Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

That's true, I have a GTX 560 and I still can't run with all of the DirectX 11 on.
I have a GTX 470 and an i7-860 with 8gb of ram and it plays fine all the way cranked up and with phsyx since that last patch. I have a few frame dips but average is about 40fps. The original was about 50-60 on the same rig. It almost feels weird playing it on 50-60 though as its almost too smooth it looks better in my opinion at 30-40.
Has anyone played Renegade Ops? Just watched a couple of the vids, it looks pretty fun, although now I want to get a controller dongle for my PC.
I got it at the last sale, it's a lot of fun and very well done. Granted, I've only played three missions so far (my backlog is killing me). It was worth the 7.50 I spent, so for 3 dollars it's a steal.

30 fps is what a lot of movies are shot at, so it makes sense that something cinematic like Batman would look better with that movie type feel.

I have a GTX 560ti and a i7 2600 with 8GB RAM and it's painfully slow the moment Batman appears at the "press Start screen". Just one time after the patch did it load and play very well. It takes forever to load the game. It plays beautifully with DirectX 9 though, and I finished it already.

I can run it nearly maxed out, it's just the DX11 features can't be turned on full, it runs with a very noticable lag at that point.

Specs: PNY GTX 560, AMD 955 BE OC'd at 3.6, 8GB of 1333 RAM

But who knows, maybe the patch fixed it for me, I've been too busy to try.
The problem is this. Say you want to buy a digital game for your Xbox. You will only have ONE place to buy it from, Xbox Marketplace. And the same goes for PSN. Unless they open their doors more to places like Amazon.

The great thing about the PC is the competition. If there was no competition there would never be a need for sales of this magnitude...

Consoles don't and most likely will never have that type or amount of competition and that could just mean higher prices for a very long time. But yes, it is early and hard to tell. And I have even said that we won't see the quality Steam brings to the table for quite some time on Consoles just because of how long it took Steam to not suck...
Given the "AppStore" direction it seems every platform is going with, such competition is getting less and less, as many platforms are using it to lock down access to anything but the "approved" source.

PCs are still the great frontier that still manages to get by unregulated. I'm hoping it says that way, but with Microsoft's direction for Windows 8, some things about the future are muddy.
Lord I thought my console backlog was bad.
My Steam backlog has surpassed my total current gen backlog since I started with the Potato Sack earlier this year.

lol Steam.

EDIT: Woo called Blur! Also, the things I traded for Operation Flashpoint: Red River total up to just about that price. ddog's psychic powers confirmed.

Film is shot at 24fps

It ran awful for me before the patch between 10-20 fps in dx11 and about 60 fps in dx9. The patch fixed all my issues. Its unfortunate it looks like it didn't for others as well. That being said I've probably only put in about 5 hours total into the game. I'd like to go back and play more but it feels alot like the first and not as special. I don't really like how open it is. I liked the structure of the original better. Also, there is old republic that is calling me.
Has anyone played Renegade Ops?
Just played 30 mins of it. The winter achievement isn't available yet though (do'h!). Basically you shoot santa down. Merry christmas mothaf... - anyways, the steering controls take some getting used to but the overall game-play is alright. Nothing fantastic. It's just a shoot-em-up on wheels pretty much. Oh, and you can play as Gordon Freeman for some reason LOL. Has an Ant-Lion special attack.

Another day without anything for me. My wallet appreciated it for a moment, before I remembered to go to Gamersgate and get the Deus Ex deal.

Tempted to buy ME2 for 5 bucks, even though I own it on the PS3. (I have Me1 on the PC, but it won't run on my computer well)

Avadon I'm in for, however. I think I'm gonna skip on Jurassic Park for now.

Divinity 2: DKS was great when I bought it last holiday sale for the full $20 (I think? It may have been $10) - while I'm sure most of the RPG crowd is busy with Skyrim, $10 for DKS is not bad for the amount of content you're getting.

As for me, Avadon it is!

Damn, no games or objectives for me today.

Still hoping on that 75% off Skyrim!

got a 33% off coupon on Skyrim today I could give it to you if you want, I won't need it since I already own it myself

I've never bought anything from gamersgate before. If I buy Deus Ex: Human Revolution from them, can I activate it on Steam?
got a 33% off coupon on Skyrim today I could give it to you if you want, I won't need it since I already own it myself
I would accept that, sadly I have no coupons left to trade for it though.
Divinity II doesn't support controller, it looks like.
No it doesn't, and it also doesn't have tv-friendly text. I wish I had known that before buying it in the Amazon sale a couple weeks ago. #-o

I was about to say I'm just waiting on Hard Reset to go on sale, then I realized it IS on sale, just not part of the daily deals. Think I'm gonna bite, $10 was my price on it.
I've never bought anything from gamersgate before. If I buy Deus Ex from them, can I activate it on Steam?
Yes. The HR bought through GG activates on Steam
any opinions on skydrift?

and i got a copy of universe sandbox from the defcon achievement! hooray for physics and science and junk!
Go into Universe Simulator, set the Earth's velocity to 0 and you'll unlock an achievement for another day in this sale.
Avadon is $2.49. If you like turn-based RPGs, you owe yourself to get this game. I absolutely loved it and sunk 50 hours into it, easy.
Just got a copy, sounds great.

Also E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy is an unannounced deal at $2.49 75% off which I am also partaking in. :D

A tip for everyone, put all the games you want on a wishlist and check it every day. There been days where there were dailies not posted on the main page like E.Y.E.

Yay, nothing in todays sale for me, except maybe, perhaps, limbo, but probably not.

As for the achievements today, I can do a few, thankfully. I will say, The Polynomial is one of the worst... I'm not even sure I'd call it a game, but it's been great for these sale achievements.

Only slightly interested in alien breed, everything else is either too expensive or already owned.

Tons of achievements to do today though, best one is:

Merry Christmas - Nuke Santa and thereby end Christmas for everyone, for ever more
No it doesn't, and it also doesn't have tv-friendly text. I wish I had known that before buying it in the Amazon sale a couple weeks ago. #-o
Good to know. Wasn't that interested. Might have gotten it if it supported the controller.
Do you already have Torchlight? That game is awesome, even more so at that price.
Yep

I beat Limbo. It's short, but very interesting for a puzzle solver. Great gothic & noir feel to it. I liked, but I'm not sure if everyone will. Definitely very black and white too.
Great, my second coupon so far and it's 50% off divinity 2.
