Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

Hey guys, does Saints Row Third play better on the PC than the 360? Cars popping in and out and such? I'm trying to decide which version I want before the deal goes away. Thanks.
I liked Dinner Date for the experience it was. It can easily be completed in 15 minutes or so, but it's a worthy 15 minutes.

That thing is amazing. I bought it for my husband and I've enjoyed looking through it as well. I'm not sure I've ever seen such a comprehensive, beautiful guide.
I bought Dinner Date after seeing someone else on here post about it. I read about it before, but I didn't know it was on Steam.

I am a fan of hardcover guides that include bonus stuff like artwork, lore, etc. However, on games like Skyrim, I now tend to wait to see if there will be a "Game of the Year" edition that has all the DLC included and maybe some extra stuff. I bought the Fallout 3 GOTY guide like that. I'm waiting to see if New Vegas has a similar one, since I didn't pick up the "vanilla" hardcover guide.
I just played a bit of Crime craft and boy are those controls horrible. Press F1 to throw a snowball? Are you kidding me?
You can remap it to a mouse button.
Out of curiosity, has anyone here won anything on steamgifts? I register me points religiously and still no luck on anything.
i have yet to win. but at least its real easy to enter for drawings. i just go down the list and ctrl+click to open it in a new tab.
I've seen many mentions to GamersGate.com, but I have never used it. It kind of looks like Direct2Drive's model where there is no client, and you just download the game files through them (also like GOG, I guess). Is that right?

I personally am very intentional about only having games from a few places so I never forget where they're at if I need to play/download them. That's why I currently only use Steam, GOG, and Origin (just because of BF3 and my retail games that I activated on Origin). I also just downloaded Desura due to it's mod and indie game support and have many indie games on there from bundles, but I haven't really used it yet. I plan to install some mods soon using it.

The exception to my "rule" is a couple games I bought from Amazon or GetGamesGo that are Steam activated, meaning that it doesn't matter where I bought them once they're on Steam.
if forgetting is your big issue, create a spreadsheet or something. I have all my purchases and their information in a spreadsheet including steam. steam has removed a game from my library before, its good to have records of what youve bought regardless

Yeah, it's a real simple and easy system, I just want to hear at least one success story to keep me interested in it...lol

and yeah man, with the way all digital retailers keep your account and with huge HDs available I've gotten off the steam only addiction in favor of just good deals period...

Yeah somebody pointed that out on the steam Crime craft board. After binding it to RMB, I was able to get the Achievement in two playthroughs. I got coal for my achieve, which brought my total to 7. I promptly crafted that sucker into a 33% off valve coupon.

Good lord, that was a complete fucking waste of time. *sigh*

Well, it has been pointed out many times that you were likely to get a valve coupon for crafting at this point. It isn't like you haven't been warned.

That's a good idea. I do have some Google Docs for stuff like that, though I've never done it with my game purchases.

I've got games spread out over multiple services, and I ended up making a spreadsheet accordingly (and updating my Backloggery account to be spot on as a backup).

This morning I gifted out about $70 worth of games to my friends; I'm on a self-imposed embargo buying games for myself, so I figure that's about what I would have spent on myself anyway :] Generosity is fun!

dawwwww :applause:

I did a 4-pack for Dungeon Defenders but I still have 2 copies at $2.81. PM me if interested.

GONE

In terms of keeping track of games from multiple services I actually just bought an external hard drive and make a backup of everything. I use a folder for each service (Steam, D2D, GOG, etc) and put everything in there. Convenient because I don't have to re-download things or go poking around for them. A spreadsheet is a great idea too.

