Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Non-Steam but there was discussion of Saboteur earlier. I installed it and there's a deauthorize machine option if you right-click it in start menu>games. The only control pad problem I ran into was when you drive the triggers rotate the camera as well as control your speed. The fix is to not plug in your pad til after the game has started up. Works fine after that. Have not tried the key on Origin cause I haven't installed Origin. Oh yeah and the console DLC is built in.

If you missed the earlier post, Saboteur is $5 on D2D today and is a game they don't sell on Steam.
Just bought Lost Planet 2. What motivates me to buy these awful, awful games? What is my problem? I barely avoided buying Duke, Hard Reset, and EYE this sale.
I liked Hard Reset. EYE wasn't my cup of tea, though. Hard Reset was fun though.
is Fallout New Vegas graphically better looking on PC compared to Xbox?
Yep, especially with mods. There are some good hi res ones if you've got the rig for it.

Honestly though, the old bethesda engine is just kind of ugly over all.
is Fallout New Vegas graphically better looking on PC compared to Xbox?
Yes, but it's the load times that are MUCH better on a decent PC.
I liked Hard Reset. EYE wasn't my cup of tea, though. Hard Reset was fun though.
I haven't finished Hard Reset but I've enjoyed what I have played of it. I only played EYE for maybe 20 minutes. It's not a game you can jump right into.
is Fallout New Vegas graphically better looking on PC compared to Xbox?
Absolutely! And that's not even counting the hi-rez texture packs the mod community put out. This comparo has a video comparison between the Xbox and PC versions and the rest of the article shows that texture compression makes the Xbox inferior to the PS3 version. I can't imagine playing Fallout without some mods. If you've got a good PC, why not go for the best visuals and mouse+keyboard controls.

I'm so tempted to get Fallout: NV, but a voice in the back of my head is telling me it'll be a year before I get to it with how many games I've gotten lately and it'll be cheaper then.

I need one more present in DoD: S but my game keeps crashing...

I can suicide a few times and then it crashes with "hl2.exe has stopped working"...

Damn the Source engine's bugginess!!
I liked Hard Reset. EYE wasn't my cup of tea, though. Hard Reset was fun though.
I've got to agree. I started it and surprisingly I kept going! Actually played a few hours of it right of the bat!

Gah, Hard Reset's combat just wasn't anywhere close to as good as Serious Sam or Painkiller. Too many boring damage sponge enemies, not enough fun.

Yay for Fallout New Vegas sale! Finally got the DLC! The game is still on my backlog (I've had main game for a while), but I feel better about diving in now that I have all the DLC and can just tackle it all together (that's what I did with Fallout 3).

Definitely buy Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics from GOG if you have the choice. I don't think there is one time I've purchased something from Steam instead of GOG when given the option, even if it costs a little more for reasons stated: the fact that they get games to work on modern hardware and OS, the extra stuff, and their DRM-free model.

I just bought Universe Sandbox for my brother-in-law a day or two ago... I didn't think it would be a daily deal... Oh well, only $2.50 difference. I'm glad to support the developers on this one.

Still want to pickup Battlefield BC2: Vietnam for cheap as a daily deal as well as Galactic Civilizations II and Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity. Other than that, I'm pretty much done, though they can still get me on some cheap indies...
I'm trying to get the SMB achivement, and wondering who is this guy I'm playing as?
The Kid, protagonist of noted freeware indie frustration platformer I Wanna Be The Guy. These levels are straight out of the IWBTG spike-laden playbook, except for NOT having apples flung at you at every non-spike piece of ground so that you can't actually stop, and for having SMB's floaty slippery annoying wall jumping physics
It took a few tries, but I was able to connect to get the levels.
Though it being obtainable is still a question. From what I've read you need to be very good at the game to have a hope of getting it.

Obtainable meaning possible. Yes, it's possible. No, it's not easy.

I still can't connect either way. Kind of a bummer.

I guess I'm not buying The Saboteur. Each time I try to purchase it, I get this message:

"Your transaction will require review by a Customer Service Agent. Please contact Customer Service for further information. We apologize for this inconvenience."

I doubt they could clear this up before the deal expires. Sigh. This totally defeats the purpose of buying games online.

Yeah - gave up on them after receiving the same message. Trying posting on the Amazon downloads thread to get them to PM the $5 price. I posted there already.

Is anyone else getting an Appcrash error with Puzzle Agent 2? I tried running it in compatibility mode in XP and Vista. Also set it to admin rights and still it is crashing before it gets to the starting menu.

edit: Got it to work with Vista compatibility mode.

