Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I myself loved the gameplay of Deus Ex HR and the DLC, but found the story itself "meh". I was fine with the graphics because the art direction is great, but found the repetitive character movements during conversations quite annoying.
You mean all the women in your life don't do that shoulder-shrugging thing for emphasis? That bugged the shit out of me too.

I had much less a problem with the DXHR boss fights than the immersion-shattering, "hey don't mind me stacking ubiquitous cardboard boxes in front of your police station security cameras while I hack your office keypads".

datsed, I got past it and I loved the crap out of the game, all 100% chvs of it, and the fabulous DLC, too.

Started playing Mirror's Edge. For those on the fence, just bite. The experience is, so far, singularly unique. The intensity of the gameplay is only amplified as you progress deeper into the game.

Here is my list of coupons (and SMC) that I will not be using. I do not care to trade really just throw me a PM if you want one!

*edit*

That was fast! I got quite a few PMs as soon as I put this up. I no longer have the Black Ops coupon or the Witcher one and I only have one Super MNC remaining. Everything else is still free game though!

Also I would like to bring positive light to SuNaSuN, I gladly gave away my BO coupon and Super MNC invite and expected nothing in return. I merely mentioned not needing any coupons due to lack of funds, funds that could not even nab Deus Ex at $10 and without even hesitating I was greeted with a gift copy of that game. Completely unexpected but so very appreciated. I just wanted to make note of this generous act!

I have never made a blog before but felt the need to tonight, I wanted to share some stuff with the community.

Take a look if you have a moment!

Played Payday: The Heist last night and had a blast with it, and that was on single player. Looking forward to giving it a whirl with co-op tonight.

I think the best description I've seen was "Left 4 Dead with cops & robbers", which gives you an idea. It's a bit more of a setting, than a journey from point A to point B (as L4D is), in that you're constantly moving around the same building, but that gives you the definite feel of being under siege.

At $5 from Amazon, this really is a no-brainer.

If you liked playing singleplayer, you'll love the multiplayer/co-op.
Singleplayer gets boring really fast imo, since you'll have to do everything by yourself there.

I've never played a Deathspank game before, so, all of the repetitiveness of this being the third game on basically the same engine aside, would anyone recommend this?
Hmm, any thoughts on it? The Roesha DLC is multiplayer only, right?
Not only that but it's local co-op only.

I'm still waiting for a sale where I can all three Deathspank games for around $7.50-$10. I don't even think the first two have been cheaper than $7.50 each. Neither of them are on steamgamesales.com so I don't know for sure.

If it was the first deathspank on sale I would buy it, but this 3rd one's lack of Ron Gilbert(I believe he only worked on the first 2) makes me not much care for it.

I played the original Death Spank and it was great for a light controller based hack/slash with adventure elements. I found it entertaining and funny at the time. I played the demo for the sequel and was really turned off by the fact that not only was it repetitive but I had to start my character all over from level 1 and the abilities seemed very similar with minor changes.

That being said I may pick this one up as its been a long enough time that it may not bother me.

You'll never see a package. The first two were published by EA. Just like there has never been a Stalker 3-pack as Clear Skies was published by a different publisher.

I thought this for a long time but Stalker got a three pack last winter. :)

I don't remember that but I'll take your word for it and stand corrected.

Actually I stand corrected. I looked it up. It was on sale the same day and under the same banner but it wasn't technically a "Bundle."

I agree. Mirror's Edge is a fine, fine game. It's something like an FPS, but also an environmental puzzler, a la Portal or Q.U.B.E. And stylish.

It's absolutely unique. I can't think of another game that pulled me into the environment in the same way. You get a queasy feeling from heights, and catch your breath when you barely make a jump. And when you miss a jump? You're rewarding with an increasing rush of loud wind in your ears as you pick up speed on your way to SPLAT!

I thought I'd have a heart attack in the level where you're dodging around with the subway cars. If you've played this game, you know exactly the part I'm talking about.

It was a little off-putting that the combat is very precise. You can't just run up on a guy and mash a "punch" button, like in most FPS games. This game gives you the ability to kick, punch, slide, and even grab their weapons off their body to use against them. You are grossly outgunned, so you have to use these tactics. I didn't like the combat at first, but once I got the hang of sliding to take their legs out, that became my signature move, and I had little trouble with the rest of the game's fighting. I played it with KBM and had no difficulty completing the game. The controls were fine.

But most of the game isn't about the fighting. It's about discovering a way to traverse a very difficult obstacle course, and giving you that sense of wonder and awe when you're standing high in the sky and enjoying the view.

Guess I should have posted this yesterday:roll:, but maybe some CAG will put it in their Wishlist and get it next time it's on sale.

Mirror's edge is great. However, for those of you that picked it up. I encourage you to play it without firing your gun. I found it MUCH more satisfying that way. I actually think they shouldn't have let you pick up guns at all.

Well, I wasn't expecting a bundle. Just for them to be on sale at the same time. I would grab the Baconing at this price, but I'd rather have the first two before I do.

Between Steam and Origin, it goes on sale enough times that the information would be useful.

I just wish it ran better on my machine...
Actually I stand corrected. I looked it up. It was on sale the same day and under the same banner but it wasn't technically a "Bundle."
Well, that's good to hear: I can safely buy Baconing at 75% knowing it won't be bundled! I'll just keep waiting on the EA published games to hit that 75% off target.