Oh I know. I understand that it's only Valve stuff, I just thought that there might have been at least a tiny chance that I'd win Portal 2. Or some other valve game that I didn't have. Or even a valve game that I do have.

ended up playing a ton of binding of isaac and SPAZ during the sale
didn't buy too much still spent $30, first steam sale was holiday 2009.
bought
Space Pirates and Zombies(SPAZ) (favorite pickup this sale)
Universe Sandbox
Star Wars: Empire at War Gold
Sequence
Bastion
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy
Greed Corp (I liked the world from gattling gears, amusing concept)
Faerie Solitaire
Orcs Must Die!
total $24.80
will probably add gundemonium collection bringing it to
$29.79 before the sale ends though.

won
Valve Complete pack only thing I still want from here is portal 2 so will try and sell it or trade it away at some point.
Trainz™ Simulator 12
coupons and coal

Knowing that so many people have free Valve games and tons of copies of the same may I ask a good soul to trade me a copy of Portal 2? Uhh I have a useless coupon so yeah it's just waiting for someone to be a good person with me xD

I can't compare it to the 360, but I know it's been pretty much flawless on the PC for me.

wow, just bought 2 gift copies for Bastion. First time it said unable to complete purchase but it went through, then i look up and see on my credit that the $5.09 was deducted. Then, thinking for some strange reason it didn't work, i went and bought another. Valve has possessed me. 0_0
Someone posted this thread a few pages back that has a nice list of cheap "non-Daily Deal" games with screen shots.

Personally, if you haven't gotten them yet, I recommend VVVVVV and Blocks that Matter. I found both of those to be horribly entertaining and fun.

If you like classic Metroid games can't go wrong with Dark Void Zero for 99 cents.
Thanks picked up a few

Cheaplikeafox- I have won something on steamgifts. You just have to keep on trying, and try not to enter anything with over a thousand entries, and check the forums for puzzle giveaways if you are good at solving puzzles because a lot of those end up only getting a few hundred entries. Hope that helps raise your hopes a bit for the site :)

Thanks! Didn't know about the forums... looks like I got another place to visit.

My final pick ups:

Batman Arkham City

Half-Life 2
C&C: Red Alert 3
Binding of Issac
Sequence
Bastion
Anomaly: WE
Alice: MR
Greed Corp
Swords and Soldiers
Defense Grid + DLC
Dungeons of Dredmor
Psychonauts
Bunch of Heroes

Satisfied with this year's sale.

Okay, this has probably been asked 32 11 times already, but here's 32 12 times:

When will they announce that I won the Big Prize with my 6 coal?*

* That's sarcasm. All I've ever won in life is a chicken in kindergarten and my parents made me return it. Yeah. I'm from the south.

I love Gamersgate and have bought a lot from them during their sales. Actually, it's my go-to place for games Steam just plain doesn't have. During their New Years sale, for instance, I picked up Baron Wittgard, Dark Fall 2, Darkness Within, and Darkness Within 2 all for $8.23.
Anyone have any steam gifts for Counter-Strike (Source or Original) or Day of Defeat (Original)?
I have Counter Strike: Source sitting my inventory.
Generally only the winners find out. Valve doesn't make a big splashy announcement to tell 99.95% of us that we won nothing.

However, the word gets out in the Steam forums, and might get a mention here. In the past, winners have posted screenshots on the Steam fourms of the announcements they receive. They come through the Steam client - "You won! blah blah blah."
Does anyone have a last minute opinion on fractal? Is it worth the sale price now or would it be better to wait for a larger price drop? Thanks :)
Fractal is well worth it. Bought it launch day no regrets so that price is mighty fine..
Anyone have any 50% Valve software coupons still sitting around? I'd love to get Portal 2 for $3.50.
I only picked up Left 4 Dead 2 - having three children will do that to your gaming budget. That being said, does anyone have any 50% Valve software coupons still sitting around? I'd love to get Portal 2 for $3.50.

It looks like I have run out of time now but for future reference which of the Aaaaaaah games do most people prefer if I only want to purchase one, Reckless Disregard for Gravity or For the Awesome?

I considered the Dejobaan Complete Pack but I'm not sure if I would have much interest in Wonderful End of the World (already own Katamari Forever on PS3) or 123 Kick It.
