Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Kind of glad I didn't pick up Anomaly: Warzone Earth when it was $5 back in the summer sale. Saved a whole $1.67!!

And for those who are interested, TotalBiscuit did a "WTF" video of the game, and it all seems positive (actually, his video was the reason I had my eyes on this game):

Anyone else have comments or thoughts on PoBC?
Broken right now in some places, people who must have this game right now or want to grab it now and wait for a patch or two should buy it, everyone else can wait

I might just wait for a sale on Pirates of the Burning Cove then. Looks pretty great from what I've read and YouTube'd, even despite the slower pace (which I don't mind).
That little word all is causing them some problems. Not all Paradox games are on sale... Mount and Blade for example...
No it's not. That little word "strategy" is saving them some troubles.

That's what I'm thinking. Game looks cool, and I love me some Pirate games but even with the freebie, I would rather wait for a sale.
Can anyone recommend a specific Paradox Strategy game? They all look almost the same to me...
Victoria 2, Europa 3 Chronicles, and the 2 fan made Hearts of Iron II games, Arsenal of Democracy or Darkest Hour. All of those are pretty good. Basically take your pick on which historical era you prefer.

Just tried the Anomaly demo and was surprised how long it was. Anyone know how much longer the full game is and whether progress is saved or I'll have to replay the whole beginning again? That's what I liked about Torchlight: After the hour of demo playtime, if you bought it, you picked up right where you left off.

haha Good job!!

As to which Paradox game - EU3 is awesome.

I like EU3 a lot. Picked up a while back. If any ends up purchasing please note that the Complete edition ($3.74) does NOT include the Divine Winds expansion, but the Chronicles edition ($7.50) does.
Is EU3 the best Paradox game of the bunch? Something else?
I believe it's the easiest one to get into, and it's pretty damn cheap, so I'd try it out.

Anomaly is indeed a very cool game. It really looks and sounds amazing and the reverse-TD gameplay is novel enough.

In for Naval Warfare. Despite the reviews, I love a shmup and I'm a sucker for a nice water effect.

Bother.

How long was the demo?
How long was the demo?
It was at least 45 minutes, I'd say. I think it ran thru the whole Baghdad campaign - 6 missions. I've played the first couple of the full game and it's significantly harder and I'm getting killed when in the demo I pretty much tap-danced through.

EDIT: It doesn't appear to be in the CAG game collection database. Can't add it.

Tried Champions online tonight. I mean as much as it does right, to me it still feels like a limited WoW clone but with super heroes. I have some friends who play it so I might stick with it but I am underwhelmed with the game.

Although it does do some cool things, it doesn't make me want to really play more. Although it is almost tempting me to buy Cataclysm since my PC can run it now, lol.

If it isn't getting stuck in your backlog I'd be grateful if you could let me know how the controls are in Navel Warfare. Every review says that the controls are a mess. If they aren't I'd love to get it. It's a beautiful looking game.

Anomaly's reverse TD angle looks entertaining, but I think I'm going to pass. My backlog is getting too big. Plus, I'm not very good at TD games and the waiting to see if my strategy worked kills my nerves. If my backlog is downsized by the time it goes on sale again I'll cop it.

^Anomaly offers a checkpoint system that I thought was pretty cool. As you progress through each part of a stage you automatically run past checkpoints. If you fail a mission you're just restarted at the last in-stage checkpoint.
Sadly, little reason to go with this now. The Humble Bundle 3 now includes the second bundle if you pay more than the current average. ($4.80) For $2.30 more you get. . . well, a lot more games than just Machinarium!
In addition, you'll also receive Steam and Desura keys to register your game with those services.

Hm. Someone had a non-Steam version of Braid installed on my computer some time ago. The completed game was uninstalled.

I thought it was completely deleted, but when I installed the Humble Indie Bundle version today, Steam found the old save states and unlocked all my achievements. Odd.

Quick someone redeem this on Steam! (Someone used it)
It's the Humble Bundle 2 games. Lemme know if you use it.

