Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Do any of the Prince of Persia games let you use the 360 controller? (I would assume the new two do but not sure about the fires t 3)

I picked up Star Wars: Empire at War as I never played it. Based on the first 30 minutes of the tutorial I'm going to really love this game.
The video for solar 2 made me think of osmos a little bit.
It is kinda like Osmos and once tried the demo I confirmed it. I really liked Osmos before it got batshit crazy hard so I bought Solar 2. Haven't played much but it seems fun.

Just got done with a bit of Solar 2, and I'm really digging it. Huge props to the developer, considering it was a one man job done in 10 months. Great visuals, music, and mechanics all coming from one guy.
Lol. You are really challenging me but i think I could think of at least a few ;)
Well, it turns out the 3DS browser couldn't handle the fancy Steam page with it's shifting tabs when you click on the game links. It could show the first page, but subsequent tab-shifts failed.

So I had to wait until I got home to see the deals. I'm 6 hours late! Noooo!
Dejobaan complete pack is silly. Aaaaah For the Awesome REPLACES Aaaah A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. And 1 2 3 Kick It is a forever unfinished tech demo. Just get For The Awesome.
After reading through this thread, I finally understand what Aaaaah for teh Awesome is. I was wondering why people were referring to Aaaaaaaah! as For the Awesome. Didn't know the original game got a sequel.

Thanks to everyone for mentioning the Dejoban pack. I'll likely get that at the end of the sale if there's not a daily sooner.
The dialog and voice acting is, well, let's just say that if I wanted to hear people talk to each other like that I'd hang out with my emo cousins. My eyes can't roll any further back in my head.
I cracked up at this. :lol:
The video for solar 2 made me think of osmos a little bit.
For now Dejobaan Complete Pack with the gundemonium collection on the maybe at the end of the sale list.
For some added sale related fun you could try messing around with this website a bit. Since you're spending time doing achievements for a somewhat similar result. http://www.steamgifts.com/
Don't pick up Gundemonium Collection just yet. All of the games have winter achievements, so it's a possibility they'll be in a daily deal for 75% off.

Just did my Sequence achievement and got 33% off A Game of Thrones. First useful coupon so far, assuming I can find someone after the sale ends who wants to buy it.
I'm tempted to get Bastion but that is a game that seems to scream Humble Bundle at some point in the foreseeable future.
Internet hivemind seems to feel that because it's backed by a major publisher, the chance of it ending up in a bundle is fairly low. It's not impossible (see: Shank), but I wouldn't hold my breath.

After reading this thread, I expected the dialogue for Sequence to be as bad or worse than Chaos Wars. While the delivery is a little dry, and the joke to content ratio is a bit on the high side, I think it's not half bad. I'm getting used to the tab switching, but the game is pretty cool. Reminds me of puzzle quest, the way the genres are blended.

Yep this is what I am banking on. I am pretty sure if all 3 games go on sale, I will expect at least 75% if not more.

indeed part of why it's on the maybe at the end of the sale list though somewhat doubting we will see lower than $5 for the three can hope.
Dialog in Sequence was amusing though voice acting seemed bit off and bah 50% OFF Monday Night Combat.

Grabbed Star Wars Jedi Knight pack, Gothic Universe pack, Sequence and PoP:TSoT for $13 and change. That seemed a bit high as I hate spending more than $10 a day if I can help it, until I realized I was getting 10 games for that amount. This is why I love Steam sales.

Im about to pull the trigger on the Jedi Knight pack but the 3 older games (Dark Forces, Dark Forces 2, and Mysteries of the Sith) are keeping me from buying the pack. The graphics are just sooo dated I don't know if I would ever play those 3. Are they worth getting too or should I just go with Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy?
Bleah. Wrote a recommendation and got another piece of coal, bringing my total to 8.
Hey, I got that many too! But that's okay, I'm working on the assumption that the super meat boy coupon from the first 7 will spontaneously become Elder Scrolls VI. It's gonna happen.

I'm looking for some region pricing help. The Dawn of War Platinum pack and Soulstorm xpac are cheaper in Euros. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Hey, I got that many too! But that's okay, I'm working on the assumption that the super meat boy coupon from the first 7 will spontaneously become Elder Scrolls VI. It's gonna happen.
Your hoping a Super Meat Boy coupon will become an unreleased and undeveloped game? Not sure why you would hope for air.

I went and picked up Rock of Ages during the sale today. It's pretty fun, though I'm still learning how to build effectively during defense mode. The story mode antics never fail to bring a smile to my face. The Monty Python-eque humor is in full force, so this could be the best game the Python troupe never made.

The funny thing is that ACE Team went and customized all their multiplayer characters for Christmas. So you might have Louis XIV dressed up as Santa Claus (easier than you might think), or Zombie Plato & Aristotle (with requisite Christmas caps). My personal favorite is Giovanni d'Medici, with elf ears and a red cape. The derpy expression, I think, came from the original portrait.

All in all, $2.50 well spent.
Is sequence worth 1.25?
Totally. Only game on Steam I've ever bought at full price (or nearly full price, it might have been 10% off, being release week). First game since FFVII (when I was like 13) that I've stayed up until 7AM playing. Only game I've ever "recommended to friends" on Steam. Today, rather than writing a new recommendation for the winter objective, I elected to re-recommended Sequence.

