We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.
Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.

For those of you who care and just wanna make life a little easier. SAM (Steam Achievement Manager) works wonders, Google it. I got to level 21 last night, didn't register, and then I remember I had this installed from using it to re-lock achievements. Unlocked it, and got my present. ;) It's THAT easy.

Use at your own risk, I actually fulfilled this achievement, and therefore I don't feel so bad. However if you just bought that game and unlock it, it looks suspicious.

Just thought I'd share, because I love you all. :grouphug:
 
Duke Nukem Forever is that bad eh?

Might just be going with Psychonauts and Dungeons of Dredmor Complete here.
Psychonauts is well worth the $2.49 if you've never played. Lots of great feedback there.

Still can't believe I got Recettear for $1 last year. LoL

Came with one of those Indie packs for $5 from the November 2010 sale. I have yet to see them do those again, but they were fantastic. There's still the Humble Bundle #4 http://www.humblebundle.com/ $5.15 gets a dozen or so indies. Or you can get half for a donation of anything under $5.15. Would suck if someone gave $5.14 cause they didn't notice lol

Whomever decided that the coupons should be valid AFTER the sale is a fool. Why on earth would I wait until after the sale the use a coupon that probably won't give me a better price than buying the game now, during the sale. Major fail Steam ... Major fail.

Use Google, the achievements aren't up for prizes yet, but they're there nonetheless. You'll get the prize right away if you finish them ahead of time.

No problem, I personally like to wait and do them as they come. Funny thing is, Steam events like this give me a chance to actually try out the plethora of games that I have in my backlog. Each day brings a new set of games upon me, giving me just enough of a taste to be glad that I bought them all. ;)

Crap, I missed Metro2033 and Amnesia for $5, well does anyone know if Stalker Clear Sky is any good? I've been eyeing it but I'm not sure whether to bite or not.

For 4.99 it ain't that bad, though I don't know what the reload times are like for PC, for XBOX they were ridiculous. That being said, given your gaming pedigree (you don't like a lot), I can only imagine that Duke would be a hate-fest.

The Stalker series in general is good, even great. Clear Sky is the weakest of the 3 though but for the right price is a solid game

How long does that Psychonauts achievement take? If I don't do anything on my PC tonight I may get it downloaded for tomorrow morning, but I don't want to do that if it will take awhile to get it done.

It's a couple of hours in, unfortunately.

There is a save file you could download. it's up to you whether you want to cheat in an event that nets you free games.

oh god, the initial load times on Duke are terrible even on PC. Once it's loaded it's fine, but you might as well go make a sandwich when you first start the game.

Hated it, no redeeming qualities, honestly.
 
This seems like the worst I've ever seen Steam as I'm actually missing deals because their servers are completely broken. I cannot get past the cart screen and even if I kind of do, the next page is broken in some way that might as well just be an error page. I've missed out on Bunch of Heroes and Chantelise will probably be next.

My girlfriend just sent me all of her remaining coal, and we had enough to create an item. And I got 50% off Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey. I even own the game already.

Awesome.

Gave my friend 2 Coals cause he had 5 and he made a Psychonauts.


Also if you read under the sales, there are Golden Coupons that can be used during the Holiday Sale.

Oh I been cheating these achievements, but Psychonauts is one I will not cheat. I don't want to have a save a few hours in for that game and not know wtf is going on. I will save the full experience for when I do play it.

29 Achievements down and when DoD Source downloads that will be 30 :D. 29/30 of these I got in one day.

Well, I play a lot and like a lot too, I just am vocal about the things I don't because you can damn well bet I've played a sizable chunk of anything I didn't like too.
 
I had Duke Nukem in my cart until I remember that the new single player DLC for it has actually been getting some decent reviews and evidently picks up right after the main campaign. It just came out and is still $9.99 with no discount.

I think I'm going to wait until the inevitable $5-10 for Duke + both DLC packs. The game is bad enough that you know eventually it's going to happen and I've already waited this long.

dammit, this got me very exciting and then very sad :(

but srsly, jade empire has not gone on sale since (at least) april '10. it has been sitting in my wishlist since then, $14.99 staring back at me all the while.

Steam was really flaky for me this morning; it would keep resetting my cart, and on my second purchase of the day, I would get to the verification page and one of the games wouldn't quite show up. I persisted for awhile and eventually got everything I wanted.

I believe that the prize doesn't pop unless it has been presented as a daily challenge. Ex: my Dungeons of Dredmore prize was awarded, but my Bit.Trip.Runner one has not. BTR should award as soon as it is listed as a daily challenge.

I was able to get both Poker achievements. I basically sat and watched TV while folding every hand that didn't come up with at least one king. Took forever, haha. I said..."OK one last hand" and boom, I was dealt a king, and one came up in the flop and then one in the river. Pretty exciting.
 
I was going to net another handful of achievements tonight, but I accidentally went for Jamestown's and had too much fun with it for two hours. How unfortunate.

The annoying thing is I got one more achievment after doing this and it was another piece of coal. What happened to "dont worry you wont get any more coal?
 
You won't get coal as the gift for combining seven coal. Nowhere does it promise you'll stop receiving it as a random gift thereafter.

It's hardly worth combing coal, however, as you're still likely to get a coupon, and the coupons seem to be utterly useless whereas the coal gets you a chance to win the grand prize at the end.

I believe they meant that trading seven pieces of coal would not result in another piece of coal.
 
Got 3 coals today, from Psychonauts, Dungeons of Dredmor, and Spiral Knights. All 3 are fairly easy even if you've never touched the games before.