Tried it, but it was already activated. Guess somebody beat me to it. Thanks anyway.

Edit: just check the time of your post. 30 minutes before mine. Of course somebody beat me to it. lol

I checked out all my Humble Bundle past orders and I didn't know I have Trine. I'm glad I didn't buy it during the summer sale.

Personally, I love this game and I highly recommend it. The challenging puzzles. The atmosphere. The fact that 14 year old kids aren't schooling me in some online FPS.

I encourage anyone with even a passing interest in Machinarium to go buy Humble Indie Bundle #3 RIGHT NOW! (http://www.humblebundle.com)

Even if you're a real cheap ass and only spend the measly sum of $5.03 (the current minimum to get Bundle #2, too), you will find something in the bundle that you will love. A bunch of awesome games from awesome independent developers who are (figuratively) giving you the shirts off their backs to raise funds for an awesome cause.

Don't delay. Do it today!

(And to keep this ON topic: you'll get Steam keys, too).
Tried Anomaly demo and found it rather boring. Kinda sad since the game looks interesting.
Are you a tower defense fan?

I've enjoyed some tower defense games Jaysonguy. Didn't like defense grid or anomaly, liked sol survivor and a few flash tower defense games.

That's what I hate the most about the HIBs, comically impassioned pleas for a largely mediocre bundle that is wildly successful every time they run it and yet still pretends at being the underdog. Please keep that stuff in the HIB thread.

Even I couldn't stand watching every thread devolve into the penny argument.

I tried Osmos because I got the HIB and holy crap, I just spent 1.5 hours on that damn game today. The gameplay is so simple, but the whole ambient feel glued me to it. I would play more but if I did I would be up all night

STOP TALKING ABOUT GAMES YOU LIKE GRRR

Osmos did that to me to. It was the second time I played it that all the fun had evaporated and I forgot why I liked it.

There are rumblings about a big pack/bundle being available tomorrow for Quake Con. Apparently the proof comes from a bunch of TF2 promos items showing up in today's patch.

It should be most every major Bethesda/Id game on Steam atm. $39 price was talked about, but its uncertain whether that's for everything, or if there will be smaller packs.

I kind of expect a free weekend+discount for Brink myself, with new DLC being available + the exceptionally cool looking Sniper hood/mask for TF2.

Regardless, I'm a little miffed that I just bought the Doom pack during the Summer Sale. But with all the promo items and a low price point, I'm pretty excited.

Just an FYI about Anomaly: The demo is NOT just the first 6 missions of the game. I was playing just now and Mission #4 was new. Looks like they pulled a few out of the campaign, turned down the difficulty a notch, and made that the demo.

Jesus if that $39 price includes Oblivion, Fallout, Brink, Quake and Doom packs, this will be a hell of a sale.

I’m considering picking up Europa Universalis while it’s still 75% off on Steam. Problem is, I’m uncertain as to what version to buy.

If I buy Chronicles, I get everything in Complete, plus the expansions Heir to the Throne & Divine Wind for $7.50. However, according to at least one message on the EU boards on Steam, the two additional games (Heir to the Throne & Divine Wind) are actually stand-alone games, but Steam treats them as if they were DLC. That means, instead of being able to launch EU:C or HttT or DW individually, (as I would be able to do if I bought the games from almost every other store out there) I would be forced to launch Divine Wind (since that’s the latest) and play that. Supposedly, it would be impossible for me to play either of the two games before DW if I buy Chronicles. Is this correct?

This would lead me to lean towards buying Europa Universalis: Complete and then buy the later games after I’ve gotten my fill of gameplay out of EU:C. But according to several messages on the EU boards on steam, EU:C was apparently riddled with bugs. Apparently, those bugs where largely addresses by the two later games. Which doesn’t make a lot of sense, because if the two later games are stand-alones, how could they address the bugs in EU:C?

So What’s the deal? Are EU:C & HttT & DW distinctly different games? Or are the latter two entries actually DLC for EU:C? Should I do as one poster suggested and buy the games from another site besides Steam when they go on sale?
