Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

My wishlist:

Witcher 2 to get close to the Amazon price, or I suppose I will buy it there.
Deus Ex $20
Drakensang $10 (expansions would be nice as well) - I was on vacation without net the only week this went on sale this year. ugh.

That's not to say that I won't buy plenty of other crap if I see it go on sale, but these are my top 3.

First off, Serious Sam 3 is awesome. It's basically Serious Sam but improved in a lot of nice ways that doesn't dumb down the game, just adds in some features like spring and looking down the gun sights when aiming.

Also my wish list.

$5 or lower
Bastion
Super Meat Boy
E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy
Chantelise
From Dust

$2.50 or lower
Sequence (I would of bought Sequence at $5 but I know I will suck at it combat wise).

Currently you can get a steam key from here: http://getter.g-forums.net/ for $2. I remember reading on a different site that it is indeed legit, someone had contacted the makers of Sequence and they confirmed it. I can't find it now, though, so if you're willing to give it a try (or email the makers to see if they'll respond in time), it will meet what you're looking for.

I want to get Skyrim for a good price, I'd also grab Dead Rising 2 for $10, would consider it at $15. Nothing else specific but I will look out for any other good deals that might be going on.

since everybody is posting their wishlist I guess I'll post mine. Tell you the truth the only game I don't have that I REALLY want to play in the next few months is Deus Ex HR. ( backlog is ridiculous. Yeah I know everybody says that, but I have like 200 games unfinished)Here are some of the games I want to play, and what price I will pay for them. Even if they have all of these, I won't buy them all. I'm only looking to spend $30 at the very most, I prefer to keep it to $20 or less

Deus EX HR-$20
Bulletstorm-$5
Alice-$5
Saints Row 2-$2.50
Lego games ( Batman, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones)- $5 each
Whispered World-$2.50
Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition- $7.50
Bastion-$3
Blur-$5
Risen $7.50
Sam and Max season 3-$5

so yeah that's pretty all I can come up with right now, though I'm sure there will be a few sales that are so ridiculously cheap that I'm gonna have to pick them up

I realise that the pre-holiday sale was never in much doubt, but I've received word that Fortix 2 will be part of it at some stage, thus more or less confirming its impending existence.
1 thing on my wishlist from steam. Skyrim for $40 and I'm yours!!
$30-ish... we can dream!

Realistic - Bastion $5

Possible but not likely - Bastion $3 or less, Orcs Must Die $3 or less, Fallout GotY $5 or less and Dungeon Defenders $3 or less

Really though the part I look forward to the most is all the stuff I didnt even know I wanted. The stuff that goes on sale for 80-90% off and I take a look and decide I really want it, or the stuff that goes on sale for $1 or $2 that I never heard of but end up thinking looks great anyways. Some of my fav games of the last few years have been things like Defense Grid, Nation Red and Beat Hazard that I got for no other reason then they looked good and were dirt cheap.

Agreed, and I end up missing on a lot of those and in effect wasting a few bucks.

But I figure the 75+ hours I put into the 2.50$ I spent on Defense Grid makes up for a hell of a lot of games I spent 2 bucks on an didn't like that much.

Some things from my wishlist that I might buy at the right price:

Dragon Age: Origins UE (Have the regular edition)
Portal 2
Ceville
Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble
Bastion
Grotesque Tactics
Lara Croft and the Guardian Of Light
Rockhard
Sideway: New York
Chantelise (So many people requesting Recettear, but I've been waiting on a deal for this one for a while.)
Delve Deeper!
Worms Crazy Golf

I remember last year being disappointed by the Black Friday sale and then amazed that the Holiday 2010 sale that came not long after was so much more impressive. I go in, expecting this time to be disappointed.

My hopes:

1) $5 - $10 Assassin's Creed 2, AssBro.
2) $5 - $10 Homefront
3) $5 - $15 The Witcher 2 (Would like Steam Achievements, hoping for PM of Amazon)
4) $18 - $25 Batman Arkham City
5) $18 - $25 Skyrim
6) $15 Saints Row The Third
7) $25 BF3
8) $5-7 Call of Duty 4: MW (I have it on disc, want to replace it, but not for $10 or more)
5) $18 - $25 Skyrim

7) $25 BF3
If your hopes are resting on these, then I would definitely expect to be disappointed. The steepness of the discount in particular seems unlikely. And since BF3 isn't on Steam...

Really hoping Witcher 2 goes to around Amazon price levels ($15 or so.) That's my magical price point. Maybe if it hits a daily during the Christmas sale.

The Recettear guys (Carpe Fulgar) just tweeted something like "Today and into this weekend should be an interesting time for people who don't own our games." Which I'd say is a 90 percent confirmation it's starting today. And obviously Recetter and/or Chantelise will be on daily deals by the weekend.

Homefront is $6.93 from Amazon and activates on Steam. Good deal if you have prime or need a filler.

Means I probably will be buying Chantelise this weekend.

Lara Croft has been on sale from a couple different places multiple times in the 3-5$ range. You looking for cheaper than that?

