Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

There is usually a smaller event themed for Halloween but nothing huge. There are Halloween themed games on sale. It wouldn't surprise me if they expanded it a bit and make it a ticket style event though. I have a feeling those really drive the purchase of games that are in the event and they are very easy to implement.

News to me as well. I remember the aforementioned savings on a few spooky titles, but nothing to warrant a named Halloween sale. (Not that i'd object. Always happy to blow more money on Steam. =P )

Next major sale I can think of would be Thanksgiving / black friday, assuming they do the "Giving" sale again. (Massive discounts on 10-packs and the like)
Perfect. Thanks for the info. Definitely not "dying" to play it but it's something I'd like to have eventually. And if I can get the Heroes Pack for cheap then I'll just wait it out in hopes for another sale :)
I'm with you. I bought King's Bounty during the Summer Sale, and I just got Titan Quest the other day. Pretty sure I have enough games and all to wait for MMV complete to go on sale for a pretty price again. ;)

Good to know. I'm not really into the genre, but if they could stretch the "Halloween" theme a bit, I could probably bite on a goody or two. ;)

Oh nice, I didn't know about this.

Also, is Steam down for anyone else? The main page isn't loading for me... =/

Yep yep. I played the Demo of MMV and I really liked it. Very similar to Kings Bounty, so if you're enjoying Kings Bounty then this would be a good pick up when the Heroes Pack goes on sale. And speaking of which, found out in this thread that the Heroes Pack went on sale for $5 during the summer. So let's keep our fingers crossed that we get a repeat sale :)
loads for me.
Yeah, weird, I just tried from my phone and it loads there too. It must be because I'm at a library computer, but it has loaded previously...

Noted. I'll keep an eye out during the winter sale.

...

Unless I still haven't played King's Bounty by then. Pretty sure I don't need two of virtually the same game til I've at least played one. ;)

I couldn't wait for holiday sales, jumped on the THQ pack and didn't look back. I'm used to console games being priced at $60 each, so I'm glad I managed to get about 12 plus DLC for less than one full game. I've never played Dawn of War, Stalker, or any of the other games in the pack besides Saints Row 2. I'm so excited!

That reminds me, it's almost Halloween. I'm jumpin' on any Left 4 Dead related deal as well.

I'm really hoping the Halloween sale delivers Bioshock for less than $5 (on sale last year) and Resident Evil 5 for $5 (75% off).

I'm interested in Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary so I downloaded the Legend demo. Tried to play it with my PS3 controller set up through Motioninjoy to behave as a 360 pad. The controls were screwed up and a lot of the game functions didn't seem to map well to the buttons. Bad impression, not sure if the full game would be any better. Another thing was in youtube videos they inserted 360 style icons into the game but in the demo it was just keyboard commands shown on the screen instead. Has anyone had experiences with these games and a controller?

I bit on homefront, I really enjoyed the MP on my ps3...and for 15 bucks...well...i'm sure I could've found worse ways to spend my money, maybe...?

Heroes 5 vanilla only? Utterly, UTTERLY ridiculous and indefensible deal. You can't even find Heroes 3 Incomplete any more.

Eugh.

For the record, Heroes 5's second and final expansion, the standalone Tribes of the East, can have the previous two H5 campaigns loaded in it so you need not buy the previous two.

Simply go here: http://www.heroes-fr.com/en/original_campaigns.php

This site has been up forever and nobody has asked it be taken down so I can't assume there's anything illegitimate going on. It works wonders for me.

This! I have both L4D's on 360, but I would really like to get at least the first one on PC as well.

Capcom is notorious for their stingy discounts. Having said that, I'm hoping for $10 or less on DR2 since the new one is out, though I doubt either of us will be in luck.

Sounds like the demo (and possibly the full game) doesn't play well with MotionJoy. I play all the full TR games with my wired Xbox 360 controller and they handle just like the Xbox versions. No problems with the controls at all.

PS: It's also highly possible the demo is just crap and didn't really work well with gamepads in general. I never tried the demo.

Disappointed that Homefront is only 50% off, I was banking on it being $10 or less. Looks like I'm waiting until the Halloween/Black Friday/Christmas sale.

This PS3 controller setup has worked flawlessly with every other game I have so I kinda think maybe the demo sucks. Based on your comment it should work so that helps, thanks. I'll probably buy those two, Legend and Anniv.

Okay, just tried the Anniversary demo and all the controls were set up perfectly just like I remembered they were on PS2, worked great with the controller. The demo also reminded me how frustrating the platforming in these games can be. Don't think I'll buy them after all.

Yes, it's worth it. You get two standalone games that integrate into one killer RTS. I'd still love to see it closer to $7.

Keep in mind that in addition to the many community-made levels that are out there, you'll get two campaigns with Gold.

