We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.

I will definitely add you when Steam starts functioning on my end in the community section lol. I got a few useless coupons I can swap for the achievement.
 
If I won the every game prize and it was a giftable single item, I'd put it up on auction with proceeds going to charity. No way I need all those games myself. I'd rather it go to those in need then sitting on a virtual shelf I own.

I'm having the exact same problem. I just did the Frozen Synapse achievement as well. I either get the error that the page cannot be loaded, or I get a blank inventory.

EDIT: Never mind, just loaded. More coal.

Anyone having trouble doing trades? I hit up one of my "friends" and we got errors on all 8-10 attempts. Need to do a coal for coal trade.

I have tried to trade with 3 different people and it hasn't worked yet, it getting really frustating

I kinda had that same problem. I just bought Torchlight then later on during the day I finished the Bit.trip.Runner Trine achievement, then I got Torchlight as my gift.........

They've had good deals on smaller games like Avadon and EYE, but not any of the bigger games.

I think we should keep tabs of who got the worst game and coupon and then when the sale is over, then those CAG's will be immortalized in the Steam thread as the people with the worst luck :lol:

Also EYE is buggy and crashes a bit. This would not be a problem except when you crash on singleplayer, you basically restart the whole level because there is no way to save your game besides the damn auto save at the end of each level.

This is approaching the failness of the 6th Anniversary of D2D "sale." I'm super backlogged on games, so it's going to take a killer deal to get me to add to the pile, but this has been ridiculous.

Bought Deus Ex: Human Resource for $10 last night from A'zon and plugged the key into Steam, mocking their $33.50 "sale" price. Am getting Red Dead Redemption GOTY from Beast Buy for $20, albeit for Xbox. What's Steam had? $5 Mass Effects? A couple years late on that, kids. $15 Rage? Call me when it's

Verify the cache and turn off Gore in the options. One of those things may fix it, but I did them both (Verified multiple times and had to download new things like 3 different times) and now it runs like a champ. I can actually see the opening video now!
 
Honestly, I've been a big fan of Steam and always praised them ... but they've really dropped the ball this year. Between the store and steam inventory issues that have been problematic since the start of the sale and then the fact that coal is being turned into worthless coupons or people are receiving games they already own ... maybe I'm alone in this, but the holiday sale meta-game just doesn't seem very fun this year.

On top of all that, the sales prices are frankly weak ... Amazon has actually beaten Steam on several deals this past week ... and just in general, it doesn't feel like this year's sale is reaching the same level of amazing savings that past years have. Hopefully I'll eat my words in the next few days ... but I'm sad to say that this year has left me somewhat disappointed in Steam and Valve's ability to compete with newcomers like Amazon and Origin.
 
Adding an achievement involving the inventory was a terrible idea considering how bad it is running. If they do another that involves the inventory then somebody as Valve needs to get stabbed.
 
Doesn't the developers set the prices for the Holiday sale and not Steam itself? I mean I can see the weak coupon metagame, but even I find that kinda fun.

I think places like Amazon set their own prices so they might take a loss on sales.
 
Anyone want to go in on Frozen Synapse? Noticed it's 2 copies ... I'm sure you guys have been discussing this all morning, but if anyone else missed the boat and wants to split the cost, just let me know. Cheers

Tried E.Y.E. and it wasn't for me at all. The interface is totally convoluted and beyond horrible. It's clearly a Source game and it plays more like a Half Life 2 mod. Lots of reading tiny text, poor choices. It's definitely a game for people that adore the genre. I loved Deus Ex, which it's clearly trying to ape, and I couldn't uninstall this fast enough.

I can't really comment on the deals because I own pretty much everything I want. However, I think the summer event was really fun. I enjoyed earning tickets and then picking out exclusive prizes and DLC. Also every ticket was worth an entry into the drawing whether you used it to claim a prize or not. It was well done, and I bought a few games in that sale that I normally would not have just so I could use the "exclusive" prizes I got. That's the point, to encourage steam users to buy MORE games.

This promotion so far has not encouraged buying, if anything it deters it. People might want to save their coupons and sit out on a winter daily deal in hopes of combining their coupons with a normal daily deal at a later post-sale date.
 
I have question guys , Is DOTA 2 "Just" a beta key , Or will you ge the full game when it comes out , I assume the Former , but hoping for the latter.

It's both, early on it was misrepresented as an ATI thing.
 
Too much negativity towards E.Y.E. in here. I think it's great, especially for $2.50. Within 20 minutes of playing the game, I was dual wielding an automatic pistol and a katana, in a cyber church surrounded by angelic techno monk-knights in armor and Raiden hats and crowns, speaking in a weird language about cyber-brains. Have I mentioned I like the setting yet?
