Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Couldn't help picking up Bioshock 1 & 2 even though I had them on Xbox. Man, I realize that PC games look better than their console ports and all, but it just amazes me how large the jump in quality is. Come on MS & Sony, where are those new systems? :)

I have absolutely no idea of Steam can afford to do all of this. It's madness I tell you. Anyway I'm getting the Dead Space bundle, FEAR bundle, and that $2 RPG bundle. I'm tempted to get Limbo but I've got that feeling there will be a better deal during the holidays.

Has anyone heard any word of a sale on Costume Quest? I really want to play it for Halloween but paying full price rubs me the wrong way.

I payed full price on XBLA the day it came out last year. It's a great game with lots of style and charm. Although it's short, every minute is a blast.

That said, I'm guessing it'll be cheaper over the winter sale. You may have to wait a little month to get it, although I imagine you're wanting it more for its Halloween theme.

So much for your signature huh? Steam sales are always the death of my "I won't buy more games" plans.

After Christmas, I'm thinking about filing a frivolous lawsuit against Steam for giving great deals.

I should not get drunk during Steam sales. Spent $146 last night. At least I had the sense to just pick up Painkiller Black instead of the complete pack. Saved myself 2.50! :D

Not really surprised it wasn't discounted since it just came out a few weeks ago for PC.

Utopianmachine summed the game up nicely. If you're really biting at the bit to play it, $15 is a fair price, IMO. It includes the Grubbins on Ice DLC, which give you an additional world and three new costumes.

This will be one of the few console games that I'll rebuy for the PC just because I really enjoyed it (even collected all of the cards). It's full of whimsy and charm and reminded me of how great the childhood imagination is.

Does anyone else find this hilarious?

So your hardcore train simulation with $1600 worth of DLC to provide the most realistic experience adds a trains vs zombies expansion? rofl This made my day. I wonder how many people are going to get suckered into a train sim by this and how much crossover there is between train sim fans and zombie fans.

I'd probably pick it up but I dont buy anything on steam at full price. I know the second I buy it, it will be a daily deal or something.

Why not get the XBLA version that's on sale for 7.50 right now?

With Expansion like the PC version its 1000MSP which is $12.50. Still sounds like a lot for a year old downloadable game.

Costume Quest is one of the very, very few games I've gotten all the achievements for. I know that's not saying a lot to some people, as it's only a 200 gamerscore game. Still, I almost never go for everything, but Costume Quest made it a pleasure.

The dialogue, characters, costumes, powers, settings, encounters -- everything is creative and fun.

...

Get the game on 360 for 600 points. If you like it, get the DLC. 600 points is half off. What part of that do you have a problem with?

Nation Red's 4 pack matches the individual discount (66% off) and is now $10.19. Initially the 4 pack wasn't discounted.

I think I'll grab this. There's too much praise for the game to ignore.

Also, anybody want to get in on a 4 pack?

Well played, Call of Cthulhu. Well played.

I can wait.
HA! I know, I know. I'm right there with you. Bethesda rarely discounts on Steam, and when they do, it's usually 25%.

CoCDCotE was was $7.49 during the last winter sale, the last summer sale, and (although somehow i missed it?) Aug 4-8 of this year. Proof. Thing is, when I see it on sale during the big sale events, I take a pass because I'm targeting games that are 75% off... and 25% off a 6 year old game just doesn't light up my life.

Oh well. On the bright side, at least it's not $20 like it was for so long.
Bioshock is the only game I regret buying on steam. I got it for 5 dollars but when it isn't having problems with a video card it's having problems with the sound card. I haven't found a PC it would run on without a problem. And believe me I'm no amateur with computers.

Does Bioshock run poorly or not? Can someone who owns Bioshock clear this up for me?

I don't mean to discount aus_nacht's experience; I take him at his word that he had problems with this game. But I also don't recall a lot of bitching and moaning about Bioshock on the PC; it was a pretty strong port. The graphics are fantastic. The GUI menus are optimized for a controller, though... like when you're changing spells, or biotic effects, whatever they're called in this game. But the actual gameplay is great with a keyboard and mouse.

It played fine for me. At the time my configuration was: Phenom II x4 3.2 ghz; ATI 4850 1GB card. 4 GB memory. On-board sound. I just cranked up the settings and away I went.

I love it. I really like that they are willing to poke a little fun at themselves. I am an owner of Railworks, but frankly I'm a little disappointed that their halloween-themed DLC wasn't a freebie. Although they clearly make their hay on DLC, they have released several engines and routes for free before. I am surprised that this one isn't.

I remember some folks had widescreen pov complaints, but i think they fixed them.

I remember people complaining about no true widescreen support, which was stupid for 2k. Wonder if they fixed that...?

LMAO I'm so gonna buy that game now.