And Chantelise is a fantastic game. Bought it around launch when it was 10% off and absolutely love it. However, you will probably want a controller to play it. Rotating the camera with the keyboard kinda sucks.

DHSGiT sucks so much. A friend and I both got this game and agreed we don't get why the reviews gave it positive praise. The storyline is strange and makes little sense, and the minigames aren't fun.

YMMV, of course, but I'll steer anyone I can away from this indie garbage.

Excellent. Already have Recettear, but I could absolutely go for Chantelise.
Let's hope the sale starts today. Two more hours.
I'm dying to take a nap after sleeping really poorly last night, but hoping the Thanksgiving sale starts today is probably going to keep me up another hour. Way to go, Steam. You get my money, time, and my sleep. :applause:

Hear hear!

At least we're all together. We'll be together to console one another and whine or to gleefully climb over each other to be the first to post about the deals. ;)

My wishlist for the Black Friday/Christmas sale includes some of the popular stuff, like Bastion, but I'd also really like From Dust. And while I'm likely the only one who wants it, if Sims 3 Medieval goes on sale for $14.99 or less, it's so mine.
One good thing about Steam's BF deals is that everyone that wants one, is guaranteed one if they have the funds :D
And of course, provided that Steam doesn't run out of keys. That happened with one or two games in the last few years, but of course I can't remember which games they were now. Anyone?

BUT that is rare, so no need to worry :)

Don't know how much you know or care, but from what I've read, the PC port of From Dust is terribly optimized. I resigned myself to getting it on an XBLA sale (and, there was the fiasco with Ubi claiming it wouldn't have always on DRM, then it released and it did and they tried to pretend they never said that).

Zillionandnine: Prey was one...maybe Bioshock 2 was the other? Can't remember for sure.

I'll keep that in mind. I do have a Logitech controller that I use for some games. Hopefully it will work.

Sorry to hear that. The concept sounded cute to me, but never felt motivated to pay $10 for it.

If it doesn't work, use the program Joy2Key to map it to your controller and problem solved.

I'm newish to PC gaming. What do you mean when you say the game is "terribly optimized?"

My fear is that my graphics card won't be able to make the game as pretty as the 360 did or the game won't run as well. My graphics card is low-end, as I hardly ever play games that benefit from a good graphics card.

Agreed, it's part of the reason I got a PC and am slowing transferring over to be a PC gamer. The digital downloads are much more conveinient for me.

Skyrim is the game I hope to get a deal on from Steam.

It basically means they did a sloppy job of porting it to the pc and it won't function or play as smooth or good as if they had done a good job or made a version specifically for the pc. Of Course it varies on how bad the port is, some are good some are bad and I don't really know how From Dusts is.

Not only that but you got a larger game selection and if you can hit sales, oh man do you get good stuff cheap. Stuff like Alpha Protocol for $2 where it would take a hell of a pricing error to ever get that on consoles.

Oh god 11 minutes. My anticipation is rising.

From what I'd heard people were having major framerate issues, even to the point where it became a slideshow in some areas; menus not showing up; rough and jaggedy looking edges from no AA; and even not being able to adjust the resolution.

The game went through a few patches so one would assume that these issues have been fixed. The framerate was intially capped at 30 fps, so I don't know if that's been lifted.

I checked out Metacritic, and they seem to agree with you, saying the game is better on XBLA. I think I'll wait for a sale and buy it there.

...Unless a reeeeeeaaaally tempting price comes along on Steam.

I also heard there was an issue with from dust where the screen would scroll before you moved the mouse to the edge of the screen. The game never came up on my radar due to me expecting Ubisoft to be themselves (they did) So if you are interested in the game you might want to check out the steam forums and see what problems the game still has.

It's the Black Friday sale, not the Christmas sale. We have to understand the epicness is limited for a month yet.

...Unless a reeeeeeaaaally tempting price comes along on Steam.
I've done a number of shifts of games from 360 to PC via Steam, such as L4D1 and L4D2, since the community is better and the mods/updates are free and quicker. In most cases, it's the same or better, save the random example you found.

Usually 360 and PC titles are about the same when it comes to ports.

If the graphics card is the issue, then that's semi-easy to fix by swapping it out with a new one, assuming it's a desktop.

Regardless, as long as you have a graphics card that can drive the games in the resolution of your monitor with the eye candy you want, you're good.

This pretty much sums up how I feel at 9:59am every day as well as from US Thanksgiving through New Years. Thanks a lot for turning me into a junkie, Steam ;)

*Biting down on leather belt right now*

So I'm clueless here, but what's the point of capping games at 30 fps? I mean, I know not all video cards can handle games at max settings, 60 fps or above, but why cap? I'm terribly ignorant when it comes to technical stuff like this though...
I'm wondering if Steam will start matching items from the Amazon DD sale they're running, like The Witcher 2 Deluxe @ $16.

Would be nice.
Steam doesn't have to match. They know they don't have any competition.

;)

So is my johnson.

I'm hoping for some compelling daily deals to kick off day 1.

Of course but last year I got Audiosurf and the first two Deus Ex games for under $5. So I am excited for it :D
