Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I swear though, NOBODY notices the games I praise. :p
It's difficult to be critical so often without stepping on some toes. There's not a whole lot of discussion to be had when two people have the same opinion on a particular game.

We stopped listening when you wouldn't shut up about Jamestown. ;)

Only another month and a half or so and we get another big steam sale ;) More importantly hopefully Torchlight 2 will be announced by then ;)
Also, it seems like people who already own it can buy the game at that same upgrade price for gifting purposes. That's 73% off the total cost of the game plus DLC.
From your response, I'm reading that as someone can buy the upgrade and get the whole game? If so, someone should let me know! I'd buy.

I'm not ready for another Steam sale. It's kinda scary how many games I have yet to play. But at least the gap between the Holiday sale and summer sale is much longer. I should have made more of a dent by then.

But likely like the rest of you, I play multiplatform. My gaming is largely divided between Steam and my 3DS. And I just started playing Pokemon Black. What a time-sucker.
guess it's about time I tried fate of the world. form the summer sale to see if I want to upgrade it.
Let us know! I've had it on my wishlist for a while, and I may get it in the winter sale.

This isn't really a deal but thought I'd share it in here, Rage is up for preload on Steam right now. It's a 25GB download so get those modems prepared accordingly!

There is gaming to be had on the 3DS? ;)
If you've been eyeing this game at all, I'd say today is the day to buy it. The last time I recall RCT3 go on sale was the Winter Sale of '09 and the Summer Sale of '10; again, it was for the same price reduction. I doubt it will go any cheaper either.

Alternatively, GOG.com has RCT1 Gold and RCT2 Gold (both includes all expansions) for $5.99 and $9.99 respectively.

It was very nostalgic to be able to play these games fully optimized for Windows 7 (RC1 was my first PC game).
I've had Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 platinum in my wishlist for a while now, and this is the first time I've seen it on sale. Even during the big sales when almost everything is on sale it doesn't get a discount or daily deal. So not the best price, but I wouldn't expect another sale for a while. The MSRP is still $29.99 so it seems like a forgotten game. I played a ton of Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 back in the day.
Well, you know, I have a 3DS. And I pretty much only play DS games on it. :p
Same here. Although I did enjoy Dead or Alive on it, but I have no reason to replay Dead or Alive unless I want to collect more statues, lol.

Truthfully I am not ready for another Steam Sale, but well I am always excited for one, lol.

I am also not ready for next month where I have Skyrim, Saints Row 3, and Zelda. Three games that can easily eat up 50+ hours of my time, hit in the period of 9 days.

I bought my 3DS just cause I wanted the ambassador program games. I've only been playing DS games on it anyway, so the thing hasn't been too impressive yet. So far nothing game-wise has convinced me they are must buys yet, but that day shall come...hopefully before I think about buying a Vita lol.

Unfortunately for me, because the DS has been my main gaming platform for years, I have played almost everything worth playing. I don't think there's even 15 DS games left for me that I'm interested in.

There's only a few 3DS games I'm interested in. Luckily, Nintendo is getting ready to pump some gems out, but I'm worried about third party support.

I know what you mean. Although I have a 3DS and enjoy its capabilities, I have nearly zero interest in 3D games anymore. I don't like the slight disorientation I feel. All I want is a more powerful DS, which it is. Unfortunately, the games worth playing are DS original games, for the most part.

The recent Avadon sale has me going back into my game. I enjoy it, but there's some definite tedium at times. Getting to a new area means you'll be talking to a LOT of people, roaming around, entering all the buildings, seeking concealed items. The dialogue is good, although eventually it starts to all feel the same, as though one person is speaking throughout the whole story.

Still, I'm a sucker for turn-based RPGs. I enjoy combat and all the abilities of the different characters. I enjoy discovering every little nook of a map. The game is filled with sidequests which definitely pad playtime. Although the inventory system is a little unkind and makes it difficult to get sell items you find except in few, specific locations, it's not too bad, what with three party members with you most of the time.

Anyhow, if you like these sort of games, you'll likely like Avadon. The game is a little daunting in size, as I tend to prefer games less than 20 hours. Considering my party is all level 8 and I'm about 12 hours into the game and that there's an achievement for getting your party to level 30...I'm not sure I'll ever see the end of the game. Or perhaps, I'll simply never see an end to all the sidequests.

