Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

Yep, my coal is gone. All that is left is my coupons and my copy of Osmos that I feel like I am never gonna get rid of since it's been in 2 indie bundles already (great game btw, already own it).

Oh well, I hope steam posts the winners at least.

I think everyone only got one game as part of the initial gift draw and then it was nothing but coupons, none of which I even like.
Was hoping the 7 pieces of coal equaled another game, not another shitty coupon (oh boy, 50% of 1,2,3 Kick It...its still barely more than a demo and won't become anything more!)
I can only imagine some kind of trading community developing around the coupons.
RollingSkull's sentiments seem to be shared by those who have compared SR2 to SR3 feature for feature and don't subscribe to the notion that sometimes less is more. I, on the other hand, never played SR2 and found SR3 to be immensely entertaining.
I keep finding big circlejerk threads of people who are just as disappointed as me if not moreso. It's just HERE that I'm the minority.

I will say it is competent at what it does though I would not especially rate it higher than most other sandbox games. It is not like SR3 is Duke Nukem Forever. If you get a good deal, you aren't wasting your money unless you view supporting such awful DLC practices as a huge negative.

But it's not like we're looking through it with a fine-toothed comb demanding to know where FUZZ is. There's a lot that's just plain worse and gone. You can't ignore it if you've played the previous games and you can't NOT compare it to other sandbox games.

And, just to reiterate, the frame rate was not often as high as I would have liked but the whole game still ran beautifully and looked pretty damn decent on my computer. Had NOT heard of anyone who had problems with the PC port at all so that too is new to me.

It is never too late to random santa someone.

And I almost hope they don't announce the winners because if they do announce who won all the games then you can be sure people are going to try and hack that account.

HAHAHA GUESS WHO HAS TWO THUMBS AND JUST WON EVERY GAME ON STEAM! THATS RIGHT ME

AND GUESS WHAT?! THEY ALLLLLLL SUUUCK.

:p
Dang, is SR3 really that mediocre on PC? I thought they were making a big push to do better after the disaster that was the port of SR2. Disappointing if true.
Ran absolutely fine on my system, beginning to end.

I've seen your game library. If you won the grand prize, it'd amount to two new games for you.
Both of those trades are scores since Hacker Evolution is part of Indiegala and could easily be obtained for less than 2 bucks.
Really? Damn, now I feel like I've scammed the guy :( Although I also gave him a HiB4 code for it but those are kinda worthless anyway.

I don't feel bad for Portal 2 vs Dungeon Defenders though. I specifically asked him if that's all he wanted for it and he kept saying yes. So :bouncy:

Saints Row 3 runs great. Not saying there isn't vanishing vehicles, but building pop in wasn't happening for me.

The major problem for people who experience this is that when driving or just being outdoors the frame rate drops severely, often into the 20s, and changing video settings to minimum and even dropping the resolution down has no effect. I can't play like that. Indoors I get 60fps most of the time. If I drive through a tunnel my fps jumps up to 60, exit the tunnel and it's back to 20s. I don't have this kind of erratic performance in any other game I can think of. A lot of people are having this problem.

Anyone have any idea how the coupons work? That is, I have a 50% off coupon (several of these actually) and if they put a game on sale, will it stack with the sale? I dont expect to be able to use my 50% with a 25/33% off coupon. I have >30 coupons from the achievements I got on multiple accounts.

I'm kicking myself for missing out on l4d2. I wanted to get that game, perhaps the 4 person bundle and missed it. I did get flight control (but it isnt working properly for me) and the humble bundle 4 games (donated $10 for it), and picked up

Video games must be making me more violent and morbid because this would be a he'll of a lot funnier if you had no thumbs and a Mac.

The Saints Row 3 stuff. It runs very well for me (nvidia/intel fwiw) and I find the game to be very fun. It knows what it wants to do and does it. That being making you very powerful with lots of awesome toys. My only complaint about the game is the city is a bit small. Otherwise I've enjoyed every single minute I've played the game, the whole premise is just crazy from sex slaves dressed/treated as ponies pullin carts and doing a chase/getaway to a game show with how good you kill.

I'm just gonna chime in... SR3 is a lot of fun and the co-op is a blast. I bought two copies for myself and the wife and don't regret the full price purchase.

A bunch of people were dumping games for less than they worth. I know I did with DOTA2, I didn't care about the beta and preferred to get a cheaper game I'd enjoy.

I wish I could participate in these sales, but I don't think my new (early 2011) MBP can handle Windows' games.

I mainly want to play BF3 but I don't know if my MBP is fast enough and I don't have a Windows 7 64-bit CD and don't want to drop $200-$220. (yes I know, it is not in this sale, but if I ran Windows, I would probably get some of these games too).

This was my haul for the Winter Sale. Ended up costing me around $50 after some trades/gifting and selling coal. Not bad if you ask me.

