Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Im actually pretty happy here
Alice for 15
Cthulu for 5
Chatelise for 5
Duke for 7

Ill wait on daily deals but its looking good right now
Man, I'm a little paranoid about some of the games in my wishlist pulling a Terraria by decreasing the discount. Capsized is 75% off and so is Galactrix. Should I wait?

Also, Resident Evil 5, Sideway New York and Jade Empire aren't discounted. That sucks.
Unless its something you absolutely cannot wait to play for another month, it probably safe just wait it out. Worse that can happen is that it will decrease and then go back on sale, probably cheaper, during the winter sale.

Holy crap, quite a surprise even from Steam on this one~
I've been eyeing Legendary for a good while. Sure it's a pretty bad FPS, but I enjoyed it. Was hoping to pick up a copy on Steam so I could get around the limited installs issue. Well, in the past few years that damn game has never gone on sale. It would always be $10.

Just checked my wishlist, and found it at $2.50. :D My patience seems to have paid off. (Well, relatively speaking considering the game in question. ;P )

Totally love the FONV DLC prices, so hard to wait and see if they end up as daily deals.... other than that, not much I can see that I absolutely need to buy.
Damn it, Risen should be $10 or under by now, grrrr
Indeed, Risen was cheaper during the Summer sale. I'd wait it out for the Holiday sale to see if it hits that $10 price again.
Damn it, Risen should be $10 or under by now, grrrr
Agreed. It seems like every time it goes on sale it's 15 bucks. Maybe they'll finally lower the price more when the sequel hits.

Is there any way you can just view all the deals on one page? I don't want to have to look through all the pages because it seems the autumn deals are mixed up with the regular priced games.
Should I cop Portal 2 at 10 bucks? Or wait it out?
Depends on how desperate you are to play it. It's a daily deal today so it'll probably go up in price tomorrow. But it'll PROBABLY go on sale for Christmas, and possibly cheaper.

If you want to play it NOW though, go for it. I paid full price & it was totally worth it.
Indeed, Risen was cheaper during the Summer sale. I'd wait it out for the Holiday sale to see if it hits that $10 price again.
It was $15 during the Summer sale as well :(

Never been below $15
Should I cop Portal 2 at 10 bucks? Or wait it out?
If you are likely to play it right now, $10 is a steal. I loved that game.
Should I cop Portal 2 at 10 bucks? Or wait it out?
Considering it is only 66% off, I probably would wait it out. It probably will be back in the winter sale as well.

What do you think the chances are of repeat deals come the December sale?

I've had my eye on the Mass Effect universe for forever but won't have time to play both 1 and 2 before Christmas - if I hold out for one or both in the next sale, will I be disappointed?

Odd. No Capcom games seem to be discounted, not that discounts in the past have been anything to cheer about. Perhaps they've just decided to throw in the PC towel?

Yeah, I had my eye on Resident Evil 5. Damn.

Noooooooo!

My monies!

Will be grabbing Renegade Ops and Orcs Must Die!

I've already played through Portal 2 but I am tempted to get it for co-op.

I HIGHLY doubt they will go lower for a long time

I have a similar question...Has there ever been a Mass Effect combo pack? Also, is the Mass Effect 2 Deluxe edition worth it? I don't care about the art and movies. What about the included extra content?

I've had my eye on the Mass Effect universe for forever but won't have time to play both 1 and 2 before Christmas - if I hold out for one or both in the next sale, will I be disappointed?
The Mass Effects are frequently on sale for $5 to $10 from various places (Steam, D2D, Origin) so you can pick them up at leisure unless you're racing to get ready for ME3. I put in over 40 hours on single playthroughs of each on Xbox so it's not as if you aren't getting your money's worth. It's one of the few games I'm willing to drop full price on release day for because I know I'll get a commensurate amount of value.

No give-and-get promotion? That's disappointing, I always enjoy the achievement-hunting stuff they've been doing with every major sale for a while now.

Last year, the scavenger hunt began around the 5th of December, right after the Give-and-Get promo.

