Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Looks like DS3 dropping like crazy. Not surprised.
As much as I'm a football/Warhammer fan, not sure about Blood Bowl.
i'm in the same boat re: blood bowl. love football & warhammer, just not sure i'd play it enough to justify $8.

Dungeon Siege 3 suffers from the same problem a lot of today's PC games do, the fact that it was designed for console first and then ported (back) to PC. There's other issues going against it as well but that was the biggest problem.

I picked up The Binding of Isaac and so far I'm not really impressed. For a game that feels like it should control perfectly with a controller, not having native support is disappointing. The game, for how simple it is, should also not be lagging on my system. (3.2 GHz Phenom quad, GTX275, 8GB RAM) Also hearing reports of people who are having their progress not save after closing.

Wouldn't expect anything else from a game by half of Team Meat, tbh.
Thinking about Blood Bowl, I mean it is 80% off, which is a HUGE discount, but it somehow seems overpriced at $40 to start with (or maybe that is just me)

Will wait for more opinions before deciding for sure....
For anyone who's on the fence about Blood Bowl: The retail disc was one of the $4.99 NEW titles at GameStop that you could get for free with that credit glitch in January/February of this year. I still haven't opened mine. That should give you some indication as to how good it is.

I've been having a blast with the game so far with no issues whatsoever (OC Phenom X4 3.8 ghz, crossfire ati 4890s, 8gb ddr2). I do agree with having no native controller support sucks but I've been doing fine with a keyboard.

That was probably for the Dark Elves edition that came out like 2 years ago. The newer Legendary edition that is on sale came out at the end of October last year.

There is sometimes little incentive to play something you got for nothing over something you payed a lot more for. Not to mention that you may get things for free that you're maybe not very interested in but got it anyway just because it was free.
And Starscape for today at 66% off for $3.40.

It looks interesting, but has anyone played it?
Starscape is a really solid game, I'd recommend it if you have the time to play it. It has an excellent balance of arcade shooter, rpg, and resource management elements. Its can be very addictive if you get hooked.

If you don't plan on playing it anytime soon though, I'd wait til the next sale. Its been in a couple of the $5-10 indie bundles.

My own take on a few recently mentioned games:

- Supreme Commander / Forged Alliance. An amazing RTS game. Don't mess around with one or the other of them... get the gold edition. SC and FA install on top of each other so all of the skirmish/mp SC content can be accessed from FA. Heed the system requirements because with 8 players and full armies it will bring lesser PCs to their knees. But... wait for a sale. These two are priced way higher than they should be. Not that they aren't great... they've just sold for a lot less.

- P.A.M. I had zero expectations for this. I bought it on a whim during the Summer Sale. I found myself actually enjoying the game as it's more or less Twisted Metal on off road racetracks. For cheap it's not a bad buy.

I was watching a stream last night where they were talking to the developers of the game. From my understanding, the slowdown when you have a ton of enemies on the screen is actually intentional to be reminiscent of old sprite games and also to make those parts not too difficult.
Rise of Immortals is now a Steam Free to Play game. It's a MOBA like League of Legends and DOTA.
Thanks. Also found your name amusing since I have a dog named Louie sitting under my feet right now ;)
Rise of Immortals is now a Steam Free to Play game. It's a MOBA like League of Legends and DOTA. There are exclusive items available if you register the game through Steam by October 6th.
Very cool. Going to download it while I play some Broken Sword. I'm a big fan of League of Legends, so I definitely want to give this a shot, especially with the Steam freebies.

Also, has anyone ever played Uplink or Darwinia? I was in the mood for a hacker style game and came across UpLink, but for the same price of Uplink ($9.99) you can get Uplink and Darwinia.

Achievements are less important than Steam Cloud support. Savegame cloud syncing is great. I can't go back into BCR PC with the knowledge of how mutable my savegames truly are.

If you dopes absolutely insist on Binding of Isaac, note that the mouse can click in the window to simulate the second stick until these dopes finally figure out controllers. I mean, geez, even the Reccetear guys were able to retrofit a Japanese game to manage that and these guys should have had prior experience but hell, let's just half-ass it worse than the big companies indie devs like to poke fun at. I think there's still the dopey auto-aim though so, while I haven't tested it, I don't think functionally you'll get better precision than you do with the arrow keys but it's an option. One they don't advertise.

Personally, in regards to Psychonauts, I'm FAR happier it seems they've fixed the controller issues the game had. It didn't properly support the 360 controller. Forums indicate they fixed it. I quit at a point that the controller issue was just too great.

Reinstalling now. :D
Also, has anyone ever played Uplink or Darwinia?
I have both, though my Darwinia is a boxed copy and I haven't yet played it. I played Uplink a while on an older laptop during vacation this year, and I got a kick out of it. The entire thing plays out through the game interface with no breaking the 4th wall, so with the proper mindset it can really suck you in. It's rather unforgiving in that way as well, so it might take a few tries to really get it going without boxing yourself into a corner. (Hint: don't delete the files you weren't hired to interact with or you won't be able to steal them for other clients later.)

I forget what I paid for it, but I'm not sure I'd put the full ten on it. Five or less and I'd greenlight it. Getting it with Darwinia for ten doesn't sound bad.
Psychonauts got an update on Steam today. Added achievements. I wonder if they fixed the controller issues?
Ooh, achievements? I have this on both PS2 and Steam but have yet to play it. Glad I waited now.

Your love does me no good when your married.....then again it does still feel all warm and fuzzy and nice....awww shucks.