Also, Should I get Penumbra and Amnesia?

Then I would advise waiting until the Steam Winter Sale then. If you are willing to play it on console, Costume Quest is currently on sale on Xbox Live for 600 MSP for the base game. The DLC Grubbins on Ice would be 400 MSP, making the total package 1000 MSP. Another option is to download it from PSN since it is the PSN Plus Free Game of the Month.

I can understand the CAG in you wanting to wait for greater discounts and more sales, but eventually there comes a point where you have to decide whether or not it is worth it to you to continue waiting to play a game that you want to play just so you can save a dollar or two. I found the game incredibly charming and gave it a glowing review in the Xbox Live Deal of the Week thread.

On another note, if we want to see more creativity in games (such as Costume Quest) then we as gamers need to support new Intellectual Properties that we enjoy. Otherwise, we end up with a dearth of originality because large publishers are unwilling to take the risks that small independent developers do.
I own the console versions of Dead Space 1 and 2 that I haven't played yet.... any reason to get the pack off Steam? ;)
I think I read that at least one of those games has really restrictive DRM. I read it here: http://steamdrm.flibitijibibo.com/the-big-drm-list/ It says that TAGES DRM has no revoke tool and that the DRM for Dead Space 2 has the new version of TAGES. If you can find out more about that I'd be interested.

Looked into it some more, you CAN deauthorize Dead Space 2.

I might be interested, I just want to check out the demo and see what I think.

So after looking through the entire Halloween sale, the only two games that have piqued my interest are "Saw" and "Haunted House"

Yes/No/Maybe?

I've heard the "Saw" games sucks, but I do like the movies... and 66% off is as cheap as I have seen it.....

Totally agree. Costume Quest is one of the few games that I too have all the achievements for, and wanted to get. I feel proud whenever I look at that 100% (though Arkham Asylum takes the cake).

I was going to pick up just Painkiller black but for $2.50 more i rather have the complete pack. Glad i did. Im playing though overdose and it plays just fine.

If you're on the fence with F.E.A.R. 3 or Amnesia: The Dark Descent you can play both for free between 4 PM PST today and midnight the 31st using OnLive. They're both part of the Halloween event. That's about as good a trial as you'll find.

Well that's strange, the demo has disappeared from my Steam library. Don't count on me for your group cause I gotta redownload it again tonight.

could somebody give me a hand please? I have a 2nd hard drive because my 1st is full, how do I install games that I purchase off of steam to the 2nd drive? It seems to default to my primary full drive and I cant figure out how to change it :(

Lol both games that I ended up not getting. I wouldn't impulse buy SAW solely based on being a fan of the movie. That's what a lot of people did with all of those games that get their sales from accompanying movie theater releases of the title. That's the only reason why they sell, because they're related to the movie. This is one of those games. I'd watch a YouTube video of the gameplay first. Maybe it'll be interesting, but my guess is terribad.
If you're on the fence with F.E.A.R. 3 or Amnesia: The Dark Descent you can play both for free between 4 PM PST today and midnight the 31st using OnLive. They're both part of the Halloween event. That's about as good a trial as you'll find.
Lol yeah you could beat the game in that time. Both games even. Lol... And it's the weekend. They're Crrayzy!!! :whee:
could somebody give me a hand please? I have a 2nd hard drive because my 1st is full, how do I install games that I purchase off of steam to the 2nd drive? It seems to default to my primary full drive and I cant figure out how to change it :(
Your OS is also taking a performance hit when your primary drive is full. You may want to shuffle anything you can over to that second drive.

So after looking through the entire Halloween sale, the only two games that have piqued my interest are "Saw" and "Haunted House"

I played through the first SAW game with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Overall it's a decent enough game and worth a play, though I wouldn't recommend it's sequel.

Since I already traded out my PS3 copy, I bit on SAW on the Steam sale. You'll get your $6 worth IMO.

Yeah I rented it and beat it and thought it was pretty decent. Not great, but if I beat a game you know its halfway decent, I dont waste my time on garbage games.
I would like to point out that the GOTY edition of borderlands is on sale for $7.49.
Lol... Again? Damn man, I can't believe how quick that game went down to dirt cheap. Great game, me and my friends are having a great time with the arena DLC content.

But you did rent it. I know I wouldn't be able to live down that glare of a game I rented staring at me as I play a game I own. Renting it alone almost makes you play it. =P

I picked up Ghostbusters and Nation Red yesterday and today picked up Amnesia and Bioshock. My friend also gifted me the Dead Space 1&2 pack. I love you Steam and your awesome sales...

The arena DLC was easily the most mindless. I hated that stuff. :/
I liked ghost master, its sims haunting to be honest, you plant ghosts and freak sims out of their house...lol
Thanks for the input. Sounds like it's exactly what I'm expecting.