I was interested till I saw a youtube video of it. It looks way too 90's for my taste. It looks like it contorls and has a UI from the 90s too. I had to pass. Too many games I still need to play to be buying games I'm so-so on.

Sent Utop a message in case a mod cleans up all the off topic. But still want to ask here for mass opinions. You guys find that DS games look good on the 3DS? I thought in general DS games looked like ass on the 3DS? Like they are stretched funny or have a weird hazz/glitch or something in the visuals.

DS games used to look like total crap. I got a 3DS at launch, and I remember putting Pokemon Black in it and being turned off by how the game looked.

When there was that 3DS update to enable DSiWare transfers, they fixed DS games to look better. There's no longer the fuzzyish look.

Still, they are stretched a bit on 3DS. Personally, I use my 3DS exclusively, even for DS games. Although I have a DSi in the next room, I'm perfectly happy playing DS games on 3DS. The slight stretching doesn't bother me.

I feel the same way. I had a DS since the launch and well I have played every game just about on the DS that I want to play. I probably could not name 10 games that I would want to play (unless they hit the $5 mark where it's a no brainer).

Plus yeah I really hope third party support on the 3DS ramps up because as it is, I am not seeing anything besides Square Enix that really interests me.
If someone didn't have a handheld would you suggest getting a 3DS or a DSi XL?
3DS, because it's $170 now and the DSi XL is a good system but having the ability to play 3DS games is pretty cool.

To stay on topic, I am kinda annoyed when it says Steam requires x amount of space to install a game which is fine and then you literally have to download double that, to play the game. I saw that Blood Bowl takes up 1.7 gigs and I am like great that's an afternoon of downloading. When I check again it's over 3.5 gigs I have to download, lol. Oh well.
If someone didn't have a handheld would you suggest getting a 3DS or a DSi XL?
DSi XL
The 3DS is garbage that is selling poorly, most users don't want 3D, the only software worth playing is DS software, it's got small screens, and Nintendo is already making an add on that adds a second thumb stick.

The 3DS is a failed device, just grab the best version of the DS and wait for the next handheld that replaces the 3DS failure

I couldn't disagree more. Buying a DSiXL at this point rather than an 3DS would be rather foolish. The 3DS does everything the XL does while granting access to more games, both physical and downloaded. It includes several more features including easier connectivity with other users and a wider range of built-in software. Before long, the focus will shift entirely away from DS software in favor of 3DS.

If you're concerned about the thumbstick peripheral and think they haven't perfected it yet, just hold out for the next model of the system rather than shelling out for what's already outdated. That is, unless someone starts clearing XL's out at a price point that has you actually saving significantly.

I don't own either, the last handheld I had was a Gameboy Advance, but for what it's worth, I'd say go with the 3DS or wait for the next handheld Nintendo throws out, shouldn't be long. 3DS means 3DS games, while if you buy the DSi XL you're essentially buying a PS2 instead of a PS3. Although that's a rather extreme analogy, but you'd want to go with the most recent system as you get access to more.

At this point, I'd recommend waiting until the 3DS /with integrated thumb stick/ comes out.

They may even introduce a 3DS Thumbstick Neo XL Gold Zelda Limited Edition version. I joke. I kid...

... a little.

This. Within the year I guarantee that there is a new 3DS with a better screen and a second nub on it. If you HAVE to get one id say try getting an XL for around $90. If you have never owned a DS anyways there are a good solid 100 really awesome games you can pick up easily. I know my DS collection was up to 150 at one point in time and I felt 80% of those games were really high quality and even the other 20% was just ok not bad.

While I am NOT a fan of Diablo 3 being "always online" [since D1 and D2 could be played offline], I do hope BOTH Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 do succeed.

Anyway, speaking of Skyrim, D2D has it for $54. Would I get the Steam key right away, or not until release? I can download fast (I feel sorry for you people with the slow connections--a whole afternoon for 1.7GB? sheesh), but I want to be able to PRELOAD this game and will buy it for full-price on Steam if I must. You'd think Steam could at least give it a 10% discount. :/

I pre-ordered Space Marine from them and I got the key right then. It was also after the preload for space marine had started so I would say you'd be good in that regard.

Had they done a Runaway pack for $10 (or the Pendulo pack for $15), they would have had me. As it is now, I've got too many adventure games sitting in my library to buy one by itself when I want all of them and would have to hope for sales on the rest.

