Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Got the Sherlock Holmes collection. Always been a fan of Frogwares' games and to have it all for $8.74 is a pretty good bargain. I'd highly recommend the series for any adventure/mystery game fans.
*sigh* I was gonna get Portal 2, but for some reason I told myself I should hold off cuz I might get it from the gift pile... that was stupid.
I made the same mistake.

My hope is that it goes on sale in the next few months. Then I can stack a coupon on top of the deal to get it for cheaper than it was during this sale.

I take it the consensus is that Jurassic Park isn't all too good, right? Guess I can wait for 75% off. Might otherwise grab Payday or the Sherlock Holmes collection. Anyone have thoughts to sway me one way or another?
Any interest in or insight on The Ship?

It's $10 now, and when you buy it, you get two activations to give away, and whoever receives a gift one gets another gift one to give away. Interesting deal.
I bought this when it first came out and had LOTS of fun with it. Bloody Good Time is the better version of The Ship. Unfortunately, both games lack gamers now and I heard the developers are not around to support the game anymore.

Unless there are more players/servers now, I wouldn't spend $10 on it.

13 coal, 50% off Dino D-Day, 25% off Valve game, some other coupons for games I already have. I have completed every objective except Payday, which I am downloading now.
Not really. Because you can't use these coupons until AFTER the sale is over.
That may be the case, but if they stack with daily deal discounts, that's good enough for me.
Added you, or attempted to, Steam's being wonky.
Invited. ;)

Maybe I am reading that wrong, but are they essentially allowing an infinite amount of activations to be passed through friends. If ANYONE that receives an activation is given an extra to gift then could this not go on forever?

It's Heavy Rain + Jurassic Park, and it's really awesome.

I read the metacritic page for Jurassic Park today. The reviews were not glowing. Not my kind of game, but those reviews would have scared me off if I'd been considering buying it.

I love Jurassic Park just because of the story, the gameplay is very mediocre in comparison to Heavy Rain, but the story fits right in with the JP movies and is quite fantastic and totally worth the purchase price.

Well, it seems like the new owners of the game are trying to revive it with this activation giveaway. Who knows what the support behind it will be, though.

That was my first reading of it, and I'm not sure if it's right or wrong.

Edit: Speaking of Bloody Good Time, it looks like that's on sale for $3.34, bu no free extra passes.

Most reviews for these type of games I toss right out the window. It is not a genre that typically reviews well on a lot of sites, even with the best of games in it.

However, you already know it is not your type of game, so with that being the case, I think you made the right choice in passing.

Ok this Dungeon Defenders one is going to take a lot of work to get to the point where you can do it, a lot of hours.

Although I am in love with Dungeon Defenders so I could care less :D. Hopefully it goes daily really soon so I can get some other friends to buy it so we can 4 player it. Right now it's me and another friend.

Jurassic Park is nothing like Heavy Rain ... except they both use QTEs ... it's an insult to Heavy Rain to compare it to Jurassic Park The Game ... if you want a mediocre movie with poor animation and button presses that mean nothing and have no bearing on the actual story, aside from having you replay that section ... then buy Jurassic Park

I'm pretty sure it would stop at 5 activations total. Basically A gives to B and C. B gives it to D. C gives it to E. I may be interested in this if we can figure out a way to treat it as a 5 pack so $2 each.

Speaking of gifts. I havent had much luck either. I have gotten 33% off Valve, 50% off San Andreas, and 11 pieces of coal which I turned 7 of which into an Orange Box. Granted Orange Box is a great thing to get if you didnt have it already but I'd say at this point almost everyone does.

Yeah man, it's fuckin Jurassic Park... I mean come on, DINOS!? Yes, please! :D

Let me know, I'd DEFINITELY be interested in that.

Mannn, stop enabling guys. I'm trying to not spend a lot. Stop appealing to my inner JP-nerd to get this expensive game with promises of a good story. It will only end in tears for my wallet.

Be honest with yourself. Would you not rather wait for a 75% discount? I would! Plus, we all have games to play until then.

I must be the only one here that didn't have Orange Box lol, had to trade one of my gifts to get it. So far I've obtained The Witcher Enhanced Edition, Two Worlds 2, Portal, Half Life 2 Episode 2, and 12 pieces of coal (turned 7 into The Witcher).

As for coupons, I think the best I got was Skyrim 33% off, and 50% off valve titles. I guess I could've gotten worse. Not sure what I'm going to do with Portal and HL2 EP2, no one wants them because most already have them, and Portal was free a couple of times..

I know this isn't the trading thread (SHUT UP ALREADY!), but I'll host and organize if 4 people PM me with interest ($2 a piece).

It says anyone that receives a gift activation is then given an extra to gift to someone else. So how would it stop, unless they don't consider anything past the initial gifts as gift activations.

