Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.
I've been waiting for a deal on VtMB! Does anyone know if it will run on Windows 7?
It can run on Win 7 - with some tweaking, modding, and whatnot.

Good thread on Steam forums on how to get it running.

I did NOT try Official Patch 1.2 [Troika's last official patch] and see if that worked on Win 7.
So, if you want to go Vanilla, you might want to check Steam forums.

I have the 3-disc version from Retail, BTW.
I don't have the Steam version - but have read enough to see how you can work this patch w/ that Steam version, too.

So, here's what to do:

Step 1 - For disc version owners only
I installed VTM: Bloodlines first [obviously] - which comes w/ Version 1.0.
Then, I patched that version up to Official Version 1.2 w/ this patch for Retail version.

Step 1 - For Steam version owners only
Steam version comes patched-up already to Version 1.2 by default.
Once you got VTM:BL downloaded and everything from Steam, if you plan to use mods and unofficial stuff, make sure you disable auto-updates and in-game Steam community for this game.
That's just so Steam doesn't overwrite some of your modded files back w/ the game's Official Patch 1.2 files.
To disable auto-updates for a specific Steam-game, in your Games list, right-click on VTM: Bloodlines.
Left-click on Properties.
Uncheck "Enable In-Game Steam Community" to disable it.
Then, click on Updates tab.
Change box to "Do not automatically update this game."
Apply the changes.

Step 2 - Wesp's unofficial patch
Next, I downloaded and installed Wesp's unofficial patch 7.6B - so, yes this game will work w/ the unofficial patch on Win 7 64-bit.

Step 3 - Do you want higher-resolutions than what's given?
If yes, then you can use the Res Patcher in the Extras section of your game folder [which comes w/ Wesp or Tess's latest patches] so you can bump up high-res's - i.e. 1920x1080.
Make sure you give this program "Use As ADMIN" rights first, BTW.
Tell the program where the game's installed, so it can allow to do some re-writing to the file.
Select a resolution you want. :)

Step 4 - About opening vid-playing issues
As suggested by this post, I changed the shortcut on my desktop to look like the way this user had it, so opening vids actually would play for me:

No problem! :)

Great forums like some of those found on VTMB's Steam forums and Deus Ex's Steam forums helped me get some older games going - especially on Win 7.
It's only right if people want advice, got questions and help, to try and point them in the right direction and share. :)

I can't get VtM:B to work. I've downloaded the unofficial patch 7.6b and followed the steps. Depending on what I've tried I either get a "failed to find steam" message or "available memory less than 15mb!!! -1" message. Starting to get really frustrated : /

*Edit* I have Windows 7 64-bit.

*Edit 2* I think I may have finally gotten it working. Re-installed the patch completely and this time saved it into a completely different folder then manually copied and pasted it into the steam folder.

Did you disable the Steam in-game community and disable auto-updates for VTMB?
If you didn't, it's been said that Steam will force Official Patch 1.2 back onto you.

Also - did you install Wesp's patch into the game's Steam folder directory?
It should be installed somewhere like this - "...program files\steam\steamapp\common\vampire the masquerade bloodlines"

For that specific memory error on Win 7 - go and look here.
Usually, you only get that memory error w/ Official Patch 1.2, since Wesp's and Tess's newest unofficial patches fix this error.

EDIT:
If you really want to get game w/ Official Patch 1.2 going [which is what the Steam version come patched-up with] on Win 7, people on Steam forums have suggested to go here and get Version 1.2 fix.
I haven't tried it myself w/ my 3-disc retail version - but probably worth a shot, if you really want to go Vanilla on Win 7.

Hmm.. my backlog isn't going anywhere, but I'm still so tempted by VtMB's deal. =|...

And for those who haven't heard yet (or seen the thread, yet), Civ 5 is being offered for $11.98 over at GreenManGaming, which is a great price. Reason I'm bringing it up here is because it's a Steamworks game. Meaning: purchase anywhere and requires Steam to activate+play.

