Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Great point.

Another question I have been pondering....

What is the main reason we like these cheap non-mainstream games?
Is it because of their price?
Is it because they are NOT mainstream?
Is it because they give us a greater gaming experience?
For me, it's because I enter with little/no expectation. With games like Call of Duty XYZ or what have you, there's so much hype, that even when the game delivers, it's as expected. With a little indie game, it's pretty easy to exceed my expectations.

My personal opinion - Most of the time when I pick up one of these non-mainstream titles, I realize after about 15 hours, the polish on the mainstream game gives it a massive advantage.

For example: King Arthur - I enjoyed the game, until I finally realized that I liked the Total War series better. RPG and story aside, the core gameplay was not as good as Total War, and polish on Total War (graphics etc) was just better. So I stopped playing King Arthur and went back to Total War.

Another example: King's Bounty. Played that until I realized that I liked Heroes of Might and Magic or Age of Wonders better. Same thing - it made me want to go back and play Age of Wonders.

A 3rd example is Freedom Force - The better game is the Ultimate Alliance game.

I think the large draw of these smaller games is that they are NOT mainstream. But when mainstream is compared to the smaller games, mainstream wins...

Anyone else seeing 50% off of call of duty games and 33% off of black ops and another free weekend for its multiplayer? I hope thats not the only weekend deal or its a massive waste.

I wouldn't mind this, seeing I just bought Xenoblade, have Dead Island and Disgaea 4 coming on Tuesday (assuming BB has it).

I enjoy Call of Duty and tend to agree with this. I guess it's a tie-in with this weekend's CODXP event.

I'm picking up MW2 if anyone wants to get some games in with me on Steam. I've only played it on 360 (9th prestige when I stopped), so it should be interesting starting out on the PC for the first time. ;)

Last minute changed my mind and went for CoD4, which I played to death on Xbox but I figured I'd go with this one first. Still, hit me up if you wanna play 4.

Just wondering if any CAGs play COD: Black Ops and think it's worth $40. I have it for Xbox360 but I'm not really much of a console gamer so it mostly just collects dust :)

Just doesn't seem like that great of a special considering Amazon has the game for $49...

The one thing that killed me is the lack of a party system. A friend and I try to play together but always end up getting swapped to the other team. Gets old fast.

I would stick with the Xbox copy since you already paid for it.

IMO - The campaign is worth $10 or so the MP is worth about $5 or less. COD multiplayer is a massive suckfest. RUN SHOOT RUN SHOOT RUN SHOOT and repeat..............

Picking up CoD: World at War and War Chest, but I'll hold off on CoDBOps until they sell it for under $20. Waiting for the DD to show up before I buy the CoD titles.

Can anyone comment about the level of hackers in the Call of Duty series, is it really that abundant? Or is that just rumors and malarkey that all the (jokes aside) kids play just complain about; is it legitimately as populated with hackers as every other online multiplayer game and is the single player worth-while on any of them? Thanks for your comment in advance.

I'm installing CoD4 right now, so I'll let you know. I doubt there will be any problems with this one, mainly because it's a few years old. I'll probably end up getting MW2, but I'd like to know what the online situation is really like before buying as well. I've played all of them on Xbox though, and the single-player campaigns are fun as hell. Multiplayer is where CoD really shines though. Hopefully we can find out more about the online for PC.

I very much enjoy the single player campaigns in the COD series. Most are short 10 hours or less so its like a long good action movie! I would recommend everything on sale except Black OPs. Way to much for a PC game almost a year after release.

I've been waiting a while for the CoD: War Pack to go on sale and it finally has!

Finally going to pick it up now and maybe along with MW2 because I never got a chance to finish the single-player campaign.

I still remember the air strip sequence in CoD2. Man, I want to get that War Pack so bad just to play through all of the campaigns again. xD

$10 is still too steep for me. Thinking about the COD 1 & 2 package. Something's wrong with my laptop though.. I've been playing through games fine ever since I got it a few months ago, but just recently it shuts off about 5 minutes into play. Any suggestions? I'm pretty sure it's overheating but I'm not sure why it would be doing this out of nowhere when I've clearly played these games for a few hours at a rip.

to each their own i guess, black ops is a good game but is not for everyone, me on the other hand think that bad company is not even worth a penny, but lots of people say is awesome, black ops for me is worth the 40 bucks, short campaign but a good one nonetheless

I've played a good amount of MW2's multiplayer, and I haven't seen too much hacking. It definitely exists, and is annoying, but you can easily just back out of the match and go start another one.

The single player for CoD4 is absolutely fantastic and is one of my favorite FPS SP campaigns ever -- I love open-world and experimental stuff like Stalker, but for linear, heart-pounding cinematic scripted intensity, CoD4 is tops.

The first two CoDs were great, although dated now, of course. MW2 took a downturn from CoD4, but was okay. BLOPS and W@W were pretty good. But for SP, definitely check out CoD4 at least.

Now I have a question for those who also play MW2 online on the PC: should I pick up either of the map packs? Does any one still play them? Are they any good?
I know there was some discussion about Din's Curse earlier in the thread since it's in the same genre as Diablo and there's a deal on it (First I think I've ever seen) to get the main game 80% off ($4). The expansion is still $10 though:

Hey thanks for the update! I'm glad i waited. Thanks to you and MSI Magus for the tips on this game.