It sounds like anyone gifted a purchased version of the game is essentially given a second copy to gift.

Because how is the copy being gifted any different from C to E as it from A to C? Both were gifted and as such both should be given a second copy

6 coals in a row after the initial "click here for a freebie" coupon. And I don't have a clue what the Cargo one is based on the description - still have that and Anomaly: WE to try and get from the games I already own.

That's no small run of luck. I've gotten some mediocre coupons (Oh boy, 50% off Capsized or Assassin's Creed 2!) and 4 pieces of coal. That's it. Not a single game. Humbug, I say. I may convert the coal, but I've seen some horror stories (e.g. 10% off a Deep Silver game coupon). May just play the giveaway odds.

Oh well. I can scratch a game off my wishlist thanks to a trade with ddog, and I'll be grabbing NWN2 and maybe the Sherlock Holmes collection. At least the prices are still good (except you, Witcher 2.)
You know, I didn't expect to see so much interest in the Sherlock Holmes collection. It seems like half of us are buying it. That warms my cockles.
Is it good? I've been itching for a game w/ a good story. How does it compare to other "mystery" games like LA Noire or Heavy Rain in terms of story?

I just bought it, so I can't give you a first hand review. However, the games seem to be rather well regarded (particularly Jack the Ripper and Awakened) in the realm of mystery/adventure games.

Purchase The Ship during the sale and receive two extra activations to send to your friends! Additionally, any user that receives a gift activation will be able to give one additional activation to a friend.

It is a bit ambiguous but I'd venture to guess that when they said "will be able to give one additional activation" they meant total and not continuous but yes its confusing. Steam is very capable of making the distinguishment and not giving copies after that point but this one may surprise me and that would be good for all of us.

The only complaint I have heard is that Nemesis is not the superior remastered version. But i have also heard it is so I'm not sure.

Three more achievements done tonight, three more pieces of coal. The Grid Defense one was tougher than I thought it was going to be. I thought I got it the first time, but then I found I was a few thousand points short of gold. Then I screwed up twice and lost a core. 4th time was the charm.

I'm still thinking about Grotesque Tactics. I know the first game was buggy, but the concept appeals to me, particularly since I've been playing a lot of Fire Emblem on my phone lately.
atreyuevr is the only one to pm me about The Ship so far? fuck you guys
Sorry as cheap as it is it feels like the type of game that would just sit in my collection and not get played.

I fail to see the problem ;)

I HAVE two copies of The Ship to give away. I'd like to trade but I can't imagine anything copies of The Ship would be worth.

Anyway, at least PM me and see if you can barter/plead/wheedle my copies of The Ship out before you go buy more.

EDIT: Well, that went fast. Lemme get to these PMs

Nothing for me from today's batch, though I did decide to grab The Witcher during its final 4 hours on sale for two and a half bucks.

After yesterday's marathon achievement run, I couldn't feel bothered to go for any more today. Got a 25% SEGA coupon for having already done GoGraxia's and a piece of coal for joining the holiday group.

In typical CAG fashion, I saw it was $2 and was about to PM you. Then I looked on the product page and read this:
is primarily a multiplayer, online murder game

fuck that ship. I'd rather buy something else that I can play by myself. :booty:

There's also a single player version that has some kind of a story ;)

I've got Counter Strike: Source if someone needs it. Only trading for games.

So didn't really buy anything today.

Other goodies I got:
3 Coal
50% off PokerNight at the Inventory (save them pennies!)
66% off Singularity (not as low as the Daily, but a good 2nd chance for someone who missed)

Ok, after reading the description of SH - Nemesis, I'm tempted. I've read some of the original Arsene Lupin novels, including the stories where he's pitted against Sherlock Holmes, and those stories were pretty fun.
That may be the case, but if they stack with daily deal discounts, that's good enough for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately avoid daily deals on the games that had coupons, for the next three months after the sale.

Lol yeah I count on that, but the only problem is that there are publisher discounts too (i.e. Valve discount, Bethesda discount). Doubt they'll exclude all of those games from dailies too.

I have a coupon for Singularity which was a Daily Deal on Day 1 for 75% off. Coupon is 66% off tho lol, too bad it's not 75%+
Who wants my 50 percent off Valve and 50 percent off Oblivion GOTY? I'll take some coal ?
I remember you. We met on here 3 or so years ago during Black Friday season. We discussed some strategy towards some sort of deal in the wee hours of the CAG chat, I think.

Heh. I...don't seem to remember that strategy thing :D

I'm still torn on the Mount & Blade Pack as well as Sherlock Holmes. Don't get me wrong, I want both packs, but I hate tying up that much money, when I can get other games for $1.24 or $2.49. Argh.