I'm using Wesp's unofficial patch. It still wasn't working earlier but I got it working now. The problem seemed to have been that I installed the patch directly into the vampire steam folder. I reinstalled the patch elsewhere and manually copied the files over and now it's working.
should the basic or plus patch of 7.6b be used?
Up to you.

Basic Patch - If you want the game w/ mostly bug-fixes, a few restorations, and not many game-altering changes - that's your ticket. This is the version that I use.

Plus Patch - If you want the game modded-up w/ ALSO cut-content restored, changes, additions, and anything else Wesp wanted to throw in there - this is the one you want.
No one answer the question, just on principle.
Now everyone has to because you said that

For me the demo wouldn't work so not trying the game lol

How drastic are the changes in the plus version? Also for those that have played through both the basic and plus versions how good are the additions/balance tweaks in the plus version? Is it so much better that you'd be a fool not to use it? Are they bad balance tweaks that actually take away from the game or are they mostly irrelevant either way?

Basically if you could only play the game with one or the other, which would you pick and why?

I'm having a very hard time deciding between the 2 unofficial patches and I predict if I pick Wesp's patch I'll have an even tougher time deciding between the plus and basic versions. Also between Tess's and Wesp's patches which one makes the game look better?

Good question.

I have normally used Wesp's patches, for most of my times w/ VTMBL, over the years.
Usually, I go for Basic Version.

I've heard people say Plus version has indeed made the game easier, for the most part.

I haven't tried Tess's patches in...YEARS.

You could go and look at the log notes on this patch for all Wesp's versions - though, they are QUITE extensive.
Thing he has for plus version in his patch are marked like this "+".
Holy crap, that might have sold me on it. Also, I daresay that was better than a lot of the GiantBomb quick looks I've watched recently.
Yea the Totalbiscuit WTF videos are quite good. He does a lot of indie stuff which is great.

The only problem I have with the series is that he pretty much likes everything, still he does a great job showing what the games are like.

For games that have problems running on newer machines, the demos often are not patched to work when the games themselves are. It's a common occurrence.

Worth mentioning as it's this weekend's free play game.

Thanks for all the patch info on V: TMB. For anyone that has this retail (which I think I do, just have to check and see if that's the case), is there a reason to get it on Steam besides the portability aspects of Steam?

Normally, I hate watching video reviews of games (especially when there're a pair of slackjaws who think their banter is witty) but those WTF vids actually held my interest. Thanks for posting 'em.

Even used copies of this game go for a decent penny. I have a sealed copy I think I'll let go and just buy this for $5.

Stupid question...is VTMB fun? I'm not a big vampire guy, but I'm looking for a fun action RPG. Watching the videos hasn't really swayed me much lol.

Never had any remote interest in the game, but I bit on Vampire based on comments in this thread. Hope it's worth the hype.

I have no regrets at all about getting Bloodlines. I'm not a vampire guy at all, but it sure is fun and sucks you in. The first hour is kinda lame, I felt the opening to the story sucked really hard, but once they let you off to explore, it's pretty fun.

The game hasn't aged well AT ALL, but it is still a way fun game to play.

Some games these days seem to want to give you a long tutorial in the beginning to give you all the tools in the beginning and then send you on your merry way to explore - i.e. The Witcher: EE, Vampire: TM - Bloodlines, and Two Worlds 2.

Woo Hoo. PC just upgraded. Now I can my Steam all my games again (and any new game) and not just the Beat Hazard because that runs on anything.

I just need to download everything on a 125 kb/sec connection .

Also would love to hear impressions for EYE. Looks interesting.

I just played eye for a few hours, its fun, feels like warhammer 35 k, (just before 40k lol) It has a great cyberpunk feel, and I could see this as a future timeline for Deus Ex, I reccommend it, havent tried the multiplayer yet.

Awesome, bro thanks for the heads up. Looks like lowest price on Steam was $8.74.

There was a game like this with soldiers that, I read, was going to have GI Joe versions available. Does anyone know what game that is?

I know this is a longshot but does anyone have a copy of Capsized? I thought I purchased it a couple days ago when it was a daily but I guess I forgot. Thanks!