Understandable. I'm in the same boat. But I figure Baconing probably won't get much lower than $3.75. The two EA ones haven't received anything greater than a 50% off discount but here's hoping~

A couple of the levels are a bit more of a journey. There's great variety.

Do note that the difficulty balance is ridiculous. Bank and Panic Room are pretty standard, no surprises. But Heat Street and ESPECIALLY Green Bridge may as well be murderboxes. Heat Street is doable despite there being almost no break between assault waves but Green Bridge is absolutely relentless.

Not sure if this was mentioned already, but I just realized that the Serious Sam sale includes 66% off Serious Sam 2 bringing it to $3.40. ;)

INSTA-BUY!

Sort of on the fence about Deus Ex.

I enjoyed playing it on PS3 until my all stealth / hacking character ran right into the first boss. Like a hyperactive kid into a telephone pole.

I suppose I'll give it another try someday, and perhaps make my character a FPS action hero instead...

I switched the difficulty to easy before boss encounters and reverted to normal afterward. It's the best and quickest way to get it over with.
I enjoyed playing it on PS3 until my all stealth / hacking character ran right into the first boss.
I was the same way, but then I realized grenades/mines are extremely effective. Better yet, you can toss an EMP or two and chuck all the explosives in the room at him (probably don't need heavy lifting, can't remember). I never had to fire a shot even on the hardest difficulty.

You can easily get through the game even without focusing on combat skills, although armor augs definitely help. With most of the Praxis kits you can upgrade almost everything anyway, with the leftovers being useless (most stealth enhancers, eye augs, silent running/sprinting/jumping, typhoon if you're non-combat).

I played completely through twice and it was still great fun. I found the stealthy path more challenging and enjoyable.

So if anyone still has an active IGN Prime membership they are giving away keys for the Risen 2 beta on Steam now. Even if your membership expired it's worth checking into anyhow since their site is so borked half the time and some people with old memberships are reporting it let them grab one anyhow.

Boss fight sequences were made by a different company that made the rest of the game and quite honestly were awful and not fun. The game aside from the Boss Fights was amazing.
That Steam page is not the be all end all though. Ideally the store you are buying it from will give you this information but Amazon is really bad about doing that while Gamersgate gives a very obtuse "Requires 3rd party download" message.

In general, recent games from 2K, Bethesda and THQ will activate on Steam while others like EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Atari, etc will not. There are exceptions though.

You can always ask around and for Amazon I find checking the reviews helps since if a game does require Steam at least will person will complain about it in a review. :p
While the site may not offer as much information as we'd like, the Amazon PCDD thread conveniently lists which games that are on sale activate on Steam. Amazon is eating Gabe Newell's lunch - and that's a lot of lunch! - because they've camped a dedicated CR here at CAG to interface with the customers while Steam just sits complacent on their lead for the time being.

Yes I read your long anti-Steam and anti-Gabe Newell tirade in that thread.

While I think what Tony is doing in terms of direct communication is awesome and pretty much unprecedented among gaming stores online, I still think we should not have to rely on a thread or asking a rep or friends or Google search to determine what, if any, DRM is in a game. They need to get that situated. It's the second biggest criteria to determine whether or not I will buy a game after price.

The only boss I really fought in Deus Ex HR was the first one (used stun gun and the remote bomb that came with the DLC). The others were easily defeated using the Typhoon augmentation. Two shots of that and they were down. I used them to get on quickly with the game. Yes, I was playing stealth, but had enough Praxis points before the 2nd boss to try the Typhoon.
So if anyone still has an active IGN Prime membership they are giving away keys for the Risen 2 beta on Steam now. Even if your membership expired it's worth checking into anyhow since their site is so borked half the time and some people with old memberships are reporting it let them grab one anyhow.
I noticed last night that my account seems to be in effect even tho the trial should have expired more than a week ago. I registered for the gamersgate permanent 15% off when I realized, forgot to do that earlier.
Amazon is eating Gabe Newell's lunch - and that's a lot of lunch! - because they've camped a dedicated CR here at CAG to interface with the customers while Steam just sits complacent on their lead for the time being.
While I think what Tony is doing in terms of direct communication is awesome and pretty much unprecedented among gaming stores online, I still think we should not have to rely on a thread or asking a rep or friends or Google search to determine what, if any, DRM is in a game. They need to get that situated.
I agree with both of you. Big love for Amazon but they are ignoring the 800 lb gorilla in the room. (Steam, not Gabe.) They must think that if they so much as mention Steam on their site pages that people will roam over to Steam to price compare. Not sure why this would even be an issue when they're having killer sales like Trine for $1.25 and Payday for $5. When Amazon's sale prices are the best in the market, they should put the Steam info right on the game's front page because as soon as Amazon has the best price, Steam activation becomes an asset, not a competitor.
Daily Deal is And Yet It Moves for $2.50.

The worst games that I suffered for gifts ... so boring!

You realize there is no way to make Jensen suck at combat. The only combat related augs there are just reduce recoil and increase armor, which on any respectable difficulty still does not appreciably increase survivability against the boss.

Typhoon works as a cheap "Skip boss fights" button anyway. It's practically a "Make combat go away" tantrum button.

Not a huge fan of AYIM. I just ended up getting confused and rotating in all directions until I finally fell through that tiny opening I was supposed to get through. I played enough to get the winter achievement and uninstalled.

And that sound when you die...(shudder)
Is this thread so long it's glitching? I can't couldn't get to page 693...
That's because you're the first post on 693, or at least as far as I saw.
