Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I feel the same way. Controls take some getting used to as well, it just feels so unresponsive at 1900x1200 resolution. If I lower the res, the controls are a bit better, which seems weird.

On the other hand, I finally won a game with the RoA achievement (Binding of Isaac). BoI is quite fun, but it seems the holiday achievement for that game is ridiculously more time consuming than the majority of the other holiday achievements. I got frustrated trying to get it after an hour and quit haha.
Yeah, the trick is to not jump too high over each of the pillars. If you do it's counted as going out of bounds/falling into a pit and you die. It took me a few tries but it's actually pretty easy.
I tried the jumping over the pillars trick but the game just crashes once I touch bandage girl (every single time).... looks like I'll have to do it legit, which kinda sucks since those SMB levels are really, really hard

Because it's an indie game. Indie games are so kewlz because it's different~!!!1 That's the impression I got from what it looks like, at least. Although at the sale price it's hard to truly regret it if you don't like it.

Jamestown has been an amazing purchase, btw :D
Did the And Yet It Moves achievement and got 10% off Valve. :wall:
I hate that game so much and only play it during sales for achievments

What bothers me is that everything has to be 90 degrees and if you hit the wrong key you're stuck slowly going back the other way
Bah

I enjoyed the game and beat it some months ago. It works far better with a controller, imo. It's wonky but creative.

Picked up Anomaly, so that's to be in the next Indie bundle of some sort, of course. Also grabbed Bulletstorm and RF:A.

Slowly whittling away at my wishlist. Feels good.

Sums up my feelings well. I didn't know much about it going in, as I got it from some bundle or another. I just found it irritating. There's a je ne sais quoi about it that rubs me the wrong way. I'm not sure if it's the artstyle, that grating death sound, or just the frustration when things didn't quite work how you thought but I was glad to see the end of it after the achievement popped.
For the Beat Hazard achievement, there is an easy glitch method (if that's your thing).
I'm having massive problems with this game, which sucks as I really enjoyed it the last time I played. I'm having to use a couple threads on the forum. Uninstalling my game, switching Steam to offline mode, entering command files in a text doc for the game...

Finally got it to run, then it froze again. We'll see.
I don't get this Rock of Ages praisal. It looks kinda boring to me. Creepy, even.
I played it last night. It is kinda a competitive Marble Madness where your opponent puts obstacles in your way to keep you from getting to the bottom and vice versa. It took me a while to realize that. The controls were frustrating me until I realized that, and took a more controlled approach to getting down the hill to the goal.

The art style is very similar to Terry Gilliam's animated sequences for Monty Python, so that has some attraction for me as well.

So conflicted. Should I buy Bastion or hold off? I need to decide very soon since I'm leaving in a half hour to go somewhere with crappy cell service and won't be back until late night.

Eh. Screw it. *buys*
I don't get this Rock of Ages praisal. It looks kinda boring to me. Creepy, even.
All I have to say is...
Damn cows! Damn them! Damn them to hell!

But I do enjoy the game as a turn off your brain and enjoy type of game.
Also, just get Sonic unless you can't see yourself paying more than $5. It's worth it.
I actually broke my $5/game cap just to buy Sonic Generations. I'm not all that great at Sonic games, but it's one game that I decided I want to play sooner rather than later.

My 5 dollar cap has not been breached. Dues ex had me waivering but I held off
The Beat Hazard achievement is pretty bad. Why even have the 5 minute achievement, to piss me off that I didn't reach 10 minutes? And it has to be 10 minutes of CHRISTMAS MUSIC, the shit I put on headphones in stores to avoid?

I love Beat Hazard, but that shit isn't happening.
... or you can put your headphones on the desk and listen to silence like I did. Works just fine.

Of all the F2P games I had to play to get the achievements, Rusty Hearts was by far my favorite. It was like an old school PS2 button mash beat em up fest. I just didn't like the load times and after a while of spamming A,S,D and X I really wished I set it up for a controller.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Rusty Hearts was the only one I even liked. Haven't tried Champions yet but it's installed and my account is set up.

Anyone got RUSH? It shows up in the list of holiday achievements on that site. I just did it, but it takes AGES. You practically need to finish the whole game before you get it :/

Now let's hope it actually appears in the next days.
Bastion is wonderful. Everyone loves it.
I'm feelin' the peer pressure.

For me, I'm going to wait for the inevitable $2.50 or even Indie Bundle inclusion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a Super CAG. Unfortunately, I know I won't get to Bastion before the next sale.

That's the story I'll stick with.

Just done the Beat Hazard achievement.

That was actually quite hard, harder than it needed to be methinks. I had to play the normal version of the game a few times to build up enough cash so that I could basically give myself an extra few lives for the Xmas Survival run. 10 minutes of survival is bad enough, but 10 minutes of bad Xmas music made it even harder.

Not for the faint-hearted.

I don't think that's a bad approach. I thought Bastion was fun, but I didn't think it was super amazing. I still have a couple things to do in the game (including the DLC), but I haven't really gone back yet, because the game got very monotonous after a while.

Trick to enjoying And Yet It Moves in 3 easy steps:
Step 1: switch the key mapping on the camera rotate keys so left is right and right is left
Step 2: Room now turns right when you press right and left when you press left, what a concept!
Step 3: Profit

I love that game and as I said before logged over 22 hours in it.

With a controller that game is an old fashioned beat'em up with some light RPG elements.

I'm glad it got on the list so people could try it out

I had to reverse the flipping before it made sense to me as well. I kept killing my guy before I did that. The basic controls just aren't intuitive to me.

Thanks for showing us the way, Mr. Owl. I myself ended up doing the same thing while grabbing the Shown White Objective/Achievement. In the end, I may return to the game at some point, but I didn't get addicted to And Yet it Moves either.

This is a categorical necessity for you guys trying to get that achievement or if you're just trying to enjoy the game.

I'm not a big fan of And Yet It Moves. I downloaded someone else's profile from the Steam forums and it only took me about 2 minutes to get the achievement. Those forums have been a great resource for me to get achievements in games that I don't enjoy much or, in the case of Psychonauts, games that I like but don't want to start an actual game of right now.

I'm with ya. I actually played through the levels and it was the first achievement I've gotten for this event that just felt like a chore. It's a fun concept, but the art style just rubs me the wrong way.

I was able to learn the control scheme just fine. It's not that hard to figure out. And around halfway through the level, there's a part where you have to ride a branch down to another area. It's a very easy achievement to get.

I just tried Bulletstorm, and it is horribly amusing; I think I'm going to enjoy it. I would like to thank the CAG's that gave feedback on the game prior to my purchasing.

I didn't realize it was an EA game, though - I've never been a fan of those Unskippable Elongated EA Logo Intro Movies (I'll call them "UEEALIM's" from now on.), though. Still, I consider it a minor thing when the game is as fun and good-looking as Bulletstorm. At $5, I recommend it to other CAG's, as well.

First Steam purhcase this sale: Sonic

will go in my backlog, but it's shorter than just about anyting else so I see it as a quick run through when I'm not feeling like anything else.
I am so tempted to buy it, but it would also go in my backlog, and I figure I can pickup the game for as cheap or cheaper later when I can get to it. I have had a lot of times when I buy a game and then see it go way cheaper before I've even been able to get to it. :p

I was thinking about getting it but I ultimately decided that I don't want want to support Team 17 anymore. They make buggy, amateurish games and they're known for dallying when it's time to fix their products.
