Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
For what it's worth, IGN Prime is now up and fully working. Having Rochard in my library now is a pretty nice feeling. I thought it was gonna end up like that flying game they did a couple of weeks ago.
Sorry for the stupid question, but this is my first time with IGN Prime. It seems like it's working for me, but the only link I can access is a link to download games from d2d/gamefly. Do the free games from IGN Prime have to be downloaded from D2d (and so I need to sign up for an account there)? If not, is there a specific place where I can get the keys for the games? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Go to the IGN home page, click on the link on the toolbar that says My IGN, then click on the Prime tab that shows up on the new toolbar below the main toolbar. Here is where you'll find the free games on the left side of the page in the first section. ;)

Re: DS3 bundle. While the base game was $5 on Amazon the DLC was sold for $4 by Steam and other outlets during the Holiday sale -- so $9 total. The expansion wasn't that bad, decent enough amount of content but the enchanting feature and items it added are nothing notable. Only worthwhile if for some reason you think you can't get enough DS3.
You're better off not getting DS 1 & 2 on Steam, anyway. The multiplayer is a HUGE part of those games, and the Steam versions have multiplayer disabled.

Not sure if there's a way to enable multiplayer without pirating, but if you're getting it on Steam it'll be strictly singleplayer without some workaround.
Eh, I am not much of a multiplayer gamer anyway.

Do you know if Total Conversions for the old DS games like Ultima V Lazarus will work with the Steam versions? I imagine you'd need to do some finagling for that to happen.
Some new games came out today. Snuggle Truck? Looks like Trials HD with stuffed animals.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/111100/
Snuggle Truck came out last year on pc and iOS. It got quite a bit of press because it was originally called smuggle truck and didn't get through the iOS approval process so they changed it to Snuggle Truck and replaced the image ants with stuffed animals. The pc versions as far as i know have an option to change it to the original title/immigrants.

I remember reading a cool interview from the developer before the controversy. Basically he was trying to help a friend come to the states and found the process insanely difficult. As a result him and his friend made a facetious game out of the concept. If you didn't know the history it might be quite offensive.

As far as gameplay it's simple but fun. Not quite trials as you have to balance speed with also keeping animals/imagrants in your truck and catching born babies for a bonus. It's probably better suited for iOS.

Steam has Dirt 2 for $4.99 as the daily deal

If anybody wants Medal of Honor Origin key, Orcs Must Die Steam key, or DNF Steam key, I would trade any of them for Dirt 2 gift. PM me if interested :)
Steam has Dirt 2 for $4.99 as the daily deal
Get Dirt 2 or wait for Dirt 3..... Anyone got an opinion are if Dirt 3 is worth waiting for (also I have a 33% off code for Codemasters that I would be using right now too).

Any lovely people out there have one of the shiny THQ steam coupons that isn't going to use them. I'll be your friend forever and I have candy. Yeah and I have stuff to trade too.

I would definitely get DiRT 3 if it's an option. It's much better than DiRT 2. The 2nd game is still fantastic, but the 3rd just does everything better in my opinion. I've played pretty much every Codemasters racing game and DiRT 3 is my favorite so far.

Yeah, DiRT 2 is an easy buy for that price.

Also bummed about owning everything in that Indie Gala (other than Bunch of Heroes, which I purposefully avoided during the Winter Sale).

ur not missing out. Bunch of Heroes is garbage. I played it for the winter achievement. If they just added health drops to the survival mode, it would actually be fun. Instead, if someone dies, everyone has to run around kiting the last enemy in the wave until you respawn. Also, everytime you die, the respawn time increases by 5 minutes I think. If they just made the respawn time static and added health drops, it would be enjoyable. The single player mode was pretty boring for me after 15 minutes.

Shatter for $3.39 today.

It was in an indie pack (not bundle) a few years ago. Solid Breakout-type game.
Shatter is indeed a pretty fun Breakout style game. There are nice touches to the game and some neat mechanics that put it over other similar games. The presentation is actually clean, and I don't remember it ever trying to be "Particle Physics Vomit(tm)".

Recommended.

Chalk up another recommendation for Shatter. It's a good game although there isn't much content. If you like striving for high scores then disregard the previous sentence.

Shatter is awesome. I absolutely love the presentation and I dig the soundtrack by Module even more. Great game, well worth the current price.

