Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Oh no... I feel like I'm at school on my free time.
:puke:

Last year they had a "Give and Get Sale" which had multiple games purchasable as 5 or 10 packs with higher savings. Additional games were on sale each day too, including highly discounted Indie Bundle packs. I believe the sale lasted from the 24th (Thanksgiving in the U.S.) to the 30th. 5 days later, the Christmas scavenger hunt began and lasted until the big Christmas Sale.

Unlike the Christmas Sale, the "November Sale" has fewer selections, no publisher packs and the entire store isn't discounted in some capacity.
Fallout: New Vegas (Steamworks) is $9.99 at D2D.

It's not realistically getting any cheaper than that is it?
It will get cheaper than that. It will be that price or cheaper come the Holiday Sale and the DLC will be on sale too.

Maybe, I'd wait to buy until it's on sale this month or Christmas, just in case it drops lower. ;)
I'd just wait for the Ultimate edition or whatever. Got the Fallout 3 GOTY for about 10 bucks on Steam.
Yeah, probably should wait for that. It'll be a while until that's $10 though.

Wait for the holiday sale. The complete edition of New Vegas is coming out or at least I think it was announced and well either wait for a deal on that or see what the holiday sale is. New Vegas has been $9.99 a few times this year so it's not a once in a lifetime price.

New Vegas at $10 and the DLC sans the last one have been as low as $2.50. By now you probably could have gotten all of the New Vegas content for $20 as opposed to waiting on the GOTY edition that will start at $40 and would have to be discounted higher than 50% to justify the waiting.

Also, a reminder, a new Indie Royale bundle starts tomorrow around 10am EST or so -- possibility that some/all of the games will be redeemable on Steam. The earlier you buy, the cheaper it will be.
A Steam key for Gish is now part of the Humble Voxatron Debut (Bundle).
That's cheating! Gish was part of Humble Bundle 1. Don't they know I'm greedy?

Edit: Upon further inspection, did anyone else notice that they also added a bunch of Lexaloffle's earlier games to the bundle? Zen Garden, Chocolate Castle, and Jasper's Journeys have all been tossed in. Not sure if they're any good, but they're there, just not on Steam.

The Gish key is separate from the Steam key given originally. Guess I can apply this one to my wife's Steam account or give it away, then.

I agree with this. New Vegas at $10 is a good deal plus the winter sale is just around the corner and the DLC will go on sale. I got New Vegas for $10 earlier in the year and then grabbed the DLC on sale during the summer and Quakecon sales. The only one I need now is the last one and will be grabbing that on the summer sale.

You should be able to get the whole package for around $20 if you time it right. The GOTY will be considered a 'new' game and start at a higher price plus it's not even out yet. Better to make your own GOTY edition now on the cheap.

Of course if you (like me) are completely backlogged and won't be playing it for some time anyhow I suppose it won't hurt to wait.

The Indie Royale Difficult 2nd Bundle is up. 4 Steam games. They are

Nightsky
Fate of the World
Scoregasm
Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please!

The site is getting hammered so you might need to give it some time.
Someone should trade me Fate of the World or Night Sky for Sanctum + DLC or ARES + DLC. :D
This isn't the trading thread, you know that. Also, if you're patient you can get both for $1.99.
Just pony up the $2! you Cheapass :p
And yeah, having a moment of badness. I really just want Fate of the World. A LOT.

They said they're going to reset it when the server issues are resolved because people were locked at out the beginning.

In a few hours they are resetting the price back to $2 due to the servers getting slammed earlier. That is your chance!
Is Day of Defeat worth the $2.50?

Also is there a Weekend Deal? I see nothing on Steam about it.
Weekend deals pop up sometime on Thursday, no fixed time. Sometimes they go live at 10am PST other times they go up at like 4pm PST. So I wouldn't worry till the end of the day :D

Really hoping that Oblivion GOTY Deluxe is part of the weekend deal. I have the game on my 360, but I would really love to give it a look on the PC with all the mods and such.

I live in Chicago, anyone know what time Steam will allow me to play Skyrim?

According to the store's page it looks like 11pm but I am not sure.

Sounds about right to me. 11/11 12AM EST and 11/10 9PM PST.

Somebody just dropped a ton of cash on the Indie Royale Bundle.

Went from close to £2 to around £1.30.

If you want it cheap you might struggle to beat this :)
Decided to bite on the Royale Bundle after all. Been wanting Fate of the World pretty bad. Price is down to $2.18.
It's a cool game, tough though. We reviewed it (Tipping Point, actually) a couple of weeks back and it'll definitely give you a challenge. It was a different style of game but was a good change of pace. Hope you like it though :)
Steam must really be cooking up a sale for them not to have posted any kind of WE deal by now...
They usually post them at 4pm EST, 1pm PST.

Day of Defeat: Source for 2.50. Excellent price, the game is definitely dated but if you're not sick of WW2 shooters, the community is still fairly active.

It seems closer to 5 PM EST in my experience. Either way, later this afternoon.

DODS is a good game and there is still a decent active community. It's not thoroughly modern, but if you like the Source engine, you will feel immediately comfortable with the gameplay.

However, the existing community is all very excellent at the game, so prepare to be a little frustrated with a steep learning curve.

I bit on the new Royale bundle, as Night Sky is on my wishlist. Payed $3.50 when it was $3.44. Fate of the World and the 2-pack of adventure games have been on my "vaguely interested" list, so I'm pretty happy with the price. Wish I'd remembered to check in when the bundle was brand new. Alas.

As for the weekend deal - If i had to guess, I would put my money on the Assassin's Creed series. (Shouldn't that be Assassins' Creed? I just noticed that. No matter.) The entire series is on deep discount this weekend at GamersGate, and lately GamersGate and Steam have had similarly-timed deals on the weekends. So that's my best guess.

Really? I may be wrong, but I usually 9/10 time see the MWM & WED around 10am PST. Sometimes they will post one then add to it later in the day, I see that alot but usually I see something before now.

MWM is usually earlier in the day and sometimes they add them later but Weedend deals are usually Thursday 5 EST 4 CST 2 PST and sometimes they add another sometime on Friday.
