Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Explain why you would expect for them to be included when they aren't even owned by this company.

My bad I thought Bethesda was Bethesda not Bethesda. Bethesda made all the Elder Scrolls games.

With respect to Fallout I would have hoped when they acquired the rights the first 2 came with them.

Being PC games I would have hoped they could be acquired on Steam even if they predate it. I guess not.

Please, don't ever do that again! I had to read it over and over and over again. It nearly made my head hurt.

Shame Quake IV isn't available for a separate purchase besides at its list price of $19.99.

I'd love to pick up the Quakecon pack, though picked up F3 during the Summer Sale and the Quake & Doom packs on previous sales as well. They should give you Q4 if you've previously bought the Quake pack, though that's obviously not the case.

Seems like any extra copies for the Quakecon pack aren't giftable, so if you own most of it, you'd be out those games as giftable copies.

Quakecon Pack 2011: According to our records, you already own one or more of the items included in this package on Steam. If purchasing for yourself, see the Extra Copies support article to determine whether the items you already own can be shared with friends.

i got this message when i added id pack to the cart because i own Fallout: NV. If you owbn games in the pack you can gift them to other people

That's the message that always comes up regardless of if you can gift the games or not. If you click through, you'll see that the extra copies are not giftable.

† Note: You already own the following items in "Quakecon Pack 2011". You will not receive extra copies of these items when you complete this purchase:

The main games I would want out of the pack are Brink, Doom 3 and Expansion, Fallout 3 GOTY, Fallout New Vegas and DLC, and Hunted: The Demon's Forge. If anyone wanted the rest in the pack and had copies of one or more of these, I could send Paypal. If you can even do that.

Morrowind GOTY + Oblivion GOTY = $14.99 today only

ignore this if it was posted in this thread already, i didn't see it
This isn't a sure thing.

Neither Bethesda nor Valve has announced that Skyrim will be a Steamworks game - it's possible that you'll have to choose between a retail copy and a Steam copy, just like Oblivion and Fallout 3. If it's not a Steamworks game, then activation on Steam is hit-or-miss, and Bethesda/Id games are usually "miss" in this regard. However, Fallout New Vegas was a Steamworks game, so there is good hope for Skyrim to be so, too.

That would be the best of both worlds - pre-order on Amazon to get the nice map, activate on Steam when your copy arrives. You'll just have to schedule something else to do between 11/11/11 (when it's released) and 11/11/14 (when your game actually arrives). That will be a looooong weekend! #-o :D
Release Date Delivery man!

I need Morrowind but not Oblivion. If anyone needs Oblivion and not Morrowind let's get the pack and split it yes?

If someone buys this pack I will for sure pay for Morrowind. I've been waiting a long time for this one. I have to run right now but I am in for sure!

Nope. Bethesda doesn't have the rights to Fallout 1&2. Interplay still owns them.
That's awesome. Thanks for the links. I haven't played TESII in years. Also explains why they are not included in the big bundle. Maybe the case is the same for Fallout I & II?
If only...They still sell the first two Fallouts. You can pick up the bundled package which has those and Tactics for like 15 or 20 bucks in retail stores still. Steam sells all three of the games separately for 10 a piece and then all three for 20. I'm sure it is a pretty safe bet that they will be on sale sunday if the rumored Fallout day is true.

You can't split the pack.

I'd be surprised since they aren't in the Quakecon pack.
fuck I guess my wait for Morrowind will continue.
Yeah, I missed out on Morrowind when it was $5, been waiting a year+ for them to put it at 75% off again. Absurd considering they'll be selling New Vegas for $10, too.

You don't get extra copies when you buy the Quakecon pack. Extra copies are a rarity on Steam nd only apply to Half Life 2 and when the promotion specifically states it -- which I'm fairly certain it doesn't for this promotion.
I dont suppose someone has a extra copy of cthuhlu because of the pack they would be willing to part with?
I'm pretty sure that extra copies from the pack are not giftable (as is the case 99% of the time, unless noted).

Ah, I was going by the first post, they noted that they were advised that they had extra games available.

Honestly I wouldn't. During the summer sale on the last day they only advertised Fallout 3 being on sale, but the pack with the original three was also on sale for I believe 5 bucks or so. That's the only reason I have the games now, because as much as I love Fallout, I wouldn't pay 20 bucks for three games that old.

Hey, I was completely away from the internet yesterday, and I was wondering what yesterday's day only deal was from QuakeCon. Skimmed the thread here and it seemed like there wasn't talk of one, but steam says there's a different sale each day. I'm just curious, I like to keep up to date on sales even if I don't buy anything.

Well, that was the Summer sale and this is a publisher specific sale and, as noted, the original Fallouts aren't Bethesda games.

Quake/Doom. I don't recall the prices off the top of my head but they were worse than the discounts during the Summer sale. So odds are that if you follow Steam sales regularly and wanted them you would have picked them up at the better deal before hand.

I'm almost certain you can't cancel preorders. Valve also has a way of retroactively removing hats if you aren't supposed to have them.

Caveat emptor
Can I pre-order Skyrim, get the TF2 hat, and then cancel my pre-order?
I'm going to say Valve does a very good job of stopping people stealing from them.

Go ahead and try to steal though, I'm sure at the very least it will be an interesting story

You actually can cancel preorders on Steam provided you do so before the release date. But, yes, I'm sure they have a way to remove things -- I know for a fact they removed the first two Dungeon Siege games from people's library if they canceled their DS3 preorders.

for anyone that has preordered skyrim and rage on steam (i'm gonna say the majority have not. this IS CHEAP ASS GAMER amirite?), i have heard that you can buy the quakecon pack as a gift for $40 as many times as you want. a few guys have stated that they have successfully gifted several copies on the steam forums.

example here: http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24129977&postcount=22

now, if any of you HAVE actually spent the money to be eligible for this discounted price, mind hooking a fellow CAGer up?
I love Twisted Pixel but I really despise The Maw.
I really don't get why everyone was so jazzed about The Maw in the summer sale. I can't comment on the full game but I played the demo, seemed like a very basic and somewhat tedious game, nothing terrible but not something I wanted to waste my time on with my backlog. A friend of mine bought it a couple of years back and thought it was just mediocre. Not too shabby looking though.

Looking for that discounted price as well.

I just pre-ordered Rage and Skyrim.
PM me if you'd be willing to pay $45 for the Quakecon Pack 2011.

Cool, looks like we got people who did in fact preorder -- highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't own more than a few of the games in the pack. Even at $45 the deal is insanely good. Personally I already have both of the modern Fallouts, played the Dooms, Wolfenstein and Hexen long ago with no real desire to play again, and pretty much just want Morrowind. But if you're a fan of Brink and Hunted and the truckload of older titles don't miss out.

Actually, for Hunted, Quake 4, RTCW, and the FNV DLC (How foolish was I to spend in the summer sale), I think I would dip for the $40 if someone who preordered wishes to PM me. I believe I can reimburse you via Paypal.

The place to buy Fallout 1 & 2 is GOG.com.

They're $6 each.

As with all GOG games, they use an optimized DOSbox to run on modern computers, plus a TON of freebies that you wouldn't get from Steam. Manual, Fallout Bible, Soundtrack, etc.

And no DRM, to boot.

Ugh, I really want the Quakecon pack, but I already have every single game except for Hunted, New Vegas, Quake 4 and Brink. Still the price is decent for those four but meh. If I could somehow gift away the other 20 or so games I would be all over it.

Honestly guys unless you have a intense desire for digital only content you can grab a fall out collection which is 1,2 and tactics for under 10$ thats what, on amazon as well I believe.