Do you have a laptop cooler for it? It's an Asus ROG right? If so then I would invest in a good laptop cooler since the components inside are beastly and need air.

If it continues to happen then you might have to do surgery or take it to someone local.
The gpu heatsink fan most likely just needs some of this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rlz=1C1PRFA_enUS417US417&q=arctic+silver&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=9882831931415987257&sa=X&ei=EDRgTq3PLMeugQev0cWPAQ&ved=0CFsQ8wIwBw

if you can bear the lag without the map packs, go ahead at the discount price. The new maps aren't the best but there not too bad, main draw is the remakes of some cod4 maps.
God dammit. Every time I buy a game early it goes on sale the next week....grrrrr.
Could you pick up some of the titles on my Steam Wishlist then?

I caved and bought Black Ops from D2D with the 15% off code and activated it on steam, so I got it for $34 instead of $40. I only wanted it for Zombies and gungame, but I figured it would be quite a while til blops went on sale again, so I bought it. I'm honestly not a huge fan of Call of Duty, but hopefully I'll have some fun with it.

If only the DLC was on sale for 50% off or less. A man can dream.

No worries, you're not the only one dreaming. But it'll go on sale pretty soon. It's been full price for a while (not including the bs 10-20% discount that's given during launch week).

For those of you interested in Sims, I know this is 2 pages back, but I'm still going to post it! Impulse (Gamestop) is running a sale on some Sims games here. Looks like a 50% off sale.

i think its crazy that they are still trying to sell that game even with a sale at $40. the new game is a couple months away.

Turns out I already had the DLC (was one of the prizes in the Summer Sale). Went ahead and bought the game. Just made sense.

I adore Delve Deeper. Clocked 31 hours on it, according to Steam. The added maps were the first thing I spent tickets upon during the Summer Sale.

I thought I would be turned off by the competitive nature of it (every match has you going up against at least one other team of dwarfs in addition to the environmental baddies), but I've enjoyed it in spite of that. It especially appeals to the collector in me as it keeps a list of all of the treasures you've looted, all of which are described hilariously.

It's not perfect. When the match ends, it's simply done, so you can't explore further or find out just what was in that box you didn't manage to cart to your base. I've had some music glitches when playing back-to-back matches, easily fixed by exiting the game if it's happening. There used to be a bug where monsters would try and fail to engage an NPC in combat, but I recall reading that a later patch fixed that.

I never tried head-to-head as I'm much more of a solo player, but it has that going for it as well. Additionally, it comes with its own editor so you can design and share your own levels.

I would say it's worth the extra quarter for the level bundle, though you could probably find similar ones created by other players. I never bothered to go looking for player created stages myself, though.

Just pre purchased Hard Reset. It looks like my kinda FPS. I know I should of waited for a sale but it's an indie developer, might as well throw them a couple of bucks.

I also just got my copy of Shogun 2 total war in. Now it wouldn't be bad but I haven't even got a chance to install Empire/Napoleon yet from the summer sale. So I haven't even played a total war game yet . Although the Shogun 2 deal was too good to pass up, plus I have a friend who bought it.

Okay, just played an hour of Delve Deeper and I'm pretty pleased. It's a turn-based mining/combat game with the premise of exploring mines. As the poster above mentions, you compete against other teams of dwarves (I just played against AI) and, of course, the monsters. You have a finite number of rounds to come up with the most loot and there are specific places you must go to cash in so there's definitely some strategy there.

I can definitely see this being a game I put quite a bit of time into.
You should try it real quick and give some impressions :)

I adore Delve Deeper. Clocked 31 hours on it, according to Steam. The added maps were the first thing I spent tickets upon during the Summer Sale...
See? I didn't need to play it. Only took an hour before someone poured on a healthy heaping of love. ;)

Wow Thank you all so very much for the responses. One reason I love CAG above all else is the community you all rock for responding and I appreciate everyone's input. I ended up buying 3 of the most recent 4 (COD 4:MW, COD W@W, and COD: MW2) ;Black Ops is still to high for my taste especially with the latest one coming out this November it should drop later and I can afford to wait. I look forward to all of them I would have bought the War Chest but the price seems too high for such old games, I realize the 4th one is pretty old by standards these days but I am doubtful with Activision they will approve a sale much less than $9.99 even on the winter sale and if that happens oh well, I can't imagine it would be any lower maybe $7.50? If so worst I'm out like $2.50 and I get to enjoy it now and save some cash for other games. Also guys if you want to save some cash www.direct2drive.com is selling COD: Modern Warfare 2 for $14.95 and use CHEAPASS15 for another 15% off making it $12.71 plus tax which makes it cheaper than Steam and the key works on it. Thanks guys again :D .
For those of you interested in Sims, I know this is 2 pages back, but I'm still going to post it! Impulse (Gamestop) is running a sale on some Sims games here. Looks like a 50% off sale.
Hey wow good catch there man good thing I read this thread you just saved me some serious cash on those Sims games thanks! :D

I finally bit on Avadon: The Black Fortress. I just couldn't stop thinking of the game since I played the demo. If you love turn-based RPGs, you really, really shouldn't miss this one.
