Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I have to tease you a little bit for listing a bunch of 3-5 year old games and a super retro one to run on your new gaming rig ;]

This has to be the first Steam sale I've seen with so many games I never heard of, which is probably good for me. I have Painkiller Black on disc that I got for $10, so I'm not sure I need to double up on that. Bioshock 2, though, is a maybe.

Also - Ghostbusters TVG (NOT Sanctum of Slime) is really fun, and I had zero issues playing on PC with KB/M controls. It's written by Dan and Harold and voiced by the cast.
Well, you should have seen my old computer. Probably couldn't even run BoD :p
Even at $6.79 that's what...3.40 for 2 fairly recent games and all of its expansions? Can't beat that dude.
Well the thing is that I already own FEAR and it's expansions, so I'm only getting FEAR 2 and it's expansion (still a decent price though and I'd be getting the FEAR games on Steam)

I'm trying to decide whether to get Bioshock or Amnesia. I can only get one, the other I'm sure I'll pick up sometime during a sale...
Condemned: Criminal Origins is on the PC, yes.
The sequel Bloodshot never got ported here.
Well, whichever one is on PC isn't available on Steam, so whoever I quoted was being silly. :/
I have $10 to spend, what should I get? I was thinking about terraria and bioshock.
Buy terraria from a 4 pack to get it for $2.50.
RE5 is hit or miss. I hated it just for the fact that the CPU partner you get is dumb as a fucking rock sometimes and it made the game painful for me. Now if you played co-op, then it would be good.
You can actually counteract the partner's bad AI in several ways. The main thing is to give her the electrical baton for most stages. Then she's a melee powerhouse and doesn't waste ammo. Also, giving her the two armored vests keeps her safe better. But if you just grind to upgrade your weapons sufficiently, you'll be very powerful and her dying will seldom be an issue.

Grabbing the FEAR pack and the Penumbra pack. Considering STALKER Call of Pripyat (already have SoC) but I wonder why Clear Sky isn't included in the deal? Should I hold off on buying CoP in case it's bundled with Clear Sky down the road? I'm not in a huge rush to play these games...

Made sure to pick up Vampire Masquerade, since I missed it the last time it was $5.

Have to go through what I have and see what'll be worth picking up on this sale.

Anyone who's played Dead Space 1 & 2 on 360 and PC, how's the PC version compare?

Clear Sky will never be bundled with the others as its a different publisher.

The four pack is $15 so its actually $3.75 each

PC Version of DS1 is great besides the in game vsync issue which only takes a minute to fix.

PC Version of DS2 is crippled because EA has said it will never get the DLC that the consoles have. If you don't care about that then it probably looks way better.

To get into the Halloween mood i may as well play a horror game, However i probably won't make it through a whole game so i'm only going to get one. Should i get penumbra or amnesia, they both look pretty much the same and I've seen a little bit of both. I'm leaning towards amnesia just because it seems like more people have been talking about it.

Never say never. The publishing rights to the Broken Sword games and Psychonauts have both changed in the past few months and have led to changes on Steam.

I've only played Dead Space 1 and 2 on the PC - though, both were great.

Dead Space 1 PC - not all controls are configurable/remappable.
B/c WSAD is forced on player movement to KB/mouse and can't be moved to cursors [I'm left-handed], I used 360 pad.
X360 pad played the game fine, BTW.
One area drove me nuts w/ mining the thing off the moon-like globe in the room - and I never finished the game.
No MP in Dead Space 1.

Dead Space 2 PC - just about everything is remappable everywhere, thanks to Garrett Garreth and all the complaining went around about controls not being very remappable again.
Dead Space 2 PC is fantastic to play either w/ X360 pad or KB/mouse.
SP portion here is EVEN better than the original game's SP.
This SP portion, I actually finished. :)
Dead Space 2 MP's lacks a fair number of maps - otherwise, the MP is good.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines -> my most installed and uninstalled game of all time.
I've replayed it more times than I can count.
One of my favorite games of all time.
It has issues w/ Win 7 - so make sure you check the Steam forums and look at the solutions if you wanna play it Vanilla; or just use one of the Unofficial Patches [Wesp or Tess].
Just make sure you back-up game's original EXE somewhere; and the entire game somewhere BEFORE you apply any unofficial stuff - just in case you need to reinstall it properly.

