Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Play the game when enemies die they sometimes drop presents, you just need to pick up presents til you get the achievement.

Not much for today, besides maybe SPAZ, Dungeon Defenders, and possibly Section 8: Prejudice. Still, it's been a pretty lackluster sale, at least for me. I usually buy tons.

I hate Valve sometimes.

So today's haul they give me 25% off coupon for Dead Island (I own), 66% off Singularity (I own), and 50% off Amnesia (I own). ..........

Nothing for me today, I think. Even though I played Assassin's Creed I and II, the 2nd one is calling me. It says, "You only played me about half-through. You should get me and start over..."

Steam is trolling me just got more coal from the TF2 and Sanctum objectives I'm up to 14 coals in row. Now I don't feel like trying the Revenge of the Titans and Dungeon Defenders objectives since I'll probably end up getting more coal :(

Whoever makes Revenge of the Titans I want to promptly kick their ass. So I did the x-mas level last week (and the game somehow glitched so I was able to do it no troubles), then they add in an achievement for completing the whole level which I don't have and it's the daily.

Super easy. Start a local server, put a password on it. Pause the game, go into Options, tick on the developer console. Now press the tilde (~) and type in mp_disable_respawn_times 1 and bind k kill. Press k over and over. It took me about 8 minutes.

You're not alone :) Please share your knowledge, oh wise fellow CAGers! :D

Today was the most damaging for my wishlist/wallet:

Serious Sam 3
S.P.A.Z.
Solar 2

$25 is a lot in Steam-speak but that's still about what one console game costs on sale.
Which Tomb Raider game is better to get other then Guardian of Light?
Anniversary is a remake of the original game, which is definitely recommended. I've only played a little bit of Underworld, and I'm not sure I'm too impressed by it.
ALSO EVERYONE BUY MACHINARIUM IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY
It's probably because I never play click games, but of all the indie games I've bought this one just wasn't fun for all the wrong reasons. I don't mind hard puzzles, but this game just pisses in your cheerios with how god damn precise you need to be in mousing over something you need to click. I had to use youtube far too much, just to figure out what I already knew but hadn't clicked on that one specific pixel. It was also difficult at times to decipher what constituted a lever/switch from background art etc.

Also never finished the game since for whatever retarded reason they store your save in a flash file. Well WTF does that matter you ask? Because guys like me use fancy cleanup programs like CCleaner which just happens to wipe such files unless you mark them specifically for immunity. Unless you're really into games like these, I can't recommend it for sake of artsy gaming alone.

The video above shows a pretty ideal gift-getting situation, I literally killed myself over and over again for 15 minutes before I even saw my first gift. I was just switching to my laptop to check if this method was patched or something when the first gift box popped out.

I'm probably just unlucky... but if yours doesn't come out, just keep trying. And trying. And trying.

Just did the SPAZ cheevo. It's pretty easy just go to a planet and keep killing spaceships. At some point milk and cookies will drop for which santa will come and eat it up. Once santa has eaten enough he will drop something that gives you it.

Waiting on Steam to sync it so I get credit and my prize.
This is not a complaint, as I have been posting about achievements as well, but with all the game/coupon/coal hunting I miss those CAG posts that show a couple of hidden gems in the sale.

So far I have only Dark Void (2.99) and Dark Void Zero (0.99), not to mention CAG favorite Faerie Solitaire (1.00). Any other finds?
Delve Deeper and its DLC together are $1.37. That's not a bad deal if the game interests you.

Try this: Up at the top of the Store page, where the search box is, leave the searchbox blank but click the magnifying glass (go button). This search will return every game on Steam. Now, change the "all items" dropbox to "games", to eliminate all the DLC and map packs. Sort on the "price" column, and start wading through. This is the fastest way to find all the super-cheapo deals each sale. You have to wade through a lot of cheap DLC, Magic: the Gathering packs, and SEGA Genesis redux games, but there are treasures in there for sure, many with demos.

Tip: avoid "Children of the Nile", it's dreadful. (IMHO).

