it's one gift/coal per completed objective.
 
Was I supposed to get 1 for free and then a second for looking at it? Or just 1? I've done 2 of the achievements (including look at my inventory), but I only have 2 things.

You're supposed to get one for logging in and another for looking at your inventory. It's extremely buggy atm. I only got 1 gift on my main account, and zero gifts on my other account.

on my main account i have 2 objectives completed and only 1 steam prize.
but on my other account, i have just 1 completed with two prizes.

I've recently finished it and found it an enjoyable game. Nothing fancy but the story was quite original and the ending has a nice "ah... that explains it" to some events that might be confusing during the game :p
The gameplay and controls are good enough as well. I didn't really find it creepy though. Only during the first hour maybe.

On another note: I can't seem to find my free gift either. I have a gift copy of Booster Trooper that shows up just fine, but nothing else. Makes me feel like I've been left out :(
*edit* Got 25% off any valve title. Crappy.

And lastly: I see no discount in skyrim :( so I doubt it will show up in the sales. Too bad, no skyrim for me for a while longer I suppose. Maybe RAGE, then. If it will show up in a daily and the discount is ok enough.

FYI There is a Hard Reset complete/extended/GOTY edition coming out in march. Just so you can make an informed choice.
 
Picked up Faerie Solitaire for a buck. Almost any game is worth that price I'd say. Finally got my gifts and they are not very good...25% off a Valve game and 50% off Solar 2. :cry:
 
For anyone familiar with Orcs... How early in the game is the Hallway level? Just wondering how much time one would need to spend in the game to get the achievement before it expires tomorrow....

First gift from the Pile is AVP for me. I guess I lucked out on that one. Also have a 50% off Amnesia if anyone wants it. Just send me a PM since I have no interest if it is tradeable.

In the past you haven't. No guarantees for this sale but I imagine it works the same way.
 
I only seem to have one gift and the objective completed. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but wanted to ask how the second gift is given. Tried relogging onto Steam but no luck.
 
Not as big of a fan of the randomness of this sale... I liked the Summer sale a lot more, gave me something to work towards, not just a chance.

But... I can't argue with free stuff. Got 25% a Valve game coupon and HL2: Deathmatch... worthless to me.

Does anyone have any opinions on Cargo? Looks interesting...
 
I got 1 gift - Portal 2. I've already bought it twice when it came out for my wife and I so I dunno what to do with it. Pretty good sales otherwise - highly recommend Orcs Must Die for the easy gift and for an awesome game.

Seriously - I tried Portal 1 but never really got into it, but everyone seems to love the games. Perhaps I should give it another try?

Got a 50% off Valve and 50% off any Meridian game. Anyone want that second one? None of their games look very good to me.

I too, only have one gift. Waiting on the second one. First one is 25% off Valve game .....hoping for better luck on that second one!

I'm in the US and don't see the Steam tab in the inventory, a quick look at the forums indicates its a known problem, they're working on a fix.
 
It's been confirmed on the Steam forums that Fable: The Lost Chapters does NOT have controller support. Bummer.

Edit: Steam is so fucked today.

I also only got one gift, even after doing that first achievement. ...And it was one of those 25% off coupons you can't use 'til after the sale. Meh. :/

Hopefully the other gift shows up eventually.

I probably should have come back to this thread earlier... Already gave it to a friend of mine that works too hard and never gets a chance to play these games. At least I may have a few free Christmas presents to give out through this.
 
The indie bundle on sale has Rochard which is easily worth the $20 entry fee to the bundle itself.

But Rochard by itself is $10 and nothing else in the bundle is really that good except for possibly Avodon which is STILL in my backlog.

I still cannot access anything. This is ridic. If I was the publishers for this first round of games, i'd demand a do over. at this rate i'll be waiting till 3 this morning to finally get to look.
 
My $25 RAGE just arrived and I was betting Steam wouldn't beat that.

They did. RAGE for $20.

And it will probably get a daily.

Yeah, I double checked the forums shortly after and it seems to be a very common problem. I guess I'll just wait it out and hope for the best.