Also: I started playing The Whispered World the other night. Beautiful game, but why couldn't they make it widescreen with a higher resolution?

Its a pretty decent point and click adventure game. Its not quite as good as the first runaway, but I enjoyed it. Took me about 12-15 hours, but I got stuck several times and didnt use a guide. I would recommend playing them in order though...

It's grey market since you're buying out of region keys that unlock worldwide. The sites are legit, but people around here don't like them, and there have been a couple of instances (Orange box, MW2) where Valve has cracked down.

I posted about a similar site a week or two back, looks like my post was deleted as well. I guess these aren't allowed here.

Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 will probably both do fine since Torchlight 2 isnt going to be a 60$ game like Diablo 3. I think I read somewhere that Torchlight 2 was going to be $20. Also there are people that probably wont be able to run Diablo 3 on their computers. For those people, T2 would be a better buy.

I wont be purchasing D3 because of the always on DRM and the real money auction house crap. I'm one of what seems to be a few people that played the Diablo series mainly as a single player experience, only did a little multiplayer.

I'll grab T2 though, not sure if I'll grab it at launch or not, but at $20 I wont worry about having to wait for a sale, just depends on what I'm playing at the time and if I'm in the mood for that type of game.

Blizzard makes games that can run off of a cow pattie with positive and negative ends of a car battery shoved in it. If by some weird turn of events that a computer cannot run Diablo 3... then I'd wager that they likely won't be able to run Torchlight 2. Simply because of how widely available Blizzard makes their games.
Did my post about www.intkeys.com get deleted? It's a key reseller site, and I was only asking if people have used it before for Steam games. It shouldn't be anything illegal.
I am NOT a fan of these sites, saying that outright, but I'm also not a big fan of censorship. My comment about the sites (which was negative and cautionary) got deleted, as did an off-hand comment about the 3DS. That's fine I guess, I mean we're supposed to stay on-topic and all. Maybe this will get deleted too. :) But fear of the name only increases fear of the thing. Or something like that.

I personally knew nothing about these key sites. If it didn't get censored every time it was brought up, maybe I'd have known that they were shady. Luckily I did not make a purchase or anything. I have no desire to potentially violate my Steam contract.
I pre-ordered Space Marine from them and I got the key right then. It was also after the preload for space marine had started so I would say you'd be good in that regard.
Anyway, thanks! I will go ahead and pre-order Skyrim from them right now! It'll be really fun to enter the key into Steam immediately and then set about waiting for the preload. :) yayaaayayyyyyyyy Ever since Daggerfall, I've always gotten irrationally excited about any Elder Scrolls releases.

Aw man, kind of upset at D2D. I used Paypal, and they didn't give me the option to switch to my credit card, just took it right out of my checking. No big deal, but sheesh. And after I made the Skyrim pre-order, I realised they weren't going to give me the activation key yet either. So there might not be any pre-loading for me. Alas. Normally I wouldn't mind, as I saved some money, but this is Skyrim we're talking about here.

I just hope Skyrim isn't as big as Rage. I have both coming via disc because I got Skyrim with trade ins and Rage for $43 via newegg. Rage is a 25 gig preload, hopefully Skyrim isn't as bad.

Rage: you're going to need a bigger boat.

Just to let you know, yes, Torchlight 2 will be $20 a copy.

I can't recall perfectly, but back when I preordered Civ V through D2D, I believe that the key was made available a few days prior to the game's release.

Torchlight 2 is also going to be out at least 4 months before Diablo 3 and possibly as much as 6-8 months before Diablo 3. Diablo 3 is set for spring, TL2 is due out by year end. There is also the rumored release date of late October that one German site posted, but again thats just a rumored date and the only thing Runic themselves have said is "it will release before year end".

On a more funny Diablo 3 vs TL2 note, the guys at Runic commented in their forums that the guys over at Blizzard sent beta invites to all the members of Runic. Not sure if its meant to brag or if its meant to delay TL2 further since they are obviously all big Diablo fans(they have joked in their forums that they would have had to delay the game if Diablo 3 came out first because they all would take time off to play D3).

I'm actually interested in this one, but that still sounds too high to me for a (base) game released in 2004.
Damn. Totally missed this. Would have bought it just so I can have it in steam so my kids don't keep leaving the disks laying around.