Dead Space 1 is a great port except for the "vsync causing aiming lag" issues. If you get DS1, don't use the in-game vsync; use D3DOverrider instead.

Only played a few minutes of Dead Space 2, so I can't comment on that. Seems like it runs flawlessly from the bit I played, though.

I can wait.
Its a stubborn one, but I like the ones that play hard to get. Ill wait until its old and cheap.....wait that sounds bad.

Both are from the same Developer. Amnesia is newer and has more bells and whistles. It however cannot be mentioned without referencing this video

@steam_games just tweeted out that Depths of Peril is the daily deal and 75% off. This is not true. Was this a recent sale that I don't remember or did they accidentally let loose tomorrow's?

Thanks guys, I didn't even realize the publisher was different for Clear Sky. Even with the possibility of them (however slim) being bundled in the future, I think I'll just go ahead and grab CoP since it's so cheap.

Hasn't been on sale in recent memory, so hopefully that's tomorrow's daily deal. I'd snap it up at that price.

i wish condemned was on steam. i remember playing it all in 1 sitting. such a fun and great game. too bad condemned 2 never made it to pc.
also, time to rant about devil may cry 4 not being on sale for less than 10$ again. ARRGHGH!

I wonder if the deal changes based on region. I don't remember what it was but earlier this week I ran into something like that with them and it hadn't been on sale at all.

The Dead Space pack is misleading. The 66% discount is on $49.99 and both of the games normal prices are $19.99 each. This could be a price mistake since it is a little cheaper to buy the games separately.

This is the breakdown on the package page:

Individual price: $16.79
Package price: $49.98
Limited Time Offer: -$32.99
Cost to you: $16.99

So I wonder if they got the package price wrong.

You are like me and are looking for a deal on only Fear 2. I also already owned Fear 1. I'd suggest going over to Gamersgate. They are selling Fear 2 (and according to the description it appears to include the DLC as well) for $3.38.

Off topic from the Halloween Sale, but my husband recently finished Dragon Age and wants II through Steam. Obviously, he can't get it. Has there ever been an instance where EA removed a game from Steam and then later added it back? Or is he screwed and just has to get the disc/Origin/whatever?

Ghostbusters the Video game is great, 3 hours in and so far its fairly fun. In my mind it really recreates the feel the movies had. :D

Alice Madness Returns was previously removed from Steam and was later added back. It's theoretically possible Dragon Age 2 could end up back on Steam. Kinda sounds like the issue is Valve wants the DLC to be sold on Steam as well as wherever else, but EA wants to sell it exclusively through themselves. So if EA finally breaks down and sells the DLC through Steam as well I imagine they'll throw it back out there.

Also son of a bitch, Depths of Peril 75% sale just showed up in the news on Steam but the sale itself isn't up. Last few times they've listed two daily deals like that the second one didn't show up. Bummer, would've liked to pick that up.

So... I feel like going a bit crazy. Looks like a lot of these games are great semi-old games I've missed out on since I haven't been a PC gamer long. I wanna pick up...

Overlord 1, Cthulu saves the world, Painkiller Black, Stalker Bundle, Vampire: The Masquerade, Penumbra

Looks like total, that's around $26. Any other games worth checking out? I already have Amnesia, Overlord 2, Borderlands, and L4D. Not sure if I want the FEAR collection...

They've removed Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2, though I'm not sure what else they have removed.

I have DA: O Ultimate on Steam and haven't picked up DA2 on Steam since I have it on 360 and wasn't managing to get it at the cheap prices when it's been on sale.

DA2 has been regularly on sale for $15 or less from various other sources, such as GamersGate and Direct2Drive, if memory serves.

I'm pretty sure it was $8 a few days ago on origin, it might still be. It will probably return to steam as a complete pack as the dispute is only over dlc and direct contact with consumers.

Not only is there the DLC problem, since EA wants to sell DLC exclusively on Origin, but there's more.
The other problem is EA wants also for patches and updates to go directly through Origin, not Steam.
All Steam-sold versions are supposed to have their games updated directly through Steam - since, you know, Steam is an extra program running in the background and the game must be tested to work w/ Steam running, as well.

