Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Not sure if its meant to brag or if its meant to delay TL2 further since they are obviously all big Diablo fans(they have joked in their forums that they would have had to delay the game if Diablo 3 came out first because they all would take time off to play D3).
haha that's pretty awesome. I wonder which Blizz really meant by that?

Weren't some of the TL2 staff previously key team members that worked on the Diablo series? Diablo 3 has been in development for so long that the Runic guys probably had a hand in getting it to where it is today.

Many of them worked on Diablo 1/2. I believe some of the guys who made Titan Quest and are now working on Grim Dawn were originally on D1/2 as well.

Yes, Torchlight was created primarily by Diablo dev veterans, but anything they might have put toward D3 would have been wrapped up in the previously scrapped Diablo 3 project. Blizzard devs are cool people, though. Sending keys to the Torchlight 2 team is something they would definitely do.

I never did finish Torchlight. I put in a lot of time between three characters, but then one of my permamorphed pets bugged out and reverted to original form, and I decided to move on to something else. Fantastic game, though. I do look forward to the sequel as a reason to play again.

Does anyone have any reviews for the Blinding of Issac. It's sitting there for $4.50 and I am half tempted to buy it but without no reviews of the game anywhere it is holding me back.

Thanks for some reason I must of spelled the game wrong when googling it, lol. I am gonna try it out while it's on sale. Randomly generated Zelda dungeons and loot = must play by me.

You're welcome, just trying to help out. ;) I would get it right now too, but I'm dead broke right now. Hopefully it'll stay on sale long enough haha...

Except they're not Zelda dungeons. There's no puzzles, no tricks, no inventory to speak of. Just powerups and bombs and a grotesque coat of retro for retro's sake lol edgy paint.

For $5 I guess you can't go wrong but I regret wasting time on this game. It's an unimpressive twin-stick shooter in a crowded genre and the elements it plucked from Roguelikes just don't mesh with what it's trying to do.

The mechanics aren't especially bad so much as they are boring, especially for a game coded in Flash... when I've played so many better free Flash actioners.

By the look of the trailer they have on Steam for the game, I can't help but agree. It looks terribly bland, the creatures look okay, but the game looks terribly bland. Based on its style though, it's a must-buy for me.

BoI has some fun gameplay that at $4 id say is a solid buy. However iv experienced quite a few bugs with the game so it makes me iffy on recommending it. Iv not heard anyone else complain about it, but personally its crashed on me a few times and it also wont let me skip the opening scene so every time I boot up the game I am forced to watch like a 5 min movie.

Game is buggy, has slowdowns, and will probably never have native controller support because it's a Flash game. You're not the only one having issues, there are plenty of complaints on the SPUF.

This was the developer's response to the overwhelming requests for controller support, in a menu called "controls" (quotations in-game, not added). Added in a patch, and needless to say pissed quite a few people off.
We match!
Valve discounted Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 when the DLC dropped.

Hopefully history will repeat itself.

try spacebar?

yeah i am not too impressed with issac either. not digging the feel or gameplay.

Bought Issac with the soundtrack. It's not bad but it's limited which I figured and I don't mind. This is a game I can say hey I want to play some Zelda without having to put time into a full on Zelda experience. I just wish it had some more polish to it.

Although I got the soundtrack which is worth a good $3 to me so I came off alright.
The Binding of Issac looks disturbing, icky, and blasphemous. I believe it's an easy pass for me.
Those sound like selling points :whistle2:s

Here are some un-selling points, it's poorly made in Flash. Which means it will randomly eat saves (Non-randomly if you use something to clear Flash saves from your machine automatically) and often get massive slowdown.

As much fun as the game is when it works, I wouldn't recommend it because of what a mess the goddamn thing is. I've gotten more rage trying to make the thing save progress properly (Progress being important to the game as it unlocks more content as you reach milestones/do certain things) than I have entertainment playing it.

That's what happens when your game is written by an art guy. Unfortunately, the game is missing the 'meat' of Team Meat, Tommy Refenes.

The Binding of Isaac is a decent buy at roughly $5:

I'd say if you liked Super Meatboy, you'll probably like this one.

Its in the category of old school game rehashed--nothing incredibly new, just well done, entertaining old-school game play for cheap.

However, warning--if you use betterPrivacy for firefox or frequently use CC Cleaner, you'll want to untoggle the flash saves, which are something along the lines of so.sol and lo.sol, but don't quote me on those...I've already lost a few unlocked chars + endboss clear, which was pretty disappointing.

Also a major ding--no native controller support. Almost passed on the game due to this, but you can use something called joy2key...still haven't managed to get this going though, as I just got the hang of keyboard play...

But those factors considered, I've played it through at least 5 hours or so, so given the time already invested, it's been a worthwhile personally, and I recommend it.