If I may, I'd like to endorse Shatter, as well. It's a solid breakout game with nice visuals and music. In addition, the interface fully supports a 360 controller, making the experience that much better.

It has been cheaper in the past, but it's still a good deal at $3.39.
Sanctum is today's deal at 66% off ($3.39)

I'm sure most people already have it from Indie Royale.
Hmm, looks like no DLC on sale though. I was hoping it would be since I believe there is some that wasn't provided with the Indie Royale. IIRC they gave 3 DLC?
Sanctum was a crappy depressing movie ... not sure how the totally unrelated game that's mentioned here is ;)
Eh, sounds about right to me. Not sure what all the Sanctum love is - I played it for the winter sale, and was NOT impressed. It's not horrible, it's just not great, especially with the plethora of other fantastic tower defense games out there. Felt very sluggish and overly complicated to me.

However, that being said, the soundtrack is amazing, and worth $7.47 on it's own. So if you're going to buy it, buy it for the soundtrack.

The only thing I really wish Sanctum had was some sort of persistence. I like it way more than Dungeon Defenders, but I can get way more playtime out of DD compared to Sanctum and when I play it I feel like what I did previously is helping in the future. Beating a level in Sanctum doesn't have the same feel as leveling up.

And while I hate leveling systems in shooters I feel like they fit in perfectly with tower defense games.

And this doesn't just stop at leveling. Because while Defense Grid didn't have leveling they also didn't give you every tower from the get go like Sanctum does.

Wasn't impressed by Sanctum, either. And although Dungeon Defenders isn't without its share of flaws, I agree it is the superior game. While both developers nickel and dime you with DLC at least Dungeon Defenders provides more value for your money. Sanctum is just... dull... not a lot of content, boring enemies, boring guns... think I only played it four hours tops.

I love Sanctum. Got it in the Indie Royale launch bundle but didn't play it until the winter event, then continued playing it after the event was through. At the time, I thought that the bundle had provided all of the DLC, but it had only included three extra items. There are, it appears, four additional levels available as DLC.

I've been waiting for it to go on sale, but as already mentioned, the DLC isn't. Still, for $7.47, I'd be saving a half a dollar off full price for those four levels and getting the soundtrack with it. Might be worth it just to be able to play it now.

Never tried the multiplayer, which I understand to be co-op. I generally play single-player games., but co-op games do interest me.
They discount the full collection package that includes the DLC but not the DLC individually... heh.
That's pretty slimy, especially with the number of times it's been on-sale as well as part of a Indie bundle.

I like Sanctum quite a bit. I picked it up during the last Summer Sale and put a fair amount of time into it off and on. I find it much more enjoyable than Dungeon Defenders (I can't get into this game at all and find it rather blah)

My beef with Sanctum is that I often run into domineering d-bags who insist you must play the game exactly the way they want you to play or you'll be chided and kicked.

Other than that I think it's pretty solid. I like the 360 controller support, too.

That can be a complaint against any pug matches in any game. Of course the level douchebaggery does vary game from game.

I'm glad Sanctum went on sale. I bought the $7.47 pack right off! I remember saying "*sigh* Will this game ever go on sale?" and poof! =) I'm atheist, so I can't thank any deity so I guess imma thank Steam for reading my thoughts. Yeah =D

I have no doubt in my mind that there is a steam god in some religion.

Oh, so like Left 4 Dead.

How dare I not use exploits that make the game boring as hell, standing in the spot of broken geometry where the zombies can't get you.

Went ahead and bought Sanctum Collection to complete my set. I'm confident I'll get another seven and a half bucks' worth of enjoyment out of the extra levels and soundtrack.

In other news, I'm really liking Sonic Generations. I'm going to have to keep tackling challenges until I've unlocked all of the music. I love what they did with the City Escape level -- the truck portion was great in Sonic Adventure 2, and in this one they used it very well for the 2D level (weaving in and out of the background) and made it absolutely ridiculous in the 3D.

I can't tell if you were joking or using subtle sarcasm, but this is the forth time that Sanctum has been on sale in the past 4 months. It's in danger of supplanting Magika as the most frequently on-sale item on Steam.

I'm not complaining though. It's repeat offerings as the deal of the day/free weekend have allowed me to pick up all the DLC (save the soundtrack) for bargain basement prices.