Do not pay a dime over that. Dragon Age Origins surprised me because I fell in love with the game when I generally do not enjoy fantasy. I did the obvious and went to play Dragon Age II thinking that it would be an excellent continuation and MANNNNNNN was I let down. It's not that it is a bad game, but when you compare the two your husband will more than likely feel like I did. I would recommend you wait and get Witcher 2 for him to play in the meantime. Witcher 2, in my opinion, is the best RPG I've played in the last 10 years.

Nation Red is tremendously fun and I can't even explain why. Normally I scoff at two-stick shooters and generic zombie games but this one is just better than the sum of its parts.

RE5's true joy is in couch-coop mercenaries, and you only get the added DLC for that on consoles. The story mode is a dull attempt to recapture RE4.

You know what Steam, randomizing the order every time I come BACK to the store page is stupid. Seriously.

FEAR3 is great but should be cheaper. Also very short.

Has anyone played Zombie Pirates? I've read it is like Plants vs Zombies and I can't get my wife off that game some weeks. She really needs a new game to play and if Zombie Pirates is like PvZ, that is a must buy for me.

For me, are any of the following worth buying:
Dead Horde
Dark Fall: Lost Souls
Scratches: Directors Cut
Dracula: Origin

Games I highly recommend:
Ghost Busters
Nation Red
L4D1 and 2
Amnesia
Bioshock
Vampire: Bloodlines

Does Bioshock run poorly or not? Can someone who owns Bioshock clear this up for me?

Additionally, do people still play Nation Red online? I don't see myself playing single player.
EA has been removing games from Steam so they can push Origin, their flavor of Steam.

They've removed Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2, though I'm not sure what else they have removed.

Thanks to all for your input on the Steam/EA thing. The fighting between Steam and EA is a shame. My hubby is playing through Awakening now, but he keeps saying he wants DAII. I guess I'll see if that's still true when he finishes Awakening.

Also, doesn't II import your character and choices into the second game? As one is Steam and the other would be Origin, I bet they wouldn't talk to each other...

I just looked into The Witcher, and it looks like something he would really like. If it's on sale during the winter sale, I'll likely get it for him. Thanks!

Yes, saves from DAO work into DA2.
They are mainly storyline things take into account here- in DA2, you are NOT the same character from DAO

Most games, the saves from different versions should work [Steam, Origin, whatever]. This should NOT be a problem.

It's just the DRM for Steam and Origin's main EXE file [file to execute the game] is different - Steam version uses Steamworks DRM only, while Origin version uses Securom.

Also - most recent EA games, their keys should activate up on Origin. So, if you needed to, you could always try and activate all your Dragon Age games ALSO on Origin.

BTW, DA2 is nowhere as amazin as DAO. DA2 is good, but it just isn't in DAO's league. Just, keep that in mind - as DA2 is less strategic; overhead cam was removed completely; and there's A LOT of re-used environments.

I just looked into The Witcher, and it looks like something he would really like. If it's on sale during the winter sale, I'll likely get it for him. Thanks!

The Witcher 1 and 2 are great.
Especially Witcher 2 - one of the best games released in 2011.
I have $10 to spend, what should I get? I was thinking about terraria and bioshock.
I would say Vampire the Maquerade first most definately and then amnesia.
Painkiller Black is also $2.50 by itself but I don't know how to work that in to get an even $10. All 3 of those games are freaking awesome.
Edit-Penumbra Black plague Gold Edition is also $2.50. So you can get VtM, Painkiller Black and Penumbra Black Plague Gold for $10 total. Penumbra can show you what to expect for Amnesia, so play that first and buy Amnesia later.

There's a lot of good choices so it's really hard to narrow it down
Alice Madness Returns was previously removed from Steam and was later added back.

I have a feeling Dragon Age 2 will be added back to Steam but as a bundle with all the DLC sometime in the future once they sort their issues out.

DA2 is better than DA:O, IMO. It's more polished and better paced. It's also smaller scaled and the combat is more fluid, which helps the problem DA:O had. Still the same issues before though in terms of weak character development and repetitive environments. If you get it, play on Hard or it will feel like some beat-em-up game.

Or if you want something like DA:O that does it right, go buy Baldur's Gate II from GoG for like $10 or whatever.
The Dead Space pack is misleading. The 66% discount is on $49.99 and both of the games normal prices are $19.99 each. This could be a price mistake since it is a little cheaper to buy the games separately.
I'm seeing that on a lot of collections/packs. Usually only a couple cents cheaper, but it's probably because they jack up the price for the package before applying the discount.