I've been playing Avadon even more lately and have put about 15 hours into the game so far. The game is really big. Even when you complete a sidequest, NPCs will tell you that if you come back later, they may have another quest for you.

Although at times it can be a little monotonous (what JRPG isn't?), the storyline keeps you engaged, and I enjoy the battle system. Achievements are a nice bonus, and I've scored several recently.
I just hope Skyrim isn't as big as Rage. I have both coming via disc because I got Skyrim with trade ins and Rage for $43 via newegg. Rage is a 25 gig preload, hopefully Skyrim isn't as bad.
Do you have the world's slowest connection or pay per megabyte or something? I'm not making fun; I just always hear you talking about being annoyed by big downloads. :) Just turn them on and go to bed, man! Although I guess if you're only pulling 100kbps, that would be pretty depressing. :/
I can't recall perfectly, but back when I preordered Civ V through D2D, I believe that the key was made available a few days prior to the game's release.
Well, if they don't have the key to me by the 9th or 10th, I could always cancel and buy it directly from Steam instead, I suppose, to ensure I can at least preload by the night of the 10th. But if it unlocks at 10 or 11pm or something Central time on the 10th, and I still don't have my key, I'll be sad. :( Wouldn't much care normally, but man, this is Skyrim! Probably should just cancel my D2D order and get it on Steam. The $6 or whatever I saved is not worth you folks having to listen to my constant stream of whine.

So Midweek madness is Portal 2, but its only at 50% off. Should I wait for the Winter sale and hope for a pre-sale price drop or higher percentage?

I'd get it, but then, $15 for Portal 2 is well worth it. Between the campaign and the co-op, plus the new DLC, I dont' think you'll be disappointed. I know I felt like it was worth the full $60 I paid for it (PS3 w/PC Version).

I would get it now. The price may be cheaper by a couple of bucks, but not enough to make it worth the wait. This isn't a run of the mill game that is worth playing the waiting game on. ;)

I disagree with the people saying Portal 2's worth 15$. I paid 15$ for my Steam copy a couple months ago by purchasing someone's PS3 code and it was a very meh ride. A couple decent puzzles, an okay storyline, and a couple new features, but the campaign got boring pretty fast to me and I was only playing for the cut-scenes after a few hours. I'd say unless you have no other games to play, wait till later.

Hey, at this point more and more ISPs are putting caps in. All these streaming/downloading stuff's going to fall on it's face pretty fast if it keeps up.

I paid 60 for it and I wasn't the least bit disappointed but I was a big portal fan.

The real question you need to ask yourself is "are you going to play it now?" If yes then go for it. If no then wait.

Daily Deal 75% OFF
Crysis 7.49$
Crysis Warhead 4.99$
Crysis + Crysis Warhead Bundle 9.99$

Same time with PSN's release of Crysis for 19.99$, with 3D Support, no info if with platinum or not, and no info if with Multiplayer or not.

Crysis is priced at £2.49 for UK users, for what it's worth. That's a saving to pretty much everybody.
Warhead is priced at £4.24, which isn't a great price.
The pack overall is priced at £6.24, and I've no idea whether that's good value or not :)

If you want helping out with any of the above, please send me a PM (the Crysis price looks particularly handy). You've got around 5 hours to get back to me as I won't be able to do anything while at work tomorrow.

Ta!

Flow

p.s. Portal 2 was my best gaming experience this year, if a little short. Worth it if you like/love/adore Portal, the storyline was fantastic.

Unless you are going to play Portal 2 right away, I'd suggest holding off. I am pretty confident that P2 will be a daily deal during the holiday sale and be 75% off ($7.50). Worse case, it is the same price as now.

That's just it: It will always be cheaper down the road, and I've got plenty of games to play until it hits a price I'm comfortable with. At this point, anything over $5 needs to deliver a bonus direct to my groin for me to purchase it.

What a weak day for me, I own Crysis + Warhead, and Portal 2. Plus Newegg is fucking around with my Rage copy. Apparently it shipped yesterday at 8 AM but it has not reached the first UPS point yet, it just says Billing Info Received. When I go to UPS.com it says we have a label ready, waiting for product from Newegg.

I hope it did not get lost

I picked up the Portal 2 two-pack for $27.49 and saved a little extra.

My parsimonious nature prevented me from buying this game at full price and it finally paid off.
What a weak day for me, I own Crysis + Warhead, and Portal 2. Plus Newegg is fucking around with my Rage copy. Game looks totally busted, just look at the SPUF Rage section. It looks bad, really bad.

Damn, one of the reviews I read mentioned the texture and pop-in issues but that's atrocious.

Man, Steam has really handed it to me in the past week alone!
Alpha Protocol
Company of Heroes Gold
Rome: Total War Alexander
Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms
Humble Indie Bundle
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum
Crysis Complete

Sad thing is all I have time to play is the Battlefield 3 beta...and that's FREE!!