You are more likely to see that during the holiday sale. Thanksgiving is usually just straight sales.

Also don't forget, these are daily sales all weekend long... personally I wouldn't get it if its only 50-65% off. 75%+ are definitely a must if its on you're wishlist.
Cthulu Saves the World/Breath of Death and Faerie Solitaire are both a buck
I own Cthulu on 360 and my husband's Steam account has Faerie Solitaire.

Yet I want both of these games on my Steam account.

Damn it. I'm becoming one of you people.
No give-and-get promotion?
I'm hoping the mass quantity packs will start either tomorrow or Friday. 10 packs of games for $10 was a great idea they had.
Cthulu Saves the World/Breath of Death and Faerie Solitaire are both a buck
I picked up the CSTW/BOD pack. Not a daily deal but c'mon - it's a buck :) I ain't waiting for anything lower than that ;)

Faery Solitaire is a totally wonderful game. I get tired of general solitaire games after the first few clicks (MS Solitaire burned me out years ago, LOL) but this is a really nice take on the game. It's fun, relaxing, and a great price. Highly recommended.

What do you mean YOU PEOPLE?!?!

You mean if you receive a gift you want to gift it to someone else instead of taking it yourself? I don't think you can, if you don't accept it, the original gifter gets to give it to someone else instead at their discretion.
Totally love the FONV DLC prices, so hard to wait and see if they end up as daily deals.... other than that, not much I can see that I absolutely need to buy.
Same here. I could easily see NV and the DLC being a daily deal at another 15-25% off but I want it now! It's just hard for me to justify paying twice as much for the DLC as I did for the game.
Someone remind me. If I get a Steam gift, how do I add it to my giftable items? Just don't open the gift?
Yeah...I don't think you can do this, either. You can't send the gift to someone else because it's not tied to your account. The original gifter is the only one who can change who it is gifted to, until the gift is accepted.

It's time to add all of my Steam purchases since July to my favorites, so I can keep track of how many games I purchase during these upcoming sales. All 31 of 'em...
Yeah...I don't think you can do this, either. You can't send the gift to someone else because it's not tied to your account. The original gifter is the only one who can change who it is gifted to, until the gift is accepted.
I could have sworn Steam added a feature that lets you store gifts you receive instead of opening them.

So just to be clear, the daily deals are the ones featured on the main page with the timer. Everything else is just on sale and thus might get a bit cheaper if they become one of the daily deals later in the sale?
Cthulu Saves the World/Breath of Death and Faerie Solitaire are both a buck
I just bought Faerie Solitare. I already owned the double pack. I do like Solitare and the idea of having fun rpg mechanics with the game should be a good time. Plus it was $1
I could have sworn Steam added a feature that lets you store gifts you receive instead of opening them.
I believe you can buy games as gifts, and later gift them to yourself.
I could have sworn Steam added a feature that lets you store gifts you receive instead of opening them.
I know for sure that you can trade games in your inventory and games received stay in your inventory until you "unpack" them, which associates the game with your account.

Specifically, though, if someone sends you a gift the old way then I don't know for sure.

Summary: Have the person trade the gift to you so you can keep it in your inventory.

pretty sure if when you go to check out and select the purchase is a gift. When it asks you how you want to give it (e-mail or someone on your friends list) they added a new option at the bottom for storing gifts.
So just to be clear, the daily deals are the ones featured on the main page with the timer. Everything else is just on sale and thus might get a bit cheaper if they become one of the daily deals later in the sale?
Exactly. If it's not on a daily deal, you should wait until the last day to make the purchase.
Damn it, Risen should be $10 or under by now, grrrr
I was thinking the same thing when I saw that... this game has been on my wishlist since forever but man it doesn't get very cheap...

Quite frankly I'm glad it's a normal promotion and not the ten packs. I don't have/use paypal so I'd rather straight up solid discounts than having to trade/get in on multipacks.
Last year, the scavenger hunt began around the 5th of December, right after the Give-and-Get promo.
Really? I could sworn that one was later, and they had one for thanksgiving, too. These sale prices must be muddling my mind.
