Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Anyone here have any opinions on Two Worlds 2? Gamersgate has it for 7.50 and I really like Gamersgate since it is easy to add as a non-steam game. Do think it is worth 7.50 or is it pretty crappy?

Daily Deal

King's Bounty Platinum Edition $8.74 75% off includes the below
King's Bounty The Legend $3.74 75% off
King's Bounty Armored Princess $6.24 75% off
King's Bounty Crossworlds $4.99 75% off
King's Bounty Armored Princess + Crossworlds Bundle $7.49 75% off

Nightsky is getting an update called "Nightsky HD," which is great because I hate playing in that little window. The HIB download is the HD version but the Steam version isn't updated yet.

All of the games for $8.74 is too good to pass up. Helluva deal for 2 good games and an expansion.

For those that think $7 is too high apparently for the bundle, look at the quality listed there. It is unbelievable. It is not worth waiting to see if you can save a dollar or two, CAG or not. Supporting this great list of games, charity and the brand HB itself is worth it to me.

Welp, looks like I'm eating my words. This has to be deal of the year for me, and I already own SMB and GSB. Hat's off to HIB, they pulled off a serious bundle.

Agreed, tho it is about the same price as it has been in the past. Even the graphical glitch problem with ATI cards can be worked around. Right now, I have over 20 hours into it.

It is under $5 right now (and gave a little extra to get the bonus.)

i paid the $5. I only really wanted Shank, Jamestown and Cave Story+. Despite the bad reviews, Ive wanted Shank for a while now. I didn't even know it had steam achievements, so that's a plus. I played Cave Story for a few hours as homebrew on my psp a few years ago. I remember it being pretty fun. I was kinda hoping they would add the hd version to steam. I remember seeing screenshots for a 3d version of the game on one of the consoles. Either way, its fine. $5 is definitely worth it.
If only Jamestown would add online multiplayer at some point.

On a side note, Borderlands is downloading a 200mb update right now. I wonder what theyre adding.

Very nice bundle this time around. Already owned most of the games, but got it for Shank and Cave Story+. And for the chance that they might add the previous bundles at a later date.

It's nothing important. Just more of that stat-gathering stuff.

• Updated data collection system for BTest2. Visit http://labs.gearboxsoftware.com/ to learn more.
• Support all languages for BTest2 data collection.
• Data collection runs through January 31, 2012.

Holy fuck. I just checked the humble bundle and fuck. I been wanting to get Bit Trip Runner and Super Meat boy, plus all the extras. Holy shit, one hell of a bundle.

Honestly, I personally find this the greatest Humble Indie Bundle to date. Cave Story+, Bit.Trip Runner, Super Meat Boy, and Jamestown are all titles that I find A+, and worth every penny. I'm also happy with my "complementary" GSB copy. Been eyeing Space Battles for a bit, and was able to find it (with others) at a true CAG price! :D

I was in simply for Cave Story. Saw cave story. BUY.
Does anyone know at what price point it started out? I know the royale's start at 2.99$
Seems the price is rising fast for starting ~1.5 hours ago. I need to set up some elaborate texting alert to alert me for the next one.

There is no "starting" price point. The Humble bundles are always pay what you want. So... to get the average amount, figure out what the first person paid and then graph from there :)

I considered paying $5 for Shank during the fall sale but I eventually passed. I'm super-stoked about its inclusion.

I was also intrigued by Jamestown and Bit Trip Runner, and the HD update for Nightsky is a godsend.

Tremendous, tremendous bundle. Best one to date.

I don't have the HD update for Nightsky on Steam yet. Is it just a download from the Humble Site? I been wanting to play Nightsky because it's relaxing but my Steam copy is the same non HD version I think.

It hasn't updated on Steam yet, but the HIB direct download allows the option to obtain the HD version.

Click on Nightsky's graphic on the HIB front page: "Be the first to try the forthcoming free update to NightSky, NightSky HD! Try the first builds of NightSky HD available on the download section of your key page or feel free to download the traditional version of NighSky on Steam."