I'm using a late 2009 15" Macbook Pro, and I can play all current games (I've been playing Skyrim, Saints Row 3, Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed Revelations). All these games have been built by devs that are targeting the Xbox 360/PS3 that came out in 2005 with mediocre hardware. Your computer is far more powerful then that.

The trick is that the 13" and airs don't have a discrete graphics card. Your luck may very there. You can try some of the Mac games (Team Fortress 2 is free), before springing for a Windows install.

Oh, but be aware that games on the Mac run a ton slower then on a Windows install. Drivers are just way better for Windows. *sigh*

It's kind of depressing that the sale is over. It was fun getting up every day and rushing to see what the new deals and objectives were.

Is that an extra copy of Metro 2033 you have? If so are willing to sell or trade it?

I needs more Steam and Origin friends. Check my sig, yo.

Debating whether or not to recap what I bought. It might be be jawdropping since this was my first Steam sale. I just built my first computer about a month ago and I might have went a bit crazy on the purchases.

Of course, I already have a butt ton of Steam games and annoyingly little time to play them.
I keep finding big circlejerk threads of people who are just as disappointed as me if not moreso. It's just HERE that I'm the minority.

We don't agree with you about Saint's Row 3 at Co-Optimus either. :p
The Xbox 360's power was anything but mediocre in 2005. Heck, it still often outperforms the PS3, which came out a year later (thanks to good tools and of course more RAM). Comparing it to the highest end PC graphics card at the time is silly, but I'm sure you wouldn't do that anyway since you're apparently content to game on a Mac.

I must say, I'll miss the sale. I think I enjoyed the Summer one a bit more, but it was an awesome sale none the less. It's time to recap the sale!

Purchased:
Dungeons of Dredmor w/DLC
Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum

My haul:

Fallout New Vegas
Hard Reset
LA Noire
Red Faction Armageddon Path to War
Rock of Ages
Splinter Cell Conviction

Amazon

Gift pile
Solar 2
Frozen Synapse
22 coal
4 coupons

Total Spent: $41 @ Amazon and $63 @ Steam = $104

Overall its was a great holiday sale, almost kept to my budget which $100 I did have to skip on a couple of games that I wanted but there is always the chance they'll be on sale this summer

I ended up clearing a good portion of my wishlists for respective sites. My only disappointment was Bastion. I think the biggest reward was that the gift pile got me to play games that had just been sitting in my collection and I was pleasantly surprised by some, mainly Jamestown, Frozen Synapse, Rusty Hearts and

Steam
Half-Life 1 Anthology
Dungeons of Dredmor + DLC
Bastion
Sequence
Terraria
Universe Sandbox
Dreamfall + The Longest Journey
and I finally found a trade for RACE 07!

GoG
Myst
Riven
Alpha Centauri

I dont know my exact totals, but I think Im looking at about $35 and I should be set for the next couple months. I cant say Ill miss the objectives. I think Trine and Magicka may be permanently ruined for me...
It's kind of depressing that the sale is over. It was fun getting up every day and rushing to see what the new deals and objectives were.
Definitely! I loved getting up and seeing what the new achivements were that I would need to get.

Almost like a mini-Christmas every single morning.
anyone else having fluctuating download speeds? Mine go from around 1mb to 800kbs to 200kbs then 0 then start to go back up again
Same thing is happening to me. It's taking me forever to download anything today.

I think my ISP (Comcast) is also acting up because I'm getting about 3-5Mbps download speeds versus my usual 16-18Mbps downloads. I've tried resetting my router and modem but it's still sluggish. Gonna have to call them tomorrow and sort this out because, well, they're Comcast :p

Good luck to you :)

You know now that we have coupons and the system is in place, I am curious to see how they are implemented as in how do we get coupons besides the Steam sale.

I can really see this working out for games with sequels where x sequel to game might have a coupon for 50% off the first or something. Kinda as either a preorder bonus or a first few days type of sale. I mean deals like this might just make games more appealing non summer/holiday sale wise.

Before the Xmas sale people who owned Railworks received Railworks related coupons that could be used on gifting the base game or just buying DLC. So I imagine we might see stuff along that line too.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them as a preorder bonus. It's a good way to encourage the preorder while also encouraging someone to spend more money. It'd be sort of like how Best Buy occasionally will run buy one, get one 1/2 off, except limited to certain titles.

A smart thing to do would be to award them after someone uses a guest pass. That way, if I give my friend a guest pass that he enjoyed, he's more likely to buy it and save a few bucks rather than waiting for a sale, which is how I imagine most of the people on these forums operate.

I have Comcast too and I didn't have any trouble DLing 10GB of Super Street Fighter 4 earlier. Solid 2Mbps for nearly the whole thing.

actually might be just certain games, was doing that while trying to download Medieval 2 Total War but when I paused that and went to download TF2 got a good 1.5-2 mbps and finished pretty quick and now the same for Empire Total War