You should be able to change the default keyboard controls in the Options menu.
Can anyone recommend the puzzle agent games?
I can. They are short 2-3 hours long max games with bunch of puzzles.Puzzles arent that hard or easy but usually fun.Second Game finishes the story of the first game afaik. Worth $2.5
You should be able to change the default keyboard controls in the Options menu.
I didn't bother to check. I just assumed it had to be mapped to the mouse since it looked like one of those point and click games.
Can anyone recommend the puzzle agent games?
I will. From the little I played of Puzzle Agent 2, I had lots of fun.
Can anyone recommend the puzzle agent games?
I just played enough of the second one for the Christmas achievement, but it seems good. Although the puzzles were a bit simple, I expect they will get more challenging as the game goes on. My gut says that they are worth buying if you are interested.

If the Amazon thing doesn't work out I'd email D2D and explain the problem, see if they'll give you the discount tomorrow since they prevented you from getting it today. They have pretty good customer service in my experience.

You realize Toki Tori has a robust rewind feature? You can ensure your every move is perfect with that...

I can't see why so many have problems. Once I figured it out I nailed those snowflakes within two tries each.

This might be old news, but I just realized that all of the Magicka DLC for sale on Amazon DD comes with the $5 off 2011 bestsellers Amazon credit, and they're all Steam redeemable. So buy one at $0.36, get $5 towards another game. Pretty sweet, IMO.

I have to admit, I just dont understand who would want to play universe sandbox. Is it for Astronomy Teachers or something? It doesn't look fun to me. Can anyone enlighten me? Am I missing something?

Just so my CAGly pals know, the $5 credit does not work until January.

Here's the excerpt:
"... [R]eceive a $5 promotional credit good towards any of the 2011 bestselling Video Game Download... in the month of January 2012."
For those trying for the super meat boy achievement. Apparently Steam has put the wrong one up according to tam meats twitter.

Thank you! I was actually able to get that achievement, hopefully steam will actually change it.

Why do people like looking through google maps? It can be fun to look at new and interesting things you haven't seen before. Plus when it comes to games you can just dislike a genre, period. It could be nothing about the game necessarily, but the genre. I can't play Metal Gear Solid and nothing is wrong with it I just can't play it. I don't find it enjoyable, but I find nothing at fault with it either.

Puzzle Agent 2 is picky. I did the compatibility mode for XP Service Pack and admin once. Worked. Next time, didn't work. Uninstalled, reinstalled, fiddled with the settings, and finally the game launched.
Can anyone recommend the puzzle agent games?
I've played both games to completion and enjoy them. They're strange but entertaining in a suspenseful way. The puzzles fluctuate in difficulty, but there's a fantastic hint system for when you're stuck.

Today's price is great, if you're interested.

Just did my Universe Sandbox achievement. I am now the proud owner of two Orange Boxes, or three if you count the one I had long before this sale ever started.
Sorry you don't approve of my purchase decisions?
I purchased it to. It was just supposed to be a comedic reaction to my own post from a few pages back, suggesting that I hoped my purchase would save a few people from the dullness of Xotic. To each his own, of course, and it was all meant in jest.
apparently they're gonna change the super meat boy achievement to the easy xmas one. hurray. :)
But... I'm almost halfway through the first level

Amazon price matched it, and it also registers on Origin, but I had to use this link to register it, since it was giving me an error in Origin itself.
no winter lockdown levels on spiral knights ... probably steam rigged it... bastards
Got mine at the 5th try .. so I'd say it isn't gone, it's just a random pick, can't fight the forces of chance! :bouncy:
Super Meat Boy can go fuck itself
You only need to complete one level. The achievement is supposed to be changed to The Kid's Xmas! Hopefully Steam will switch them soon.

Heh, guess I was lucky to get in on my first go. Started up game, got into level and snagged achievement, and then quit out in roughly 1-2 minutes.
You only need to complete one level. The achievement is supposed to be changed to The Kid's Xmas! Hopefully Steam will switch them soon.
I did try to beat one level, they're all very difficult and way out of my league.

I'm playing the SpaceChem demo and it's fantastic so far. I hate chemistry, but damn is this game good. It's really great at making you feel smart, and the histograms at the end of each puzzle are awesome, since they show how your solution compared to everyone else's. It's definitely going to be worth the $2.50.

Whoops, thought I'd gotten the Flight Control achievement last weekend, but apparently I only got the one for landing three in a row. Just went back to it and, in addition to netting the correct achievement, obliterated my previous high score by landing 524 aircraft. o_O I hadn't gotten the achievement for landing 200 in one level before this...

Bought Puzzle Agent 2. Probably could have waited on this (and I have a 25% off Telltale coupon that would have had me watching for a sale), but the easy objective for it pushed me over. Still need to finish the first one, though I liked what I had played of it. I forget what other game came out that pulled me away...