I already started a thread for it, which I may or may not get flamed for, but has anyone heard of Play-SC.com? They're selling Steam keys for Skyrim for like $48 or so.

http://play-sc.com/The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-PC-Download-Steam-Key.html

Is this legit? Are there any drawbacks? I would cancel my $62 Amazon.com pre-order and get this instead. Beats the hell out of the $59.99 Steam wants for it. I don't need hats or a cloth map. I just want the damn game, and I don't want to wait until UPS delivers it either.

This was my reaction as well, minus the wife references. And i don't think my fiancee would get into the game if I tried to get her into it.

Try Professor layton. Lay in bed and play it every night for 30-60 mins before bed. Seriously Layton played as a couple = gateway drug for non gamers.

Fantastic, next time it goes on sale I will be picking it up then. Also probably going to grab Blood Bowl on Sunday. Not a fan of football but this is Warhammer, and is supposed to be more of a strategy game.

I can't find anything to officially confirm the controller issues have been fixed, only a hint in the Steam forums. I'm really, really busy the next couple days, so I doubt I'll have time to check my game file. Someone else should! :D

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to remove Steam achievements? My hubby played my Torchlight game, and I'd like to remove his achievement progress and earn the achievements myself.

I just confirmed for myself (and for all of you) that the controller is indeed fixed in Psychonauts! The right stick now rotates the camera, so you don't have to map that to other buttons.

I quit the game when I realized I had no more buttons to map things to (or buttons to map to that made sense for whatever I was doing).

But now, I'll be restarting my game with snazzy controls and achievements.

I wonder if this was the big Psychonauts news that Double fine said they had to announce. For those that dont know a month or two ago they regained the license to Psychonauts(it was not in their control at that time)and said they had big news relating to the series but specified it would NOT be a sequel announcement.
It wouldn't surprise me if they did a Psychonauts HD 360 thing, ala Beyond Good and Evil.
They already released Psychonauts on Xbox games on Demand or whatever, so that would be almost pointless. What they need is Psychonauts on PSN at this point.

Hmmm well a quick few minute play and the game worked well on my 360 controller. My wife said last time we tried playing it though the issue was more that whenever you started to get skills that the button maping was jacked for the new stuff. Hopefully as the powers unlock they fixed that problem too.

If anyone plays further in the next day or two let me know if the powers map properly to the 360 controller.

I actually had no trouble beating Psychonauts with WSAD+Mouse controls. It worked pretty well, except that I don't remember having a lot of fun with the lock-on aiming.

Argh... I had a hard copy of Psychonauts where I got all the collectibles and I remember it being a bitch. Well, my daughter hasn't finished it yet, so maybe I can just polish off what she doesn't. Compulsions aside, good news.

edit: also, "A man, a plan, a cat, a ham, a yak, a yam, a hat, a canal." Sorry, couldn't resist after Googling.

It's never on sale.
Au contraire, mon frere.

Steamgamesales.com only goes back with price history to its inception.

Psychonauts was on sale on Steam in January 2010 for $2, shortly after it was released on Steam:
Midweek Madness: Psychonauts for $2!

Announcement - Valve
This classic quirky title Psychonauts from Majesco is available for $2/€2/£1 through Thursday!

For years, the Psychonauts have deployed their psychically-armed operatives all over the world, but this time trouble is brewing in their own backyard. Someone is abducting students from the Psychonaut boot camp, a deranged scientist who only wants their brains. A powerful new cadet named Raz stands alone against the lunatic.

You can find old sale history in the "News" section for any particular game.

Granted, it's been, um, 20 months since that sale. But it was a fine sale. And with the release of a new Mac version (steamplay), it might get a sale again soon. In fact, I'd bet on it. If nothign else, there's always SOME discount at the Thanksgiving and Solstice sales.

Since I'm posting, I'll add a note to my fellow regulars here. I appreciate your chatter about Psychonauts. I played a PC demo years ago and found it lacking. I don't remember much about it, except that I hated the controls. I was sorely disappointed for a game that is regularly mentioned as one of the greats of the past 20 years, along with Deus Ex, Grim Fandango, Thief, BGE, and all the others that get mentioned as games that transcend their genre and platform. I will certainly be giving Psychonauts another try... I have an xbox controller now, too, which should help.
It's never on sale.
When I bought it, Steam had it on sale for $2. It was my first instance of double-dipping. Psychonauts was my Steam double dip gateway drug.

I would say Psychonauts isn't especially good as a platformer but it has a lot of charm in the dialogue and what not.

I'd hate to see the person who doesn't smile at least once at Sascha's mind.

My roommate from freshman year and I really enjoyed Uplink. As already mentioned, its does a really good job at being immersive. I found it a bit difficult, but if you ever wanted to live out the fantasy of being in Swordfish, Hackers, etc. its a good experience.

Yes, I understand what you're saying. That was the point I quit. It was something like I needed to sort of lock on a target and fire some sort of psychic energy or something, and I had no way to do that at the time, what with the crappy mapping.

I booted up my game, got to that point, and found that the controls made perfect sense now.

I know I'm detailing crappily, but I don't remember much of the game. I plan to start it over now. I quit when I was only a couple few hours in.

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to remove Steam achievements? My hubby played my Torchlight game, and I'd like to remove his achievement progress and earn the achievements myself.
While I've never used it myself (so I'm not officially endorsing it) a lot of people on SPUF mention SAM as a way to unlock/relock achievements - usually for TF2.

Needless to say, some caution is advised. But I've seen it enough on the forums to know that it must be mostly legit.

Hope that helps.