Quick question about Titan Quest mod:

When it says to "run the game once then close it"- does that mean to just open the game (watch credits, go to start screen and turn off) or to start playing the game (pick a character and actually play for a bit).

Heroes of Might and Magic V for $5 today... anyone have any opinions on this game? I like strategy/sim games (Sim City / Civilization) and I enjoyed the King's Bounty games. Is this similar?

Is it worth getting Dawn of War II, the base game, if I have no interest at all in multiplayer and just want to play the campaign? A friend told me DoW2 series is good mostly for the multiplayer and I have no interest in most multiplayer games.

It's very similar to Kings Bounty. I played the demo (you can get it through fileplanet i believe) and I liked it, but I also noticed that the Heroes Pack had gone on sale for $5 over the summer. So as much as I want this game, I'm planning on holding out for another deal. But, if you've got an itch to play another strategy/rpg/sim type of game and don't want to wait for a sale on the Heroes Pack, then I think it's worth it :)

If you are a WH40k fan yes. The story is decent and I enjoyed it. The game does get a bit repetitive after awhile but I found it worthwhile overall and was happy with it.

I know it might be a bit early, but I was wondering if anybody knew about any Skyrim deals? Think there will be any way to get it for around $40 or so on or around launch?

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 Retribution $14.99 50% off Free to Play Weekend

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 $10 50% off
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising $10 50% off
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 Complete Pack $30
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 Gold Edition $14.99 50% off (includes DoW 2 and DoW2 Chaos Rising)
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War DLC 50% off

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War Gold Edition $10 50% off

Best price I came across is from Direct2Drive for $53.95. I wanted to get it digitally so I can unlock it at midnight. If that isn't an issue for you then a better deal might come along in a few weeks. The D2D deal went away and after I asked them about it, it suddenly reappeared so I jumped on it since Skyrim was one of the few day one games I was buying regardless.

Does anyone know if the DoWII DLC is worthwhile? It looks like it is largely skin/weapon packs. Do they actually do anything or are they cosmetic?
Does anyone know if the DoWII DLC is worthwhile? It looks like it is largely skin/weapon packs. Do they actually do anything or are they cosmetic?
Some of the weapons are ok for last stand but no must haves. The packs to change factions/chapters is cosmetic and for fans of those respective factions/chapters. So if you aren't a big Dark Angels fan then it really has no value to you but for someone who loves them it is the second best thing next to a fleshlight.

It literally just means to fire the game up once, then close it. You'll want to create your character in Immortal Throne, not Titan Quest, because there are 2 or 3 new disciplines in the expansion to choose from.

Note, though, that if you created a character in basic Titan Quest, you're still fine. When you open Immortal Throne, it will convert your character to the new game.

Don't forget the Fan Patch! You can install it at any time after installing TQ and IT.

Honestly - questions like this are best posted in the Steam forums for TQ. I'm happy to help here when I see a question but the CAG admins don't like off-topic stuff, and the topic is sales, not game support.

Good luck.

Ew. Not nearly the discount I was hoping for on DoWII: Retribution. Back to the waiting game.

I think I shall investigate a Dungeon Defenders pre-order 4 pack group and call it a week.

lmfao

So to the get all of Dawn of War 1, I would get the Platinum for $15 and Soulstorm for $10 and I would have all of it?

Also, would the Max Payne games likely be part of a Rockstar pack, assuming a Rockstar pack will go on sale during the big holiday sale?
Crappy DoW series prices.
Yeah, sadly, DoW1 never seems to get much cheaper, or hasn't in the 1.5 years I've been waiting for it all to drop to a reasonable price.

Maybe this is their one last crappy drop to get all the stupid people like me to buy it before it gets a better price in the one of the big sale coming up.

Lmfao... Probably.
how does max payne hold up? it's only $4 so i guess no great loss if it sucks.
I think Max Payne is great, it has a nice dark comic book style to it, and the bullet time system is a really fun feature, and a nice touch to the game. It sort of feels like a generic third person shooter, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, as I love all of the third person shooters that I've played.

This is based on what I experienced in the past when I got a cracked CD copy from a friend a while back, but have since lost that copy and got it from D2D, but haven't played it through yet, so I don't know if the story is any good. Seen the movie and afterwards all I remember thinking is "What the fuck did I just watch?" Forgettable and boring, but that may just have been the movie, or the fact that I seen it in a dollar theater lol...

Anyway, I'd say definitely go for it, it's definitely a game worth playing IMO.
Sign, only 50% off the DoW I and II series. When oh when are we going to see Soulstorm at $5? After all these years...
Seriously, I mean wtf are they thinking putting DoW II and DoW at the same discount?
Yeah if the original DOW games were cheaper I'd get them, but maybe during the Christmas Sale.
They better or else I'm gonna throw a rock at their website.