I would love that AC pack but I have them all on Xbox besides the original which i traded in. I wish I could trade them all for PC copies though.
How's AC:Brotherhood's controls for mouse and keyboard? Sounds like it'd be horrible, haven't picked up a wired controller yet.
Can't speak for Brotherhood, but I couldn't play ACII with kbm and I'm usually anti-controller for PC games.
30 mins to go. I have a question, and might as well get it out of the way now in case it dailies.

Anyone here play or have played Hoard and is it any good? Looks interesting, but want to get a CAG's opinion on it.
It's a good game if you have friends to play it with. Playing alone is lonely. Playing with randos online is frustrating because people bail out on the game when they're losing, although the AI that takes over is really very challenging. Maps take 6 or 8 minutes to play, IIRC, so it's a real problem.

If you play with random people, use the "co-op" mode. It's the one that's most likely to keep everyone playing all the way through. It doesn't show individual scores until the very end.

Past the gameplay, the presentation is excellent. It's very polished, very attractive, and easy to get started... although there are advanced gameplay tips to learn as you get better to maximize your score. Like, how to prune a town so it makes the most valuable carriages, the fewest thieves, etc. Good luck!

I wholeheartedly agree with this man.
Man that get games go site is slow. I got SS3 there and got my code but it was a painful process.
Yeah, while they have given away free games in the past and sometimes have deals their system is just not equipped for any manner of sales traffic.

Okay, so I got the TF2 achievement a few minutes ago, but the Steam gift page hasn't recognized it yet. Is there a trick to making this work, or do I just have to wait?

Jodou, I loved Machinarium. I can't remember if I had to use guides, but the only real part that I couldn't get passed was when you had to shake the wire, and that was because my pc was to slow to allow me to get the momentum high enough. Other than that, I don't remember having any problems clicking things.

Yeah.. the game glitched for me as well.. and not only that, the achievement glitched too ugh. I got it but it's not unlocked on the giftpile page, any suggestions?

The achievement was easy to get due to the weird glitch that makes nearly all of the enemies not appear on the screen.

That happened to me with the TF2 achievement. Maybe its something on steams end?

Thanks! I think I was using "specials" in the search field with all items. Your sorting method works much, much better.

Maybe its cause we all cheated to get it.

Thanks to my fellow CAG peeps here for the recommendation on $12 Serious Sam 3. :D I got the code about 2 minutes after purchasing, and am looking forward to plopping it in after work. Rather painless, and a great deal on a game I'm sure I'll love. :D Thanks again guys!

And for the record, I find Sequence's dialogue funny. I took a bunch of screencaps to show my hubby later.

"On a scale of one to whining, shut your face."

"My offense is 5? Why 5? That's so arbitrary."

Description for an item - Obsidian: The most evil-sounding mineral.

I just love how the game makes fun of itself. :D

Since everyone on the Steam forums is complaining about objectives not getting unlocked, I think it's safe to assume that they're not working at the moment.
Nevermind, working now.

And I got...Left 4 Dead 2!! Pretty excited to get an objective game I don't have.
Also, coal. Gave up and crafted a couple coupons. I haven't done the other three objectives I have games for, so hopefully I'll get some more decent prizes.

tf_bot_add 23
mp_friendlyfire 1

Makes it so much easier. Though it's really not terribly hard to get this achievement during normal gameplay.

Yeah, the game knows its concept is silly and has no bones about making fun of itself.

Just Dead Space 2 for me today I want to get Homefront but I'm not paying $7.50 for it, I'll hold off on AC Brotherhood I haven't played ACII yet plus my backlog will probably keep me from playing it anytime soon, hopefully it will be cheaper during the steam summer sale

I'm not even good enough at the game to do the achievement. Surely I'd get a coupon anyway. 25% off Meridian4 and 50% off The Void today. =\

Edit: Arrived about 20 minutes late. Coal. Whoo.

Did the Sequence achievement about 10-15 ago, and no prize yet. Seems there's a general lag.