I agree that in terms of quality this might be the best bundle. The unfortunate part is that these are all big name indie games. One of the reasons that I like these is the introduction to games that I haven't heard of and would normally pass me by. Most of these games have already had good success. I'd rather see them anchoring their own bundles with some other more obscure stuff to try out.

This isn't a complaint. It's a great bundle and I bought it immediately. It's just missing part of what I think makes these bundles so good for indie devs.

Would have never known about this if not for CAG. Only game I have in the bundle is Super Meat Boy so the $6 I gave is a steal. The average price is still under $5 as of right now.

I really enjoyed Shank on PS3, one of the few PSN games I bothered to complete. I don't really care about the two bonus games so I might just pay under the average. I'm a little bit interested in Meat Boy but not really any of the others. Do these 2D games look okay at high resolutions? I just got a new monitor, 1920x1200.

Amazing bundle. Every single offering is something that I've enjoyed a lot, have heard much praise for, and/or was on my wishlist awaiting a good sale.

Would have bought it for Jamestown, but then seeing Cave Story+ included nudged it out as the reason to buy this. Put in more than the average about an hour ago.

Buy this. Buy this. Buy this.

Oh man, I should gift this to people as Christmas presents...

Am I correct that Super Meat Boy is not playable without a XBox 360 Controller?

I've been thinking about picking one up anyway based on some of the discussion here. Any wired XBox controller will plug into a Windows 7 USB port, right? Are there wireless options?

SMB is playable without the controller, but it feels a bit more floaty, for lack of a better term. I've been able to beat some of the easier Hell levels just on KB, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Any wired XBOX controller works on any windows system. Plain and simple. For the wireless first party controllers, you need a special receiver for it.

Yup, just plug any 360 controller into Win 7 (or Vista or XP, although the latter might need a driver downloaded) and it will work.

You can get one of these and use any Xbox 360 wireless peripheral with it, like Rock Band gear, headsets, controllers, etc.

They also come packaged with controllers. The controllers listed as "Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows" come with the dongle, but check the product description when buying to make sure.

I've heard that people buy the controller + receiver bundles, break them apart, and sell them separately on ebay. You may be able to get a new receiver only out of box cheap there, but I haven't checked for myself.

Great, thanks guys. I have some Gamestop giftcards what I wasn't sure what to do with since all my gaming's on Steam these days. I think I'll see if I can track down one of those Wireless for Windows packages.

First Indie bundle that I'm actually interested in. Already have Super Meat Boy, but what the hell, sold!

Now on to whether I should get Witcher 2 yet or not.

Awesome bundle. Buying.

About the 360 controllers on PC games, I started Bastion last nite, and wasn't happy with KBM (plus I've got sticky keys after my wife overPledged the desk), and wanted to use my old Logitech dualshock-style gamepad. No such luck, until a friend recommended the program x360ce, which basically masks your controller and makes games think you have a 360 controller.

Ok now that I have between the preholiday sales, Thanksigiving sales and humble bundle got all 6/6 games I wanted this season.......can we get the Christmas sale started so I can buy a bunch of stuff I didnt know I wanted! ;)

You can also use a Dualshock 3 or SIXAXIS controller combined with free Motioninjoy software to emulate a 360 controller, it's worked great in every game I've tried. The game doesn't know the difference. I used it plugged in via USB so I didn't have to buy any kind of receiver.

I know, I mean jesus christ in one week I ended up buying 19 indie games I didn't have in these bundles. I want the holiday sale to start to rape my wallet on games I didn't know I wanted.

Awesome HIB! Bought as soon as I got home from work. Been wanting Shank, Jamestown and Cave Story for awhile.

As for the Daily wishlist deal of King's Bounty. I highly recommend the game if you were a fan of Heroes of Might and Magic 1-4. It's turn based strategy/rpg just like those games. However there is none of the little micromanagement of towns those games had. This is all about going around, collecting items and amassing a massive army.

The King's Bounty deal doesn't seem too hot. Amazon had the Platinum edition for $5 a few weeks ago. I picked it up then. The game could really use a better tuturial, but I figured out a lot on my own. It's a super long game...

For some reason, I couldn't run Shank. It keeps telling me the key server is down. I was able to get Jamestown to run, so no problem with the key I entered...