Developer is cool, too. Despite it originally being an Xbox Live game, he listened very closely to the PC crowd after the Steam release, and released some of the quickest patches and new features I've ever seen for a game.

Some people that are uber-hardcore Beatmania/etc. players said they found it a bit easy (although there was a bug the first couple of days that changed some people's difficulty to easy, so they might have been affected by that), but if you're not one of those, there's plenty of challenge to be had.
Your hoping a Super Meat Boy coupon will become an unreleased and undeveloped game? Not sure why you would hope for air.
You could have declared that you didn't get the sarcasm in fewer words.
Is sequence worth 1.25?
I haven't played it for long but I vote yes.

Edit: Yeah, there's probably a 100% chance this ends up in an indie bundle. But what if you buy it, do the achievement and win Skyrim. Bet you didn't think of that.

Two questions, anyone know why Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 is not on Steam? And can anyone who owns Republic Commando tell me what the max display resolution is?
Is sequence worth 1.25?
Decide whether or not even an extremely awful game would have as much entertainment value as a bag of m&ms and you'll have your answer.

I think it's a fairly entertaining take on rhythm games. The tutorial dialogue makes me want to punch myself in the face though.
Is sequence worth 1.25?
Yes, definitely worth the 1.25. I just got off from playing for about 2 hours. The music is awesome (Ronald Jenkees). There's voice acting and it's witty. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll have to rest my eyes. I'm starting to get that vision I used to get from playing Guitar Hero.
I would bet it hits an indie bundle at some point. I'm holding off even at 1.25.
And you're missing out. This game is WELL worth the $1.25. Easily up there with Puzzle Quest, Super Meat Boy and others for a fantastic indie game. While I'd agree it SHOULD be in an indie bundle, you're seriously missing out if you're going to wait for that to possibly happen...

Edit: Did anyone answer my question to whether the AaaAAAaaaaAAAAaaaaAAAA games have been on sale for 75% for the entirety of the sale, or if that looks to be a one-day thing?
This is exactly the opposite of Bulletstorm then where I think the voice acting is great but the dialog is awful. "I'm going to shoot your dick, you dick!"
I thought it was "I am going to kill your dick, you dick!"

So, my Inventory now holds:
6 pieces of coal;
33% off any one Valve game;
50% off Hacker Evolution: Untold;
50% off Psychonauts [already own this game from Retail];
50% off Silent Hill: Homecoming [already own this game from Steam];
50% off Supreme COmmander 2 [already own this game from Steam];
2 gifts for The Ship [since I've owned The Ship game for a VERY long time];
and Half-Life 2: Episode 1 [since I already owned HL2: Ep 1 when I bought The Orange Box, some time ago].

I have unpacked and kept:
Space Empires V

It says on the games' pages "HOLIDAY SALE! Offer ends January 2nd." Were it a daily, it would indicate the number of hours remaining.
Is sequence worth 1.25?
I hate rhythm/music games, but I spent the 1.25 to see what it was about, and I was plesantly surprised.

It's a shame there isn't a demo on this one so people could see what it's about.

Is anyone else getting ridiculously slow download speeds? I've been getting slow speeds all yesterday and now today I'm not getting any speed whatsoever.
TWEotW is an average Katamari clone. 1,2,3 Kick It is a terrible pre-alpha quality tech demo and is the reason I will not be giving Dejobaan any more of my money in the foreseeable future.
Yeah, I agree about Kick It - no excuse for even selling that at this point. Everyone owning it should get a free upgrade to the AAAaaAAa remake.

Save yourself a penny and just buy AAAaAaA Awesome and TWEOTW. Awesome contains an upgraded AaaAAa for the most part and 1,2,3 Kick It will haunt your steam library like a lifeless abandoned child.

This is off topic, but it's in regards to Steam essentially so I'm gonna go ahead and ask. I've pretty much got hooked on WoW for a few years and have ignored what was going on in the video game world..... um... do stores not sell the wireless receiver that plugs into your USB so you can use your 360 Wireless controllers? We actually have 2 of those new silver ones with the sexy D-Pad...and I want to use that. No to mention that we have like 5 or 6 controllers somehow.. I don't want to buy yet ANOTHER controller :(
OFFS!!! Did the Jamestown one legitimately (i.e. didn't download the save file) and I'll give you one guess as to what I got? Pffft.
Good lord, people download the save file to even do the Jamestown one?

I've never seen one. Had to order mine from Amazon.

it seems like the ones on Amazon are all 3rd party. Are these ok for third party? :whistle2:| I mean.. I have a $20 Amazon GC... the what's "supposed" to be official white one is $21.99, whereas the wired black is $29.99.

Yeah, that I don't understand. SMB, Fate of the World, etc., I can understand. Jamestown? That took me, starting from scratch, like 30 minutes. And it was a ton of fun doing it, as well. Looking forward to (eventually) getting back to that game. (My god, the backlog... why are there so many games? WHHYYYYY?)

Agreed. I had been needing an excuse to finally boot up Jamestown and I am very glad I did. Like you said, it barely takes any time at all and it gave me a better appreciation for the game. I definitely will be going back to it soon.

Yeah the only one I used a save file for was Fate of the World, because I wasn't in the mood to play through it to get the achievement.. However Jamestown was pretty fun and doesn't take long to get the achievement. I don't understand why anyone would use a save file for it.
